2222  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC Store - BitSyncom on: March 01, 2013, 02:15:54 PM
BitSyncom,
As long as I want to order some Avalons when batch 2 reopens, I will ask you to confirm following:

1. Will you send us a letter notifications when batch 2 shall reopen?
2. Are we going to be able to trade-in lancelots? The trade-in is not still available on the store
3. Ca we pay as guest using walletbit - transfer BTC from our wallets?

I am waiting for your responses
Thank you

1. yes.
2. not yet, but it will be. trade-in has a higher priority than regular batch orders when it comes to shipping, except we are still trying to figure out what is the best way to handle this.
3. yes, this has always been true I think there was some false information spreading around about that.

Bit are you going to resell the Lancelots?

I live in NYC we could work something out.
Not really for the moment:). Besides i am in EU and it would be a lot of pain for me to ship them to non EU country:) I
2223  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Avalon ASIC Batch #1 Ships on: March 01, 2013, 11:09:57 AM

someone didn't check their mail Wink

Nice to hear that BitSyncom:)

However:
1. Would you be so kind with the mail containing tracking number to send us and invoice also. It is very important for me and probably for other folks to have it in hand before handling local custom procedures. It is pain in the ass to deal with customs not having invoice. What about Avalon name printed in the invoice - a word on that will be mostly welcomed
2. About Trade-in batch 2
Why you need to wait for FPGA to land as long we paid full amount already?

One week in advance is a  little bit low. Can you  inform us 2-3 weeks in advance so we can send FPGA to avoid batch 2 shipment delays because of that?
And can you clarify that: Trade-Ins/Old Customers - your unit will ship soon as we receive the FPGA and you've paid the difference.
I have already paid full amount for batch 2 order. I expect one of two to happen
Get additional ASIC PCB as bonus (pay some extra if needed - Lancelot board is priced at 399) or to get a refund amounting to 399 US at current BTC/USD rate when you got my FPGA in your hands

2224  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon will ship 290 units by tomorrow, correct? on: February 28, 2013, 12:00:10 PM
Well, I'm a batch #1 and #2 customer. I would be satisfied just by hearing something about batch 1 Tongue. So far, since late January, I sent several e-mails, a support ticket and a private message to BitSyncom and I promptly received no answer to any of them. None of them asked where is my order, what's happening to it or something like that and they weren't pushy in any way. I just asked them if they could ship my first order via EMS and had a couple of customs questions. I don't mind them being late and I don't mind BitSyncom being hard to reach, I realize this thing is keeping him busy. But it's been more than a month since I asked a couple of fairly simple questions and it's starting to feel a little disappointing.
+1
I am in the same boat here and i feel other folks are also.

BitSyncom pls do your best and try to answer us
Thank you very much in advance!

2225  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC batch 2, OpenWRT, VirtualBox, IPv6-Hurricane Electric Tunnel on: February 26, 2013, 09:00:56 AM
Yeah... don't think you're fitting all that in 4 MB flash Wink

Might try out BFGMiner's "avalon" branch while you're at it - they you could point it at bitcoind for GBT solo mining Smiley

I know Luke:)

I do not have avalon yet unfortunately:)

I just try to make my life easier when i have it.
By the way do you have any feedback from someone who has tried it BFGMiner's "avalon" branch. Is it hanging?
What bothers me much that there might be an issue with controller - the place where interface cables from AVALON PCB's are connected and this is the reason why power off/on solves it but not cgminer restart or avalon unit soft reboot.

2226  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC batch 2, OpenWRT, VirtualBox, IPv6-Hurricane Electric Tunnel on: February 26, 2013, 08:47:36 AM
You dont have to use openwrt on the machine for routing / running bitcoind.
it seems you are looking for solo mining or p2pool? personally the solo miner should keep the connections to big known nodes.

I know learning to configure openwrt could be helpful, but it seems xiangfu wont let you install any other packages, so ipv6 on the openwrt of the embedded 703n is not possible unless you'd like to spend time recompiling.

I'm just excited / anxious about getting the box, I think I should prepare somehow and can't think of anything else intelligent to do.  I've set almost everything in my SOHO/lab to work with IPv6, so I naturally thought I would do the same with the Avalon.  I GPU mined for a few days on a couple of different pools, that seemed to go ok, though I'll never get close to the payout threshold with GPU.

I've made a couple of PCBs, so I have a tiny bit of skill.  I don't feel called on to do that much customization on the Avalon, as I view it as an appliance, at least until it is paid for.

Still, it bugs me now that I don't have OpenWRT working.  I don't really see how that is OT in a Bitcoin forum, but by all means feel free to go there.

