2321  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Is The Media's Effect To Bitcoin? on: March 13, 2015, 12:50:38 PM

Media can easily build someone, and ironically they also easily can destroy you.

You mean easily destroy like this?

Thank God Andreas setup a fundraiser for Dorian for the damage Newsweek did to this poor guy's rep.  One of the largest media blunders in recent memory...
2322  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / For all the China ban Bitcoin over the years, reality couldn't be more different on: March 12, 2015, 08:49:31 PM
Since Bitcoin's been in existence, there's always been a love/hate relationship when it comes to China.  China has all the mining farms and manufacturers, PBOC trying to halt all exchange withdrawals.  China has tons of ATMs and OKCoin, Huobi, and BTCCHina exchanges, PBOC issues shut down of all banks linked to Bitcoin exchanges.

For all this threats and banter and general FUD, this is the real cold hard facts and "truth" about China.

About 80% of all Bitcoin exchange value is driven by Chinese Yuan:

http://www.cnbc.com/id/102497909

China/PBOC isn't trying to ban it, they're trying to "regulate" it somehow...

So although Bitcoin isn't going to replace the Yuan or Renminbi anytime soon, they sure like to trade the F#ck out of it...

2323  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: why aliexpress don't use bitcoin ? on: March 12, 2015, 07:41:59 PM
It's actually pretty funny the Chinese government wants people to think that Bitcoin will be continually be banned, when in reality China "controls" Bitcoin:

https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/china-now-controls-bitcoin-thats-just-beginning/

For all the propaganda speak, politics, regulatory hurdles, etc 80% of all Bitcoin exchange volume in the world is traded by the Chinese Yuan...think about that.
2324  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Once again, what about the scalability issue? on: March 12, 2015, 06:59:01 PM
Bitcoin blockchain size is 30 GB. I've heard that Bitcoin 0.10 got improved blockchain downloading. How many times is it faster now?
I had to download the entire blockchain again because as I updated from 9.3 or whatever the previous version was it got corrupted. It was much faster, much many connected peers and the connections happened quicker. Last time it took me like 2 days, this time I managed to do it in 6 hours or something along the lines.
are you sure about that?
I just had to index the whole thing again, not download it, which took less than a day on my PC

I had a similar issue to manselr, I had 0.9.1 I believe.  Did the install correctly, it launched, then there was some sort of error message and the only option pretty much to continue is download the entire blockchain from block 0.

Since I don't have an SSD Hard drive on my laptop, it took me like 12-14 hours total to redownload.  Better than the 2-3 days typical time, but still a long time overall.
2325  Economy / Speculation / Re: And this, ladies and gentlebears, is why we like the WSJ on: March 12, 2015, 06:53:56 PM
I'm very bullish on the Wall Street Journal, they actually put Bitcoin on the front page of their print newspaper!!!

CNBC TV is on all the time at my office, and whenever they have one of their correspondants speak about Bitcoin, I feel myself getting dumber and dumber...
2326  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN 101 on: March 12, 2015, 06:43:38 PM
ChuckBuck, nice one, but what does "universal" mean and why it did went down in 2014 compared to 2013??

Judging by context, N/A or miscellaneous or niche or any other smaller category related to the Bitcoin ecosystem.
2327  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN 101 on: March 12, 2015, 02:51:34 PM
Wow OP, you couldn't pick a more updated Infographic?!!   Huh

I mean the 10mill Bitcoins mined, cost of 1 BTC = $30, cost of a mining rig costs $3k, Market Cap only 300 mill....geez way to downplay us Bitcoiners back to early 2013, man!

At least use a more recent Infographic:

It's not quite 2015 up to date stats, but at least we're in the right ballpark!
2328  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What can you -not- buy with bitcoin? Let's get that list down to zero by 2016 on: March 12, 2015, 02:24:01 PM
You know what you can't buy with Bitcoin yet?  Yachts.

I mean you can probably go through https://www.bitpremier.com/, but I mean you can't go to your local yacht dealership and point to a Yacht and say you want that model in navy blue with gold trim.  Can't pick and choose, just whatever's posted on the site.
2329  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So we did stop calling it an experiment, did we not? on: March 12, 2015, 02:05:35 PM
I still call it an experiment, since we're largely in the "testing" phase.  Unfortunately(fortunately?), we're all the test dummies or lab rats.  It could pay off big much later, but there's still alot of things brewing in the lab.

The best technical phrase to call Bitcoin at the moment is probably "Beta", since that's exactly what you'd categorize the software right now.  We're still going through different versions and iterations of Core, Gavin's going to fork Bitcoin once again in June, and we still haven't reached 1.0 production release.
2330  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do girls use Bitcoin ? on: March 12, 2015, 01:59:03 PM
Speaking of women of Bitcoin (won't say girls anymore, because that implies really young), there's a new big wig in charge of a new major Bitcoin startup:

http://www.coindesk.com/former-jp-morgan-exec-blythe-masters-swaps-wall-street-for-bitcoin/

It's time to start acknowledging these powerful women like Blythe Masters that drive our favorite Crypto for the better.

