221  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mix riser power from different PSU's? on: June 05, 2017, 07:21:11 PM
Why would you do that... you can power the riser and the gpu with one cable + a splitter....
I was under the impression that it is preferred to use one cable per riser.
222  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Mix riser power from different PSU's? on: June 05, 2017, 07:15:08 PM
Hello,

If I buy EVGA G2 650 to power the motherboard and 2x risers and also buy a 2400W server PSU to power all GPU's and 4x risers, will there be a problem?

Can I mix powering the risers from two different PSU's or do I need to power them from the same PSU?

If I need to power them all from the same PSU, can I power them using the small PSU (motherboard and risers) or do they need to be powered from the same PSU as the GPU's?

Thank you

I RMAed evga once, totally it took 7~8 business day to get it back. If you choose advanced RMA (you pay for a new card right away and get $ back later), I guess they could send it out the next day after RMA is approved.

That's almost two weeks and way too long for me. I'd rather purchase my GPU's from something like the Swedish Webhallen or German Mindfactory. I sent back a broken R9 Fury to Mindfactory a few months ago. I shipped the GPU from Sweden on a Tuesday. I had the new GPU delivered to my door on Friday the same week. They obviously paid for shipping back and forth since it was under warranty.
224  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining + Personal PC setup? on: June 05, 2017, 05:59:49 AM
I've done it 95% load and it's safe if the PSU is good quality. It's not efficient and not recommended, you'll get good efficiency and longer life span of PSU at 80% load.
With 10 years warranty, I wouldn't worry that much.

For OP:
Yes, you can use your integrated GPU for regular tasks like browsing and watching streams etc. Just plug the monitor into the integrated GPU and you're all set. If you have AMD cards mining, you'll still need a monitor or dummy plugged in to one of the AMD cards or they won't be able to be overclocked in Windows. Nvidia does not need a dummy plug.

My daughter's PC has two RX 470 in it and is using the integrated GPU to the monitor since all she does is play Roblox and watch Youtube and the integrated one is enough for that. If her monitor is plugged into one of the AMD cards, it'll all start to lag - even Netflix. But since the integrated GPU isn't used for mining, it works great with that.
225  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GTX1080ti's: Better Options? on: June 02, 2017, 10:06:16 PM
you keep saying this with no actual evidence past trying to base your assumptions off things you don't understand.... or as far as I can tell that you even care to even attempt at this point.

stop the FUD, unless you have some real evidence that can prove your accusations (such as the offending pool code, etc).
The reason people are saying that zpool steal 30% of your earnings is because they did - but they don't anymore.

I tried it myself with a Baikal Giant a few months ago and compared to other pools, I received about 20-30% less (can't remember the exact percentage right now) than any other pool. It's been talked about in their pool thread for some time and the first thread was closed because of it. They didn't even try to hide it because it was all very obvious when looking at the statistics of mined coins.

They have, however, changed that - at least last I checked, so they don't take that amount of percentage anymore and should be on par with other auto-exchange pools out there.

But yeah, the reason people are saying that zpool are "stealing" is because they were. But not anymore.
226  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Drawbacks to using EthOS or Simplemining vs clean Linux on: June 02, 2017, 09:56:01 PM
They are plug and play solutions, and have no drawbacks. But since they are intended for mining only, you should not expect to have an adequate experience doing anything else (ie using a browser).
If you can set up Linux to mine properly with the proprietary drivers and all, it will be exactly the same.
Of course they have drawbacks. Simplemining doesn't support Nvidia cards at all and EthOS doesn't officially support Nvidia cards, but can be done if installing drivers and miners etc. manually. But at that point you could just go with any Linux distribution and install drivers and miners manually - making EthOS obsolete.
227  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Would you recommend a regular PSU per rig or server PSU? on: June 02, 2017, 09:43:40 PM
If you can get a 1600w+ Platinum PSU for less than a server PSU, then you have to let me know. Those are like $350+ for me. The server PSU is like $80 + 400W PSU for like $30 = $110, way cheaper for me.

I am actually not familiar with nVidia cards for mining at all. All of my mining cards are AMD, so I can't give any advice about undervolt. I have my RX 480s at about 70w each and 580s at 85w each.
Well, when I look at PSU's I never purchase the cheapest one. Of course, there are cheap 400W you can get for close to free, but a quality PSU like an EVGA 650W is still €100 here in Sweden. The 550W variant is €1 cheaper. Then add a 2400W server PSU for $170 including shipping to Sweden and I'm quite close to what an EVGA G2 1600W costs. Not including any VAT or custom expenses that might be added when importing. With them included, it'll be more expensive than just buying an EVGA G2 1600W. Unfortunately, that PSU doesn't have enough 8-pin connectors for 6x GTX 1080 Ti's.

Of course, this is for 6x GTX 1080 Ti which use a more power than 6x RX 570/580.
228  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Would you recommend a regular PSU per rig or server PSU? on: June 02, 2017, 08:18:14 PM
The 8 pin cable means that the power supply is rated to give 150w of power. The cables themselves can deliver way more.
This is great information, thank you!

Going this way is cheaper than buying a 1500w+ PSU anyway.
It's not really cheaper than purchasing an EVGA G2 1600W where I live, but the EVGA PSU doesn't have enough cables for 6x GTX 1080 Ti + 6x 6-pin risers.

