Thanks, I am going to take your advice. I sent an email to them to see if they would hold the $$$ in a smart contract, meaning if they didn't deliver, they wouldn't get the money..... I got crickets back from them. They may be legit, but I am think maybe not. Wait and see......
Here is a link to a discussion on these.  Seems like there are people believing its real and others that do not.  Go figure.

Thanks for the three blocks the past two days!   Smiley
I believe this brings our BTC per day per TH to 0.00021501, 36% over last month.  Pretty awesome considering our size is less than 25% what we were last month.  Even if we had no other blocks for the rest of the month, we will still be 13% better than last month.  Mine on and thanks to Kano and the rest of the Kano family!

If you report your bitcoin mining to the IRS, you're a moron.  If there were a TV game show where the smartest people got voted off the island, you would win, hands down.  Jeff Probst would invite you back for Moron Island All Stars.
Everyone has their viewpoint, and yes, as I have mentioned before - the whole concept is that BTC is decentralized and hard to track.  if you use your earnings to buy equipment and other things directly with BTC, the likelihood of being caught is virtually non-existent - yet.  If you ever send your earnings to popular exchanges or into your financial institution as US Dollars, I would expect that reporting is already happening.  I have friends that recently got bit from unreported earnings through paypal in 2015 which was kindof surprising.  "Big Brother" is watching in so many ways (likely these forum posts even).  Anyway, my wife has said that crypto is more like gambling - and ignoring your tax liability is just another form of it - whether it be virtual currency or that side job.  I just feel that the odds of winning that battle are far worse than going to a casino in the long term.

But all this said, everyone must come to their own conclusions!  And as far as being stupid, you are 100% right because the more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.  And besides, I have always felt that an island getaway should be stress-free rather than full of drama.....

Super smart option.  So can you do smart contracts with BTC or is it just Ethereum?

I am interested in buying these miners, forum please provide any insight into these. Many thanks.

I looked at those too. It is tricky to know what are scams and what is legit. I have had a couple instances of scams  on eBay and fortunately I asked lots of questions before I pulled the trigger which scared then off.  Sending wire transfers to China is pretty tough in the crypto world and no matter how you pay, there is no way to get your money back if the vendor does not return it themselves. And waiting till March delivery is a long time to be without your money that may be gone  for good. Ask questions if you can and good luck with it.

As a former bank examiner, that's my understanding. While the US Treasury recognizes BTC as a currency, it is "virtual" until it's negotiated. That can be via buying online and paying via Bitpay, or exchanging to a bank. I report when I sell BTC to Bitpay to go on the debit card. While I don't wish to argue with someone's CPA, I think it's a bit ludicrous to try to figure a tax liability on something as volatile as BTC at ANY given point in time, and call it "tax debt." I know three people who actually work at IRS who have told me up front that the agency really doesn't have BTC...or any other coin...under even basic understanding. Their focus is collecting tax, and they want to get it at the earliest possible moment. We'll have to see, I guess.

Re knowing the various exchange rates...here's a good place.

Thanks so much FireTreeActual.  Nice to have another respected opinion (mine is not by the way - I'm still learning).  It makes sense that BTC is not real because it all could be gone tomorrow with the wrong circumstances.  My accountant did tell me that tax/accounting issues are in their infancy and subject to a lot of change.  And as I mentioned, it is pretty hard for tracking to happen.  I have seen the exchanges starting to require more info, so I suspect moves are being made by the IRS to "collect" as much tax as they can.

My feeling is that having a consistent approach and making an effort to report some income will go a long way to keeping "the man" from taking a heavy handed tax / penalty approach later on.  Could it be that mining is supposed to be reported as income as it occurs since the power would be written off?  If anyone is like me, my BTC holdings will most certainly go longer than the year it was mined.

I asked my accountant of almost 30 years and he shared the following document that I posted on our forum at minergain dot com under the MinerGain Forum › Getting Started With Crypto › Investing In Bitcoin, Ethereum and other AltCoins area.  It directly covers mining rewards as immediate income (power and equipment can be subtracted as costs of course).  It does seem that buying and selling the currency has a few more gray areas - which I have chosen to use the method Sierra8561 described for those.  I would post a link here but it would probably be removed.

Also, you can sign up for a free account and add your kanopool api information under the pools section.  I do not have the miner monitoring happening yet, but the real time currency tracking has been active for about 2 weeks (current details shown on home page).  I have also brought in lifetime prices for BTC and ETH already.  Since my plan is to offer this is free forever, I am doing this in my spare time, so it is a little bit slow - but should be done well before the end of the year since I need it.  Once tracking is active, I will send an email to everyone who is registered.  I will also have an import of your kano rewards created soon as well since that is not shared via the API.

Block! by miner3311 Cheesy
Welcome to the acclaim board Cheesy
Yeah for waking up to a block this morning.  If my daily math calculations are right (which is actually through the end of 11/24), we are at .00020386 BTC per Day per TH which is 29% better than last month even though we are about 1/5th the size.

