241  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Sexcoin - coin for adult industry on: June 05, 2013, 09:57:43 AM
Can you setup the official site of sexcoin?
Yes, will launch very nice website soon.

Hope its a .xxx or you'll hit some hurdles in the future dealing within the industry, and damn they can get expensive to startup.

not necessarily.. the whole .xxx seems like a big scam and will never actually come into full gear in my opinion. Working in that industry I have seen the hype go up and the hype go down and well now no one seems to have done much about it.  Too expensive, and would be too easily blocked where websites aren't ready to lose anymore money then they already have...but it does look fancy imo to have it..just sayin!

Huh, if you're not getting any output from bfgminer window in MacMiner for 10.8 1.1 can you please run it in the Terminal at /Applications/MacMiner.app/Contents/Resources/bfgminer/bin/bfgminer and give me the output of that? I've had a couple of reports of problems with 1.1 but haven't heard enough to put my finger on the problem yet…

in 10.7 just cpu miner window does --scrypt till the next update whereas in the 10.8 version cpu window and bfg miner window support it.

Just had a chance to test this again on 10.8 with the newest 1.1.1 update. BFgminer still does not start and when ran in terminal as suggested I get this:

Code:
Need to specify at least one pool server.
Input server details.
URL:
mining.usa.la.hypernova.pw:9332
Username:
worker.1
Password:
xxxxxxx
Segmentation fault: 11

CPUminer for scrypt seems to be working properly and poclbm Miner works well with BTC but no LTC as expected.

I'd just warn people NOT to install macports and homebrew on the same machine unless you really know what you're doing or you can mess up your system

Yes..very true! something I should of added and will be sure to going forward.

What does the BFG Miner output look like on 10.8?
unfortunately I get no output/stats with bfgminer window in MacMiner on 10.8. I hit start and it just does nothing...or did you mean the output from bfgminer in terminal?

The MacMiner window (poclbm) doesn't support scrypt, or p2pool for that matter. on 10.7 use -T --scrypt
So in the new 1.02 update for 10.8 does any of it support scrypt? honestly though won't be using 10.8 to mine LTC anyway but just happy to help test it out for you. 10.7 OSX is my main mining system Wink
247  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: The official MacMiner thread on: May 30, 2013, 09:50:18 AM
FWIW, trying to get mining working under OSX 10.7 with the newfangled USB Block Erupters, and it seems that CGminer 2.11.4 does not support --icarus-options.

Is building 3.1.1 a huge pain for OSX ?

lets just say it takes plenty of trial and error but i finally got 3.1.1 working on 10.7 thru using homebrew. Macports had way to many issues and had to uninstall it and take the homebrew route which finally got working. You need these dependencies : coreutils autoconf automake jansson libgcrypt libgpg-error libtool libusb pkg-config yasm curl

The following guides helped me but if i remember correctly i had to change a few scrypt lines to finally get it working...if you run into an error at any point let me know and I will see what I can do to help. Also googling your error and adding osx bitcoin mining to the end seems to usually bring up a workaround to fix that problem and bring you the next..best of luck!

I'm about to test this out with three 7970's just for the fun of it.
I just got the 7970's booting with OSX.  But I have a feeling they won't be able to mine.  Since 10.8.3 is still a early version of the 7xxx drivers.
I'd be interested to hear how it goes! I'm guessing that's a hackintosh, unless you're using PCI risers? 7970 should work in a Mac Pro, the only difference unless you flash the card being a lack of a boot screen.

just doing a little fun litecoin testing on my MBP retina w/Nivida GT 650m with the newest update while i am out of town from the 10.7 mac pro..and no it is not my regular mining machine or do i really use it for one but have to keep myself occcupied somehow while staying in hotel rooms..and the power is free Wink Currently on the new MacMiner for 10.8 my CPU miner does not start, nor does bfgminer and macminer poclbm window acts like it is working and gets to this and then stops? :
Code:
mining.usa.la.hypernova.pw:9332 30/05/2013 02:27:47, checking for stratum...

