yeah decent price for a 1070. that 1070 mini i bought from you does ~3.8 sol/watt, im happy with it.

but i figure i should go with a 1080 or 1080ti to try get more efficiency.. or is the 1070 the sweet spot as far as watts/hash?

1070 ti followed very closely by the 1080, if operated at their most efficient spot both will hit 4.4 easily with peaks pushing 4.7 sometimes (I don't count "peaks" where the power is temporarily WAY below the set point as those are statistical abberations).
1080 ti will top 4.1 easily and might hit 4.2-4.3 with a lot of tweeking on a good card.
1070 struggles to get TO 4 in my experience with several models, but will usually manage it with enough settings work - this specificially includes the Zotac Mini and the Gigabyte ITX.

When you factor in total system power draw, the 1080 ti closes the gap a hair.
The 1080 has more "upside" than the 1070 ti when both are run above the "most efficient point" but both drop efficiency pretty fast above about 115-120 watts, and the 1080 normally costs ballpark 10% more for a "same model" card.
The only advantage to the 1070 is the lower entry price - but it's not THAT much lower than the 1070 ti, and at "most efficient point" for each card the 1070 gives up close to 15% hashrate while only being ballpark 10% cheaper for a "same model" card.

It also depends on what's on sale and what prices are like in your area.

this is a good analysis.

If you want quiet gear and go waterblock

check the price for

the evga  hybrid 1070  499 usd  https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=08G-P4-6178-KR

the hybrid 1070 ti  529 usd  = https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=08G-P4-5678-KR

the 1070    does 460
the 1070 ti does 500

both at 115-120 watt settings.  these are the full price cards no 3 year warranty.
22122  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Which SSD would you choose? on: November 30, 2017, 05:09:14 AM
If you ask me this is how my logical thought would go:

1) Letter C is out, it is too expensive
2) Letter B is out, it has the same specs as Letter D but more expensive
3) Letter A is out, it is more expensive and samsung memory drives are more known for stability and 128gb is enough for a mining rig

So definitely i'd pick D:

Quote
d) Samsung 128GB SSD: 33 US$

A is bigger if you do windows it is worth it.

Samsung is   Also an okay choice

I did not bother to email them .

I will no longer buy or support three month preorders.

If they want me they can pm me.

Basically with the money I make with gpus I don’t care as much about sha 256 gear.

I can get gpus in a day. With three year warranty.

Frankly this smells wrong to me.

I know people hate bitmain.  But coins are over 10000 bcc is over 1000

And bitmain is the reason why to a large extent.

So if these builders want to sell a ton of gear they can pm me.

If not I use my s-9s and gpus.
22124  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain out to destroy all other coins! on: November 30, 2017, 04:23:00 AM
Bitmain release date for any L3+ are now March 21st.  4 damn months. So they get you to buy the miner and they will mine with them for 4 months killing the value than release just as they did with D3.  Even worse they only take BCH so forcing a pump into BCH.  This company needs competition that is real because they killed D3 in the 3 months it took to get the D3 they were mining with them so difficutly rocketed up and we get no ROI on them!  Barely make anything off them.

This company has gotten to be crooked scammers that will get the miners to buy the equipment so they can mine the value out of the coin than dump them on the miners worthless!

Preorders are hard since bitmain gets hand .

I am starting to see a lot of talk about taxes.
I have to admit that I am starting to get a little concerned about how I am going to file this year.
I am not LLC'd into a mining company (however I have been kicking the idea around lately for better write offs and depreciation of equipment).

How are you guys in the U.S. going to be doing it?
Every payout/transaction/trade logged (from what I have seen, the way its supposed to be done but seems almost impossible!) or a snap shot of your portfolio on 12/31 and just 1099 as income?
I have to admit that I really didn't think things through when I jumped into this and never really thought it would be as profitable as it has become for me.
It started as a hobby and turned into a borderline obsession HA HA!

Now I am looking back and starting to understand why you guys go through Nicehash for easier accounting!
I have been a pool jumping fool over the last few months and its going to be pretty hard for me to track every transaction and trade...

Taxes  are tough,  but  I have had a small schedule c  side business since 2005.

I started this year  with  10,000 in gear/inventory.

Since I do a lot of sales  I can defer my income by having greater inventory.

I now am up to 45,000 in inventory  for this year  vs 10,000  So   that  35,000 defers  to 2018 tax year.

But before anyone does this  I have an established ebay business and have sold on this site for years.

So my tax model  will not work for a lot of people.

Next  year  If I sell off most of the gear I will take the tax hit.

22127  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: What level of air filtration do u use for your bitcoin miners? on: November 30, 2017, 01:30:30 AM
Reducing dust and crud build-up is an important goal if you're going to be mining for any length of time. When dust builds up in a miner it blocks the heat transfer of course, but also allows airborne grease and oil to become trapped in the miner making a real mess. This acts like a nice little blanket over your chips/fets, sealing in the warm-ness.

These usually show up at my repair facility with burned chips and FETs. Fixable, but a mess.

The real problem of course is when that combination of lint and oil catches fire from an overstressed capacitor shorting plus 4,000 watts of +12v from the monster supply feeding several miners. Then the lack of a Halon system in your mining center becomes an issue....

