2301  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Best site for cloud mining? on: June 06, 2019, 08:01:26 PM
For a start read 1st time/small miner guide here
For hardware read List of current competitive hardware here
Also be aware that not all crypto coins are Bitcoin. Only Bitcoin is Bitcoin, this area of the Forum is only for Bitcoin. All other coins are called alts and have their own areas here
2302  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Best site for cloud mining? on: June 06, 2019, 05:22:18 PM
NO cloudmining site is good because the vast majority, if not all, of them end up being Ponzi schemes. The only trustworthy way to mine is with your own hardware.
2303  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Problem with Avalon 921 Temp and Fan on: June 06, 2019, 03:23:48 PM
As Steamtyme said, post the API log here so we can see what is happening. Use the code button # to do it. Usually we only need from the top of the log to just after the block of text for the AUC stats.

Make sure that both the console and miner firmware are the same version (date) as the 921's can be picky about that.
As for the controller, it must NOT be a RasPi 3+, only the 1B, 2B and 3B are supported.
2304  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Question About A Kernel Log on: June 05, 2019, 05:19:44 PM
Let's start with telling us what kind of miner is it. They are all very different ya know....
Made by Bitmain? Canaan? Other? What model?
2305  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S7 hash board rebooting constantly Edit: Found something else interesting on: June 04, 2019, 04:20:17 PM
Cool Gave ya Merit for keeping us informed as to what you found.
2306  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Miner Avalon 741 Problem on: June 03, 2019, 01:05:30 PM
....
Take a look at the very top of this area
You will see the Avalon's Troubleshooting/repair thread.
Use it... Oh, and while the system log can be useful what we really need to see is the CGMiner API log. That will tell us the actual status of the power in and miner hardware.
2307  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Pangolin Whatsminer M10 - 33TH at 2145W on: May 31, 2019, 02:48:52 AM
Well that was fun.... Finally got around to changing pool #3 from Kano's de node to the Oregon one on the 3 M10 miners at home. Of course that meant restarting them and -- miner #2 did not want to fire up. Constantly reported 0 chips on slot-1 (they go from 0 to 2) which oddly enough is physically the board  on the left side and not the center board...

Looking into the air inlet end of the miner and going by the green LED's, the boards would fire up: middle on then off, right on then off, then both middle and right on and stay on - so far so good -- then the left board would come on for less than a second and take the other 2 down. Endlessly repeat.....

Fearing the dreaded bridge board problem I unplugged it, removed the 2 screws that hold the board in place for shipping (is a snug fit even w/o the screws) and reseated the board: Success! It lives again!

Bloody hell I hate it when a board that probably cost 50-cents to make takes down a whole machine...  Angry
2308  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Extracting profit from mining heat as thick slab wood kiln on: May 30, 2019, 01:34:26 PM
As long as the miners are happy with their temps that should work just fine. Same goes for using the waste heat to keep a bakery proofing room warm.
2309  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Mining Farm with free power Canada on: May 30, 2019, 01:44:27 AM
We are not trying to scam anyone , we are using wasted gas to run generators , and we are looking for people that have miners to join us and share the profits
The following is NOT to be taken as ANY sort of endorsement!
Ok, fair enough. Using normally flared remote field gas to power mining pods is a real biz with a few folks in that space. I take it you are looking to expand operations or fill capacity (and generate revenue from the waste gas producer)?

For those wondering how that works: Many operations (oil production for one) produce natural gas or methane as a byproduct and if it cannot be economicaly cleaned up and piped to be sold elsewhere it has to be flared (burned). Carbon emission environmental regs fine/charge the gas producer for flaring. However, if you are able to use that gas on-site it is a different story: Yes there are still carbon emission costs but those are far lower than flaring costs.

That lose-it-and-pay-a-lot by flaring vs use-it-and-pay-far-less means there is a window where money can be made. If using the gas can directly generate additional revenue, even better. Sooo... if main powerlines are too far away to directly generate & sell electricity to a power company then why not use it to power energy-dense mining pods. The needed telecom links are already in-place to monitor the field operations so that is taken care of.

So then I assume that the 250kw cap is currently unused capacity from the prime power genset? re: the "Free power" bit, if the maint & running cost of the generator(s) is already paid for by other operations that would make sense. That just leaves the question of what is your fee for hosting?

And um, of course the trust issue of sending our miners off to the remote oilfields & tar-sands of Canada...
2310  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A1041 Review on: May 30, 2019, 01:22:50 AM
Ja though of course Kano has been seeing them on his pool for over a month as that's where Canaan does the burn-in testing. Assuming that 109-118F is chip temp gotta say I'm impressed. What's the measured power draw?

Can't wait for the one I ordered a couple weeks ago to ship in July Cheesy
2311  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A1041 Review on: May 29, 2019, 07:19:55 PM
So I take it that for folks who ordered early the A10's have started shipping?
And it's running at 109F per yer sshot? Woof!

These are the original compacs with one s7 chip.

Um perhaps sidehack needs to verify but I do believe the original Compac uses the BM1384 chip which is from the s5's. (I sent him a pallet of s5's to strip for them).
2313  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20 is announced and available for pre-order on: May 28, 2019, 01:52:00 PM
thanks for the reply... do you think microbt.com is a trusted website for the manufacturer?
Yes. The exact address is https://www.microbt.com/

And if you include altcoins, then it means that this should be listed at the altcoins section.
Ja. Since this area is for BTC only, ANY coverage of altcoin gear will get the post deleted or moved to the altcoin area.

Scaary - you only use the discord invite link ONCE, just to register there. It is an INVITE link - not general access.
Once registered just copy the address from the browser address bar and use THAT to get in.
2316  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9 Chip Repair Questions on: May 23, 2019, 03:09:25 PM
Unless specifically instructed otherwise, resistance measurements are ALWAYS done with power off.

That said, depending on make & model multimeters can apply different voltages when doing resistance checks and that will affect what you see: if they use a very low voltage then semiconductor junctions may not turn on vs a meter that uses a higher voltage. That will definitely change your readings.

Best thing to do is take a set of measurements on a known good board and use those readings as your reference.

Actually, the LAN port is also on the USB bus so aside from the inherent flakeyness of WiFi causing dropped data & requiring re-transmission the amount of resources used should be the same.
2318  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: ASC mining parameter on: May 21, 2019, 07:09:00 PM
a. Wrong area. use the mining software area for queries like this...
b. The main developer -ck who wrote cgminer (along with others folks) left out the 'I' in ASIC which stands for Application-Specific Integrated Circuit.
c. -ck has a cgminer thread in the software section but in his infinite wisdom has locked it because he-just-does-not-care about it anymore.
2319  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Reputable ASIC venders in USA? on: May 21, 2019, 05:56:36 PM
Screw most eBay/Amazon vendors as several are scammers or selling used gear.
For new miners I prefer to use Blokforge.com who carry miners from Canaan and Bitmain.

Roll Eyes Here we go again for the umpteenth time here....
The cooling will come from what? The freezers cooling loop?
If so FORGET IT! Cooling of any sort involves moving heat from point-A to point-B. To do so requires the cooling loop to be able to move more BTU's to point-B than the heat source (point-A) produces. The cooling loop in a refrigerator/freezer is not designed to move large amounts of heat - they remove relatively SMALL amounts of heat from the contents over a long time which are in a very well insulated casing. It is only because the food is not continuing to generate more heat that the temp goes down over time.

Quick test for you: put a couple hundred watt heater in your freezer and watch just how fast the temp rises...
Just search for immersion cooling to pull up the numerous existing threads on this.
