2321  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Friends and Family members want me to invest for them, help! on: November 06, 2022, 09:11:01 PM
~snipped~
As long as the parties involved, I.e, the helper and the helpee,  are willing to at least know or understand certain key areas involved
You're apt with that insight about money issues often resulting in scuffle among/between friends. I've tried as much as I can not to allow it come between me and anyone I call my friend. In the case I pointed out, I explained the possible scenario of one losing their money on crypto investment to the friend. He said he knew and still wanted to go ahead (possibly because he wanted something he could survive on). At that point, I decided to shoulder the loss if it ever came to that so he wouldn't have to lose a dime of his investment. That was why I chose to invest it on Bitcoin. As it stands now, he's in profit as per his investment in fiat value.
2322  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Friends and Family members want me to invest for them, help! on: November 06, 2022, 07:52:12 PM
Is my thoughts right? If you are in my shoes what will you do?
I can relate with your situation because I'm in it too. As a principle, I don't like holding investment for people when I'm not directly involved in it. Normally, what I do is help them establish a wallet and then buy and send them the crypto while they monitor its growth by themselves. However, that wasn't to be recently as a friend begged me to buy and hodl for him. It was a difficult moment of decision taking for me. The friend was in a deep financial struggle and was counting on my help. Initially, I wanted to jointly invest his capital on a launchpad token. That was like two months ago. I contemplated it for a while and then went for Bitcoin. That's the only one I'm sure will still be here no matter what. Launchpad token may dip tomorrow and never rise but Bitcoin will always rise even after a serious dip.
2323  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin as a secure investment amidst recession on: November 06, 2022, 06:14:12 PM
If we enter a recession then bitcoin will definitely fall more than the current price.
If there's anything I've come to notice about Bitcoin it's that it defies effects of global economics. We saw what happened during the lockdown in 2019, how the world literarily crumbled but Bitcoin rose and gave hope to its fans. I had a similar discussion a few days ago with a Bitcoin wannabe and I told him it was better keeping his cash in Bitcoin than leaving it in fiat in expectation of recession. Fiat is stable compared to Bitcoin. A dollar will remain a dollar but a Bitcoin will continue to vary in value against dollar. Most times, the value is of spiral dimension. The way things are looking right now, one can project that a global recession is imminent in 2023. Ironically, 2023 is the year we expect Bitcoin to soar and then record another ATH in 2024.
2324  Economy / Economics / Re: Do you like commission job or salary base job? on: November 06, 2022, 05:54:23 PM
To be frank, I don't like any of the two. I like being the CEO, the employer myself. My position stems from an in-depth scrutiny of the situation. I've worked both as an employee and employer and then realized as an employer of labour, no one pays their employee more than 10% of the total money the staff makes for the company. No matter whatever salary you get paid, thinking it's cool, it's invariably less than 10% of what you would've made for the company. However, if it boils down to choosing between commissioned and salaried job, every proactive employee should go for commissioned job. They efforts will earn them more independently.
2325  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The Unnecessary Pressure For Merits on: November 05, 2022, 02:56:00 PM
Nobody is pressuring anyone to earn merits.
In the real sense of it, only users pressure themselves to earn merit and it's because they want to rank up so they can get better reward with campaigns. What the forum pressures users on is how to make constructive posts devoid of spam. So, for the fact that it takes two to tango users have to be (seemingly) constructive to earn. I used "seemingly" and that's not loosely because I'm of the opinion that awarding merit on posts is subjective to whoever is sending it. It's not necessarily because those posts are constructive.
2326  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bad advice can still be gotten from forum. on: November 05, 2022, 02:34:54 PM
Yes, it's true that bad pieces of advice can be churned out by members here but I don't want to believe anyone would intentionally do that, except it were scam. The thing with advice is that the adviser tends to speak from what they think they know or that which will be best for the seeker, depending on the level and years of experience on the issue. Even advice from counsellors aren't alienated from this. For forum, anyone asking questions and genuinely seeking answers will have to read enough responses to be able to sieve through genuine answers or advice. They must've the patience to go through comments.

