I would definite be interested to be part of a GB if Mike decide (is allowed) to produce funded coins again.

One question, does anybody know why mintcoin is not moving after 3 weeks from 13-16 sat?

I been studding the marked closely the last 5 days, there is a huge sell wall between 15-23 sat. On mint pal is the sell wall 45 BTC, on cryptsy is it 30 BTC.
In current situations will it take 75 BTC to break 23 sat, that is a lot bitcoins!

Thank you for all the work and effort tyrion70 and blastbob.
Addiction has truly been a safe-haven where the people behind have been both trustworthy, honest and reliable.
Please let us know if you are starting any new projects, it should not be hard for you guys to raise funds after this successful GB Wink

hit up the 100+ million accounts. Its ridiculous to ask for donations from users that have modest holdings from something like this.

Yes, I actually agree to that. I would not mind paying a "donation" if I was ahead in my investment, but I have not minted anything yet and the price has only gone down since i bought in. I think that being added to coinkite right now is not the most important thing right, I think it is more important to advertize MINT and explain the concept of PoS - and have more people buying into MINT.

Everyone holding mint should contribute by supporting this matter. Even a very small amount could make a difference if many people contribute! We can do it!  Wink

BC "won", how do we contribute? Pay MINTto the specified adr.? how much?

I placed a link to your project in my signatures, I am pretty active on forum these days, so it will properly be seen by a lot of people.

Good luck!

Thanks for the more in-depth explanation. So does each public key/address have it's own private key? Ie, if you are using multiple addresses to receive funds from different places and track where it's coming from, would each address correspond to a different private key, albeit all in the same wallet?

Yes, each of the public key has a corresponding private key.
You can see it for your self by typing:
dumpprivkey <public key A>
dumpprivkey <public key B>

You will see that each of your public key has its own private key.

Actually when the wallet.dat is created then is a whole pool of private keys generated for you, ready to be taken into use. Some is used for temporary storage of unspent output (which is a whole other story). But this is really not of any concern for a normal user. Just make sure to have backup of wallet.dat and don't forget your passphrase - then is all fine and dandy  Smiley

I think for the sake of this example it would be useful to define exactly what you mean by public and private keys. Private key = the passphrase you use to lock/unlock the wallet, correct? Public key = ?

Oh, alright.

Speaking cryptography terms, is the key-set asymmetric:

The private key (secret key) is for crypto currency typical a 51 characters in base58.
The public key (share key) can be calculated from a private key, the public key is typical 34 characters in base 58.

Most users never see the private key, unless they make paper-wallets (but you can just unlock your wallet and type dumpprivkey <your public adr.> then will you see it.
When creating a paper wallet are you basically printing out the private key on a physical medium, like a piece of paper ect.

The public key is what we use when we send MINT's to each-other.
If I want to send X MINT to you then will I type in YOUR public key into mint-qt and how much I want to send to you.
Lets call my public key A and yours B:
Mint-qt creates a transaction "I want to send X funds from public key A to public key B", qt sign the transaction with MY private key (creating a unique signature which shows that I own public key A). The transactions is then broadcasted to the nodes on the P2P network.

The passhrase is a password to unlock your wallet.dat which is (hopefully) encrypted, and has really nothing to do with the private key.
The mint-qt needs to access the wallet.dat in order to access the private key in order to sign the transaction.

All coins are held in the wallet and you can use one private key to dump them all. The reason why you can create different addresses is so you can have different one for receiving coins from different sources and to keep track of who is sending you what since you can have each source send to each different address but they are all stored into that wallet. Each time you create a new address you will need to backup your wallet to save those new addresses.

Each private key has one corresponding public key, they form a pair.
The other way around: each public key has one unique corresponding private key.

If the message keeps appearing, or if you don't trust it and you want to start fresh, from the debug window you can export your private keys, and then you can import them to another fresh wallet. And then throw away the old wallet.dat file. I don't remember the exact commands, but I did it once. If you need this, let us know, someone would help.

The problem the fellow have is that mint-qt will not start, if it could start this is your suggestion good.
Here is the procedure to recover the private key:

To dump your private key to the following:
unlock the wallet
click on 'help' in the menu bar (top right)
click on 'debug window'
select the 'console' tab
execute this command:
dumpprivkey <your puplic adr. where you send the funds to>

The program will respond with your private key.
Save this in a text file (don't give it to anyone and don't post it here!)

