2221  Other / Politics & Society / No Such Thing as Narrowly Targeted or Pinpoint Drone Attacks on: May 10, 2015, 11:47:38 PM
The effectiveness of U.S. drone attacks in killing their targets vs. missing their targets and killing innocent human beings is analyzed in fine detail in this report. It looks at multiple attempts to kill a given person. For example, there were 3 U.S. drone attacks on the now-dead Mullah Nazir. These killed 24 innocent civilians. There were 3 U.S. drone attacks on the now-dead Mullah Sangeen Zadran; these killed 108 innocent civilians. Five attacks on the still-living Sirrajudin Haqqani have killed 82 civilians.

In multiple attempts to kill 41 men, the number of people killed in “collateral damage” is 1,147. That is, 28 innocent people have died for every attempt by the CIA or other U.S. forces to kill a target by drone.

Contrast the statements made by U.S. officials. Obama (2012) said

“Drones have not caused a huge number of civilian casualties. For the most part, they have been very precise, precision strikes against al Qaeda and their affiliates.”

“There’s this perception that we’re just sending a whole bunch of strikes willy-nilly. This is a targeted, focused effort at people who are on a list of active terrorists who are trying to go in and harm Americans. … It is important for everybody to understand that this thing is kept on a very tight leash.”

Obama is dead wrong. The truth about drones is the opposite.

Jeb Bush: I, Too, Would Have Authorized Iraq Invasion

“I would have [authorized the invasion], and so would have Hillary Clinton, just to remind everybody. And so would almost everybody that was confronted with the intelligence they got,” Bush told Fox News' Megyn Kelly in an interview scheduled to air Monday.

But he acknowledged that the "intelligence that everybody saw, that the world saw, was faulty," adding that after the invasion, the U.S. ought to have focused on securing and stabilizing Iraq in order to shield its people from sectarian violence.

“By the way, guess who thinks that those mistakes took place as well? George W. Bush. Yes, I mean, so just for the news flash to the world, if they’re trying to find places where there’s big space between me and my brother, this might not be one of those," Jeb Bush said.

This seems to early a conclusion to make, but if it is Hilary then most likely she would leverage the time of the Clinton admiinistration, jobs, economy, American standards and traditions, and the simplicity as compared to the radically different world we live in today. But a whole lot effort needs to be given to the future of USA,economics, gdp, growth, new bills and regulations,resources,infrstructure,technology,healthcare,jobs...etc
For one, Hillary is already backtracking on certain policies that Bill had going back in his tenure. Also, NAFTA was passed back then and this led to much of the US manufacturing industry to flee abroad, thus crimping the domestic job market. Bill still ran deficits but they were covered up by social security money being transferred into the general fund. They set the stage for the deterioration that was to take place later on and the bush wars only made govt spending even worse all the while more people went on entitlements.

I'm of the opinion that this ItBit should be another option for 'mericans to purchase or get exposed to bitcoin in their accounts so I think this should be a positive. News coming out on positive ground should be relished and sought after in a large way imo.

This is bad publicity for Bitcoin, but is there anything honest people can do to slow the trend?
Likely keep this outfit in the back of your mind and never do business with them i suppose? Call them out whenever you can I think is a decent option.

This forum that has americans that can vote in this shithole only have a choice of voting for one man to make a difference in the next election and that is voting for Rand Paul in the GOP primary in your state or territory. There is no other measurable outcome or choice. This is your chance to do something good on the ballot or just tune out. period.

Court Ruling on N.S.A.’s Data Collection Jolts Both Defenders and Reformers

A federal appeals court ruling that the National Security Agency’s bulk collection of phone records is illegal has scrambled bipartisan efforts to overhaul the program, emboldening those who say the efforts do not go far enough and undermining Senate Republican leaders who want to keep the current program in place.

Although both chambers of Congress are under Republican control, only the House has coalesced around a bipartisan effort to make substantial changes to the government’s bulk data collection, while the Senate has grown more divided in light of the court’s decision. Emblematic of that, the three declared Senate Republicans running for the White House have adopted different positions on a path forward.