For example, your post can be deleted if it's considered as spam or off topic.
That's if it's not posted in Off-Topic sub-board. Otherwise I don't think it even gets deleted.

'If am not thankful for thought then am guilty of greed'
That's the attitude of great minds. To say thank you may look minute but it's a great virtue. I'm a man given to gratitude myself and so I understand when people genuinely appreciate others. I congratulate your efforts at pulling yourself up. You're the real MVP in this case. Now, lace up your boots for more work awaits you to rank up to the top echelon here. Enjoy, bro.

2330  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The Unnecessary Pressure For Merits on: November 01, 2022, 10:36:12 PM
The forum, is just like every other online forum or group
Nope, it's certainly not like every other online forum. It has an edge on others. BTT is about the only forum where people read other's comments to learn and broaden their knowledge on cryptocurrency and then post (when they get to certain ranks) to earn money legitimately. No other fora (none that I know of anyway) pays you for comments you make on social media.

No one is putting anyone on pressure to earn merits but the members themselves, especially if earning merits puts them in a better position for signature campaigns. Otherwise, it's advisable for members to just take their time and make posts that will aid others; not minding whether such posts get merited or not.
2331  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bull or bear November? on: November 01, 2022, 07:39:34 PM
I'm optimistic that Bitcoin will rally north ward for the month of November. I shared this perspective in a different thread here a few minutes ago. We might not have seen enough strength upward to suggest that it could break the $21,000 barrier yet as a few users have pointed out. However, Bitcoin has a way of causing instantaneous spikes to change the tides. I believe that can happen this first week in this month. For anyone trading it, I will advise they look for buy entries more and jettison the idea of shorting it even if the set-up looks enticing.
2332  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Sentiment Poll for November on: November 01, 2022, 07:22:35 PM
It’s all up to the fed. It all boils down to FOMC tomorrow.
My speculation for Bitcoin in November for the past few months was bullish and I still remain bullish on it. November (many have dubbed it Movember) has often been a favourable month for Bitcoin from past studies and I don't see this year's November being an exception. The FOMC tomorrow will, somehow, find away to make that speculation realizable by moving it north bound whichever way we want to look at it.
2333  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: No Alternative to Bitcoin, Your Alternative is Bitcoin. on: November 01, 2022, 02:21:07 PM
In real life, there's always an alternative to whatever there's. This is why there're always two sides to a coin or when people say everything that has an advantage must also have a disadvantage. Sorry to burst your bubbles OP, there're alternatives to Bitcoin. I ain't even referring to fiat alone here but other cryptos. These other items equip us to be able to peg the value of Bitcoin to something. Without these alternatives Bitcoin wouldn't be with a value. We've to factor in that while hyping Bitcoin.
2334  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let me join the Bitcoin Forum on: November 01, 2022, 01:52:42 PM
What is your reason behind Bitcoin's survival to this day and how do you thank Bitcoin.
For me, Bitcoin's greatest asset is its community. It has got a very strong and committed fan base.

Yeah, I was particular about the hoDl dude – GameKyuubi. So, I checked his profile and surprisingly discovered that dude was still active here until June. I was surprised because almost all the icons from Bitcoin's early days have long stopped being active here. We need some of them to bring forth the memories of what it used to be with Bitcoin in the past.
2335  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: bull started? on: November 01, 2022, 01:05:47 PM
It could be that the bull has started as we're already in November, the month I believe favours Bitcoin. I won't be expecting anything contrary to a bullish movement from Bitcoin this month. As it's now, price is resting on weekly support around $19,500 and I sincerely hope it doesn't break it so we can see it reaching for the $24k region where there's a strong resistance. If anyone must short Bitcoin now, they should be very careful doing that. Otherwise, it's better to wait and aim for long.
2336  Economy / Economics / Re: Why exactly did Elon want to buy Twitter? on: November 01, 2022, 11:34:44 AM
Twitter probably brings nice money from advertising. And it can be "improved" to bring more.
Twitter has a huge number of users. I would not be surprised if Elon has in mind businesses targeting vast number of users and this will give a good potential user base.
This is the angle most people aren't looking at from. For me, this is a very vital part of the deal. As a shrewd businessman, many people aren't seeing what he saw while making that deal. I believe he's looking at the advert potential of Twitter which surpasses every other social media site. Buying Twitter for Elon will be like paying heavy sign-on fee on a player with clout but outsiders scream that it's a waste of financial resources until tickets, jerseys and stickers sale shoot up just because that single player joined that club. It's the same thing I see in all this Elon stuff with Twitter. Elon Musk will recoup his invested cash in no distant time.

