Paypal is retarded for even thinking or putting any effort into trying to make this the norm. Otherwise, people are going to run to the next best thing - bitcoin. Heck, bitcoin related companies should be using this against them if they don't assimilate.

Quinnipiac Iowa Poll Rand tied for second with 13%

Walker is at 21 percent of likely GOP caucus participants, compared to 25 percent in a February 25 poll by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University.

In the scramble for second place are U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky and U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida with 13 percent each, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas with 12 percent and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee with 11 percent. Physician Ben Carson has 7 percent, with 5 percent for Bush. No other candidate is above 3 percent and 6 percent are undecided.

Bush tops the list at 25 percent, followed by New Jersey Gov. Christopher Christie with 20 percent, when likely Republican Caucus participants are asked if there is any candidate they would definitely not support." Paul is next on this negative list with 10 percent.

"The first few months of the Iowa Republican caucus race show Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker as the early leader. U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, on the strength of an impressive candidacy roll out, has moved from the bottom of the pack into a tie for second," said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac poll. "Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who has yet to formalize his candidacy while he amasses what most expect to be a massive fund-raising lead, runs seventh with just 5 percent of the vote.

http://www.quinnipiac.edu/news-and-events/quinnipiac-university-poll/iowa/release-detail?ReleaseID=2223

Walker 21
Rubio 13
Paul 13
Cruz 12
Huckabee 11
Carson 7
Bush 5
Perry 3
Christie 3

Cruz and Rubio got a bump, walker went down, and Rand stayed the same.

Rand Paul on Fox's "On the Record" w/ Greta Van Susteren last night
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkH1smQpKZQ
Rand talks about Saudi Arabia's financing of radical Islam, the recent event in TX and they talk about the latest Wall Street Journal poll that shows Rand as the best republican to go up against Hillary as well as Rand mentioning that a poll that came out in the last few weeks shows that he's the only republican that can beat Hillary in battleground states like CO, PA and IA and said that the general republican voter needs to know that. Kinda hinting that it's not being made very well known.
2344  Economy / Speculation / Re: XBT Provider on: May 06, 2015, 04:20:11 PM
GBTC has started trading with no affect on market price...yet.  Only been 2 days.  Next significant date seems to be may 18th when NASDAQ Stockholm begins trading xbt provider which says they will back all shares bought with bitcoin.  Seems like this could have a much more immediate affect on price.  Volume will also be waaaay higher to start.

GBTC can't influence the market, anyways. The volume is much too low in order to do that. First of all, it's more of a long-term asset, anyways, and secondly there aren't many people who are actually eligible to sell their shares. GBTC was created by using a "loophole", anyways. A real ETF that is buying coins on the open market will make things pretty interesting, I presume!
I think this opening phase of a few weeks or a few months is the predictable time to test the waters and let larger orders keep outbidding themselves and when the volume does pick up, by a few larger shareholders willing to sell some or all of what they hold, then they could take the shares they sold at 2,3,4,5x current bitcoin market price and start buying coins on the open market and drive the price up. So, I haven't seen the data about what the average shareholder holds in BIT but I'm sure that there's plenty of holders w/ the equivalent of 4 and 5 digits of bitcoins. If they're able to get 2,3,4,5x for their shares or more then they can do that much more damage while scooping up coins on the open market, perhaps.
2345  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bold statement: Next target is low ~$700s (Awaiting scream of laughter) on: May 06, 2015, 03:30:08 PM
I don't think we'll even see the price going over $600 in entire 2016 let alone 'low $700'. My target for 2016 is around ~$500 which is a fair estimate.

don't base your prediction on the current, price for estimating the future, for all we know it could reach 1k this year, better to leave the past behind, It does not reflect the direction of bitcoin

Yeah, so many people have been shell shocked that they forget what Bitcoin can do or where it can go when it's on a roll and the panic buying sets in.

‘Critical Alert': Jeff Sessions Warns America Against Potentially Disastrous Obama Trade Deal

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL)
is sounding the alarm to his colleagues Senate-wide, warning them and the American public with a “critical alert” published Sunday evening that voting for the Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) deal that would set up the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal with Asian countries is fraught with problems and concerns.

