2201  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Add signature campaing on: July 13, 2021, 07:34:27 PM
Afaik you need to be a member at least to have a signature so you won't be able to join a campaign until then.

That's a short wait if you're here for the right reasons... If you're here for the wrong and you're going to spam there's probably no point in trying as you likely won't get accepted anyway into one or might damage your reputation while in one that you get dropped from it.

You must first increase your profile status to sign. It is possible to do what you have if you have the lowest junior membership. If you want to sign, you have to join the signature campaign. How to join a signature campaign follow this link

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4646378.msg41981756#msg41981756

Do you know what the word sign means? I'm curious if you're interchanging it with something.
2202  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented on: July 13, 2021, 12:34:16 PM
The connection is encrypted end-to-end and there is no need for SSL in that case.
Oh, didn't know that. So, is ChipMixer's server essentially the exit node?

It makes them a server pointing to tor.

I'd add onto what ranochingo said because as well as end to end encryption, there's encryption at each hop. Tor used to tell you the number of hops it did (and it used to be 6) each of these would be encrypted and the transit nodes are only able to see the last hop and next hop locations, the encrypted data and nothing else.

The basis of tor imo is Firefox so there's a chance different algorithms might be used.

simple example of encryption
If you can't think of a way this can work, I'd explain it this way:
You transport the number 20, node 2 said their key was 5216 and node one said theirs was 5789 with the end server securely sending the code 562163
You could then transport your 20 in the following steps:
Send the sum of all keys to node 1: 573188
Node 1 subtracts 5789: 567,399
Node 1 sends this new number to node 2
Node 2 then does the same step and gets: 562,183
Node 2 then forwards to the service and the service finally gets: 20

Keys are much more securely sent than this, this is just an easy to explain example.
2203  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Best Bitcoin Mixer RN? on: July 12, 2021, 08:00:50 PM
For better anonymity, you might want to use multiple mixers (and tor).

If you manage to find non kyc crypto exchanges, you can do source - > mixer - > few day hold in mixer or a throwaway wallet - > throwaway trusted exchange/gambling account (try to change the figure of what you withdraw by a bit) - > second mixer - > withdraw.
2204  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented on: July 12, 2021, 07:47:03 PM
.com is currently under DDOS.
Install cloud flare ??
Seems attack still going really sucks
Installing cloudflare would likely compromise anonymity of anyone who uses them after that (cloud flare would be able to see things like a session token, deposit address and a lot of other information - like the user's individual ip address).

They're a bit of a monopoly too so they likely already sell a lot of data/mine it themselves (CF).
2205  Other / Meta / Re: Is there some sort of Godfatherism in the forum? on: July 12, 2021, 03:47:54 PM
Account farming is a hard thing to tackle imo and was the original reason for the merit system.

Familiarity and appreciation could also bread positive feedback to a user. For example: user A gets merited by user B so user A naturally obtains a more positive affinity to user B and enjoys their content more. This may be an unintended consequence of the merit system (but it might also serve to increase engagement and quality discussion).

There's going to be a fuzzy, hard to detect line between the above and account farming, especially on local boards or smaller communities - which are generally good to keep active to show new users from those countries that (1) they're welcome in the crypto community and (2) they have a way to get a fast, public response from people.
2206  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Could this be true about covid-19 killer vaccine on: July 11, 2021, 09:09:31 PM
Probably wants to just stay in the headlines. They were quoted in April 2020 saying the virus came from a lab rather than being zoological - seems weird they've somehow managed to know so much on this virus but haven't been tasked with making a vaccine...

Also he's working in a Chinese university apparently? I wouldn't rate how factual his statements are since that's the country that failed to contain the virus and probably intentionally let it spread - they might just be back to trying to do that.
2207  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Should i take the risk or not on: July 11, 2021, 08:17:50 PM
No one can give you a concise answer on what bitcoin will do in the future.

Do you have an amount your comfortable losing? If it's $20 for example then you could invest that.

$20 from 2015 to 2021 is around $3-6k now so balances can quickly add up even if you put in a small %.

The issue is, what would you do without that $3000 and what would you do if it goes to $1500,$750,$200. Pricing is irratic and while btc trends upwards - it might not always do that.
2208  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase Card (Visa Debit) on: July 11, 2021, 07:07:52 PM
I got a coinbase card a while ago also and the contactless doesn't work so I'm stuck just using it online.
Does it mean coinbase card can't use in ATM?

