I would think those cards could mine ZEC as well, no clue what their hashrate is going to be like though.

2282  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: High end gaming Pc on: September 10, 2017, 07:48:38 PM
Titans are a VERY poor choice to mine on, unless you already HAVE the bloody expen$ive things - they don't give any more hashrate than the 1080ti does (or at least not that you would NOTICE) yet cost almost twice as much.

A triple 1080ti rig would make a lot more sense, even from a "insanely high end gaming system" standpoint.

2283  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 7nm miner thread on: September 10, 2017, 07:44:42 PM
Bit of food for thought for those that think 7nm will show up next year.

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/08/intels-next-generation-chip-plans-ice-lake-and-a-slow-10nm-transition/

Given the issues with 14/16nm, and the reported issues getting 10nm up to speed, I'm starting to think that *2019* might be excessively optimistic for actual 7nm production to arrive.

2284  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How is mining successful nowadays on: September 10, 2017, 07:29:01 PM
bitcoin is not profitable anymore. you should try altcoins. but if you will keep your bitcoins you can mine.
Bullsh**
For both BTC or altcoin mining only 2 things matter:
Cost of your electric
Being able to deal with the heat and noise produced

Cover those 2 things and you are Golden. The >US$8k/mo in gross revenue my 240THs farm makes is hardly chicken feed.

Is $0.09 per KWH workable? If so what mining hardware do you recommend?

Also do you know any good calculator (or how tos for a spreadsheet) to take into account changing difficulty over time?

0.09 is marginal for long-term mining. It's been viable since about Febuary this year due to a massive price jump on almost all cryptocoins, but profitability has been dropping a LOT the last couple months as the price rise leveled out and more and more rigs got online to raise the difficulty - and that trend will probably continue for a while since most of the BIG farms are in places with very cheap electric (under 5c/kwh and often more like 3).

Bitcoinwisdom calculator has a "diff increase percentage" field in the calculator, which is a lot better than the "nothing" most other calculators offer.

Guys,  donīt forget the FOLDERPEPE merged folding promotion is still ongoing!...
You mean the token that costs more to multiply relist, trying to sell it, than you can sell it for?  Cheesy

That's been ALL of the "extra bonus" tokens that have been distributed with FoldingCoin.
That would be a lot less of an issue if they would drop usage of that bloody ripoff Counterparty garbage.

I sent out all my recent TX (28 of them) with miners fees of between 1 and 6 sat/byte. Which makes for a maximum total fee of 0.0000159 BTC per TX. I can assure you that you can sell FOLDERPEPE for more than that. The latest orders were filled at 1800 Pepecash per FOLDERPEPE 4 days ago. At the time that was $18 a card. Sorry but it looks to me you donīt know how to use the proper fees. If you pay more than a few satoshis per byte itīs your own election to do so, noone forces you to overpay fees.

SInce when does Counterparty give you an OPTION to pay less than their normal RIPOFF level of fees?
2286  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Gridcoin (GRC) - first coin utilizing BOINC - Official Thread on: September 10, 2017, 07:17:44 PM
I have to wonder if this issue is related to why I've not seen a payout in well over a week, when I USUALLY see a payout daily more-or-less with the amount of coin in my wallet at the moment.

Has ANYONE gotten a payout since the current wallet version went live and mandatory?Huh

2287  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 7nm miner thread on: September 10, 2017, 06:58:21 PM
Should be amusing to read what the masses of folks here folks with no ties to the Semiconductor Industry come up with for their Speculative dreaming thoughts.  Grin

300ths at 500W, shipping Nov 2017!  Wink

whelp that would be epic, but why not making those cores more universal? like GPU they can mine all the altcoins including bitcoin, that would be more profitable lol.

They would be less profitable as there would be a ton of wasted space on the chip and a bunch of circuitry that even in a "powered down" state is STILL going to pull a little power.

The whole REASON that an ASIC is efficient is that it is dedicated to doing ONE thing VERY VERY WELL, as opposed to something like a GPU that has to be set up to do many different things and is not as good at each one.

2288  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Are the Antminers still worth purchasing? on: September 10, 2017, 06:42:12 PM
I've been told 8-10 weeks to get a miner from bitmain. Is that not to be believed?

What are the recommended tools to accurately model futures diffficulty and mining profitability over time (to the extend that's possible)?

Bitmain has been selling ALL of their models on a "2-3 months preorder" basis for several months now - demand exceeds supply that much.

WHEN you can get into their site at all to order anything right after they release a new batch (optimally their current "revamping the site" will DEAL with the traffic load a lot better).

