2381  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: June 09, 2018, 06:50:58 PM
But in the tx signing section following, there's no mention of bech32. Anyone have any experience or knowledge of whether a Trezor will sign transactions spending outputs from bc1/bech32 addresses?

You can already generate bech32 addresses and spend from them if you use the latest Electrum. I have used it a few times without any problems. TREZOR is fully compatible with SegWit but it lacks some features on the official TREZOR website.
2382  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [ Need Help ] Coinomi unused addess on: June 08, 2018, 09:16:46 PM
You can still receive to your previous addresses without any problems since you still own private keys needed to spend from them. "Previous addresses" button should show you every single address that belongs to you. Click on the one you need and you will see a QR code.

2383  Local / Tablica ogłoszeń / BitWhisk.io ✦ Usługa mieszania bitcoinów ✦ Szybka i bezpieczna! on: June 07, 2018, 05:47:32 PM
Uwaga!

Strona przyjazna urządzeniom mobilnym, łatwy w obsłudze interfejs;
  • Strona dostępna również w sieci TOR;
  • Dowolna opłata za usługę pomiędzy 0,5 a 3 procent
  • Aż do 10 docelowych adresów;
  • Unikalny czas opóźnienia (do 48 godzin) dla każdego docelowego adresu;
  • Możliwość zmiany opłaty transakcyjnej dla każdego adresu docelowego;
  • Gwarancja usługi (Letter of Guarantee) dołączana do każdego zlecenia;
  • W każdej chwili możesz sprawdzić aktualny stan zlecenia;
  • Możliwość korzystania ze strony bez JavaScript;
  • REST-API dla programistów.

    Chcielibyśmy przedstawić naszą usługę w formie FAQ. Pełne odpowiedzi znajdziesz na naszej stronie.

    Na czym polega proces mieszania?
    Całość jest bardzo prosta. Przesyłasz nam swoje monety, a my wysyłamy monety z naszej rezerwy.

    Nie zapomniałem o was. Wysłałem .002 BTC z opóźnieniem i ręcznie ustawioną opłata transakcyjną. Zero problemów, całość łatwa i przejrzysta.

    Zleciłem przemieszanie bitcoinów z 5 godzinnym opóźnieniem i otrzymałem monety bez żadnych problemów.

2384  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: manually adding transactions on electrum on: June 06, 2018, 07:26:26 AM
I don't think if it is possible. The whole point of an offline wallet is that it has no Internet connection. Electrum is a lightweight wallet so it doesn't synchronise fully with the blockchain but connects to the other nodes. Create a watch-only wallet on an online computer, it will be much easier and more secure. I wrote a tutorial on that some time ago.

2385  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Total number of addresses on: June 03, 2018, 06:09:14 PM
You can try to generate lots of addresses and maybe some will have balance on them Wink

Actually, it's not as easy as you might think. There is a group called LBC which aim so find private keys which correspond to addresses which have some bitcoins on them. As it turns out, it is not really profitable. You would better spend your money on mining either altcoins using GPUs or Bitcoin using ASICs. You can find more information about it in the link above.
2386  Other / Meta / Re: What is going on in the Serious discussion section? on: June 03, 2018, 05:09:15 PM
I agree with you that asking about merit in Serious discussion section is inappropriate. We have a lot of this kind of topics in the Meta.
I wouldn't be surprised if there were people who didn't know that this section has no signatures enabled. Spammers probably don't even check if their signature is in the right place.

I have created a thread in that section once and I wasn't disappointed. Here is a good example of how an ordinary post in this section should look like. Raising the requirements to access that section won't change anything.

2387  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] BitWhisk.io ✦ Bitcoin mixing service ✦ Fast, Secure, Awesome! on: June 03, 2018, 04:31:07 PM
We also want to increase the trust to our service and the following idea comes to mind. What if we publish our backend source code? Of course, nobody can check that this code is installed on server, however anybody could read it and make sure it makes sense. What do you guys think about that? Would you be interested in seeing BitWhisk source code?