“Congress has the responsibility to ensure that any international trade agreement entered into by the United States must serve the national interest, not merely the interests of those crafting the proposal in secret,” Sessions’ team writes in a document that lays out the top five concerns with the Obama trade deal. “It must improve the quality of life, the earnings, and the per-capita wealth of everyday working Americans. The sustained long-term loss of middle class jobs and incomes should compel all lawmakers to apply added scrutiny to a ‘fast-track’ procedure wherein Congress would yield its legislative powers and allow the White House to implement one of largest global financial agreements in our history—comprising at least 12 nations and nearly 40 percent of the world’s GDP.

“The request for fast-track also comes at a time when the Administration has established a recurring pattern of sidestepping the law, the Congress, and the Constitution in order to repeal sovereign protections for U.S. workers in deference to favored financial and political allies.”

My sister in law is Muslim but she doesn't make any waves about it as our whole family is Catholic. I don't dislike Muslims and have had great food at their events. This extremist crap is what I abhor. If it came down to Muslims as i see some of them or Evangelicals, then I'd have to choose neither. I really do not like Evamges and can't see myself sharing a table w/ any of them and having a splendid time of it.

easier said than done. but your writing style indicates that you're not really serious. which is good. selling your house to invest is just stupid.
I agree but when one is anticipating a changing market in a new and disruptive area, perhaps mortgaging an asset to have extra fiat to invest is something to think about at least, even if you don't act on it.

2353  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: May 06, 2015, 02:45:18 AM

Excellent. Any serious Bitcoin business will have this view because retaining the 1MB will not only cripple the network but also cripple dependent business models.

I think the problem that luke, gmaxwell, todd etc have is that they are too close to the tech. They think that the decay in confirmation times can be managed (when it will be a PR disaster), they think that the 1MB has relevance to the fees market, they ignore that node quality is improving even though node quantity declines, (but the decline should eventually be arrested by a growing ecosystem, and increasing price).

They basically need to get out of the woods and see the whole landscape: like Coinbase clearly does.

coinbase looks to me like the next mt. gox waiting to happen ... can't see why you guys always rally behind centralised organisations for your self-affirmation. coinbase will be hacked or corrupted in some way, will you be singing their praises for what that brings?

Well, if that's your position then the newb buying options are going to dwindle on the vine to very little here in the US. If the Winks don't pan out then the outlook will be dim for any fatcats getting in and subsequently the boobs will have less options to help on the hindsight. Coinbase having many millions under their belt has to mean something positive for their operations.

Rand Paul tweaks John McCain: ‘Some old guy’ who called us wacko birds

Sen. Rand Paul, Kentucky Republican, continued his war of words with Sen. John McCain of Arizona on Monday, not naming the senator but referring to “some old guy” who once labeled Mr. Paul a “wacko bird.”

Speaking in Michigan, Mr. Paul called Rep. Justin Amash, a Michigan Republican who endorsed Mr. Paul’s presidential campaign on Monday, a “fellow wacko bird.”

“Remember there was some old guy, I can’t remember his name, who called us wacko birds,” Mr. Paul said, The Washington Post reported. “How wacky is it to be somebody who actually believes in the Constitution and all of the Bill of Rights?”

“I won’t tell you who it is, but it’s a senator from Arizona,” Mr. Paul said.

In a 2013 interview with the Huffington Post, Mr. McCain referred to Mr. Paul, Mr. Amash and Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas as “wacko birds” before later apologizing. Mr. Cruz, like Mr. Paul, is running for president in 2016.

Rand Paul’s Donations Show His Small-Town Appeal

...
Online fund-raising data from the first several weeks of Rand Paul’s presidential campaign suggests that much of his initial small-dollar support has come from smaller cities and towns.

After starting his campaign on April 7 with a “Stand With Rand” online appeal, his campaign brought in its first $1 million in less than 30 hours, from more than 15,500 donations, according to data published on RandPaul.com and collected by The Upshot.

He has far to go to match the success of his father, Ron Paul, in collecting money over the Internet. The initial flurry for Rand Paul faded quickly. It took an additional 16 days for the figure to double.

Supporters of Ron Paul contributed $4 million in a single day in 2007, and in 2011 the elder Mr. Paul did a one-day “money bomb” online fund-raising effort that netted $1 million for his presidential campaign.

...

The average donation recorded by the RandPaul.com site hovered around $60 during the first few weeks, although the site did not list the amount of each contribution, just the total number of donors and the total amount. That means that Rand Paul will be able to go back to many of these supporters during the primary season. Indeed, some of them have already given multiple times.

