241  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF100-the first 28nm Dual-Mode Miner gets into mass production on: June 23, 2015, 08:02:29 PM
I would love to run a group buy for these units but would only do so with Sfards' blessing.
This would be the very best! OgNasty definitely has the skill and reputation to run a group buy, Sfards needs to give their blessing ASAP!

I would also be interested in setting up a U.S. based Group Buy.  If someone from sfards would like to make a comment on this I can go ahead and start arranging one.
I'll get in on that, young man.

I'd imagine they'd want to clear the inventory before the new S7's roll out, so hopefully the pricing gets adjusted a little bit?

Maybe I'm not seeing this elsewhere, but do we have some definitive data on the S7?  Is the S6 also not a thing?

Cheers.

Has anyone purchase an S5 from the shop lately?  I'm curious if the 72 hour waiting period is precise, or if they "provision" that GH sooner on occasion.  Thanks in advance!

Yes I purchased 2 a few Fridays ago, and by Monday evening it was up and running.
Thank you!

246  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] NiceHash.com - sell & buy hash rate cloud mining service / multipool on: June 12, 2015, 11:53:42 AM
Different algorithms and service locations were differently affected. For some (Sha256 and Scrypt on NiceHash) were almost unaffected, because these most likely had big fat orders with enough of BTC loaded.

Quark on NiceHash for example, was severly affected - I remember the price was 10 times lower than usual when we started web back up, but then in few minutes price went up as buyers started placing new orders.

To follow up on this, I was mining SHA256 and saw no drop in pay.  The order books weren't accessible, so this makes sense.

I can't speak for anyone else, but my dashboard doesn't show any data from the down time, but the payout once the graphing resumed is exactly where it should have been.

This sounds a lot like CoinLenders or whatever it was (run by TF). We saw what happened with that one.

How public is your identity, OP? How can we verify who you are, and what you've done in the past? It's risky enough as it is. Even more so if we don't know you, Smiley.

My bio is pretty simple:
I worked seven years for a media startup called Danwei, which is an English language media website and consulting firm founded by Jeremy Goldkorn (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Goldkorn ).
The company was sold to Financial Times in early 2013.
I worked at Financial Times' Beijing office for a little more than a year as a researcher and left the company in May, 2014.
I subsequently joined a few Bitcoin companies, including a brief stint at OKCoin (worked as a member of the overseas team responsible for media communications), Coinarch, an Australian exchange. HaoBTC is the third BTC company that I work for.
I translated a few books as a hobby - still doing translation when I have time.
I am a contributor to CoinDesk and Forbes.
Can't think of anything to add.
Most info can be found on my Linkedin page.

Thanks for this information.  Can you briefly describe how deposits are secured internally?  I understand the need to keep somethings closer to the vest than others, but it would ease my mind knowing that two or three digit deposits are secure.

Thanks a million!
249  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: June 10, 2015, 07:20:22 PM
They are optimistic for their shareholder or anyone buying stocks (investment in the company)

Which is still a valid mechanism to find a return in the mining business.  I would invest in a public offering, although it's likely to be private rounds.

you can buy it already on the pink sheets (OTC): BTCS ($0.21, market cap $35 mil)
Since it is a merger of equals, whatever new company will be called, current shareholders in BTCS probably will get at least ~50% of new company equity.

EDIT: Nevermind, the article specifies that BTCS gets 53% of equity if the merger goes through.
Honestly, I don't see what BTCS brings to the table except cash.
They are basically a user with ~$2k/day revenue from their current mining operation ((0.98/373)X3600X229).

Cool man, I didn't realize there were pinks for this.  That's what I get for not looking!

Eric,

Thanks for the neat offering, I look forward to using it.  That said, I'm concerned about the security of banking deposits--not concerning the integrity of your business, but of any unknown security vectors from outside attackers.  Can you describe how our banking or financing funds are stored?

Is there anyway we can store those funds in a multisig vault and still provide you with the capital you need while providing depositors with extra security?

Cheers!

what was the first pacmic  payout rate  ,   pacmic v2  is 0.45

first one was literally double it .7
They got greedy with version 2 and cut the interest in half essentially

Half of .7 is .35, so they didn't slash it quite in half.  I'm also not sure if the change could be described as greed, they likely needed to fine tune what is a nascent offering.