mining.usa.la.hypernova.pw:9332 30/05/2013 02:27:47, using JSON-RPC (no stratum header)

mining.usa.la.hypernova.pw:9332 30/05/2013 02:27:47, LP connected to mining.usa.la.hypernova.pw:9332

Also when I try to add --scrypt to MacMiner window it is not recognized Sad  Any update on some love for that 10.7 update? my mac pro 1,1 would certainly love it!!
As for hash rates I get a 160/m on bitcoin but when LTC mining on a 5770 in mac pro i can get up to 50/60k using a intensity of 12 and --thread-concurrency 3200 and -w 64. I should be getting 130/k so still trying to figure that one out. Sounds like the opencl issue that was mentioned could be why Sad  Going back to MBP testing with 10.8 I can get about 45/khash using CPUMiner from previous macminer update and roughly 25/k using cgminer in terminal. When I use bfgminer in terminal it gets bout 7-10 khash so Cgminer seems to be the better way to go for MBP's. Honestly though after a month of playing with mining on osx it is a shit ton of fun but profit wise very slim and decided to buy some litecoins the past week as i am only at .7 of a LTC in mining for over a week and something with Hypernova pool which is not acceptable. Will keep mining though and possibly just make a windows rig to do the real damage. But for now mining on an osx is goodtime and just fun and will keep working on getting that hashrate a doable one.
248  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER ASIC FPGA GPU overc monit fanspd RPC linux/win/osx/mip/r-pi 3.1.1 on: May 26, 2013, 09:15:32 AM
I have searched far and wide and have not found and answer to solving my 40 Kh/s on a ATI Radeon 5770 problem via CGminer 3.1.1 on osx 10.7 Lion Mac Pro 1,1 .

This is my script line:

Code:
export GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=100
export GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS=1
cgminer --scrypt -w 64 --lookup-gap 2 -g 1 --thread-concurrency 3200 -I 12 -o http://litecoinpool.com:9332 -u worker.1 -p xxxxxx

I keep reading about adding : --auto-gpu --gpu-engine --gpu-memclock --auto-fan --gpu-fan  --temp-target --temp-overheat --temp-cutoff ,etc.

and can not get any of those to work with CGminer. Upon adding any of the above Cgminer will not open, and adding anything above Intensity 12 crashes the computer? Any ideas? Would love to reach 160 Smiley
249  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Asteroid -- a new Mac mining client on: May 24, 2013, 03:07:59 AM
Would love to test it out on my Mac Pro running 10.7 Lion...does it have scrypt enabled for Litecoin mining or only BTC? PM sent
250  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: The official MacMiner thread on: May 23, 2013, 06:28:21 AM
mm, I have a 1,1 around as well but work on a 2012 model… But I only really mine BTC and I didn't recompile for the binary in the 10.7 version… should be fixed in the next week. I think Tim Cook promised a Mac Pro 'replacement' later this year - not really sure what to expect! And they're not allowed to sell the Mac Pro in Europe anymore due to silly EU rules about the encasing for fans so I'm expecting whatever it is sooner rather than later - possibly the 'made in America' line they're working on.
yep I think we are all waiting to see what is going to happen so might as well just be patient a bit longer to see what gets released. *keeps fingers crossed*

I wouldn't personally use a workaround to install 10.8 on the 1,1 - I can't remember why but I looked it up when I was thinking about it but was put off by the downsides…
If you've just set something big exporting/rendering then yeah it'll be the CPU but if you're editing clips etc. the GPU is going to be working too… though a lot more in Motion than Final Cut and I use the former a lot more than the latter so I'm not entirely sure how much of a difference you'd notice.

Was thinking the same exact thing on CPU/GPU and system install. Nice to have another person back my theory to help divide my mining time on either or. From my experience usually when it comes to hacking system software especially on osx it all starts to go a little haywire at some point. Keeping in as is until FCPX stops supporting lion.

