Looks like it's going to 0.04 - 0.05. Wow...

I propose we do something constructive. We're a bunch of bright guys. Let's put our heads together for a change.

cheers m8.. on polo, pre pump ( before dec 18)for 3months it was around 5k..so how many is it from then?

Where are you getting 5k from? It was about 100k when it launched Oct 5th on Polo then dipped as low as 16737 sat in November. It never went lower than that.
2305  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 10, 2016, 03:49:15 AM
if i done my maths right, FCT has pumped 180x in 3months...is that right..it cant be...is it Huh Cheesy  dec 2105 it was 5k sat going upto almost  900k sat in march

It was around 20k sat before the pump in Dec and peaked at ~870K sat on Polo, so about 43x.

We've seen 10 on an alt before and much higher even. Albeit rarely with this much corporate buzz. I'm bullish, but a proper rally is in order to settle people long-term. You can see the uncertainty in weaker hands with the current mini-swing.

Hmm, the value of the individual unit means very little - same with shares. I have a hard time explaining this to people who think that penny shares are "cheap" and shares that are ten pounds are "expensive".

BTC can still survive as a storage of wealth in my opinion, but it's very clear for me that Hearn's words were deeply prophetic and full of truth. It failed, it had its time but it never got adopted massively.

His words carry about as much weight as a dead donkey for me, but then I guess shallower minds have been canonised.

Just broke 266... looking bullish.

Bitcoin solved a problem - a need for de-centralized exchange of value.

What problem does Ethereum solve?

As far as decentralized distributed computing goes, there really isn't a need like there was with value.

The purpose it seems to be serving now is speculation and not function. Bitcoin is currently used to exchange value, is ethereum being used for distributed computing? By whom? Will it ever be used for that?

The only way it ever would be used for distributed computing is if it is so cheap that it is worthless for speculation because non-decentralized distributed computing power (e.g. Amazon cloud) is cheap.

I feel sorry for the speculators, I don't see how Ethereum ever can do what it is suppose to do if it gains value. It has to lose value or it is useless.

The point isn't the cost - it's very, very expensive. The point is that its computation is as secure as the blockchain. Demand for this resource is debatable, but certainly exists. At the moment price is clearly decoupled from Gas consumption though: https://stats.etherchain.org/dashboard/db/gas?theme=light

For some reason, that reminded of Magic' Tux.  Wink

We do not know where is the limit now. I thought it will top at 0.01, but I was totally wrong. The price is too high.
There is no upper limit in a bubble, it can go up until a tulip is worth a big house.
That being said, I have no clue whether or not this will bubble and pop or get high and stay. I do know it came up very fast, so common sense says it can also disappear very fast.

What you have to remember is that tulips back then were expensive to begin with, as they had only recently been introduced into Europe, and were both scarce and sought after. The bulbs that fetched the highest price were also the rarest type (that were actually infected by a virus). The raw price data from this time is also very sketchy. Mackay's account about people selling their entire estates for a single bulb is mostly a fiction based on propaganda.

Just been over on Poloniex and there's a MASSIVE buy wall ETH/BTC hitting Ethereum tonight. Buy while your still can.

This has been said before, but the orderbook by itself is not a reliable indication of price direction. The bid side was over 20K BTC just yesterday yet price went down. Also, did anyone bother to look at the orderbook during Bitcoin's bubbles? Maybe they should...

Well, there's the retrace! 27% drop. Now it's the wait and see game - do we survive or do we go down further. I'm open to both possibilities, but I know which way I'm betting personally Wink

Although we both have been following this for some weeks now and so far I can say my predictions were correct, I must agree with you that right now I'm feeling scared since we are entering the "paradigm" shift of every bubble if this is what it is. The recent spike is just too sharp to be sustainable even by crypo standards. I mean for me it's all good and extremely profitable but we are entering unknown territories.

I have like 75% of my portfolio in Ethereum and the rest in BTC but I will be willing to buy more ETH as soon as I see a drop, it just doesn't seem to stop, I think I've missed the under 10 USD window...

Credit where it's due - you were right about it going above $10. I thought 0.0178 was the top and I was wrong.

0.03 hit Shocked

By my estimates, we should be looking for a pullback within the next day at some point above 0.032. I'd expect 25%+.

Results from that will be critical in determining Eth's direction, for no other alt has ever survived a retrace above a billion mcap. Will Eth be the first to conquer that mountain? Interesting times.
2313  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH price soaring. Are you going to move some BTC into ETH? on: March 03, 2016, 04:05:59 AM
That's fair enough, but in the next days it will continue to rise until Homestead is released, then some time after that there will be a huge drop but I think I'll be on the safe side since I got in at 90s or so and after more than a week I think we'll be already seeing 0.03 and more.

The problem with your strategy is that taking into consideration the way this is unfolding, there will be huge drops but I think support may be much more expensive than the current value.

Well, good luck to you. This thing is showing incredible strength at the moment, I'll give you that. Hopefully I won't be looking at my BTC wallet and crying in the near future Cheesy
2314  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH price soaring. Are you going to move some BTC into ETH? on: March 02, 2016, 09:54:28 PM
That would be because of the purpose of the bet: "Ethereum to top $1 billion market cap before 2017"

I've bet no. Grin

Better get some prayer beads, because this isn't looking good for you  Tongue

Don't worry, I'm old enough to not be too naive, this can all crash down in the next days or weeks but I already made some money if that was the case. It can also go $30 before it drops too. For me it could be a bubble but it's based on real interest. There's true interest in Ethereum and anyone can see that if you research it. How much exactly is it worth? Well we don't know, we don't even know if Bitcoin is cheap right now or it is in some sort of bubble already.

Absolute worth isn't important to me, only relative. I look for momentum. Bitcoin found support around 200 for nearly a year, so 430 isn't really a bubble at the moment from that perspective. I'll buy ETH when I see capitulation or strong, long-term support as I do with all coins.
2316  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH price soaring. Are you going to move some BTC into ETH? on: March 01, 2016, 07:27:29 PM
I'm still here, remember me? I got in and hold below 90k...while many said it was the worst bubble ever and were FUDing all they could. There's still time to get in, ETH hasn't even hit mainstream news yet. It will hit 0.02 sooner or later and it will continue to go up (not without some bumps in the road of course as we already saw). Even BTC hasn't hit mainstream for that matter but that's another story.

Oh, this is a bubble, and it'll come crashing back down eventually just like Bitcoin's frothy adventures. But for now, enjoy the sun of the highlands.
2317  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH price soaring. Are you going to move some BTC into ETH? on: March 01, 2016, 05:39:56 PM
I must say, I'm impressed. Assuming this isn't a double-top, this could get crazy now.

They [white guys] developed the scientific method.  Newton's physics. Adam Smith's economics, chemistry, medicine, engineering.

And let's not forget a knack for taking all the credit.

We take credit, but not all credit. We deserve no credit?

The Orient made contributions to these fields too - such as Avicenna and Ibn al-Haytham - but recognition of their influence or achievements is often lacking.

This does not diminish the contributions that we did make though (and by we, I mean you and I ;P).

Bitcoin is still but an infant.

It's still a fucking sperm, man. Now those other dudes are coming behind it, too... better reach that egg soon.

lol, I'm not sure if this comes from the molecular biology aspect or is a reference to one of my posts, but well put. Cheesy
