I'm still gonna get Swiftec pumps, one at first to try them and compare but I'll overbuy SysCooling kits.

It's true, even $60 is a good bargain for tricore rads in the US.

Plus I can always put the SysCooling pumps for sale on eBay auctions, it might cover a part of the cost of the Swiftec ones

Real tricky question...

You should specify, either celcius or farenheit, this is a 32 degree difference.

Think that -1 farenheit is about -30 celcius.

In both cases, it's not a good idea for a C1.

If the room could have a steady -1 (Celcius) then you would only need a small fan, considering -1 consistent.

Considering the miner is also alone, -1 celcius is not that cold.

I have an S4 in a open window bathroom in the middle of the winter the S4 got down to 33 celcius last night...

If it's -1 Farenheit then the miner is more at risk of actually freezing and lot worst problems.

Electronics naturally give off heat, the absence of cooling system in such cold weather will create a lot of condensation.

Cold environment turns to "computer sweat", then to sweat beads, real quick.

Ever seen rust on mobo's?  That's computer sweat settling in.

Water and electricity don't match; you'd need a dehumidifier running 24/7 but then you lose your cold temp since a dehu is a small heater.

Once this computer sweat is materialized and melted by the chip heat, turns to water.

This makes it at high risk of fire because water can cause serious short circuits.

Either way, you'd be better off with S3's since the C1 is designed to be liquid cooled, not cold temperature cooled.

What you want to add technically fan cooling to a liquid cooled system, both are 1000000% different built from one another.

Electronics are made to be ran hot to a certain degree but frost kills them.

Makes absolutely no sense to buy an already cool miner, with a liquid cooling system and put them in sub zero temperatures.

Overkilling on cold will break your fragile electronic components; the key to a cool mine is ventilation, not cooling.

PS: The C1 is not a beginner's machine, it requires a great deal of attention and know how to set up properly.  Sounds like you'd be better off with S4's since those machines would benefit from -1 temps at any rate.

Overpowering the miner is the last way to squeeze more coin out of those S1's.

Put on a PSU capable of more than 2x what is required.

The miner needs a 400Watt PSU, give it a minimum 800Watt PSU.

I only use 650W's on my S1's now and all of them are always over 210GH/s compared to 195GH/s with the ones on 550's.

Noticed when I put on a spare 750W non-modular PSU to an S1 and that one miner always had larger share yield numbers than the others.

If you already OC'ed via frequency, overpower is the last logical option.

Anything going wrong during a firmware update (why???) results 99% of the time in hardware damage, you need a new card.

Usually, Bitmain will tell you it's the LAST thing ANYONE should do, even pros don't get it right all the time.

I never did any firmware updates and never missed a second of mining; I like to plan a lot.

It's like losing power during a .NET install/update or if something goes bad during a system restore.

Your hashboards still work, probably... but you will need a new ethernet control card, which makes no sense to buy anything for S1's anymore.

Those suckers are around $50 a pop, you can get a new S1 at that price.

I was looking at a Swiftec pump kit, to at least, serve as replacement; it's slightly faster but with nearly twice the recommended head pressure.

Plus I read Swiftec makes a much more reliable pump and has better service than SysCooling.

Or I could even use the SysCooling pumps as backups, we'll see what happens if I bite the bullet and invest in a reliable pump.

If worse comes to worse, I can always put on stronger fans but those 28Nm from Bitmain are really cool to begin with.

At least now with your help (and others of course), I know where I'm heading and got a good plan of attack.

PS: I ordered a few bottles of IceDragon coolant... yes, it's shockingly expensive but the makers also claims you never need to replace it under normal use.  Every time I invested in NanoTech products, the purchase exceeded my expectations; we'll see what happens, I'll update once I got a few C1's up and running.  Right now, just re-writing my mining plan for adaptation to water cooling.

I have miners like that and been running for about 6 months now, just leave them be.

Many will say to do a firmware update but there are more horror stories than success stories with updating Bitmain S3 firmware.