Close down the client.
Delete wallet.dat (make sure to have a backup)
Open mint-qt.
Sync
Once it is ready, go back to the console and write:
importprivkey <your PrivateKey>

no it just gives me a windows error and never opens

It does not look too good, hopefully someone who has more technical insight can help you extract the private key from the wallet.dat.

It is very important to have multiple backup of the wallet.dat, personally I have at least 3 backups on three different medias of all my wallets.

can anyone help me with this http://imgur.com/5JWED8C  .the wallet just crashes after it happens.

Looks like the wallet.dat is damaged. If you have funds in this wallet, make a backup before doing anything else.

Then would I try to load a previously made backup of the wallet and see if mint-qt can load that one.

thanks for the help but i only had one back up of it and i recovered it from a hard drive that get corrupt. i am redownloading the blockchain now to see if that helps, than switch the wallet.dat

Is the wallet encrypted?
yes

I don't think downloading the blockchain again will help.

Does the mint-qt eventually open after you get the warning: http://imgur.com/5JWED8C    ?

Hi,

First of all. Please remember, that im not in developer of Mintcoin. Simply a fan.

- Minting/staking icon requires quite a bit of  changes and additions in source code. Mincoin source is based on different tree than blackcoin or hobonickels, which have this feature. So its not easy copy from another source. But its definately doable if anyone familiar with mintcoin code tree takes time for it.
- Unlock wallet for minting only from gui is not hard to do. At worst, its few hours of work. If no one else takes it then perhaps i find some free time for it later.
- I somewhat agree regarding wallet.png image. It could be better. I would also like a smaller window size wallet. I already made smaller version of wallet from 1.7 in past. No 1.8 yet. Anyway. This is not my decision to make.
- Most users dont even need .conf file. Regarding installer. I cant do it myself, since im not familiar with windows installers neither do i have software for making it. I agree that installer would be nice as an optional choice.
Also a static build would be nice for windows. Getting rid of those .dll files to make installing client even simplier.
- 64bit? I dont know any reason why to use 64bit wallet instead of 32bit on 64bit system. 32bit runs perfectly fine.
- bootstrap torrent. Perhaps it could be useful in later time.

Thank you for explaining Smiley
I think that is cool that you are contributing to the development on fan basis Smiley
I hope to also do a contrition (where I can).
Cheers!

Im selling every two days 30.000 mint at vault of satoshi.
You guys do the same, keep that market liquid.

Is those 30k from minting?

No, from my stash

i mint only like 1000 a day or so.

How can you mint everyday? Will your coins age not be reset after mininting?

I haven't started minint yet (my coins are too young).

welcome aboard! if you have some ideas for the future development don'T hesitate to post them! people here in the thread are really friendly!

Thanks!  Cheesy

I believe that the mint-qt needs some improvements, e.g.:
- Implement a small symbol in the bottom left showing when the wallet is "minting", when rolling the cursor over, you can see status, e.g. that you are not minting because your coins are not "old" enough, and then show the age of your youngest coin.

- Safty: when wallet is unlocked and mininting, then should the user be asked for the password again if sending mints.
- The logo in the wallet, should be more appealing (simple), perhaps just a mint-leave or the mint logo.
- Better installer, manually coping the conf file is not ideal.
- Window 64bit support.
- Mint blockchain bootstrap as torrent.

This is not meant as a criticize to mint-qt, it works great and is stable, just suggesting for new features.

Seems to have gone a little quiet with the marketing side of things.

Anyone care to update how things are traveling with Merchants, plans etc?

It's hard watching others fly, when MINT has so much to offer. I realise long term is the big goal, but would be nice to see some action.

Not anymore. Something is going on. Huge buys just happened. At sell prices... Someone is digging into this coin quick and buying up.

My question is what don't I know. Not a typical pump tactic to buy at current levels... So is something about to happen that will spike this coin?

I have just joined MINT a few days ago.
I have bought 5m over the last days, at 15-16 satoshi.

Not looking to dump, my plan is to MINT - and see if I can help the community make the coin takeoff.
I am a strong believer in PoS.

I have a background in mining, but I am almost completely out of mining (expect one scrypt-miner and one GB), I am most likely not going to reinvest in mining, the profit margin is simple to narrow.
I believe that other miners will do the same when the scrypt ASIC miners seriously hit the market.