Speaking of which, would it be fine to power 4x 6-pin risers with the server PSU and 2x 6-pin risers with the "regular" PSU? Would that cause any issues?

Also, hopefully you're undervolting so you're using less than 100w per card. Smiley
No, I will not undervolt a GTX 1080 Ti to use less than 100W per card. Is that even possible?

Edit: Although this website claims that the 8-pin (6+2) official connector wattage is 150W and the sata connector is 75W+ (12V and 5V combined, which should be fine with a riser and voltage regulator):

229  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Want to know about btcprominer?? on: June 02, 2017, 08:08:21 PM
im wondering if i can really make a withdrawal if i upgrade my version, cause their system detected that my account has 2 free account on my ip address,  it says i have to upgrade to make a withdrawal, is this true? im having a hardtime on this.
Don't. You'll never get any money.
230  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Would you recommend a regular PSU per rig or server PSU? on: June 02, 2017, 06:26:37 PM
Then use a GPU power splitter like this to power both the card and the riser:
http://www.parallelminer.com/product/18awg-pci-e-6pin-to-dual-8-pin-y-splitter-extension-cable-2x-62pin-cable-6in-each-side/

Safest way to power the risers.
Is this really a good idea? I mean, the 8-pin cable is rated for 150W. On a GPU with 2x 8-pins you'll of course use two separate cables, but splitting one of those cables doesn't seem like such a good idea.

It'd work just fine for GPU's that use 6-pins of course. But what do I know, I'm no expert.

Edit: Is it a good idea to power GPU's in two different rigs with the same server PSU?

I would be interested in this as well, so if anyone have any new information, I would greatly appreciate it.
232  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Would you recommend a regular PSU per rig or server PSU? on: June 02, 2017, 04:14:13 PM
Hello,

I've ordered components for five rigs with 6x RX 570 cards. In a few weeks, I'll be ordering another 10 but might go with Nvidia instead depending on the market. I'm planning on at least another 20 after that within a few months.

Would you recommend a single powerful PSU for each rig or would you rather go with a smaller PSU for motherboard and risers and then a server PSU to power the GPU's? Perhaps a single powerful server PSU for two rigs, depending on the rig?

With AMD cards, I'm looking at around 1000W per rig but was thinking of doing 6x GTX 1080 Ti's in a couple for around 1500W each (not sure about this number though, just going off of what the manufacturer claims).
233  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Hashrate RX 570 on: June 01, 2017, 07:23:45 PM
I just wanted to chime in with my current hash rates of some of the cards I'm using.

Please note that I haven't really optimized that much, I've only modded the memory straps in the bios' and then underclocked core and overclocked memory with SimpleMining.

6x Sapphire RX 570 Pulse Mini (ITX): 28.10MH/s ETH + 420MH/s SIA. 1500 straps, 1106MHz core clock and 2000MHz memory clock. Have powertune set to 1 in SimpleMining. Hynix memory.
4x Asus RX 570 Expedition OC: 27.15MH/s ETH + 430MH/s SIA. 1500 straps, 1180MHz core clock and 1900MHz memory clock. Have powertune set to 6 in SimpleMining. Elpida memory.

I just set up the 4x Asus cards while I'm waiting for risers to be delivered. I still have 14x more Asus RX 570 Expedition OC and 12x Asus RX 570 Strix Gaming OC to go through but I'm waiting for risers.

Plug in a display to one of the cards.
235  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How much data traffic when mining? on: June 01, 2017, 05:20:49 PM
I measured the data used the last 12 hours on a mining rig and multiplied it by two, then by 30, which was something just below 3GB per month. As long as they don't use much bandwidth I should be fine with a connection that limits speed to 200kbit/s after the first 3GB is used. If not, I'll just have to increase the data up to unlimited, but it costs more. No need to do that if I'll be fine with 200kbit/s though.
236  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How much data traffic when mining? on: June 01, 2017, 03:05:56 PM
Miner only with 6 GPUs - 2.2GB per month, 8 GPUs 2.7GB per month.
great, thank you!
237  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How much data traffic when mining? on: June 01, 2017, 01:56:48 PM
Do you have any idea about how much one dedicated rig would use in terms of amount of data?

I can't really compare on my home PCs that I use for mining since I do other things on them as well.
238  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / How much data traffic when mining? on: June 01, 2017, 11:45:32 AM
Hello,

I've ordered 30 GPU's to fit in 5 mining rigs and another 60 (for 10 rigs) within the next two weeks and hopefully expanding with another 240 GPU's within a few months. Electricity isn't a problem but bandwidth and data traffic is, at least temporary. Does anyone have an estimate of how much traffic a single mining rig with 6 GPU's and dual mining would use?

As a temporary solution I've thought about is using a 4G router until we've gotten a phone line to the warehouse for a couple of months.

Thanks!
239  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Two 470, one at 27MH/s, other stuck at 23MH/s? on: June 01, 2017, 08:25:58 AM
The faster one is with Elpida memory chips, the slower is with Hynix.
I have both kinds in my setup.
If that's the case would both cards work when I've flashed the exact same bios on them both? I backed up both bioses but modified one and flash that to both.

Edit: Nevermind I guess. They both started suddenly started hashing at the same higher speed over night. I haven't done anything. Haven't touched the PC, not even logged in with Teamviewer. The slower card suddenly just started hashing faster for some reason.