2331  Economy / Speculation / Re: Damn, just bought 0.25 btc and now it's tanking! on: March 12, 2015, 01:14:39 PM
^^^^^^
Sorry, dudes! I have no more play money to pour into this hobby. You're all on your own. Good luck to y'all.

ARGH!  No wonder we're stuck in this $290's holding pattern.  Well, I wish you luck stonerider!

If you somehow do decide to jump back in with a few more 0.25 BTC chunks, please post so we know we're above $300.   Smiley
2332  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: whats the most creative way of keeping bitcoins in cold storage on: March 12, 2015, 01:07:49 PM
Hide them in a painting or in a bunch of multi step riddles Da Vinci Code style:

Unless you have Robert Langdon, you ain't getting my private keys...
2333  Economy / Speculation / Re: If BTC goes to ten hundred billion dollars on: March 12, 2015, 12:52:56 PM
Sure, why not.  I'll buy a whole block of 25 BTC from the grave...

Please, let's pump the brakes on all these Bitcoin to million, zillion, infinite illion threads for now.

We can't even cross $300 and stay there.   Cool
2334  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do girls use Bitcoin ? on: March 12, 2015, 12:47:39 PM

Ahh Bitcoin Girl, believe she has a music video to go along with her moniker:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEthXBHsEac

I gotta check her out one day at the NY Bitcoin Center, ask her some crypto questions.
2335  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone Knows Hump The Bundle Porn Site? on: March 12, 2015, 12:44:22 PM
Ever heard of XXXcoin or Titcoin?

Yeah. I guess those were stepping stones in something like this. In fact, I think that some porn sites already accept bitcoin

Ahh the ole Titcoin by Pornhub:

Despite the abundance of pervs out there, never really pointed upward...
2336  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do girls use Bitcoin ? on: March 11, 2015, 09:32:42 PM

So the only high profile woman in Bitcoin is a presumed mail order bride from Ukraine (some kind of Tatar, Circassian or Gypsy due to dark features?), who came to New York two years ago, and acquired her Jones last name through intermarriage?  Very cringe worthy video and an incredibly lame fake story.

If you really want to showcase women then don't resort to tricks.  Go hire booth babes like the gaming companies at E3.

Okay so maybe you don't like the mail order bride look.

Perhaps Perianne Boring, Elizabeth Ploshay, Arianna Simpson, or Connie Gallippi tickle your female Crypto fancy?

Each of these 4 women know and do alot more about Bitcoin than you (and me).
2337  Economy / Speculation / Re: Anyone else who care less about bitcoin now than before? on: March 11, 2015, 08:16:33 PM
So I started with bitcoin a couple of months ago. In the beginning, I would watch charts and do all the things that someone else would do if they were new to bitcoin. But since 1 month, I have stopped checking the charts and reading threads here and news about bitcoins. I simply care less now than before.

I think it's the depressing price that made me care less now because it's not as fun as before. When bitcoin hit around $420 one day, I thought about buying more, since then it's just gone down and down and a bit up and down etc.

Is there anyone else like me? I think I will start to watch charts once the price goes up to what I would refer to as "normal prices - the $350/btc range". In the end, I just hope it will rise to $1000/btc and more, but that seems to be a dream more than reality.

Maybe you cared more at first because it was a new thing to you?  Also perhaps you've realized its either going to the moon or the ground.  You could make a bit of money trading in between but why bother causing yourself the stress, far better ways live.

Everyone cares alot more when something's worth $1200:

It's called greed.  Happens to be the best of us, myself included.

funny you saying it using a Gox charts

(Gox coins are worth 0 right now)

Yup, all part of our history.  Necessary for the long run.  Learn from our mistakes and what not.

You don't see AOL, Prodigy, Compuserve and Netzero anymore, do you?   Wink

All part of a necessary learning curve.

2339  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Once again, what about the scalability issue? on: March 11, 2015, 08:07:21 PM
Looks like Gavin and the core devs will address scalability in June:

http://insidebitcoins.com/news/gavin-andresen-optimistic-about-scaling-bitcoin/30652

Fork away fellas!
2340  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do girls use Bitcoin ? on: March 11, 2015, 06:48:08 PM
Would it do it for you if there wasn't a photo to go along with it?

Yea, that accent really gets my blockchain going...

Makes me wish there were more girls, excuse me women in Bitcoin.  There's a handful in prominent positions already like Elizabeth Ploshay, Perianne Boring, Arianna Simpson, and Connie Gallippi among others.
