And there is no protection from a new online currency rising? Any moment bitcoin might cost zero, because some other @more advanced@ currency is out, e.g. SHA-2048 ^))

It is same like  gold and USD.. Bitcoin costs something which mean nothing more but only trust. I am pretty sure that USD and other currency are like bitcoins without trust they are dead. Nobody can convince me that they cost something..

I have trust in bitcoin and it is not only me. That is why it still exists. Each new digital currency has to earn trust which is not an easy task
2342  Other / Off-topic / Re: BFL shipment date update on: November 27, 2012, 07:24:40 PM

If they were going to take everyone's money and run, it would have been done a long time ago.  They are very likely losing money by having to give out refunds vs the number of new orders they might be taking in.
I am really sorry about BFL. I suggest all of us to send them some money so they can cover their loss and make some money on top? Or just to speed the proses up? We all know that long term winners are ASIC producers themselves. Right?  If i were one of you guy's who preordered almost half an year ago i will feel like i am badly F....D UP. The winners eventually will be the lucky ones from us which happen to have ASIC's delivered first. Actually i am starting to doubt about this also.

Doc,

As i said a couple of times you are my number 1 among all pools. So I am ok whatever you and community decide to do, in order to make this pool stay alive. If number of transactions depends on our payouts frequency (if it related to it at all), i am ok you to change it..If we have to pay something in reasonable amount like fee to reduce orphans it is ok also at least for me

Kano,

You have been very helpful to me several times. You know what you are doing for sure. And you are good also for sure. I see that for some reason you and Doc do not like each other very much. I will ask both of you to arrange your personal things in private. Stating here that we shall avoid this pool seems not good thing to do at all. From the other hand Doc has to respond something and shit begins to happen.

At the end nothing good will came out of your fight. I can bet on that. If you have something to propose to Doc how to avoid orphans just do it. Some of the users here have invested a lot in hardware and every % maters. From the other hand Doc deserves at least not to loose any money because of his hard work. We have to find a way out all together

Peace Smiley

Awesome Smiley Let me know if you see anything strange. After a block change (long poll) bfgminer sometimes says the server is issuing old work. It shouldn't, of course, but I may have a bug there.

Also, we are now making version 2 blocks. It will probably be a while before v2 blocks are required though, as 50BTC and DeepBit have not made the switch yet.

You can see the v1 to v2 transition as it happens at http://blockorigin.pfoe.be/top.php

Doc,

Apart of the bad luck there are to many orphan and stale blocks. Do you think that making version 2 blocks can have something in common? I am just wandering because before that orphan and stales were very low compared to now.

If 2 of your main competitors, BFL and bASIC, are both far enough along into the process of getting ASICs into customers hands as they say they are, then what are your concerns about publicizing this information? It's too late in the game for them to really steal any ideas from you, isn't it?

Who says so? You or them? It may turn out that they are far behind at the end. Please leave Avalon team to work and stop losing their time with pictures and stuff. A picture, 3d rendering does not prove anything at all at least for me
2346  Other / Off-topic / Re: Already delays in BFL shipment plans? on: November 18, 2012, 07:51:15 AM
2x BFL 2xbASIC. Both first run orders. I'll win the short and the long race no matter what Cheesy.
I am interested to win the short race. As we well know long race can not be won at all. I mean that we will have to reinvest everything again and again.
I can not predict what will happen in 1-2 years period at all. Even electricity costs=0, i am not sure what will be the profit of this units ....Not mentioning the fact that they probably will not have any resell value apart of the BTC community itself.

or do like some of us do, order from both, but trust the one with proven track record more.
jally from bfl, bASIC from Tom.

minimize the losses.   Grin

we'll see at the end of december, if i can say "fucking told you so" to the ones ordering from bfl only.

It may turn out that It works like LIFO - do not underestimate AVALON team also. They are local, have good background and have access to top manufacturing facilities with more than one machine also:)
2349  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: FPGA development board "Lancelot" - accept bitsteam developer's orders. on: November 18, 2012, 06:56:49 AM
Probably you did. I can not be 100% sure but my core voltage was 0.5 like yours when they were 0 kohm each...being 3 kohm each it means that you should get very high VCC core (my oppinion) voltage or something else around is damaged which shall be the case

Try the wire thing as suggested. As stated PCB is easy to damage. If you happen to fix at least one of the cores you will able to measure correct core voltage

What is so funny? Call it Firmware or whatever..but for sure some software development shall be done after the hardware production. Am i missing something here?

For me sounds like

nothing more nothing less
Testing, debugging, bug fixing, bitstream develepmonet soon after......
ASIC's will be available next year - personal opinion

2352  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: FPGA development board "Lancelot" - accept bitsteam developer's orders. on: November 17, 2012, 10:04:56 PM
luffy,

Same happened to me also. Although original resistors look OK they were damaged. I suggest to find some 0603 Resistors and replace them. All will be fine. Another approach will be to unsloder them and cheek them with multimeter and  you will see that they are damaged (no resistance). Or you can measure the resistance between two ends of the resistors soldered on PCB. if they are damaged the resistance will be 10 KOhms if they are ok it should be about 5 Kohms

I was trying parallel soldering also. It turned out to be a bad idea because of easy "blowing out"
original ones. Better approach is just to replace them
2353  Other / Off-topic / Re: Already delays in BFL shipment plans? on: November 17, 2012, 05:47:25 PM
There is no plan B right now.

Just personal opinion - the right time for canceling orders if someone wants to is right now. If there is a "cancel wave" for some reason i just do not wanna think how long it will take the refund. Especially those who paid with BTC. Trusting in BTC does not make it a legal currency and actually it may turn out from legal  point of view that nothing is paid at all and there will be no refund - extreme case of course.

For me the right plan is just to stick to our choice (vendor) and wait or quit now.

2354  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Avalon ASIC Development Status [Batch #1] on: November 16, 2012, 07:22:04 AM
For me pictures did not matter at all. It is very clear from the beginning that ngzhang and his team are having access to top manufacturing facilities + their skills make them mine favorites. That is why i "bet" on them! The main difference between them and their competition is that they are "Local" which is a huge advantage. I suggest to leave them work and to loose their time with pictures and such. When they have something to share with us they will do.
2355  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: FPGA development board "Lancelot" - accept bitsteam developer's orders. on: November 15, 2012, 02:33:16 PM
Kano,

Here are results with timing=long for 11 hours

Please note ICA0-ICA3 and ICA26-ICA29 are with changed resistors for sure. There are at lest 3-4 boards from the rest with changed resistors, but unfortunately i can not remember their numbers

Kano,

I have tried --icarus-timing 2:70. I was running it for two days. I have saved the results.

Today i changed the resistors on a couple of my boards. With 2:70 i see a lot of times two yellow leds (on ones with VCC core increased -changed resistors) - The sign on top of the leds is IDLE. When i run cgminer with icarus-timing long No yellow leds - these broads (changed resistors) are blinking like the rest

Can you comment that pls.
Thank you

I can compare the results after two days or so...
