Coinbase has very basic ability, but can be set up instantly. BitPay requires signing up and waiting for approval (you have to supply a lot of info), but more functionality and options.

I guess it's official, I've been scammed, artiqvae seems to have disappeared. Anyone else dumb enough to actually send this guy Bitcoin?
Glad it was under .04 BTC I sent, so the loss is inconsequential... Except for the slight sting of being scammed for the first time.

Lets stop the bidding for 24 hours and let the .5BTC guy be the lucky guy >:-)
That sure didn't happen!

Thanks, you made me realize I misread the auction; I thought it ended 24 hours after the auction started! But I get it now...

How is it a currency? - I can't pay for fuel with it and I can't pay for items through bitpay with it ? ... All your doing is trying to manipulate bitcoin into something it's not. All I see is a fancy t-shirt made out of silver saying "I <3 Bitcoin"
I guess this can come down to some philosophical arguments, Bitcoin is different things to different people. I've talked to a few people I look up to in the community (who only know of this item from press coverage), and they seem to think a lot more of this item than you do. And my sense is, if you brought these to a Libertarian enclave, you would find these "coins" would indeed be accepted as currency, perhaps more readily than if you asked to pay in actual BTC. And maybe the person who accepts this "coin" as payment today might accept Bitcoin tomorrow.

Any chance you'll have any for to sell at the LA Bitcoin Meetup next week?
Hey, is that the meetup in Santa Monica you're talking about, or is there another LA meetup? Interesting, it appears there are two different Bitcoin meetup groups that have this event date/location. I hadn't seen this group before, I'm a member of this group: http://www.meetup.com/Los-Angeles-BitcoinRegardless, looks like we'll all be there for this event!

Hi.
I sent BTC a few days ago, sent you a private message and posted on this thread. Can you confirm BTC receipt and that my round is coming?
Thanks.
[EDIT a day later: is this my first time being scammed of BTC? If so, I guess it's a cheap lesson learned. I sent the BTC, I'll let the thread know when I receive a coin, or at least a reply.]

Withdraw your bit coins from mtgox. Use coin base to transfer to bank. Coin base is 1% fees. Plus I at least get same day deposits
I was going to suggest the same thing (or use another exchange you trust). Seems easier and less risky to use another exchange than going through a third party. I assume there are reasons that some people don't want to (or can't) do it this way, but I'd love to hear the specific reasons why some of you think a service is preferential to just using another exchange. Off topic a little................. but I like your avatar. I guess it's not perfectly on topic, but I think my comment was related enough to be pertinent (and I'm glad you like the 3D animated GIF I created)! So, I ended up coming up with my own answer to my question, when I remembered the large spread between the Gox price and the BTC price on other exchanges (including Coinbase). The spread is around 10%, so a Gox cash-out service charging 2% does make financial sense, vs. transferring to another exchange to cash out. It also allows for simple arbitrage opportunities.

I think the publicized hack adds uncertainty to a buyer's mind. So I would think the average price (in BTC) of resold coins will creep down a bit, more so with the coins that show the least evidence of tampering. It will be interesting to see.
I am attracted to Casascius coins as a longterm collectible, and as a very cool physical embodiment of the idea of Bitcoin. I don't plan on selling the couple I own, at least not in the near future. But if I were sitting on a lot of coins with the intention of selling them, I would not be happy about an additional perceived risk in the minds of buyers that the coins could be drained of value after they were purchased.
Another concern I have for the coins is that someone will simply create great duplicates of the holographic stickers. If people can counterfeit governmental currencies, I assume they can counterfeit one of these stickers.
