2301  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon 741s on: June 25, 2019, 02:57:05 PM
No matter what you do the A741's will not achieve much better efficiency at reasonable speed. The chips just cannot do it.
That said, the Avalons are high tweakable to get better eff by playing with the voltage, voltage-offset, and freq. Just don't expect any major gains. Folks have already played with those so search for the main Avalon 741 review thread in the Forum to see what they did.

For the most part these days the A7's are really only good as heaters during cold months...

The only reason the s9's are running better today is because BM originally crippled them via their firmware whereas Canaan has always shipped miners with the best tested firmware at the time.
2302  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A1041 Review on: June 24, 2019, 01:01:28 PM
Ja, it's pretty crazy right now. Glad I ordered my A10 through Blokforge in time for the early July delivery. Speaking of which, any better info on when the early July batch will be shipping?
2303  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: New Bitmain S9 Firmware Preliminary Testing With Data on: June 19, 2019, 01:47:14 PM
Great data, now I need to run the numbers and figure out what SSH port it/does and if I need that Wink

Um missed the part where he says

Also note that this F/W disables SSH.

...
is there anything to help cool that particular part?
Well you can always mount the fans on some standoffs that are an inch or so long (and close up the gap between casing and fans of course).
That will give the airflow a chance to fill in the dead spot and also probably dramatically reduce the siren effect by moving the fan blades away from the heat sink fins.
2305  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Electrical wiring for mining on: June 18, 2019, 08:35:43 PM
Im definitely seeking consultation on here.  I have ten years experience in the contracting files that. Includes basic to intermediate electrical wiring. I’ve run the riser to the panel myself. I’ve installed the breakers myself and I’ve run the home runs myself.  I really just need some recommendations as to which double pole 20 amp outlets to buy or how to wire these 110v outlets. Thanks so much
Which 220v 20a outlets to buy depends on what your country uses:  schuko? NEMA? Other? Ref this list here As for wire gauge, again all depends on what the standards are for your country.

As for 'consultation' here in the Forum: Because of liability concerns NO professional electrician or EE should be giving advice to the general public in a Public forum because if something goes wrong its OUR ass that can be on the line and facing a lawsuit. Aside from that, advice from an unknown non-professional must only be treated as their opinion which means it is not necessarily correct. Their opinion might not be wrong, just be sure to check the information against several sources to see if it jives.
2306  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How often do you lose a hash board on your S9 ? on: June 18, 2019, 01:19:45 PM
Calling it "not uncommon to lose a hash board" is being too kind. I got fed up with losing s9 boards on an almost regular basis and a few years ago moved to Avalons because of BM's crappy designs. To date just 1 A7 bad hash board and zero A8 failures

That said, now that you mention it, yes: Was always just 1 board and generally the center one.
2307  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Electrical wiring for mining on: June 18, 2019, 01:03:45 PM
DO NOT DO THAT!
Yes it *can* be done however it is an extremely bad and unsafe idea.
If you want 220v then hire an electrician or take a small elect course at your local home improvement center and do it right.
2308  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining: Adding Solar Home Now, as "Mining Hedge" for future 2020 miners? on: June 17, 2019, 06:13:09 PM
Even though from a logic point of view it makes much more sense $$ wise because the infrastructure is already in place and it is a win/win. You are simply running the meter backward frame of mind.

It's almost but not quite that simple: The problem Utilities run into is that the monitoring and control part of their infra was designed assuming power is going out to the end-user. Yes local loads around the folks using solar etc. to feed back into the grid can and will absorb much of the 'wrong-way' power flow but -- there is a limit to how much can be fed in because way-back when the control infra was built they only cared about sending to customers. Putting several out of their control power sources that are each independently trying to regulate their power output into the grid raises hell with it if the local loads can't use at least a large part of it.
2309  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain introduces the Antminer S17 Pro, Antminer S17, and the Antminer T17 on: June 17, 2019, 03:57:21 PM
AFAIK in the interest of squeezing all the efficiency possible from a miner these are all using the PSU to regulate the Vcore applied to the chip strings. Losing the on-board regulators saves 5% power loss or more per-board. That means the only way to replace the PSU yourself is by using an exact replacement that has the connections needed for remote voltage control or sensing.

