You can honor Messi in different ways other than retiring no.10 jersey.

Yeah that's a good idea as well. Retiring a number seems a bit much but hey you can always come down to like making a statue like City recently did by putting statues of Vincent Kompany and David Silva in front of their stadium. There are many ways in which a club acknowledges such player's contribution but then it is upto club whether they want to or not or in which way they want in done.

Ronaldo, yesterday after scoring the two goals that gave Portugal the victory, in the interview said that he was very excited and motivated to have returned home - Man United. He feels very happy and motivated in this new phase of his career.

He will certainly give Man United fans a lot of joy.

Wished that he scored that penalty also and that would have be hat-trick for him but still he broke the record and become the top international goal scorer. United and Portugal fans will be overjoyed with this achievement. I am not a fan of United myself but still can't wait for their match against Newcastle about 7-8 days from now and see how he kicks things off with Red Devils. Always wanted to see how Ronaldo at this level will play in PL.

It is a bit cheeky for Barcelona to let Ansu Fati take the number 10 right away. Don't get me wrong he is a great player and I believe that he will be good in the future as well, it is obvious that he will not be as good as Messi and nobody should expect that from him neither.

However at the end of the day Messi wore number 10 for so long and he is the legend of this club and giving away his jersey number right away is a very weird thing. This is why I prefer the NBA method, they just retire the jersey number of a player and that way you end up with nobody ever being that number ever again.

I do not know if football has that commonly but in our nation that is not available at all, and if any person deserved their number to be retired by his club that was Messi, dude played nearly 20 years for Barcelona and won so much with them while being the best player ever to play the game, and what did they do? Give his number away like he was never there.

Well maybe that is because in football certain jersey no.s represents certain roles like playmaker, poacher and so. It goes on and on from one generation to another. Retiring a no. is a good idea if maybe someone takes a unique no. like something other than 10 ,9, 8 ... Anyway jersey no.s doesn't matters much IMO does it?

With a stable performance this season, maybe they will try to get an experienced striker in the team next season.

It is a bit hard for teams newly promoted usually to find someone experienced to get into the team. However they could get some young stars who had good season from other league's but if they have to make some good signings then they need to make a name and IMO it is a long road before they get to that stage.

A. Griezman is the only one who has changed within the league - all the others have also changed the country

That's because nobody others had any interest on him except for Atletico. Diego Simeone did stated earlier that he would be happy to work with Griezmann again as he has good relation with him. It is also a good for Barca as they got free from the wages that they were giving him. He was the top earner in Barca after Messi if I am not wrong.

Messi's departure was heartbreaking this entire transfer window but he would have stayed if it wasn't for those LaLiga regulations. Anyway FC Barcelona just announced Ansu Fati taking the no. 10 jersey so its time for him to carry on the legacy now. (Source: https://twitter.com/FCBarcelona/status/1433008489622872071)

Hope he shine at Barca like Messi did.

Adama is like a headless chicken - running around hitting things without any clue what he's supposed to be doing. He would probably have been a good NFL receiver, in football he's mostly useless.

He's got insane strength and speed, but what good is that if he makes a bad decision in every possible situation with the ball at his feet?

If they did not teach him any technique in La Masia, there's no hope of that ever happening. He'll be used as a brute force, nothing more than that. 50 mil for that kind of player is like throwing them into the ocean.

I share your annoyment in seeing this guy portrayed as a good player - technically there are 10-year olds in local clubs that are better than him.

Yeah I agree with this^^

Adama Traore has insane speed and strength but he does tends to make wrong moves when moving with the ball. A winger/striker also needs to have better judgement in order to put some scores for the team whether it be it himself or by providing the ball for others to score. What I think is he needs a proper mentor to teach him some things but right not at Wolves there isn't any experienced striker who could give him some guidance.

Brentford being able to beat Arsenal is an extraordinary thing why because we always think it will be easy for Arsenal but the fact is that the game is better than Arsenal, it is difficult to revive for Arsenal on par with Chelsea and Mancity.

Brentford's defense line have been great and their goalkeeper too and that is why they are giving a tough fight going into games. They won against Arsenal and played draw against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa which is great considering they are a promoted team from championship.

Against Norwich and Burnley should be able to win next week because they both haven't won the game but if Arsenal misses again then it needs to be updated from the coach's point of view, Arteta is not worth keeping if he loses, it should be faster to find a replacement.