I never did firmware updates, never overclocked and never had problems.  

My advice is, don't fuss about it, you'll just make a minor problem a major one.  No pun intended...

PS: If you take off the cover and inspect the miner, you may notice on the top left, some of the C19 capacitors are missing.  This was to cutoff the annoying beeper that never annoyed me once, completely.  Circa Batch 3-5.  My B1's have no issues but beeps on startup, on HW errors and block finds.  My guess is it drove a lot of miners insane and the fast solution off-the-assembly line was to cut off capacitors. However, that threw off the fan speeds and unit temps on the interface.

I prefer my B1's over any other S3 I have.

Bad customers prey on your good-businessman nature and take advantage of that fact to get free stuff.

I wouldn't take it back especially if I stated that I didn't take return.

Even CC companies cannot go beyond another company's advertised return policies; just like they have to comply to return policies.

Sellers cannot sell burnt miners either, we know but this would be debatable and CC companies know of conniving measures to get free stuff.

If you offer returns, well, you're asking to give free stuff... sorry to say but you pay to learn.

Take it as a life lesson, you got screwed, just like many other have in this market.

Most people are honest but lots of crooks out there; the one crook will take your profit from the other 100.

You might not like the answer but might as well bite the bullet and get a new ethernet control card.

Just contact Bitmain and ask for an out of warranty ECB replacement; they'll send you a payment notice via email for the ecb.

This should solve your problem completely, you'd get a new one with the latest firmware on it.

They aren't cheap and no one should tamper with those; flashing firmware, if not done right will outright kill your hardware.

Yeah....... your lucky your HDD don't get fried or suffer from an unrecoverable error.

Control card for an S3 is tough made but will set you back around $100...

If not, it's an RMA, I'd take the risk in getting just a control card instead of filling for an RMA...

An out of warranty card is maybe a 2-3 week ordeal at worst, compared to 3-8 months for an RMA... depending on holidays and how lucky you are.

Is the cooling kit stated in OP a step above from what Bitmain offers?

I keep reading horror stories of epic proportions, about those SysCooling pumps failing left right and center.

Definitely something I want to avoid, being the low-quality hatin' bastard that I am.

There's a limit though...

I priced a custom kit and went up to near U$300... not really feasible on a per unit basis.

If I could get away with buying the cheaper kit, which is economical and then buying a more expensive pump, I'm still a step ahead.

However, I need to get a reasonable expectation of the quality of the rad/fan, fittings and brackets of said "upgraded cooling kit"...

Obviously I don't want to spend time buying and replacing pumps and/or rads; so, advice is greatly appreciated.

Plus, when BitmainTech says 3.0M Head Pressure and 450L/h flow, how far above that can I go?

Surely there's an overkill at some point, I'd like to know what the OK point is

You see, I'm good with both computers and cars but cooling systems, I always avoided... gives me headaches.

Would a 600L/h pump work on a system designed for 450L/h?

I like the idea of more flow but don't know if the system itself would take it... again, lack of knowledge on the matter.

Got lots of smaller 650W PSU's made by Corsair and SeaSonic, a high quality 1000W is a C$200 bill I don't really want right now.

Bitmain customer service is just pathetic, took like a month to get a new S1 ECB (When they were in their prime)

I also resell my miners once they become viably non-feasible and not having all original parts cuts down the value drastically.

Even the S3 B1-B2's get a lesser value because of the un-muteable beeper, not even worth reselling; they'll make their way in my museum lol

I want the wire so I don't lose to much of a value, it costs me less to pay $35 for a new wire than lose $100 on the item's total value itself.

A spare's just a spare, it's not an original, those cost money, was my fuck up, I'll pay the price for my fuck up.

Most miners who buy used equipment want all original parts, even if replaced at some point.

Re-selling is a way to pay for my power and re-investments so I want to keep a good reputation and even one wire can screw everything up.

In a world where $500 is a good chunk of change for most, quality used goods = $$$ & repeat buyers and free WOM advertising.