So is an integrated PSU a good idea? With everyone screaming for higher THs/J, yes.

@soymoji
Did you also try a different USB cable? Cables that are for charging only are more common than one would think...  It needs one that is not just for power but must also support data transfer, sometimes called a 'sync' cable.
2311  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: fpga mining on: June 14, 2019, 08:56:43 PM
Ya, belongs in altcoins area because where you posted is for BTC mining only and the difficulty of mining BTC means that FPGA's were left in the dust around very early 2013.
2312  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Troubleshooting and repair guide for AvalonMiner models 721, 741, 761, 821 & 841 on: June 14, 2019, 05:20:31 PM
This Pi is running 7 miners, 4 on 1 AUC and 3 on a 2nd one.

1st AUC reported shows:

Code:
CRC[0 0 0 0],MM Count=4,Smart Speed=1,Connecter=AUC,AUC VER=AUC-20151208,AUC I2C Speed=400000,AUC I2C XDelay=19200,AUC Sensor=11129,AUC Temperature=43.21,Connection Overloaded=false,Voltage Level Offset=-1,Nonce Mask=24,USB Pipe=0,USB Delay=r0 0.000000 w0 0.000000,USB tmo=0 0|STATS=1,ID=AV81,Elapsed=16062,Calls=0,Wait=0.000000,Max=0.000000,Min=99999999.000000,MM ID1=Ver[8411812-d33ea90]

and the 2nd AUC reports:

Yours should read about the same regarding AUC IC2 Speed, temps, Connection Overloaded, etc.

If you mean using powered hub to power the RasPi it is generally NOT an option unless it specifically says it will supply at least 2.5A per-port. (Canaan calls for at least 2.5A rating).

If you mean using a hub between the Pi and the AUC's --no one has EVER needed to do that. The issue with running more than 3 miners per AUC is not related to power, it is related to longer communications times needed to talk to all the miners in the chain. That increased time leads to higher number of rejected shares.

For full info on all Avalon miners use the CGMiner API log. There is a ton of data there on the AUC's including data speed, voltages, temp, etc.
2314  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: A921 and A851 best underclock configs to decrease temp on: June 13, 2019, 03:57:13 PM
@ OP
You might want to take a look at the tests I did a few months ago on the A921 here
2315  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Troubleshooting and repair guide for AvalonMiner models 721, 741, 761, 821 & 841 on: June 07, 2019, 08:08:34 PM
DO make sure that the USB A-micro cable between the controller and AUC is good for data and is not just a charging cable. Charging cables do not support data transfer (also called 'sync'). Using the wrong cable is a fairly common issue...
2316  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: what is child connection on cgminer on: June 07, 2019, 03:43:34 PM
Do those 192.168.2.xxx addresses belong to other computers that are on your network that may be trying to make child connections? If those are your computers then those are what need to be checked for viruses because to me it looks like an outside device is trying to connect with the miner - not the miner initiating the connections.
2317  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Best site for cloud mining? on: June 06, 2019, 08:01:26 PM
For a start read 1st time/small miner guide here
For hardware read List of current competitive hardware here
Also be aware that not all crypto coins are Bitcoin. Only Bitcoin is Bitcoin, this area of the Forum is only for Bitcoin. All other coins are called alts and have their own areas here
2318  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Best site for cloud mining? on: June 06, 2019, 05:22:18 PM
NO cloudmining site is good because the vast majority, if not all, of them end up being Ponzi schemes. The only trustworthy way to mine is with your own hardware.
2319  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Problem with Avalon 921 Temp and Fan on: June 06, 2019, 03:23:48 PM
As Steamtyme said, post the API log here so we can see what is happening. Use the code button # to do it. Usually we only need from the top of the log to just after the block of text for the AUC stats.

Make sure that both the console and miner firmware are the same version (date) as the 921's can be picky about that.
As for the controller, it must NOT be a RasPi 3+, only the 1B, 2B and 3B are supported.
2320  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Question About A Kernel Log on: June 05, 2019, 05:19:44 PM
Let's start with telling us what kind of miner is it. They are all very different ya know....
Made by Bitmain? Canaan? Other? What model?