“The sacrifice of our personal liberty for security is and will forever be a false choice,” Senator Rand Paul, Republican of Kentucky, wrote for Time magazine, vowing to block even a short-term extension of the Patriot Act, under which phone data has been collected. “And I refuse to relinquish our constitutional rights to opportunistic and overreaching politicians.”

2232  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Are We (USA) A Nation of Wimps? on: May 10, 2015, 03:35:03 AM
We are going to behave as Wimps when we are taught to behave as Wimps. This is BY DESIGN.

First, lets understand the Opposite of Wimp. Confident and Assertive. People that are Confident do everything in their ability to manage all of their lifes problems by themselves that do exist by not surrendering Self Authority to someone else to resolve all of their problems for them. But our manufactured society does not reward people in general for this type of behavior what so ever. In a public school, teachers respond to displays of confidence with punishment and punitive measures. How dare you question my position as a teacher. How dare you question my authority. How dare you place more value on cooperation than obedience. How dare you try to become Emotionally Independent of Grades that are assigned to you. That is the very nature of Public School, to manufacture an Emotionally Dependant Slave. The path to the submissive identity of students is rewarded, while every path to a confident and independent self identity is regarded as a "Problem Child". Like every single one of you, and me.

Now lets look at how Public Schools treat those who are Wimps in comparison to those who outwardly display self confidence. The Wimp runs to the teacher any time there is any sort of problem, whether it is a lack of understanding or someone picking on them. The truly self confident kid doesnt run to the teacher and are constantly told "they need to run to the teacher to solve all their problems for them", thereby attacking the confident identity at every possible turn. Public Schools also manipulate the minds of youth by linking Good Grades through Obedience to the Quality of Character. You are only a Good and Valued member of your Assigned Group if you are Obedient and get Good Grades. The opposite here also needs to be analyzed. If you get Bad Grades, a lot of psychological things happen, in which the intent is to turn the minds of those who get Bad Grades against themselves. The result is the very Mind of the Oppressed becomes the Weapon of the Oppressor. "I am a Bad Person because I got Bad Grades." "I don't deserve to be treated with respect because I got Bad Grades." "I don't deserve a good paying job because I got Bad Grades." And this type of self attack happens on every level of the Self Identity. "I am stupid" is the self attack on ones Intellectual Identity. "I dont deserve sex with good looking girls because I get Bad Grades" is a self attack on ones sexual identity, once it manifests in children. But most importantly, it is designed to undermine their self confidence and replace it with emotional dependancy on Authority. "I dont feel good about myself because I get Bad Grades in school." The result of all of these styles of attacking the core identity of the students who display true self confidence is to flat out manufacture a Nation of Wimps.

Wimps will tolerate more abuse than a confident person. There can be varying degrees of confidence, as long as the Wimp Worker Bee is completely dependant on all forms of Authority for their Self Identity. In the Wimp Adult, they call 911 for every problem. "My husband is yelling at me and I am afraid for my life". "My neighbor threatened me when my dog dug up his rose garden". The end result is a populace that is completely dependant in all their forms of self identity on their Controllers. They will turn to the Controllers in times of severe financial distress, and then internalize the financial failure as being their own fault, not the fault of fair and reasonable compensation for the work and labor they provide. These completely dependant respond with "I need Food Stamps" or "Welfare" and "Police" and "Fire Department" and "Military" and are afraid of everything they are told to be afraid of. Be afraid of Bad Weather, for only Govt can help you to recover. Be afraid of Brown People, and that is why Cops shoot Brown People, they are all Evil and wish to do you harm. A constant LIE. The message varys in forms, and each variation results in the same repeated conclusions: YOU NEED CONTROLLERS TO CONTROL YOU.

A true Nation of Manufactured Wimps.

Virtually the same spiel he's been chanting for decades, isn't it?

When Ron Paul accepts Bitcoin as superior to gold, I'll listen to him again.
I have to agree w/ that point, Ron has been a neanderthal when it comes to gold and bitcoin acceptance. The former is great and the latter is worthy of talk but that's it.

Rand spoke at Arizona State University yesterday to an audience of about 600+, too bad is was finals' week and a friday but decent and diverse crowd nonetheless.