I don't think if there is any mixing service which shares their source code. This would definitely distinguish you from the others. However, wouldn't it expose your method of mixing coins and make it easier for someone to track people who have used your service? What else are you working on right now? Thank you for a non javascript version of your website.
2388  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Safer to RECEIVE multiple Bitcoin transactions on Coinbase or Ledger? on: June 02, 2018, 11:31:51 PM
No.

You don't have to verify your identity to send and receive Bitcoins, just to buy and sell them on their site.

I was quite sure that I have seen some news about it and here's the link. I have just checked and I can receive Bitcoin to my unverified account. It is mentioned at the bottom of the Coinbase FAQ.

2389  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Safer to RECEIVE multiple Bitcoin transactions on Coinbase or Ledger? on: June 02, 2018, 10:51:54 PM
I think is safer to receive multiple transaction on coin base, most of my friends use it and I haven't heard them complain about it before. So I urge you to try coinbase

Doesn't Coinbase force its customers to pass through ID verification if they want to send and receive Bitcoin? Not to mention that it is a web wallet so you don't have a control over your private keys. I would consider using a software wallet (Electrum tutorial here) or a hardware wallet. It might take some time for a hardware wallet to sign your transaction but only if you have dozens of inputs. Also, web wallets usually have fixed fees - enjoy overpaid transactions.
2390  Economy / Economics / Re: Cryptocurrency wallets: Can they be hacked?? on: June 01, 2018, 09:23:22 PM
A lot of people believe that for example hardware wallets are the most secure way to store Bitcoin and they are wrong. Both TREZOR and Ledger had some serious bugs. Unfortunately, there is no perfect solution and it has been already proved. Even software wallets such as Electrum or Bitcoin Core had some vulnerabilities in the past. I would recommend anyone to use a cold storage (for larger amounts of bitcoins) and a mobile wallet in case it was possible to spend Bitcoin in a local shop.
2391  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Cost of 51% Attack $2,270,712,250.38 (rindex.io) on: June 01, 2018, 05:44:23 PM
IIRC, the worse thing that can happen is that the miner could've been switched off. They can't be used to attack Bitcoin since they could all be pointed at different pools.

It wouldn't make sense for them to destroy Bitcoin for Bitcoin Cash. They essentially run on the same algorithm. Any attacks on Bitcoin would certainly affect Bitcoin Cash. It creates an impression that Bitmain controls any coin that has SHA256D on it. Bitcoin Gold got 51%'d recently though but it was pretty low cost.

It's a lot more possible for pools to execute a 51% attack than ASIC manufacturers. Pools do not earn all that much from operating one.

Actually, what I meant was that they could slow down the process of solving a block by turning off the miners. Since the difficulty doesn't adjust immediately, it would take it some time for Bitcoin to readjust it (assuming that some people wouldn't fix their ASICs). Bitcoin would be unusable for some time. I was also thinking if it was possible for them to disable fan control and other security measurements which prevent the device from overheating. This could quickly kill the miner.

As you said, it would certainly affect Bitcoin Cash. It is very unlikely that they will try to get rid of the gold mine, but it is unacceptable to see this kind of backdoor.
2392  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Cost of 51% Attack $2,270,712,250.38 (rindex.io) on: June 01, 2018, 05:29:48 PM
I don't think that Bitmain has a backdoor, I know they do. While it doesn't damage equipment, it does prevent them from mining. This backdoor is in almost all S9s (probably only the first few batches were safe). While you can mitigate it with a hosts file change, I doubt many miners know of this. It's called AntBleed.

