Internet Archive Starts Taking Bitcoin Donations to Pay Employees The Internet Archive on Thursday made a bold announcement: the organization is considering giving all its employees the option to be paid in Bitcoin. The move is apparently in response to employees asking to be paid in the digital currency, as soon as this April.
Bitcoin is a decentralized digital currency, currently the most-widely used alternative to common forms of money. Because it has no central issuer, it has no single authority and thus no way to lock out certain users (or countries) out of the network. Bitcoin can be used to pay for certain transactions both offline and online.

Do you think it's good idea to convince WWF, PETA etc. to accept Bitcoins? I do.I will keep sending emails to polish and international organisations with a question if they accept Bitcoin dontations. If you can provide a list of the world biggest nonprofit organisations and/or their emails - that would be helpful. Like: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Charity_fundraisersAnd of course - if you send an email too it would be perfect for them - and for us I guess.

Thank you: mpfrank and DannyHamilton! It is very understandable now

Thank you for answering me One of the most important questions in my opinion is: What "difficult mathematical problem" is being computed? I mean not in the "baby language" - but let's say - in understandable way for a so called "non-technical" person.

I'm asking the forum experts about "is there an easy explanation of how Bitcoin works? A video maybe?" The problem is solved I guess. There is a lot of good work done in this topic: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=144642I've used some ideas of @hazek and @Korbman there - and I received nice answers.

By "works" I mean - really works - with all the sha256, difficulty and mining computers operations. As mentioned here (by Korbman): Now if only someone would write up something like this that explains how Bitcoin works (turning technical details into something a third grader could understand)..essentially taking the Wiki version, adding more detail, and removing words longer than 6 characters . Or maybe that's been done already and I've just missed it? I'm getting tired of explaining cryptography to people https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=143992.0We need something similar to what @hazek did (in the topic I just mentioned) - but from the technical point of view. And I believe we need it to be easy to understand for everyone. I would love to show begginers this video - if it exists... Or maybe somebody has it all explained in PDF or in a Forum Post? What I think would be perfect is - in way which CGP Grey is doing his youtube videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrObZ_HZZUc The (Secret) City of London, Part 1: History [He even included Bitcoin logos in this vid!]Thanks and may the force of Bitcoin be with you EDIT: I think problem is solved. Now we would probably need a video with that. "A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government." George Washington
I think we should listen to the words of the Founding Father not only according to arms but to the currency, the information, the internet etc.
Bitcoin gives us what is the most important - the independence and the freedom.

@herzmeister Long story short, if we really have to come up with something about its backing, then Bitcoin is backed by the common effort of the world-wide community, its incentive to keep the system running, and the passion to build upon its unique features.
Unlike money today, Bitcoin is not backed by force, it's backed by love.

I would like to ask you to share with us - the best quotes or sentences you know or you invented about Bitcoin. Here I've found some: (and I will keep updating this) @ElectricMucus "Bitcoin is like a variation of Schrödinger's Cat. Everything about it is both scam and fully legit at the same time until you open the box." This is a complete reconstruction of the global monetary system built by private individuals and controllable by no government nor corporation but by the objective laws of mathematics. Can there be a project anywhere in the world more exciting than this? @casascius Bitcoin - a new way to look at banking, an idea TOO BIG TO FAIL! Maybe there is going to be a Wiki site with "Bitcoin quotes" one day?