That is what he hope for. 3 points from each of these matches but who knows. Honestly as long as Arteta doesn't resolve the confusion in the defense line I don't think are a very tough team.

Regarding Arteta's getting closer to sack, I have opposite view than others so I rather just stay quiet and see and leave it at that I think he still got trust of the board and time as well. But well let's see.

It is hard to see your team fighting for the first places for years then suddenly become one of the most inconsistent teams then in total chaos. It definitely won't be Bundesliga Schalke but it is sad to see them like that Undecided
Now we have to wait 2 weeks for the next round...

Well they have tough fixtures like Chelsea and City and no wonder they get thrashed in those fixtures but Brentford was an easy one and they lost it too. TBH Brentford are also playing a good football. Anyway next up is Norwich and Burnley and hope they get some points into account from here on now. We have done transfers and now it's time to put them into place and get into action.

It is currently reported that Arsenal are approaching several players namely Takehiro Tomiyasu (Bologna centre-back) and Andrea Belotti (Torino striker) in the last seconds of the transfer market this season, it seems only Takehiro Tomiyasu is likely to be realized before transfer market closing  this season with a fee of 17.2 million pounds plus a bonus of 2.5 million pounds.
Arsenal are currently in talks with Real Betis to negotiate the sale of Bellerin.

https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1432680891462135808

We do need some good CB's to strengthen but wonder if a young CB like Takehiro Tomiyasu is enough. Haven't seen him play but hope that these buys Arsenal are doing gives them result. Arsenal have become one of the busiest PL club in this transfer window and still struggling with that will make them look like a joke.

Bellerin is a good player. Still recall when lot of us used to appreciate his efforts and pace but now all has gotten down as we so less of him in Arsenal matches.

crazy how a football club can say no to 180M 200M...i know it's psg and they have infinite money thanks to qatar and the crooks in uefa allow this, but still...

edit* L'equipe says PSG declined a 200 million offer

From what I see is like PSG value his contributions he is gonna put into till remainder of contract far more valuable than 200 million offer. Yeah it is a lot but guess they don't want to repeat the last Ligue race again where Lille went on to win the Ligue 1 with 1 point lead over PSG. They want to be what I will say " well-equipped" for this season and try to win CL and Ligue 1.

Yeah it's a bit shocking but that is how they think and there are very less with such thinking and mentality- I must say. I wouldn't be surprised if they still decline another good bid. They don't want to sell and their president made it clear when the UEFA groups were drawn that there stance is clear and won't budge from that.

Lukaku will help them a lot up front although at the moment he has to improve.

Yeah he will shine brightly against matches whose defense is dead weak like Norwich for example. But in difficult matches I don't expect him to score much.

I feel this season the Premier League will be much tighter than last season after Manchester United signed Ronaldo from Juventus. Chelsea, Man United, Man City and Liverpool are 4 teams that will still dominate the Premier League this season in my opinion.

There are some underdogs like Aston Villa, West Ham, Leicester(good club now might as well consider them a big club now) doing some good business in transfer window. Also there are other teams who are not that much active but they are signing some good potential players. It will be a good season with crazy changes. Lot of new talents and experienced players have joined in PL teams so I am really looking forward to this season.
2273  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2021/2022 on: August 30, 2021, 05:11:24 PM
Tuchel at Chelsea is a great mix, I believe that they are going to be around for a while, no reason to change manager at all and I think with Lukaku now, they are definitely going to have a much better year this season as well, they are going to end up with a great season and end up winning something for sure, or at least be ahead of what everyone else believed.

Clubs nowadays needs results and once manager fails in delivering those results they become restless and then manager just gets out of chances and eventually club and manager part their ways. So nothing can be said for sure. Tuchel has good strategy so I think he has lot in his bag to pull out of a bad situation but well let's see , right now he is working the team great.

As for Lukaku, he is good but needs to develop. He is good in finishing , header, making some balls for others to shoot but what he lacks is speed and they need some good pace if they are gonna give him the ball in counter. Otherwise they need to work out with wingers to do the run and supply the ball inside for Lukaku to head or shoot. But like I said some good CB's like Van Dijk, and can easily know what they are upto and give such players a hard time and in last game we saw he did and it was not just him even Joe Matip gave him hard time as well.
2274  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2021/2022 on: August 29, 2021, 05:32:36 PM
Wolves played good but the ball refused to enter the goal especially at Saiss double attempt but De Gea did a good job saving it!
Now the result is Wolves 0 - 1 ManU by Greenwood and the game is almost finished, 5 minutes left.
About Spurs, they won as expected and become in the top of the table.