There are no "tools" to accurately model future profitability - prices vary too much for any "model" to work due to factors that often CAN'T be predicted ahead of time (like the Chinese Government).
"Technical Analysis" on cryptocoins is a JOKE, pricing is far too "news driven" for TA to WORK on a market as immature as cryptocoins.
As best, you can estimate it - and hopefully allow ENOUGH to make up for unexpected changes along with expected ones.

The model for future difficulty on SHA256 coins comes down to seeing WHEN a new Bitmain batch is going to be shipped, and how big it is, then adding a "fudge factor" for the apparently much lower sales of gear by Caanan, BW.com, and Bitfury-based miners.
Since the introduction of the S9, difficulty increases on SHA256-based coins have been limited to how many chips the various miner makers can get out of the foundries since they are now competing with the BIG BOYS like Apple, Samsung, Nvidia, AMD, and IBM (but not Intel due to Intel having THEIR OWN foundries) on how much foundry production they can get out of TSMC/Samsung/GF on lines that are probably sold out months ahead of time and running flat-out processing the CURRENT state-of-the-art semiconductor technology.

2289  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining questions AMD cards Help Please. on: September 10, 2017, 06:36:53 PM
I figured as much. Unfortunately I have to return the old card to get the credit. It's just the power usage I am worried about stepping up to an RX580. Are they easier on power than a 290x? Also, is it worth the extra money to get an 8GB version. I would use it occasionally for gaming but the issue is the price really jumps just to get the 8gb version. And alot of the ones that were affordable are out of stock. I can get a 4GB version on a RX 580 for the amount they are going to credit me but to get an 8GB version I'd have to cough up some money to make that happen. I'm between jobs now and dont want to trade in coin that I am holding. I hate cashing out on coins as you have to pay fees to do that. I originally bought this R9 290X Trix OC from Newegg using Bitcoin. Damn the money Id have would b worth a good bit if Id held the btc I bought this card with.I have honestly earned my money back on this card and am about to get a refund for it si I still make out. It's just that I finally flashed a modded stilt bios to it this past week and the fact that im getting a steady 29.4MH from it makes me sick to let it go.

Am I right to think that I should get 30-32 MH with an RX580?

Having 8gb of vram isnt going to really give you more hash rate will it? Its gaming where the extra vram will shine right?

The RX series uses HALF OR LESS the power of a R9 290, much less a 290x.

The difference in mining between 8GB cards and 4GB cards is that the 8GB cards are pretty much always 8000 Mhz ram CLOCK, while the 4GB cards are pretty much always 6600 or 7000 Mhz, NOT due to the extra RAM.

30-32 might be a hair high to expect, but 28-30 with a BIOS modded 480/580 8GB card seems to be the common ballpark.

2290  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining questions AMD cards Help Please. on: September 10, 2017, 03:47:02 AM
Do you HAVE to return the original card to get the credit?

If so, it's worth it to upgrade to a newer, higher performance card like a RX 470/480/570/580 even at the current INFLATED pricing on those cards.

 If not, it's a no-brainer slam dunk.

I doubt we'll see 10 nm (TSMC) or 7nm (GF) available to miner makers before 2019 or VERY VERY LATE 2018.

The first experimental chips might show up in early 2018 or very late 2017, but there won't be capacity to spare from the BIG long-term contract customers for months after that.

With that said - I'd predict the S11 will be around 35 TH at around 1300 watts (at the wall with the AP3++) and available in Febuary 2019 at the soonest.

thanks, i was about to sell all s9 and l3 d3
because of good market price on eBay.
the problem is no colo now and I m stuck to run machines desperately look for good amp industrial zone small rentals, keep searching

Since the D3 is at best the #3 miner CURRENTLY available for X11, it might be worth selling it off early batch ones soon before the BIG difficulty jumps hit.
S9, no point - it's the best AND the most cost-effective on the market WHEN it works (though BitFury based gear SHOULD be capable of getting close).
L3+ is pretty much a tossup for the best on the market WHEN it works AND is the most cost-effective.
2293  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Outlet type for 220V Line - Going to PDU on: September 10, 2017, 03:36:40 AM
L6-30R is probably the most common PDU plug type by a wide margin.

It can often be less expensive to wire up multiple 6-15 or 6-20 outlets to that same 220 line so you don't NEED a PDU though.

yeah he could do 2

l6-20r outlets

and buy 2 of these plugs

http://www.bestmaterials.com/detail.aspx?ID=14826

buy 2 of these power cords

https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=24207

then cut off one end and put the plug onto it.

these would go into the 2400 watt psu.

2 per 30 amp circuit breaker.

but it does involve a bit of wiring skill and you really should have a whole hows surge protector with this as you bypassed the pdu.