If you're thinking of a new GPU I'd say 2 things - make sure it's one a lot of people have flashed for Mac, and only bother if you'll benefit from the upgrade, BFL are finally starting to ship ASICs a little quicker and the difficulty is going to keep rising quickly so it's going to be increasingly hard to get a decent return from a GPU…

Really trying to mine Litecoin going forward so hopefully all us GPU and CPU kids will have a bit longer before some monster comes out to put us out of business. If i add just 1 x high powered 7970 or something of the like it will at least give me some juice to stay in the game a bit while BTC miners start to switch to LTC and other alt coins. just a theory and working out all the details...and happy to test out anything you got to throw at me..well that works with  10.7 anyways Wink Thanks again for the help!!
251  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: CGMINER different settings for 2 different gpus on: May 23, 2013, 12:06:08 AM
its very finicky so mess around with the spaces in between commas or make sure the -d is lowercase which can cause an issue. You can also make 4 different Launch.bat files for each card to make things are little easier to test out at first. One would be -d 1, the next -d 2 and so on..

Oh yes I remember now, I'm afraid CG Miner isn't compiled with scrypt, so cpu is actually the only one that'll work with it on the 10.7 version, there's something else for v1.0.3! Sorry about that.

Its all good Smiley will just go back to working with GUIminer in the meantime for LTCmining on the GPU until we can get it all working. Would love to update to 10.8 but sadly I am one of the kids on a 1,1, Mac Pro who doesnt have the hardware to make it happen. I was reading I can do a work around with chameleon? If i really wanted to but assuming that would cause more of a mess then it is worth. Really waiting for the new Pro's to come out I think early next year and that just scoop up one of those bad boys. For now though stuck with Lion.

The xt1900 is just too old and won't work with the mining software, I don't know much about flashing -- you can run newer ATI cards on a Mac (10.8 again) without even bothering now!

Mining while using the GPU for video editing will slow you down. I turn it off if I'm using Apple Motion, but that's on a machine with only one GPU (another 5770) so I can't say whether Final Cut will use both GPUs or just the one the monitor is connected to/the one in the x16 slot. That said, depending on your mining (low intensity specifically) settings it might not affect you too much as the mining does scale back so the GPU can process for other things.

For the PCI setup that pops up you'll want to keep the 5770 in the x16 slot and get the xt1900 in the x8 slot for the best performance on both.

Definitely I do a turn off all mining when doing any editing and really keep it on for times when just in a browser or at night when sleeping and the machine isnt rendering. Although when rendering/formatting files I guess that would just be CPU intensive right? So could ideally keep the GPU on, CPU off to not do any crazy overpowerring. In the end I will just have to play with the 1900 and end up probably making it a scrap GPU. Which brings me to my next thought..I think i will just go buy a 7950 or 7970 this week and popit in the PC miner i have right now with a NVIDIA GT250 chugging away at slow speeds one hash at a time. Or pop a new 7950 into the mac and pull the 5770 out of here into the pc if they are interchangeable like that since the mac is the fastest machine at this time. So many options and appreciate your time and help in figuring it all out. If you need a tester for any new macminer updates just let me know
253  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: The official MacMiner thread on: May 22, 2013, 08:03:59 PM

When I add the --scrypt to the options i end up getting this error ?:

[2013-05-22 12:47:28] /Applications/MacMiner.app/Contents/Resources/cgminer/cgminer: --scrypt: unrecognized option
[2013-05-22 12:47:28] /Applications/MacMiner.app/Contents/Resources/cgminer/cgminer: --scrypt: unrecognized option

An XT1900 is too old for mining but if you've got them both you can do what I do and run the monitor through the old card to get more mining power on the 5770!