That said, I'm not sure if I'm going to buy into this round.  I think I could do better in the slightly riskier Hashnet market.

Yea, if the original PACMiC was 22% APR, this one will be roughly 14% or so, not sure its worth it unfortunately since it isn't risk free and depending on the difficulty over the next couple of months, could actually be more risky than buying other hash since you can't cut your losses and get out.

That being said, I will buy some because for now, I think they are a good stable return.

EDIT: Also wondering if I auto buy from my version 1 PACMiC will it buy in to version 2?

EDIT 2: NVM you Tracer answered that elsewhere. It doesn't appear to.

If PACMiC v2 is only paying 14% APR you can do better with an interest bearing wallet at HaoBTC. If you deposit 10 bitcoin for twelve months you will receive 15.58% APR. For wallets holding under 10 bitcoin the APR is fixed 8%. Advantage over PACMiC is you can withdraw your funds at any time.

Weren't they having some kind of problems with paying out users or being insolvent?  I thought I heard something recently where they were looking more and more like a scam daily.  Could be wrong.

HaoBTC is a pretty new venture, and they have some compelling evidence that they're legit, e.g. a 7+ PH mining operation on hydro power.  I'm too lazy to link, but you can find the details here somewhere.  I've deposited and removed some BTC without issue this week.  Either way, remember to not use money that you can't afford to lose.

Sometimes I wonder if it is just pure bad or good luck or if there is a problem somewhere that can contribute to bad luck.  It would be nice to know when there is a problem.  I sent them a wakeup call just to be nice and make sure they were not asleep at the switch.  Seems to have worked!

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but this is math, plain and simple.  We've had great luck for a bit, now we have bad luck for a bit.  At the end of the day, it literally all balances out.

Except when it's not.....  Like fire, bad internet connection, DDOS attack, technical difficulties, etc.  All I'm saying is that a little status update from AntPool would be appreciated.

If you're submitting shares via stratum at the approximate expected rate, it's safe to say there isn't a building on fire.  DDOS attacks, bad net connections and other issues cause disconnects, which you should mitigate by have fail-over pools. If you are submitting shares, you should be good.

I recognize that there are cases that this may not hold true, but those cases have been historically rare.  What is not rare is normal variance in pool luck--it's just the mathematical nature of the business.  I would suggest anyone hoping for updates from pools about bad luck instead spend their time reading up on the protocols as described on the Bitcoin wiki.

Edit: I'm not trying to sound like a dick, and I apologize in advance if this comes off that way.  Just trying to spread the gospel of math.

Hmmm, Did you guys see the new mining features on antpool today Huh?

aside from solo mining which payout you think is better PPS or PPLNS ?

who would solo mine Its a trillion in 1 chance with 2 TH/s that you will ever hit a block that's only for the rich and greedy that have PH/s

then again I don't want to get called out how do you figure the odds on hitting a block with 2 TH/s ?

what's your opinion ?
Currently, PPLNS is paying out 102% all time, so I'm going to keep my hashing power where it is for now.  That said, there are times when my payout is less then average (and sometimes more) due to pool luck.  If you need a steady, level income PPS may be the best choice.

Good luck!

Edit: I believe, although I'm not 100%, that there is a fee for PPS payouts.  It's in your best interest to do the math on that before you make a decision.

Not to steer the conversation away from v2 PACMiC, but has the market stopped matching trades?  There's a glitch in the matrix on the S5 market.  Just a heads up if you're reading, BM.

Edit:  It must have been a glitch in my matrix, it appears to be running fine.

If I have auto buy turned on for for PACMiC v1, will it buy into PACMiC v2 with the reinvestment?
It doesn't appear to be doing that, no.

Well my Pacmic is almost paid off now.  Was nice while it lasted... hoping we get a ants 6 PACMIC maybe one day.

Mine is 85% paid off--I'm hoping that BM will open up those retired assets for a second round.

Something new on antpool under account settings it says "VIP REQUEST" then it says "Private IP Request" Can anybody tell me if its working and how to use it without screwing things up.

Sensible answers only all others types please keep to yourself thank you.

I believe that a private IP is given to miners with petahash+ hashing power.  I've seen other pools do it, I presume as a mechanism designed to keep VIP users from being affected by DDOS attacks on the public IPs.  Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
