Speculators can earn on falling asset as much as on growing, unlike investors that have only faith remaining (if ever) in such a case. Don't have illusions on this account. All speculators need is volatility...
Easier said than done. Almost everyone who have ever tried to short bitcoin were wiped out since they can never predict how high the market will go before a crash Simple question, how do you know?

But moreover, the problem with a gold-backed dollar is the dollar part, not the gold part. More specifically, the fractional-reserve central banking system, and especially the Federal Reserve and its mismanagement of that system. And in terms of the period of US history preceding World War II, don't forget the policies of FDR, which "prolonged and deepened" the Great Depression. ( https://mises.org/freemarket_detail.aspx?control=258) I can give you a bunch of other problems, but here are relevant only those pertaining to deflationary nature of bitcoin and possible economic outcomes and consequences thereby...

No one is arguing deflationary nature of bitcoin here, since it is exactly the cause of those pre-fiat era crises (i.e. deflationary nature of a gold backed dollar)
Well, the amount of BTC in the world will continue to expand probably for at least another century. So I'd say it's incorrect to simply say that bitcoin is deflationary. The origins of terms inflationary and deflationary are quite different. Deflationary in respect to currency means that it is appreciating in value (i.e. gathering purchasing power), since the word deflation (unlike inflation for which at least two different meanings coexist) means first and before all decline in prices...

Payments are automatically sent every Monday to all accounts with a balance greater than 0.00005460 BTC

Desik, I only read the first 3 pages of this thread so forgive me if im repeating something somebody else already said. Bitcoin is deflationary not inflationary. It can be denominated into tiny units called satoshis. Google it. It is similar to gold in that it is hard to produce and is(soon to be) universally accepted store of value. This is where the similarities end. Your historical arguments about various crises are invalid as bitcoin is all about bypassing the global financial system that has been responsible for (more or less) EVERY financial crisis in the 100-120 years. Dont forget that thre Rothschild family dictates the price of gold. Im not sure whether they also control bitcoin.
Deflationary nature of a currency is a big no-no for a modern expanding economy. Bitcoin can't be bypassing the global financial system if it should become a major currency. And you have to clearly distinguish between the economical crises of the later 19th century - first half of the the 20th century and all the subsequent crises... No one is arguing deflationary nature of bitcoin here, since it is exactly the cause of those pre-fiat era crises (i.e. deflationary nature of a gold backed dollar)

Hey, guys! Now Linux seems to be on par with Windows according to this vote (indeed it is by far superior strictly on technical terms only, see top500.org for a proof). Are bitcoiners pro-linux really?

Volatility is not a problem for investors speculators, they can always adjust the exposure to reduce the volatility, but it will be a problem for daily spending
Some small change was absolutely asking for... Investors have faith, speculators don't That faith coming from the understanding of most of the bitcoin related technical aspects, and more importantly, understanding of the fatal flaw in today's fiat money system, that will take many years of independent research For example, bitcoin keeps dropping towards $100 for 12 months, then all the speculators will run away, but investors will buy big Speculators can earn on falling asset as much as on growing, unlike investors that have only faith remaining (if ever) in such a case. Don't have illusions on this account. All speculators need is volatility...

As a side note, there is no death penalty in Russia since 1996 when was established a moratorium in application of the death penalty (and thereby no death sentences). So the last person to be executed in Russia was some serial killer who was shot on 2 August 1996, and this moratorium is still in effect...
Right. Now they just kill without courts or sentences. It is all just accidents caused by poisons or radiation. Yeah, USA openly killed Bin Laden without trial and everyone says they rendered him true justice, lol What deaths caused by such accidents (poisons or radiation) do you know of for sure? If they were doing this routinely as follows from your post (instead of sentencing and punishing), why didn't none ever get caught red-handed with irrefutable evidence? I heard about a hacker, Jack Barnaby, 35, suddenly found dead in San Francisco last summer. Was he killed by evil Russians too?

I think it would be greater if Stunna will choose xx(x?) people to write and give them a little bit better payment that it was before.
Why would he do that? Maybe, to stop spammers from abusing his service? I like this idea too, since it would give prevalence to quality before quantity... Isn't it pretty easy catch spammers already? I don't think so, it still requires effort, and you never know in advance who will be spamming and discrediting the service. After you have accumulated some base of users, you can choose between them (provided you are short of money and the campaign has become too expensive indeed)... Are you afraid to be brushed off?

Desik: Your premise is wrong, 'coins from the US mint' are legal tender YES because of whats stamped on them, but the METAL IS NOT legal tender. The only thing that is legal tender is the DOLLAR and it is irrelevant as to What material the mint puts that stamp onto, they could stamp a lead disk with a million dollar mark and that would be a million dollars and you could pay a million dollar tax bill with it. The printing presses put lots of zero's on pieces of paper no (other then Rand Paul) thinks that paper is legal tender, it's only the stamp that has legal status.
What you can NOT do is give the IRS a lump of unstamped gold as payment in taxes, you can only give them something that bears the stamp of the mint and they will demand X amount of dollar stamps regardless of what they are on. Sure if you wanted to give them valuable metal with stamps on it then they will accept them so long as you have X total stamps, the value of the metal will be ignored because your debt is in stamps not metal.
It is not my premise, it is your premise that you out of a clear sky attributed to me. Where did you get this idea really? I'm curious since I never said anything of the kind which could in the slightest degree assume that gold bullion as such would be legal tender... I don't know what made you come to such a conclusion. Please show me that piece of text... Besides that, I specifically pointed out that even " foreign gold or silver coins are not legal tender for debts"

You live in sheltered world if you believe that is what requires death sentence. From what I hear, Texas is very happy to make death sentences with little review, and are proud of it. That may be true in Florida, too. America is very quick to give death sentence without jury to those living in middle east and north Africa. China and other totalitarian countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran are much happy to give death sentences without trials, and even democratic Russia is known to give death sentences that are not just. Also, supposedly 90% of accusations end up never going into court, and get settled because of threats of much harsher sentences. Even if not death sentence, many people in current "better" system have many years of their life stolen from them as they spend it in jails. I do not think it is very difficult to come up with better system, and at worst, we will just just as horrible system as we have now.