Not bad...draws almost as many people as Joe Biden.  Wink
The next University visit/speech will have more as daddy-Ron usually corralled at least a thousand to plenty more during his tenure. Rand could've easily doubled attendance if it wasn't finals' week, of course I would've like the whole damn campus to show up.

I vote to throw these bot-tenders overboard w/ no life vests for their crimes of annoyance and weekend warrior bullcrap. Let's continue the progress on Monday when the fun opens up again.

As in any area, those ahead of the curve are looking to preserve their wealth and authorize a portion of said wealth into some serious growth factors. In true form, the wealthy-money conscious are more in-tune w/ strategies sooner than the rest so I'd expect the likes of those Greeks to come into our fertile ground prior to the rest. So many of the regulars there are simpletons and focusing on what the government should do for them rather than believing in themselves to find an escape route.

As most of us are here for bitcoin and the ideas of decentralization, I'd presume that that would be the same sentiment when it comes to nation-states. Regional government will be less responsive to the people than a sole national govt and world govt even worst.
2238  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Seems like we are getting closer to a 'Hunger Games' type dystopian future on: May 10, 2015, 01:13:28 AM
We probably are but it likely depends on what area you live in and what your current and future comfort levels are. It takes a lot of sand to start revolting against your government and the policing agents that live among you. Very few places on earth have populations that are armed w/ competitive weaponry as the state but none have the armored personnel carriers that are impervious to light arms like the state does, especially in america. That said, a large population like the US w/ such a large territory offers plenty of bug out areas where people can go survive in while the state agents are focused more on urban marshal law if and when it came to that.

Jeb: George W. Bush is a top foreign policy adviser

Washington (CNN)Jeb Bush cited his brother, former President George W. Bush, as one of his main advisers on the Middle East in a private meeting in Manhattan on Tuesday, according to three people who attended the off-the-record event.

The comment came as a shock to some who were in the room because Jeb, a likely presidential contender, has taken pains to publicly distance himself from his brother and his controversial policies, particularly in that area of the world.

In a national security speech in February, Bush said, "I am my own man," and he has insisted he would develop his own policies on foreign affairs if he decides to run for president.

His comments behind closed doors indicate a closer connection to his brother. After a previous dust-up about who was counseling him on world issues, Jeb was asked Tuesday about his foreign policy advisers. That's when he listed his brother.

The Washington Post reported that Jeb cited his brother as an adviser on Israel, however, four sources confirmed to CNN that the comments were focused on foreign policy more broadly. Three of them said Jeb noted his brother was an adviser on the Middle East.

One of the people in the room jotted down Jeb's comment as such: "What you need to know is that who I listen to when I need advice on the Middle East is George W. Bush."

2240  Economy / Speculation / Re: SecondMarket Bitcoin Investment Trust Observer on: May 09, 2015, 10:56:15 PM

In the short term, since it was easier to get the BIT into a tax deferred retirement account, the fees are probably worth it.

Long term, if bitcoin takes off, there will no doubt be competition, and COIN / other investment vehicles will pop up with lower fees.  And since it is in a tax-deferred account, David will be able to roll into one of those investments without taking a capital gain hit.

I hear you. Over time if more of these vehicles are created, fees will drop. I read somewhere that fees on some ETF's are as low as 0.04%. Makes this one seem even more extortionate. And I would imagine COIN will not be in a hurry to undercut GBIT by very much, if at all, given they will be a genuine ETF.
We will need a lot more competition than that to see fees drop significantly IMO.

Interesting to hear that he could 'roll' between them without penalties. I have no knowledge of any of these rules.
How does the tax deferral of a retirement account work? If it is just a deferral, is any CGT paid at the same rate at the end of the day? Or is there some tax relief too?

There are two general types.  One a 401k or simple IRA, allows you to invest a certain amount of income, and that investment is not considered earnings or otherwise taxed (meaning you can invest more upfront).  The investment then grows without taxes, capital gains or dividends.  When you reach the qualifying age and withdraw the money, it is taxed as ordinary income.  But, ideally you are in a lower tax bracket as you are retired.

Roth IRAs let you invest after tax income, but then distributions are not taxed.

Lots of other details.
Which is subject to change when they run out of money to tap into and subsequently come for pensions and 401Ks to nationalize. Or, the market just collapses and you're wiped out either way.
