2221  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin losing value on: July 02, 2011, 01:04:05 AM
Actually, I'm quite happy with where we are BTC-rate wise. It isn't pushing stratospheric levels, difficulty has a chance of not being 50% the next adjustment, and some of the 'OMG BUBBLE' hype has died down. And we're talking what, maybe two dollars and change off of the pre-technical-difficulty-crash of 17.51 ... I'd say that is a testament to the strength of bitcoin.

I don't mind 'weak hands' cashing out here. If you aren't in it for the longer term, I really don't know why you bothered in the first place. And I'm not talking about speculation, either. I mean actual commitment to the system overall.

I'll be here long after the fair-weather-friends are gone. How about you?
2222  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fake twitter accounts posting about Bitcoin on: July 02, 2011, 12:04:37 AM
I noticed there is suddenly a large number of fake twatter accounts tweeting canned tweets about bitcoin.  Several dozen tweets an hour.  Maybe someone is trying to manipulate the price of bitcoin by doing this?

Perhaps a little thing called 'proof' could be offered? Just show us say, the top 10. Thanks in advance Smiley
2223  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin plus - is it owned by a member of this forum? - RANT ALERT! on: July 02, 2011, 12:00:15 AM
If anything, this just points out the potential problems of pool-mining. You are at the mercy of the operator, who sets the fees and such. Like others have stated, you have two possible choices. One, just quit, or Two - set up your own. That is just the way it is.
2224  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin losing value on: July 01, 2011, 11:41:53 PM
We really need a "OMG MARKET DOING <THIS>" sub-forum. These threads are so silly. You nervous nellies Smiley
2225  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Ads - 30 second spots - Updated on: July 01, 2011, 11:27:03 PM
I don't like the first 3 because of the (imo cheesy) "Reason <random number> blah" approach. That shit is tired.

The 3rd.. better, could be a little better.

I guess this is the part where I ask you to make yours, so I can compare Smiley

Hey, they seem to be racking up some decent viewing numbers, so they can't be *that* bad, lol.

2226  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PC World Claims Counterfeit Bitcoins on: July 01, 2011, 04:57:10 PM
Hope someone set these idiots straight in their article comments.

Honestly, can't turn around without someone perpetuating some kind of nonsense.
2227  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Ads - 30 second spots - Updated on: July 01, 2011, 04:55:35 PM
I'm not an expert in advertising, but I think the spots are a little long for the amount of information conveyed.  Would a 15-second spot be better for one "why," or two "whys" in a 30-second spot?

EDIT: On second thought, maybe the length is about right for someone totally unfamiliar with the concept.

It's just one format I settled on. If you have other ideas, go for it! They're all out there just to get some interest generated. Some of the more technical presentations of bitcoin can be a bit of a turnoff for regular people. I just wanted to distill some of the ideas into easily presentable videos Smiley

Bump.

Added another today - "Bad Economy?" See parent post.

Thanks!

The main block to point-of-sale is the transaction confirmation time. This can be solved by having two services running in tandem, one - the POS infrastructure, and two - an escrow-like service that pays the merchant immediately, but is left minding the verifications for final settlement.

You wouldn't be able to use credit cards or reversible-charge mechanisms, unless the escrow side of the business thought it was an acceptable risk. (I don't see why they'd bother, really - just stick with bitcoin in general.)

Don't know if you can shoe-horn a custom client into a small POS card-reader. That is another hurdle to overcome. Still possible, I think.

I haven't used these guys personally, but perhaps some external casing could be produced by this 3D printing outfit?

http://www.shapeways.com/materials/material-options

The maximum dimensions for something pretty strong is like 40 x 10 inches, more than enough. If you already have access to some kind of CNC prototyping, never mind. Just thought I'd mention it.
2232  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Proposal for a physical bitcon "wallet" on: June 30, 2011, 11:40:02 PM
Perhaps some kind of embedded linux device. There are a few that are barely bigger than their RJ-45 network ports. The only thing to consider would be the amount of storage, and how to access it via TightVNC or SSH.

http://axiomtek.com/products/ListProduct.asp?ptype1=202&ptype2=205&ptype3=183

Older list of devices here, but some should still be around:

Just need a good enclosure and you'd have a close-to-pocket-size dedicated wallet!

2233  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin iPhone App for FREE!! on: June 30, 2011, 11:33:00 PM
If its the one I think it is, it seems useful for the alerts alone. Just search in the app store for "bitcoin" and a few will pop up.

Is "Bitcoin Ticker" the one you meant?
2234  Economy / Speculation / Re: CRASH! on: June 30, 2011, 11:24:29 PM
I'm not really in a sweat over this. As others have stated, markets fluctuate Smiley

We've gotten 1 to 2 dollar swings in the past, so I can't really get worked up here. Just keeping an eye on the ticker, like usual.
2235  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Ads - 30 second spots - Updated on: June 30, 2011, 10:49:44 PM
Well done!  I like.

I do agree with the point about the use of "our websites".  I think just "visit: bitcoin.org and bitcoin.it" sound better and more succinct.

Thanks for putting those together.

Appreciate it, thinking up some more Smiley

Suggestions welcome. If it fits in the format, (sentences can't be too long, I'd like to keep them large and readable), then I'll use it!
2236  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Ads - Spot 1 on: June 30, 2011, 08:11:00 PM
I see your point, but I like the cohesive feel of 'our sites' personally. If it becomes a bigger issue I can re-edit, but I'd like to stick with it for now.
Alternate to have no domains attached but giving an easy path for a viewer to go down, because people do need to be led by hand sometimes, "Type 'Bitcoin' in Your Favorite Search Provider" or something to that extent

I'll experiment with a few things and see if I can make it easier for them. For now, I have the sites linked in the description. I don't like how YouTube handles annotations, I feel it disrupts the video immersion. Appreciate the feedback!

Also, have a few more up there - it is becoming addictive, haha.
2237  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Ads - Spot 1 on: June 30, 2011, 07:11:56 PM
I like it. The only thing I would change is when you say "visit our website". I don't think it should be possessive, it makes it seem like we're a brand or a company.

I see your point, but I like the cohesive feel of 'our sites' personally. If it becomes a bigger issue I can re-edit, but I'd like to stick with it for now.
2238  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Ads - Spot 1 on: June 30, 2011, 04:48:42 PM

The theme music reminded me of The Ventures. With that said, I offer up this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nB3Ma2EkMy0 to be use on Reason 739: No More Clogged Pipelines.

(feel free to change the word clogged)

Thanks for the music reference, but I have to stick with Creative Commons licensed music to avoid any takedown notices from copyright holders. Nice video, though.

2239  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Ads - Spot 1 on: June 30, 2011, 04:46:32 PM
Nicely done... but where are the other 900 and change?  Cheesy

I wanted to use the "Reason < high number >" format to emphasize there were many facets of bitcoin that would appeal to people. One may be more important than the other, depending on their usage of the system.

Just having fun with the format Smiley
2240  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PayPal Predicts The End of the Wallet By 2015 on: June 30, 2011, 04:25:16 PM
You guys are going to love my next 30-second spots, because I poke directly at "Certain Payment Processors" *cough* Paypal *cough*. I don't do it explicitly by name, but most people will get it. Smiley