Thank you for bringing it up. It's been a long time since I read article about AntBleed. Hardly anyone mentions it these days. Now, the question is, when are they going to use it? If they wanted to damage Bitcoin in favor of Bitcoin Cash dominance then it would be disastrous for the whole crypto community. Bitcoin is one of the most popular cryptocurrencies. Imagine how satisfied some people would be if it happened. The media would quickly spread FUD. I am looking forward to seeing some other company trying to compete over with Bitmain.
2393  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: multisig question on: May 31, 2018, 10:30:39 PM
No, it is not possible. You can select up to 15 cosigners and any number of required signatures (<=15). Even if it was possible, it would be extremely expensive to send a transaction.

2. Bitmain flipping the kill switch.

Now the first one is unlikely because such a step will only hurt their investments by denting bitcoin's reputation. Bitmain flipping the kill switch and outright attacking the network as a last resort to prop up BCash is the most likely scenario.

What do you mean by a "kill switch"?

Do you think that Bitmain has some kind of backdoor in their ASICs which would allow them to seriously damage the equipment? Also, Bitmain controls a lot of hashpower, they could slow down the whole network if they turned off their ASICs right after the difficulty adjustment.

Today user dsg21 announced that he is translating texts from English to Polish, Russian and Ukrainian. Since I am running a Polish translation service I decided to check his work and... I wasn't surprised. He is doing translations which are poor quality and include a lot of mistakes. His texts in Polish are translated using Google translate, I pointed it out in his "old" thread.

Question: What happens when a transaction is included in more than one block?
Don't break the forum rules,and no PLAGIARIZING!

Assuming that the block would be valid then it couldn't happen. Transaction can be included in the block only once since it's not possible to spend your bitcoins again.

It's all economics based, where miners only confirm transactions with the highest fees, especially in times where unconfirmed transactions are piled up and impossible to confirm by the next block.

There is no such issue in the Lightning Network since all transactions are settled immediately between two parties as a sort of agreement.
2398  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Cost of 51% Attack $2,270,712,250.38 (rindex.io) on: May 28, 2018, 07:08:07 PM
What about the recent 51% attacks on Bitcoin gold etc?  Does that make an attack on Bitcoin more feasible?

No, it doesn't. Bitcoin Gold is a fork of Bitcoin which is completely different and independent. Bitcoin Gold can be mined with GPUs whereas Bitcoin needs to be mined with ASICs so there is no competition between these two coins (in terms of mining). Bitcoin Gold was supposed to be more decentralized thanks to the different mining algorithm but it turned out to be a huge flaw. Bitcoin developers have no reason to get back to GPU mining, it would be disastrous since the number of ASICs is enormous.
2399  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Cost of 51% Attack $2,270,712,250.38 (rindex.io) on: May 28, 2018, 05:28:25 PM
But would it be possible to "rent" some pools for a short period of time, I imagine it would take some time, more than 1 hour, to redirect these ASICs., and use a dormant farm for an attack?
How big would your farm need to be if you could rent BTC.com and AntiPool, which at that time represent 39%, for only 40 minutes?

Why would even mining pools agree to "rent" their hashpower? If they actually did that, they would quickly lose their users. I don't really think if there would be many farms interested in this form of attack. Long-term earning is much wiser than trying to cheat and sell as much as possible. The rest of the network would quickly realize that the 51% attack was performed. Just look what is going on with Verge which is/was being attacked. The 51% attack is the reason why there are people who think that banning ASICs and mining only with GPUs is a good way to prevent it from happening. And... Bitcoin Gold was also attacked.
2400  Other / Serious discussion / GDPR on: May 27, 2018, 07:31:08 PM
I am surprised that nobody has mentioned it here yet. GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) was implemented on 25th May. If you didn't hear about it then you are probably living under a rock. GDPR is supposed to let European Union citizens control their personal data.

A lot of people have been complaining about GDPR. Some people say that it is a huge hassle for small businesses because it increases the amount of work that needs to be done and preparations which, in some cases, might have been expensive. There were 2 years to prepare for the GDPR so why so many people are complaining? It wasn't a sudden change in the law, but, still, there are many websites which decided to simply block the EU IP address ranges.

I would like to hear opinions of European and other bitcointalk members.