And then there are the people who run miners in horse barns.......

like this Grin

@citronick and other guys/gals with Onda D1800

Hi all. Are you able to run the Onda D1800 with nvOC? Or are you all on windows10?

To run nvoc properly, I think I need to disable the IGD.

I tried to disable the IGD in the bios.
I installed a pcie gpu(gtx1060) on pcie1 slot.
I connected a monitor to the gpu on pcie1.
I powered on, no display on the monitor.
I connected a monitor to the builtin vga on the board, no display on the monitor.

Am I doing something wrong? Help???

see crazydane's config

Rule of thumb:

0. Ensure your board boots, press ON button, listen for beep, if not then reseat DDR3 RAM and ensure all cabling tight and secure
1. Most BIOS defaults at GPU0 for monitor (PCI slot closest to CPU)
2. To use ONDA onboard mobo graphics - you actually need to change BIOS
3. In use smOS or nvOC, no changes required in BIOS to get mining running.
4. Plug monitor at GPU0, save BIOS and let it run.
5. logically Win10 will probably same as above.
6. I use smOS Linux mostly for my rigs - for ease of deployment, except for VEGA/Win10 and older rigs 1080ti Equihash/nvOC
what are your guys preferred rams? / why?

Anyone picking up an S9 from the current batch?

Many good ones.

Samsung makes the best. My opinion based on using hundreds no thousands of ram sticks building pcS.

Every year ram prices go up in fall.

I used to get 4gb for 25
8gb for 50
16gb for 95

I had a deal 2016 sept Labor Day 2 16gb sticks of ram laptop 128 dollars.

I went back to order more less then 1 hour later gone I think the seller made a mistake .
22130  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Who likes pod miners? on: November 30, 2017, 12:11:22 AM

22131  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Where to buy S7 and how to ensure it meets specs? on: November 30, 2017, 12:08:51 AM
I escrow  Have done many.

I give buyer 24 hours to test gear they reject or okay it.

+- 10% on specs

so if seller said it does 4.5 th   using 1200 watts  and it does 4.05th  or less you could reject it.

Ship it back on your dime and get a refund.

MAY not seem  good enough protection  for you.  but  the gear is at least  May 2016  or older.  Last batch was shipped may of 2016.

Psu's pools and internet can mean 10%  difference in hash rate.

 the 1 Onda 1800

and multiple Onda B2500  run on smos easy peasy

and the generic 8 slot runs on smos  no issues with smos

So if you hit a good block not an Uncle what do you want to do toss it?

pretty good price.

I may order 4 of these from them.

@ generalt  yeah  I cashed in a lot of coins for the month of November

Hello Everyone,

The normal temperature for whatsminer m3 is under 84 degree.

During Winter time, FANS rpm should be around 4,000

How about CFM value for each fan ?

they must be close to 200 cfm
22137  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sixth alt coin thread I forgot to mod last thread. on: November 29, 2017, 12:21:39 PM
and this morning I cashed some in at 10900

At this point  take some fucking profit.

@ gabryrox       if you have 3 coins  at coinbase don't sell  10 %  sell   1% often.

3 coins = 32700   1% = 327

I saw the market in the 90's  some of my friends had millions.

I begged them to cash  ¼ and buy 30 US bonds giving 8% interest.   they would still be getting 80 k on every million in bonds they purchased

on guy  the banker   peaked at 39 million in 2000   I could not convince to buy any 30 year bonds.

So maybe I can convince you to sell  some of you coins at 10,500 plus

Even if it is 1% a day for the next 5 days. Grin

Yeah  If I did not sell a single coin  I would have more  then I have, but I got a lot my way with no stress.
22138  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: November 29, 2017, 12:06:26 PM
Hey guys, i know this is little off topic but i want to purchase few s9 and i cant login on bitmain site. I cant disable 2FA from google that i never activated. They are saying that i should take a picture from me holding my personal ID and send it to them, i dont know how secure is that so i tried to open new account and the SMS for the activation never arrives. Anyone has any sugestions?
Thanks

the sms will work  try again

they are flooded with new customers due to coins going to 10000 plus.

I have 2 orders marked shipped

one was made

10-1-2017

the other

10-3-2017

both orders end in the same numbers

00120171003-000111 on 10-3-2017
00120171001-000111 on 10-1-2017

both have the same ups label  weight of 5kg

I am hoping  they are not going to fuck up here

the first part  of the orders is  the date

and it clearly shows  different dates.

the second part  is identical by luck  and not 000111  I just put that as an example.

I will continue to post  as I am concerned  due to 1 ups  tracking number not 2

And in a more close look

the ups numbers  amazingly   both end in

xxxxxxxxxx528
xxxxxxxxxx528

so there are 2 different  ups numbers

so  basically I am all good and a 1,000,000 to one shot  came in  with two sets of long numbers    ended in the same 3 digits for the order

and then two ups tracking numbers  for them ended in with a set of 3 indexical numbers.

Wow.
22139  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sixth alt coin thread I forgot to mod last thread. on: November 29, 2017, 05:10:16 AM
Well I cashed some at 9900
I cashed some at 10,400

At this point I may cash everything.

Not much coin left to cash been cashing in every day since we got over 8000.