On the political angle, I think it's about time Twitter's strangulation on free speech/posts was cut loose.
2337  Economy / Economics / Re: Corruption Should Be Taught From Young Age on: November 01, 2022, 10:47:24 AM
In my opinion, only two things can be taught to combat corruption and these are: (1). Contentment and (2). Repercussions. In most countries where corruption festers much, go check their behavioural pattern and you will discover that those two are completely messed up. In such countries, citizens aren't contented with whatever they've acquired. Those who've want to flout it at those they think they're better off than. There's constant display of obscene wealth on social media from these ones. More so, those who are caught in corruption are let loose with little or no repercussions to the crime committed. All that will weaken the morale of those who want to remain pious. This is what happens in most Africa countries with weak institutions that ought to be the standard bearers in addressing corruption. The institutions are gone, completely.
2338  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Why does everyone want to trade? on: November 01, 2022, 09:16:24 AM
I think OP should rephrase that question and succinctly ask – Why does everyone want to make or earn money? The answer will be an obvious one. Of course, everyone wants a better life of comfort which money can afford. People believe engaging in trading can give them all that. Sadly, it's just an infinitesimal number of traders that can truly say they're living that life from profits made in trading.

My advice to anyone going into trading is; they should go for information reads lots of material and practice with little amount, possibly what they can afford to lose than going to take a loan from any financial institution.
Well, there's nothing wrong in arming oneself with the theoretical of trading. However, to tell you the truth trading is more of practical reality and emotional control than reading books. BTW, you sound like you trade Binary. Do you also trade FX?
2339  Economy / Economics / Re: Can One Get Rich or At least Not go Broke During a Recession? on: November 01, 2022, 07:04:53 AM
I have been recently laid-off work due to the recent economic crisis in my country.
This is really a trying time for most of our compatriots at a time like this with inflation hitting higher than before with past administrations. Sometimes I wonder how those without a job even cope when those with a job barely survive on salary. This is why as a matter of emergency no one should stick to one source of income. I hope you get back on your feet soonest.

Talking about staying afloat during recession, one should get into business and into essential products. Products and services that people won't be able to do without. If you like trading, this is the right time to perfect your strategy. Spend more time at your game. This is why I'm trying my hand on Futures. It's an exciting exercise, provided you don't over leverage your capital.

but I've gotten over it now and lesson is learnt - Indeed, people perish because they lack knowledge.
Good to know you've shaken off the hurt and moved on. Such is life. You win some, you lose some.

And now I want to change it, but Theymos is turning his hairy ear to my pleas for lenience.  Maybe if my name was (The)(cool)Cryptovator he might let me.  I'm not bitter.  I'm really not.
my guess is that Theymos finds the  username really interesting and that is why he would not give in to your request to change it
I think you do have a valid point in there on theymos' nonchalance towards TP's request for a name change. Again, coupled with the fact that a name change will completely take away anything that resembles the old name from it. If we look at the user in quote – (The)(cool)Cryptovator – we would discover that the said user's name change revolved around their old name, capitalization got changed to lowercase or the definite article "the" got dropped. How do we relate with "The Sceptical Chymist" being The Pharmacist 🤔
