2242  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / CheapAir.com Now Accepting Litecoin and Dogecoin on: September 03, 2014, 09:07:58 PM

It’s now being reported on Reddit that CheapAir.com, the first online travel agency to accept Bitcoin, has now integrated both Litecoin and Dogecoin into its payment system.

CEO Jeff Klee says, “if our customers have a need, we’ll go to great lengths to come up with a solution.” This time, that solution apparently was expanding their accepted digital currency payment methods to include two additional cryptocurrencies.

The company announced recently that they had already processed over $1.5 million in Bitcoin transactions since first implementing the option in November 2013.

CheapAir.com, a veteran of online travel booking, first hit the Internet back in 2000. Long before, starting in 1989, CheapAir.com was known as 1-800-Cheap-Air. Using new technology to make travel easier and less expensive has long been a hallmark of the company. Adopting cryptocurrency before the rest of the industry seems to be part of a larger pattern of innovation for the company.

Launched in January of 2009, Bitcoin is the world’s “first decentralized digital currency,” according to bitcoin.org. Today, bitcoins are accepted by a number of merchants including Overstock.com, Dish Network, and TigerDirect.

2244  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Where do you see these coins in next 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, and 5 years? on: September 02, 2014, 11:43:17 AM
i think that only bitcoin and litecoin will survive next 2 or more years.

Slowly all the other altcoin you have wrote will die.

I don't think this is likely due in part to the fact that decentralized currencies have minimal operational costs once created.
2245  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto Identity? on: September 02, 2014, 02:59:54 AM
I don't know I've read many times Satoshi Nakamoto = NSA group but they seemed like magicians before the NSA revelations. Who else are digital magicians who truly did innovation and something new to the world other than NSAtoshi like in the altcoin sphere are there any or even a few? Thanks for answers looking forward guys

I'm so curious... I imagine him like a good looking math/cs professor hard working type who likes japanese philosophy and ideas how about you guys?  or is it perhaps a group of scientists?

It's funny you should ask this question.

There's a new kid in town and he spends his hours writing the most golden code of all. He's in the process now of rewriting the entire codebase of the "vanishing master" Satoshi. You can follow his progress here: https://www.gldtalk.org/index.php?topic=2616.0
2246  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 51% attack considered harmless on: September 01, 2014, 04:33:15 AM
A 51% attack would be something that could be pulled back from but it would take a long time. It definitely would cause a lot of problems that is for sure if there was an attack of this size, people would lose confidence and it would take a long while for that confidence to be regained.

There is code that will prevent the 51% attack custom built into Goldcoin. It's open source. Enjoy!  Cheesy
2247  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Too many gizmos and doo-dads in some of the new coins on: September 01, 2014, 04:29:51 AM
Bitcoin devs are just lazy and refuse to innovate that piece of junk old school jalopy of a coin. Tongue

Satoshi was the innovator. He's been replaced by a younger and brighter star!  Wink
2248  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Reality check on alts on: September 01, 2014, 01:52:54 AM
Next  year, scrypt coins get legitimized and the increased hashing power will increase the overall security of the coins enabling investors to start to place bets on the next bitcoin.

These are my sentiments as well.

I think we might first see some consolidation and then a resurgence in 2015 with the consumer playing a greater role in determining the winners and the losers.
2249  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core Developers say Altcoins are unsecure on: September 01, 2014, 01:44:05 AM
more computing power distributed = more secure coin

this is the right answer.

Not exactly. I think the price of the coin also needs to be taken into consideration due to the incentive factor.
2250  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core Developers say Altcoins are unsecure on: August 31, 2014, 11:01:02 PM
I'd say to the guy in the video, people in glass houses  Cool

Yes. The fact is Satoshi often times held 75% of the Bitcoin hashrate, then later vanished into thin air with over 1 million bitcoins, right at a time when he claimed the network was vulnerable to attack (see his last post). That's documented history. The fact is, many altcoins are just as secure as bitcoin.

Take Goldcoin (GLD) for example which features a unique 51% defense system, something lacking entirely in Bitcoin.
2251  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Goldcoin (GLD) Nears One-Month High Amidst Chaos on: August 31, 2014, 07:38:53 PM
Well I'm sorry to break it to you, but there is this: Volume $ 268.
That's the problem with most coins these days, the volume is either too low or non existent.

There are too many to go around, why do you think that Goldcoin might succeed?

I think Goldcoin's volume is low at the moment due to a variety of factors including the possibility that some investors might be on the sidelines waiting to see a working example of the new java client, which includes a complete rewrite of the Bitcoin codebase.

2252  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Goldcoin (GLD) Nears One-Month High Amidst Chaos on: August 31, 2014, 07:16:41 PM

If you’ve taken a look lately at Coinmarketcap.com, the odds are you’ve caught a glimpse of an Altcoin battlefield covered in red. However, one coin is rising above the chaos as the price begins testing its one-month high.

Prices are down across the board as early coin adopters scramble to bail the water flooding into their sinking ships. In the mean time, one brave community is working to rise above the ashes and is determined to keep their dream alive. While its developer is hard at work coding his new java client, the remaining members of the Goldcoin (GLD) tribe look to implement a new and innovative capitalization plan.

Prominent community member, Jamie Keefer, is rallying the troops this week around his new capitalization program. The idea is to enroll enough people to add liquidity to the market and absorb the newly mined coins being automatically sold by miners.

Quote from: Jamie Keefer
If people see a committed base it will add value, unlike DOGE or FTC where many people just mine to sell. If we treat GLD as a valued holding, perhaps others will.

When times get tough, it is those that are willing to fight that later stand in the winner’s circle to celebrate. With the most brandable name in cryptocurrency, a world-class development team, and a community with the guts of a champion, you’ve got to like the chances of this feisty group of visionaries.

Goldcoin (GLD) is a popular digital currency that allows consumers to make online purchases with little to no fee. Goldcoin is currently trading near its one-month high at just under one cent per coin with a market capitalization of $280,389.00 according to Coinmarketcap.com.

2254  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Coin investment research criteria??? on: August 31, 2014, 03:27:43 PM
How can you quantify that?

You might measure the total amount of activity across all community platforms like, reddit, bitcointalk, forums, facebook, twitter, etc. At some point there needs to develop an autonomous nature to this energy, like a locomotive that begins gaining steam under it's own power.
2255  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Coin investment research criteria??? on: August 31, 2014, 03:02:25 PM
What are the important criteria that you look at when deciding which crypto to invest in? Here are a few that I find important but want to hear from the community as well:

1.   Premined?
2.   Algorithm/Security (PoW/PoS/Hybrid)
3.   Inflation (coins per day/daily tax on network)
4.   Longevity (new, dead, etc)
5.   Website
6.   Block Explorer
7.   Paper Wallet Generator
8.     Innovation
9.     Marketing
10.   Community

I think one of the key factors is in building a community that has sustainable organic growth. That's the ticket.
2256  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What Do You Want In a Coin? on: August 31, 2014, 02:53:08 PM
What are you looking for in a coin in order to invest in it? What do you need to use it as currency?

For fall disclosure, I plan on compiling these responses along with those from other sources into an article at virtfund.com.

The coin needs to have a brandable name that appeals to the masses, a top-notch development team, an ideology that embraces innovation, and a community that works together as a cohesive union.

Dreamwatcher has just alerted me that the domain Goldcoinfaucet.com is expiring today.

He's willing to transfer the domain to an interested member of the Goldcoin community that might want to develop the name.