I don't have a Coinbase card, but I believe it should work without issues in an ATM. ATMs don't use contactless; you have to actually insert your card.

@jackg have you made a chip + PIN transaction somewhere first? You'll need to do that with a new card to enable contactless.

I put it in the atm first yes I think I missed a confirmation step but cards that don't work seem to restart pos systems as a security mechanism and I didn't want to have to unpack my stuff...

You can withdraw cash with it too - I just checked my balance (I think) to check the pin worked. But it works like an international card too so you get a choice of languages (the top four were English, Deutsch, Espaniol and Francais).

They also don't participate with Google pay and it's probably cheaper and more stable to just transfer the money beforehand to a regular bank account.
2209  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Asymmetric encryption--RSA(A novice explanation) on: July 09, 2021, 01:59:24 AM
I am always wondering when to use code and when to use quote.

Code is good for large bodies of text because it's scrollable once it gets too large.
I use quote either for quoting or just as a large box separator for when I need it - it works quite well for the latter.
2210  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase Card (Visa Debit) on: July 09, 2021, 01:54:18 AM
@davef, wait so purchasing something with $1 in xlm charges you $1.029 but returns $1.04?

I got a coinbase card a while ago also and the contactless doesn't work so I'm stuck just using it online.

Also they were paying interest on usdc here and 2% isn't the worst interest you could get so it might be alright.
It does seem weird they haven't made it all fee free since it's a good ad for them (someone using a card with their name on it to pay).

Are there any anonymous versions in the market? Is that even allowed?

Anonymous cards are even illegal in Europe. You won't get one unless you're a large company that has to do their own kyc and tracking anyway.

these cards have high rates but to be honest they are practical in countries like mine because if i do compare card rates and withdrawal fees from Cex.io to my bank it has almost the same fees with the difference of the card being more Practically, when I used the wagecan card I paid absurd fees but as I wanted money immediately so I had no choice.

To be honest, I'm surprised they're not cheaper than using US cards because I remember Amex having high fees on the retailer, I expected them to have that on the user too (still paying cashback though).

2211  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Volatility Indicator on: July 09, 2021, 01:42:23 AM
I'm sure I heard someone talk about bollinger bands or something for doing this. If the price is outside of the band, the asset is volatile.

You might also be able to do something as simple as tracking volume - high volume can mean high volatility. You could also look at an exchange and see how fast the price is moving (either on a simple to program script or by eye at the time of trade).

It's worth noting, these probably won't be accurate... It might just be busy at certain points and quiet at others because some are more useful than others (for example companies often trade at market open while retail might trade weekends or end of day).
2212  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Asymmetric encryption--RSA(A novice explanation) on: July 08, 2021, 09:51:07 PM
Sorry, I am not a native English speaker,

Don't worry. That one threw me off too until I searched it after the first time I read it! Some mathematic definitions are quite confusing too.

I will check my vocabulary again. I only came into contact with encryption this month, so I posted this post in the help section, I hope you can point out my mistakes and help.
thanks.
That was the only mistake I think (other than the formatting but you might be better off replacing the "code" tabs with "quote" ones?

You've got far in a month if you're already here too! You might want to add references for other newbies to follow you if there's a good resource you've found.
2213  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How a post should be on: July 08, 2021, 06:27:45 PM
Erm. I wouldn't put too much pressure on people writing quality posts, they come in many different forms.

I'd rather you post something natural and uninfluenced/unpressured than suggest posting something of "quality" - that feels it might discourage users from posting, especially if their English is bad.
2214  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Asymmetric encryption--RSA(A novice explanation) on: July 08, 2021, 02:33:23 AM
Your choose two prime numbers is different from what I learned. Coprime is normally what I see when referring to rsa and it means two numbers that don't share a common factor (I think).

I'm not mentioning this to be pedantic it's a detail that, I feel, dramatically increases the numbers that can be picked for p and q.
2215  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where did my money go? on: July 07, 2021, 09:40:33 PM
I invested $350 in BTC the next day my portfolio was $0. This was due to the recent crash in BTC. The amount of BTC purchased was still there but the dollar value vanished. Then when BTC started rising the dollar started coming up minimally. My question is, as at when my portfolio was zero, where did my money go? And when it started adding again, where was it coming from?
Thanks!