Hillary Clinton rejects Bill’s immigration crackdown, vows lenient approach

Bill Clinton was the strictest president in modern political times when it comes to immigration, signing bills cracking down on both legal and illegal immigrants — but it’s unlikely that record will infect his wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton, who has promised a more lenient approach as she makes a push for Hispanic voters in her presidential bid.

The former first lady and secretary of state already earns relatively high ratings from Hispanics and is moving quickly to head off problems, with her team reaching out to Latino leaders to take the temperature of the community.

On Tuesday Mrs. Clinton will be in Las Vegas to talk immigration with young voters her campaign says are “personally affected” by the issue — a signal, coming this early in the campaign, that she is determined to capitalize on an issue that could produce tremendous payoff in a general election matchup.

http://www.politico.com/story/2015/05/hillary-clinton-2016-andrea-mitchell-117647.html

It’s Andrea Mitchell, host of “Andrea Mitchell Reports” on MSNBC, a top correspondent for NBC News, and a veteran of the Clinton beat who will spearhead the network’s Clinton coverage for 2016 — years after driving coverage on big stories like Whitewater, Bill’s impeachment, and Hillary’s first forays as a candidate.

Mitchell, 68, is back on the trail, acting more like a cub reporter hungry for her first scoop than a star television journalist with her own show or a Washington insider married to former Fed chair Alan Greenspan. She’s one of the most senior reporters covering the race, and one of the most outwardly aggressive, calling Clinton out, chasing her down, asking her questions — and occasionally getting a roundabout answer. Some sources suggest she’s getting under the Clinton camp’s skin, a rope-line irritant constantly shouting after the former secretary of state to answer questions. For Mitchell, it’s second nature.

HILLARY CLINTON TAKES HIT IN WSJ POLL, GOES 24 DAYS WITHOUT TALKING TO MEDIA

The fact that Hillary Clinton – the likely Democratic presidential nominee – hasn’t addressed the controversy over her private email server and the fundraising controversy surrounding the Clinton Foundation in an interview or with the public seems to be causing the former Secretary of State to take a hit in the polls.

A new Wall Street Journal/NBC poll finds that although Democrat support for Clinton remains strong, the percentage of people who view Clinton negatively has increased six percent since last month’s poll, as controversies swirl around the former First Lady.

Last month, roughly 36 percent of individuals surveyed said they viewed Clinton negatively, but now that is up to 42 percent. The Wall Street Journal reports only 25 percent of voters say they think Clinton is honest – which is down more than 10 percent from a poll last summer.

It has been 24 days – more than three weeks – since Clinton announced her bid for president, yet she still has not spoken to national media about her campaign or to address the controversies she is facing. Breitbart News previously reported this is a record for presidential candidates in recent history.

20.7% of Jobs in Baltimore Are Government Jobs

Within the borders of Baltimore City in March, according to BLS, there were 364,200 total “employees.” These employees included both people who lived in the city as well as people who lived outside the city but worked within its limits. Singular individuals who were employed in two different jobs at the same time are counted as two employees in the BLS survey.

Of the 364,200 total jobs in Baltimore City in March, 75,500—or 20.7 percent—were jobs working for the government. That included 39,400 state government jobs, 26,000 local government jobs, and 10,100 federal government jobs.

By contrast, there were only 11,600 manufacturing jobs in Baltimore City, according to BLS. That means government had 6.5 times as many employees in Baltimore City as all of the manufacturers located in the city.

Nationwide in March, according to the BLS, total employment was 141,183,000. Employment by government was 21,898,000. Thus, 15.5 percent of the jobs nationwide were government jobs.

2360  Other / Politics & Society / Israeli Troops Ordered to Kill Civilians on Sight During Gaza Invasion on: May 06, 2015, 01:15:07 AM
Israel has repeatedly denied reports of deliberate targeting of civilians during its wars in the Gaza Strip, those claims were once again proven false today with the release of a new report by Israeli veterans NGO Breaking the Silence.

The report features testimony from more than 60 Israeli soldiers who confirmed that not only did they deliberately target civilians during the most recent invasion, but that they were explicitly ordered to do so.

“Whoever you see there, you kill,”
is how one soldier summed up the orders. He said soldiers were told the civilians “knew they’re not supposed to be there” and therefore they were to kill anyone who wasn’t an Israeli soldier on sight.

Soldiers went on to say that traditional admonishments to use “minimum force” were thrown out the window in the war, and that civilian homes were deliberately attacked “without any clear operational justification,” sometimes just because the military wanted to demonstrate their military control over the neighborhoods.
