We can't know everything what is happening on the internet, especialy having in mind the deep web so it's hard to make any estimation. Still with overal acceptance and especialy with high price the number of users is probably increasing and people are changing their opinion about the Bitcoin for the better.
A rising price of BTC does is not necessarily caused by the increasing number of users. This might be an empty pump from the rich traders who dont have anything better to do with their free time. Please keep that in mind.

Hold your horses. The word scam is thrown around very lightly here. Im sure theres a good explanation on the whole issue and there might be a glitch in their system or a group of hackers are taking advantage of the glitch. Either way, they should look into it and investigate.
meanwhile they investigate, i should at least have my btc withdrawn before locked. How many other people are being scammed the way you did by the way? Until its proven that Purse is a scam then I will not believe a newbie account and their claims. It would be just as easy to say that you tried to cheat their system. the newbie is ex-staff on another forum. https://www.nulled.to/user/8-levathianSo what? Unless it is a staff of Bitcointalk thats claiming that Purse is scamming the people everywhere, I will not believe a newbie account who claims to be an exstaff of another random forum.

Hi I'm just new to bitcoin, what would this mean for the people who have money in that exchange? I suppose it would be near impossible for them to get their money back since it's not like a bank with government insurance.
I don't have a whole bitcoin yet but what's the best way to store them other than using hardware/paper wallets? Are online wallets good enough if you enable two-step authentication?
I believe these hacking incidents is one of the reasons people are having doubts using bitcoin to store their savings. I know it could be no better at different things but at least banks do have insurance and if they're "too big to fail" the government would step in in case of collapse.
btc38 covered all the losses. If they did then that means they are 1.5 million US dollars in the hole. Sooner or later they would have to look for a way to cover that hole. In the history of all exchanges that came and went in Bitcoin, we have seen them make a run for it with customer funds.

Is there a way to determine the number of people who are actually using Bitcoin till date? Who would have access to such information? Meaning a way to find out, how many new people have used Bitcoin in 2016 , so that we can say exponential growth is natural not artificially created by hoarders.
The number would be far less than any bitcoiner would expect. Try to imagine how many drug addicts use BTC and how many drug dealers. I would think that theres not much. Like what an expert hacker said, we are only accessing 10% of the internet because the rests is in the deep web, so that means illegal transaction are rampant in the dark web and that helps bitcoin to increase its demand. That's good for all of us BTC holders correct? All we have to do is keep waiting for the price to go up and let the BTC markets work their magic. I can see many people here wanting to make BTC accepted by banks and become a mainstream currency just for that same purpose.

I dont see the logic of buying clothes with BTC when cash works fine in any store I go to. If its buying drugs online on the other hand thats a different story. But ultimately I would prefer to save all my BTC.
If you are from the US, it probably doesn't make sense to use BTC. For people in some other countries who don't have credit cards and want to purchase online, paying with BTC makes more sense. What countries are we talking about and at what demographic do these buyers belong to? If you are talking about third world countries I have seen people buy stuff on a store which they advertise on facebook and they take payments via cash deposits in their bank accounts. There really is no need to pay with BTC for clothes because the fiat banking system works.

Or maybe the reviewer already figured out that to make money with these cloud mining contracts, the company, Genesis, has to get more new customer's money in to pay for the current contract holders. He is doing his job so that he himself can get paid.
|
|
|
I cant imagine how this is sustainable in the long run. The money coming in will stop sooner or later and they will have a hard time paying their customers. Some of the users of this forum consider cloudmining companies as ponzi schemes.

And again, when bitcoin price spiked then come a bad news maybe this is staged lol
Its that or the hackers know when the right time is to strike and make the most money. It is funny because if it is staged, what theyre doing is not really working. BTC keeps going up and up.

I think dark market place is the mother of bitcoin , who brings up bitcoin
But BTC is the father of the Silk Road which is the mother of all dark net markets. Without BTC the dark net wont be thriving like its doing now.
|
|
|
Using dark marketplaces or regular markets we will always find scammers in both places the choise is to run a profitable business or scam some pennies from others, with that said with crypto coins people can keep consume drugs and buy and sell anything they wanna, there is no way to trace and stop all of those packages, since the distribution may go with private company that dont wanna know what is inside.
You will be surprised that there are less scammers in the darknet than what most people will assume. Innthe darknet vendors and drug dealers need to prove themselves as honest and trustworthy to make a lot more money than scamming people.
|
|
|
There are some but dark marketplaces are mostly not even very nice to sit on because its risky and dangerous too, plus there are a lot of scammers.
In Alphabay if you follow and use their reputation system you will never be scammed. It is not that risky if you buy drugs in the site compared to buying drugs in the street. The darknet is making it safer for nice people like you and me to get access to the best quality drugs available.

2 hours later, another 8btc thread gave out the true reason: BTC38 was hit by a hacker with approximate loss of 1.5 million RMB. “As a result of the server logic problems on 21st Dec, more than 10 million Bitshares, over 10 million NXT and some BTC/LTC were stolen from the exchange’s hot wallet (estimated total loss of 1.5 million RMB). We shut down the server immediately and stayed up all night to fix the problem. We have reviewed our wallet deployment plan and made new adjustments. We will take full responsibility for the total loss of the digital asset (market buyback).” The most important assurance is that all funds are safe in the hands of BTC38. BTC38 explained the delay to calm down the market:“As we are currently redeploying the wallet, the service for certain coins will be resumed gradually.” http://news.8btc.com/exclusive-btc38-hot-wallet-got-hacked-and-lost-1-5-millionGood timing for the hackers. BTC is already at over 900 dollars. This is a little too convenient for them, dont you think? This is another inside job by the people who own and run the exchange.

Is this the webwallet that has the great Adam Back involved with it? If he is then Green Address will be the safest web wallets available for all BTCers. Do not use the one with a Nick in it.

i would invest to bitcoin mining only
Care to explain why? Not meaning to bash on you, just genuinely curious :p Because he likes to help the BTC economy by donating 40 dollars at a time, day by day for as long as he is working in the same job.
