Newest testing firmware 20130408 has an issue when you first start or when you change pools, cgminer doesn't restart. It hangs and sits for several minutes until watchdog kills process. Then it works ok.

I have my units hashing nicely, but I'd like to test/move them on p2pool, question: is it "safe" to do a firmware update from wifi? I have them connected via wifi, right now, I could connect a laptop to the lan port, if it is safer.

If you do that you still need to modify /etc/init.d/cgminer to read the 4th pool parameters and add those to the command line when starting up the cgminer daemon.
/etc/init.d/cgminer and /etc/config/cgminer modified but if I do not start manually cgminer from command line, where is this stored in luci? |

I have done this -> now I have 4 pools in Cgminer Status page (one twice) (edit: no more one twice because I had to edit /etc/config/cgminer too again..) and on Cgminer Configuration page still only 3 pools  |

Miner.php (in the official cgminer) will allow you to manage the pools if things are configured correctly, maybe try that?
I have looked in whole luci -> there is no miner.php I have tried in /etc/config/cgminer to add a 4. pool -> with no influence... |

Ok, 5 BTC finde ich nicht allzu übertrieben viel. Ich würde es gut finden, das Projekt dort zu sehen, weil es
- die Abrechnungen der Gewinne (Dividenden) vereinfachen und transparent machen würde
- den Handel mit den Shares ermöglichen würde und
- das ganze Projekt ein wenig "offizieller" aussehen lassen würde
Zusätzlich wäre vielleicht auch dein eigener Verwaltungsaufwand geringer.

Maybe you need to try pools with Stratum mining protocol supported.

1) Get a better router. A router that supports the 802.11n wireless standard is the idea. Also if the router has multiple antennas as is typical with the MIMO capable routers then that's even better.
in the meantime I don't think its a router problem today when I came to Avalon location I have seen the blue led (which means all ok) but the hashrate was ~760 MH    much getworks and not much accepted I was able to log in and reboot without any problem... |