and yes.. very good point! I have read though somewhere that an xt1900 will work to mine on a PC its just not the best kind like the nvidia cards being much slower? or is it they just wont work at all and should stop trying? I have an open slot in a slower pc mining setup that was hoping to ramp up with this by somehow flashing to a BIOS but since I have never done that procedure and can't find instructions from going from mac to PC then I may just stick with your plan of using it as the monitor card. The reason I switched to a 5770 recently was the fact that FinalCutProX updates stopped working on the x1900 which forced me to get the 5770. Because this mac is also a edit machine I am really only mining on it half of the day when it is not being used so switching monitors to the old card wouldn't mess being able to still use FCPX right? I guess only one way to find out. One last GPU ?..When i installed the 1900XT back into the mac pro it popped up with some PCI Lane Width options for the 4 slots..you wouldnt happen to know which options I select? The Image looked like this: http://km.support.apple.com/library/APPLE/APPLECARE_ALLGEOS/HT2838/HT2838_1.jpg

If you need the actual screenshot of my options let me know. Does it matter that i put them i slot 1 and 3? or does the 2nd need to go in 2? does it matter? right now the 5770 is on #1 with a 16x lane width and 1900XT on port 3 with a 4x Lane Width I believe..so many variables! thanks for helping me out Smiley Not much info about osx gpu's out there...

My p2pool seems to be running right below the server's memory limit most of the time and bitcoind crashed while I was asleep probably because of that, I've lowered the max connections for bitcoind and if it's still not stable I'll upgrade it. Thanks for testing it!
Just started your pool up and it seems to be running great at the moment..will keep it going on here for a bit for the BTC Smiley

Figure my machines arent the most powerful so really no point in trying to get into the BTC mining at this late in the game with ASICs popping out any day. Which was my motivation to switch to LTC before everyone else did and get a little head start. So mainly trying to mine Litecoin but still trying to get that 1 BTC before all hell breaks loose with the ASICS. Only .07 to go Wink

Can't mine with anything less than HD3000?/4000 series.

Is it like NVIDIA where its not worth mining or it actually won't work due to some opencl issue, etc? Would love to be able to do something with this sitting duck if possible whether it be on Mac or pc..thanks for your help!
255  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: The official MacMiner thread on: May 22, 2013, 12:17:20 AM
where or how do I go about adding the scrypt option? In the CgMiner options field or in a file somewhere else?

ah yes you'll need a space and then the --scrypt option, and you might want to play with -I 4 (intensity (number) goes from -10 to 14 and the higher the harder it works. I think around 8/9 is about as high as I'd ever push the same card. also the -w 64 option try 64/128 see what works best for you.

150Khash sounds about right for LTC mining… 150Mhash sounds about right for BTC mining… although it can get a bit faster

Mining BTC now on your Cgminer is working perfectly thru your pool as well as others like BitMinter, etc with your help Smiley Thank you! If only it would recognize the XT1900 now but we are at least off to a working start!  win
256  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: The official MacMiner thread on: May 21, 2013, 11:26:00 PM
I should of mentioned I am LTC mining here. Do I need to add any more options besides -T to make litemining work in Cgminer? A little over a week into mining and learning command line so not total newbie but pretty much still one. If I use GuiMiner OpenCL miner I get about 150 mhash/s when connecting to this LTC pool on a Radeon 5770..does that sound right?
257  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: The official MacMiner thread on: May 21, 2013, 11:06:20 PM
no shares accepted via 3333 so going back to 9332 port and this is how it starts using -T option:

 [2013-05-21 16:04:26] Started cgminer 2.11.4
[2013-05-21 16:04:26] Probing for an alive pool
 [2013-05-21 16:04:27] Long-polling activated for http://mining.usa.la.hypernova.pw:9332/lp

then just stops? Now i see it says starting cgminer 2.11.4? I have had no luck compiling a 3.1.1 for Lion at this time.. maybe thats the issue?
258  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: The official MacMiner thread on: May 21, 2013, 11:00:25 PM
!!! -T made a huge difference. Not sure where I missed reading to add that command. Thank you. For the pool i am using the 9332 longpool port started up then a few seconds later just stopped? I then put in their Stratum 3333 port and we are going now with :

I am new to flashing a GPU but that seems to be what needs to be done to make use of this card. I have a perfectly good ATI Radeon XT1900 that I would love to put into one of my older pc's to help mine but its current state is the MAC format/edition. Anyone have any knowledge of going from MAC to PC in flashing? Will this actually work?