It was most likely a site bug. You might want to tell us the site as a bug like that might not matter, or it might mean there are a lot of other problems with them (and the second one might be more likely - especially if you didn't read their reviews and do some research).
2216  Other / Meta / Re: Why do we still have options for MSN, YIM etc? on: July 07, 2021, 01:32:11 AM
You could always populate those fields with: yim: telegram @my_telegram_handle. Or put a link to your telegram or something.

Most interactions normally don't need to be done externally from the forum imo and therell probably a lot of discussion on what should go there and what shouldn't. You also have a personal message space next to your name you could put your handle in for example too.

And if you don't understand any of that, I don't blame you.  There are a lot of things on this forum that don't make any sense, and still having spaces for AIM/ICQ/MSN account info is one of them.  I doubt you're going to get a better answer unless Theymos himself replies here, which would be like whispering an incantation with dripping candles in hand and hoping a spirit appears.  You've got a valid point, but don't expect anything to change anytime soon.

Perhaps not understanding how the current DB/php structure worked was the catalyst for making the new forum software.
Though we seem like a community who'd want custom labels and those would take a lot of space up, and how would you format them - limit to 8 characters, 16? Would people use them as an additional personal message: like a linktree.

2217  Other / Meta / Re: Important to give merit Newbie/jr member. on: July 07, 2021, 01:26:40 AM

I got a merit as a newcomer. It gives me more time to know about my forum and more time. So I mean to see new members like me take them seriously. So that they can spend more time and learn more. Enthusiasm of members like me increases. When I get merit. I do more research so that I can get more merit. That is what happens in everyone's case, so I wanted to explain.

I have seen the profiles of many members.ex: They have 100 merits but they have given only 4.5 to someone. Didn't anyone get anything to give in the forum? Again someone has given everything from 100 merits to give them. I wanted to discuss this.

Don't get me wrong.

Merits aren't sendable though. Sendable. Merits (smerits) are and you get 1 for every 2 merits you receive.

There are also merit sources who have a quota of merits to giveaway.

Your thread looks kinda beggy though and I'd suggest you spend time just posting useful discussion and you'll find you can rank up/earn merits. If you make "research for merit earning", your goal we get 20 identical threads from like minded newbies of information they think is interesting but appears in a thread close to them.

Add nuance to stuff or just contribute to discussions that aren't many pages long and you'll find you get noticed.
2218  Economy / Economics / Re: Why is cryptocurrency bullish in the long-term on: July 06, 2021, 03:39:59 AM
Holding is the best way to profit from being in crypto if you can't trade. Even holding something that's backed like dai and exchanging it for cdai means you're making a few % passively without trusting a third party much (auditable smart contracts reduce the risk of losses).

A lot of stocks aren't moving anywhere in price too and some people are nervous of having a bank account and stock investments (even a pension can be considered risky these days).

I think there's also the fees to compare when talking about crypto too. A €60 fee is very low for an international transfer and is what you can often expect to pay if dealing with banks. These transactions are also normally limited by the slowest bank so can take 3-14 days for money to be received which means crypto is the better choice in this case too - even if it's a stablecoin.

A lot of younger people in crypto too, mightve bought in at <$1000, even $10000 is cheap for bitcoin now and those people will likely be quite relaxed now - along with those people who bought eth for a cent and who mined some cryptos on their cpus.
2219  Other / Meta / Re: A few forum questions on: July 05, 2021, 11:34:08 PM
As welsh said it is frowned upon in some places to make a self moderated thread. It is also possible to create a local rule for a thread though that's stated in the thread start post and have a moderator enforce that rule if you're trying to maintain a good image - for example if you're announcing a service.

2220  Other / Meta / Re: A suggestion for Highlighting Posts. on: July 04, 2021, 08:30:49 PM
Up until now I've seen the local boards get a lot of hate because of being small and this might exacerbate their problems.

I'm also not sure how these users will find those posts too. A lot of sources get to a lot of topics anyway (and quite a wide variety) but would you then bump up the good posts? Make something similar to the "patrol" page for sources? Wouldn't a "send to source" button make more sense accessible to users with 10+ merit?