I think United were lucky tonight. Wolves had lot of counter attack breaks but none of break any sweat to De Gea. I think Wolves need a good striker. Traore can make the runs but there always should be someone good enough at the tip of the attack to tuck the ball in. Jimenez has come from a long injury break and Fabio Silva lacks experience, but they need to step up now.

Chelsea  opponent is Liverpool one of the top EPL teams play at home and against 10 players so I don't see a gap for Chelsea to get points their chance is only 10% IMO
If there really is a drama, of course it's very interesting to watch, drama usually comes at the end of the season or in an important match, let's see in the 2nd half.

Atleast there was a chance wasn't it? Chelsea did very well in second half and good changes from Tuchel to bring in Kovacic and Thiago Silva in second half. In second half, the mission of Blues was to just keep on defending and push on counters. They did get one or two breaks but didn't get to a goal. While Liverpool were pushing very since the start of first half and they also quite had some chances but Mendy saved them all proving his worth.

Is that a deserving red card  Huh I don’t think so. It's 1:1, bad luck for Chelsea. I just have won one of my bets but seems I won't win the other one as Chelsea is going to have played with 10 players.

Well the situation could change in the second half after Chelsea played with 10 players, Reece James sent off for red card
Yeah things will change in the 2nd half and it’s going to be in favor of Liverpool.

It was deemed as deliberate handball and that's why he was shown the red card. Quite some drama inside the extra minutes where two players got yellow and one got sent off. It's quite serious for Blues now. Blues can still manage to win but that is gonna take a lot of hardwork. They need pace in attack maybe someone like Werner, Odoi or Ziyech can put some trouble with pace. But let's see how Tuchel react now in next half. I think it is very likely they are gonna switch in some players.

something happened overnight cuz he's been great today. Obviously, BIG are like two tiers below NaVi so that helps  Grin

Oh, missed the Big vs Fnatic as was busy with something but yeah looking at stats on hltv it does seems like he contributed quite well in their win against BIG. Also it is a bit surprising that both new signings are geling up quite well with other members of Fnatic. Both mezii and ALEX also contributed very well in their game against Navi. Overpass was so close yesterday and I like the way they are working so well and committing into certain strategies they put up.

I can see Fnatic lifting up in ranks and they needed to be as they have some good CS history.

Some are having a bad streak but well they have really good players in and quite give us some surprises.
Fnatic actually looked pretty good today, considering how shit they've been for the past few months + the roster changes...too bad jackinho is playing with a controller and a 60hz monitor upside down, 4v5 in every round thanks to this bot 😂

Yeah they surprised me yesterday with how they played both games. Except for Jackinho all played very well. New players also quite made their good show in debut but hoped Jackinho also should have played some part in. He missed quite some sitter in crucial round. Missing two close Awp shots also threw commentators laughing.  Grin

-snip-

Honestly I am surprised with the result of group B. I thought at least G2 and Virtus Pro would be able to go through but they failed and that came as a big surprise. Good play from OG, Forze and Complexity throughout their group matches.

Now it is time to turn the head towards Group C and we have quite some teams there- BIG, Navi, Faze, Mousesports, Fnatic, Evil Geniuses. All teams IMO are quite good. Some are having a bad streak but well they have really good players in and quite give us some surprises.

We'll see how Juventus and Ronaldo's decision, next season Ronaldo is a free transfer, selling him now for 25 million euros is good enough even though it's not as expensive as when Juve bought him. If CR7 returns to Manchester United, maybe this will be his last club until he retires, by sharing sweet memories for the club who makes him become star players. Speculation does not want to return to Manchester United because Olle, may soon get an answer.

Wow just saw the news and what a move from Manchester United in grabbing the forward who is on verge of leaving Juventus. Offer is quite good and what Juventus expects to receive in order to let Cristiano Ronaldo go. Also there is quite a turn in odds from City's 1/5 to now 33 and Ronaldo to United is going on @1/20 according to oddschecker. That would be quite a return and will be interesting to see who is gonna have less playing time in their squad in forward.

Edit: Minutes after writing this post Fabrizio Romano tweeted Ronaldo to United as done deal ✅ https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1431282505311739907