I need to customize image because:
1. I need 3g modem support as backup for the internet
2. I need openvpn so i could be able to access the unit remotely always
3. I need php so i can be able to view miner.php as i used to
4. I need snmpget, set so i can be able to automate power off on when there is a problem with the unit and it stops hashing for some reason. As stated power off/on is the only way to go for now
5. I need to be able to hack/upgrade cgminer as soon as something new pops up

And i need 8M flash to do it:)
2227  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC batch 2, OpenWRT, VirtualBox, IPv6-Hurricane Electric Tunnel on: February 25, 2013, 08:32:04 AM
Flash is only 4M not enough:)
You have to be able to make your custom image and change the flash with something bigger 8M/16M that is the only way to go:)

I am struggling for a couple of days now to build custom image with stuff i like. Even though wireless modules are removed about 1M uncompressed space i have no luck:)

I will go with HW mod instead Flash cost is about 3 USD only...
2228  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: February 24, 2013, 03:35:14 PM
Does the restart seem to fix it? (Hardware errors)

Yes.

Asic-J wrote "Avalon comes with Antec 650 watt bronze PS. It is only capable of 82% efficiency. (533 watts)." Could that be the problem causing the errors, if possible it is, have you considered trying a beefier psu in it?

Your calculations are wrong it is capable of 650 watt Output which means 650x 1.2 roughly 780 wats at the wall. However if the psu is crapy it might be issue also not providing enough amps and making whole system to bug because of that Smiley
there are two 12V rails up to 30 Amps. According to specs it shall be OK unless PDU board does not spread the load. If three ASIC units are powered from one 12 V rail it would be a problem, but i am sure that nghzang took care of that:)
2229  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: February 24, 2013, 02:57:44 PM
Anyone who need to find the IP address of their unit could use Nmap.

Ip is well known already:)
Besides nmap is good if you know or have an idea what you are looking for:) What about scanning whole B or A network:)

Edited my post to add router log. Much more efficient. What happen if you connect 2+ units they all get the same static IP? Smiley

Any way dude:) The Ip address would be the last "issue" for us. Besides the static ip address  is assigned by default unit gets ip address via dhcp when told so:). Just use a computer with crossover cable(just in case), plug it in avalon Ethernet port and configure it Smiley

Make sure you PC LAN has STATIC address/mask assigned matching the sub net where avalon default ip is:)

You have to think about how to know when avlon stops hashing as reported here and to be able to power off/on REMOUTELY. That will be the main issue until there is a fix for it. Think about that not the ip:)
And that process shall happen automatically:). I do have solution for that (snmp managed power switch) and when avalon comes in my hands i will test it and publish it here if needed and hang issue is not fixed. Moreover that solution shall inspect avalon temp (via separate temp sensor) and it can power off the unit remotely/automatically in case of overheating:)

techwtf any chance of some small guide been provided on what you did to configure it and get it up and running. I know The units has as much as own system and connection and web inter phase any details on setting up checking temps speeds.

Any chance of some videos and guides regarding this?

updated some details about monitoring. it should have no difficulty if you have played with openwrt before. make sure you save and apply the settings.

Never used openwrt before that is why was asking how to or make some videos or instructions to get running ad awaiting arrival of own unit
Hey,It is easy:)
Have you configured scho router via web interface?
IP/MASK/GW DNS or DHCP client(!!!Shall be avoided static ip is preferable) - as long as utp is connected to WAN
Cgminer has a web backed as far as i can see - you have to enter pool url , user(worker) and password form openwrt web interface

That shall be all
2232  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My Impression of Avalon Machine on: February 23, 2013, 05:08:43 PM
Yes there are a LOT of statistics available via the API.
It's simply a case of finding what stats show the problem they are having with the hardware and using that.
(Yes from what was said before 'MHS 5s' did not go down to 0 when the problem occurred)
Thanks Kano i missed that info:)
2233  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My Impression of Avalon Machine on: February 23, 2013, 04:46:32 PM
Hello,

How is going with Avalon stability? Is it ok or you need to act when it stop hasshing.
---------------------
6 there is some monitoring logic in cron, but it does NOT prevent the machine to get wonky (jgrazik & me both have experienced, crying~~).
Here is a snippet might be useful.
(default port is 4028. I'm not responsible for any loss if the snippet doesnt work as expected. you should know a little bash scripting)
RESTART_MONITOR="(echo -n 'devs' | nc ${IP} ${PORT} | grep 'MHS 5s=0.0') && (echo -n 'restart' | nc ${IP} ${PORT})"

----------------

As i can understand that this script is not much reliable. Can you clarify why from the following options

1. (echo -n 'devs' | nc ${IP} ${PORT} | grep 'MHS 5s=0.0')  - it is not reliable and even avlon not hashing you are never finding string 'MHS 5s=0.0'
2. echo -n 'restart' | nc ${IP} ${PORT} - Restarting cgminer is not solving the problem
3. restart the machine (soft reboot) from ssh/telnet with reboot command is not slowing the problem
4. Power Off and On (hard reboot) is the only solution?