NEMA 6-15 would be enough for a 2400 watt power supply running at 220.
There are several companies that make "NEMA 6 plug to standard C13 or standard C19" type power cords - Americable and Iron Box come immediately to mind.
2294  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What is the CFM of the Front fan and the rear fan of the Ant miner S9? on: September 10, 2017, 03:32:41 AM
APC makes some good gear - they are my VERY long time "go to" supplier for UPS systems - but that whitepaper ASSUMES the use of standard air conditioning, which is an expensive BAD choice for most miners in most of the world.

It would be better to reference the Yahoo "Chicken Coop" data center design, which is specifically designed for low cost - or take a good look at the Gigabyte "mining shed" design and all of the other "large farm" flow-through air setups, as miners tend to handle warm temps a little better than most traditional server designs.

Oddly enough, I had a tentative design I'd thought out and done some planning on 2-3 years BEFORE I heard of the Yahoo design - that ended up being somewhat similar but will handle open-rig miners (the Yahoo design DEPENDS on being used with rack-mount cases).

2295  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: gpu bubble well and truly bursting on: September 10, 2017, 03:26:52 AM
X11 WAS profitable - both during most of the Litecoin craze days (though usually not AS profitable as Litecoin) and for a few weeks to a month after Litecoin collapsed, as folks scrambled for something else to mine and eventually swamped the few other options or ended up dropping out of GPU mining entirely.

It was still profitable after that - for folks with VERY CHEAP of free electric, but it quickly hit "breakeven" to a hair worse for those of us that were paying 8c/kwh or more.

2296  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Help pick $1,500 rig on: September 09, 2017, 09:02:01 PM
The 1050 ti doesn't have an inflated price due to it's LOW performance.

IMO the 1060 is a better option even though it DOES still have slightly inflated pricing, because the performance more than makes up for the price especially when you factor in the price of the ENTIRE SYSTEM.

GTX 1070 are still somewhat inflated on price, but I think part of that is NVidia jacked MSRP up $50 recently citing "high RAM costs".

2297  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Anything still worth mining on some Radeon 370s? on: September 09, 2017, 08:58:55 PM
R7 370 is a HD 7870 with MUCH faster ram - that 190 sol/s figure for ZEC looks very reasonable, as I was seeing 160-170 on my HD 7870 cards despite the MUCH slower ram on them.

They'll work for any alt-coin EXCEPT ETH and some of its derivatives like ETC (dag file issue, though some of the offshoots MIGHT still be under 2GB) as long as an AMD-based miner exists for the coin/algo.

2298  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can I make profit by CPU mining ? on: September 09, 2017, 08:55:13 PM
i3 is pretty low end to try to mine on - it MIGHT be profitable on Monero (XMR) but it's going to be a VERY SMALL profit.
i7 would be a much better choice, they can argue with low-to-mid range GPUs on hashrate for usually similar to a little lower power usage.
Ditto higher-end Ryzen.

A LOT of Monero mining is done on used E5-based servers, thanks to serve.the.home and their articles and forum posts about the subject.
2299  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is mining Litecoin still making profit? on: September 09, 2017, 08:51:32 PM
For perspective, my current farm of Innosilicon A2 scrypt miners have a little LESS hash power than a single L3+ while eating 4-5 TIMES the power.

They are VERY profitable - making several times the cost of the electricity they eat - and would be profitable at 20 cent electric (though not by a LOT).
They managed to pay themselves off LAST year - before the big Litecoin price jump - and have done so again with some to spare since Feb or March of this year.

I WAS thinking about selling them off this winter, as their profitability was getting marginal despite my low electric cost - but 20/20 hindsight I'm glad I didn't.

I don't buy break-even in 4 months - diff is climbing too much - but they SHOULD break even sometime next year as long as they don't break.

BTW that power figure in the calculation is low, even BITMAIN states 800 watts +10% (at the wall with the APW 3++) - not that it's going to make a huge difference.

I have no idea where the "50kh per machine" figure is from, that's very very low hashrate FOR A LOW END GPU - which hasn't been usable to mine Litecoin with for a profit for almost 4 years now.
Even my GENERATION OLD OUTDATED A2 miners manage at least 85 Megahash/sec (for the LITTLE one, the big ones are either a bit over 100 or a bit over 110 depending on the power supply in each one).

2300  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining questions AMD cards Help Please. on: September 09, 2017, 08:39:52 PM
Do you mean HD 7850 on those "DD" cards?

If so, that's a reasonable to GOOD speed for those - I was only seeing 12-14 ballpark out of my HD 7870 cards when I was mining on those WITH a well-optimised overclock.

If they are 7950 cards, it does seem a bit low - try setting the memory clocks to either 1250 or 1450-1500, and you probably DON'T need to overclock your core much.