In general i am interested to know the following:
1. Is there automated way (via script locally) to find out for sure that avalon is not hashing
2. Only power off/on solves the problem or soft reboot from the script will do the job?

The miner was power-cycled.  (updated original note to indicate this)

Is this helping out (working) to automate the process of restarting?

Doc,
I am waiting for my avalons to land. And i love your pool and i will mine here. However according to this thread

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=145885.0

-----------------------------------
4 please DO preconfigure the diff of ALL the pools (including the backup ones), var diff may slow down the machine at first until the diff is adjusted.
-----------------------------------

Var diff can slow things down a bit. Do you have plans to implement preconfigurable diff per worker in near feature? For 64300-64500 MHash/s diff about 64 shall be just right in order to have about 20 submited shares per minute and not to "flood" the pool right?

Best

PS: As long some instability issues are reported from avalon users a nice feature available via perks will be inactivity mail notification - per worker. What about it?

1.when i mine with getwork with diff 1 given by the pool i submit every share
2. When i mine with stratum and diff 8 given by the pool i submit one of eight at average - there is variation of course
3. Is it possible in theory that those 8 shares skipped to be able to solve the block? Because if i was using getwork with diff 1 given by the pool they shall be ok and submitted to the pool right?

If your proof of work hash is above difficulty 1.6 million then it is also above difficulty 8, so there won't be any problems. Any proof of work that can create a valid block will be submitted by the client.

Edit: I emailed the data that was logged about your proof of work to the email address registered with your Bitminter account.

Can i share this with Kon after i check it?

2238  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [2000 GH/s] BitMinter.com [ASIC support: var diff, Stratum, GBT, rolllntime] on: February 22, 2013, 03:00:15 PM
Recently i found a block but cgminer did not report it. I have found blocks before with getwork and i was able to see Found block count > 0 matching the actual found blocks reported buy bitminter

Maybe this is a bug in cgminer. Or if you have multiple workers, did you check them all?

1. Mining software knows that it shall shall submit work only if its matching difficulty (let say 4).
2. Mining software shall check if valid shares which are less that required difficulty solve the block

You mean above the required difficulty to solve the block. Above difficulty = below target.

3. If yes they shall be submitted to the pool even though they are not matching pool difficulty

The difficulty given by the pool (1-4096 currently) will always be lower than the difficulty for creating a block (currently 3.6 million).

Even if the mining difficulty was not capped (currently at 4096) you would still need a worker with a hashrate that would produce 20 bitcoin blocks per minute on average, for the server to give you a mining difficulty that is higher than the difficulty to create a block. If you receive enough ASICs for that then I recommend splitting them up over multiple worker accounts, at least until the network difficulty goes up.

What i am asking is are any potential issues from both miner and pool if a share solving the block can be rejected by the pool or not sent by software?

It could be a potential problem if you added a new worker that had 200 times the hashpower of the rest of the network. So if the current network hashrate is 30 TH/s and you add hardware doing 6000 TH/s on a single worker account, then we need to look into it. In that case, please let me know in advance. Wink

Thanks doc!

My explanation sucks.
What i am talking about is:

1.when i mine with getwork with diff 1 given by the pool i submit every share
2. When i mine with stratum and diff 8 given by the pool i submit one of eight at average - there is variation of course
3. Is it possible in theory that those 8 shares skipped to be able to solve the block? Because if i was using getwork with diff 1 given by the pool they shall be ok and submitted to the pool right?

Yes i do have two workers and checked them both - none of them was showing that block was fond and  no i do not have asic yet:)

If you have log of share which solved block http://bitminter.com/block/btc/0000000000000201264143a1bca71fc300d02bf0a3e0d8cd85a407024abd7129

2239  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER GPU FPGA overc monit fanspd RPC stratum linux/windws/osx/mip/r-pi 2.10.5 on: February 22, 2013, 12:25:01 PM
Hello,
There might be potential Found block bug in cgminer 2.10.5. I had found about 5-10 blocks since i start mining.  With old versions of cgminer (getwork) I was always able to see Found Blocks count > 0 from the cgminer api. Recently i Found a block and my pools says that is me who found it. But cgminer shows 0 under Found blocks menu. My question is follows: When mining with stratum and diff > 1 let say 8, is there any chance cgminer not to report to pool that block is found. In general what happens when we found a block, and our share matches to diff 1 which does not meet pool requirement for diff 4 for instance? Is there any chance found block to be wasted and never reported to the pool?

No

10X!
But it is still misery for me why found blocks counts to zero when it should be 1?
For the record this share solved both NMC and BTC block:)

Anyway thank you for taking time to respond me Kon:)

I'm being a smartarse Smiley

I got BTC5 riding on BFL delivering before 1st March. (That's currently US$153.25 folks!)
You shall bet with something else:) That bet is lost....Better bet is to buy avalon from second batch if possible and the chance to get it before any BFL asic is still good enough:)