I have a question for anyone willing to share.  According to the US Tax Authorities, blocks should be reported as income when they are earned or when they are paid (your choice as long as it is consistent).  Although this obviously is hard for anyone to track, but I am going to report this to reduce the chance of issues with my other crypto investments that is harder to report (little piggy is cute / big piggies get slaughtered).

As part of that, I am building in historical prices so any of us can import rewards and the system will give you the US dollar (tether) value based on the average price for the day it was found.  Going forward, it will have up to the minute BTC prices.  I am going to build in international currency tables as well and would like to know which currencies people have interest in and how far back I should go.  I have a data source that will give daily values for 166 currencies going forward.  I have another with history for 2017 for these currencies: AUD, BRL, CAD, CNY, EUR, HKD, INR, IDR, JPY, MYR, MXN, NZD, NOK, PEN, RUB, SAR, SGD, ZAR, KRW, SEK, CHF, TWD, THB, TRY, GBP, USD, VND.

First off, is anyone interested in this at all?  Secondly, would you like a currency other than these?  Third, does anyone need this data before 2017?

Might be the DDoS/restart?
THt was about 4:10am UTC to 4:35
CkMonitor does issue a notice every time your server restarts and is between their 5 minute check-in time.

and of course when was the last time you noticed a DDoS on my web site ... they aren't rare, just rarely have an effect Smiley
In this case I just have a command I wrote to deal with it, that doesn't stop anyone using the site except logging in.
Kano, do you have memcached running on your site?  how much ram is there?  My strandvision site has a home built ddos system using memcached (so it is fast) that auto slows all non important requests if the server load gets too high.  It also counts hits from each class c ip address range.  If it exceeds the max per minute hits, then the system instantly dies (for that ip address) for a day.  If they do not visit again for a minute, the memory is released.  I do have white lists for paying customers to prevent issues.  Anyway it sounds like you do not have issues with it, but if you do, this type of system does not take long to implement.  PM me if you would like details.

I have not received payment yet either.  Block hit over 24 hours ago. I am in no rush I haven’t touched any of my payments from Kano in over three months but it normally doesn’t take this long
I am still a bit green, but my philosophy has been to assume that you will receive all payments for blocks with 101+ confirmations within minutes of the Kano family finding the next block.  Look at the Pool / Blocks page to see the number of confirmations.  Since we are a lower hash rate, be prepared for several days and perhaps a week or more before you see it in your wallet - then be pleasantly surprised if someone else picks it up during their mining.
253  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [25+PH] KanoPool kano.is NO FEE TIL 2018 PPLNS US,DE,SG,JP,NL,NYA 🐈 on: November 20, 2017, 01:29:12 PM
Well yes, that’s the way it works.  If it took you to let’s say 10 Days to ramp up your hash rate then you will still be getting payed for the next 10 days even if you shut off your miners completely, for each block found.  It’s just that it will be less and less for each block during those 10 days.  That’s why when we got the rewards for the last block it said pool n average is still like 35ph when it has been less than that for a while now.  So we just paying off the miners that have left a while back.  That’s how I understand it anyway. Smiley. It’s very nice to have a system like that as long as there will be blocks found within those 10 days after you shut off.  Lol Cheesy
So it is the share that gets split into 5 pieces and distributed - not the reward.  That helps.  I am logging the hash rate and shares each minute from the Kano home page as well as individual miner info reported when someone decides to share the api code.  I am pretty sure that is enough to "brute force" calculate the 5nd rate but I am not totally clear when to drop a 1/5th portion of the share since the time changes both for difficulty and total hash rate for the moment.  I am starting to think that I am 'overthinking it' since it may just be as saving the share amount and time, 1/5th to be contributed immediately towards a reward and the rest of that share distributed after all the 1/5th chunks from everyone has exceeded the current difficulty.  Then the next 1/5th starts in and so on till all 5 chunks has been used.  Is that kindof the concept?  If I can figure it out well enough, I am going to try to estimate the 5nd hash rate for the pool and possibly even the reward at this exact moment time based these hash rates and a "guess" of which transactions are included.  Obviously I will never have an accurate reward value but may get close.  Is it accurate that this information is not anywhere on the site or am I missing it?

If my math is right, this put us at roughly .00020406 BTC per day per TH which is 29% better than last month.

No pool fees for the rest of 2017
And it is only 0.9% after that - the lowest that I've been able to find for a well established long term pool!

Hey, kano-san, could you please officially announce the no-fee promotion in a different post with no other info, so that I could announce it to some Russian-speaking communities and give a link to it? Some big guys don't speak English but probably will get interested in a no-fee offer.
I will also add the announcement to my small set of readers

You mean set the mining pool on the Priority 1 of my antminer configuration? Oh I should have do that just now haha, I didnt know what it was for Tongue
I am in the US, so I have two Kano ones setup and Slush as the final backup.  Some people also have said that they set the final up to solo mining.  I have not figured that one out yet.  In any case, set the first to the one closest to you (fastest ping time) and the second one is more of an automatic discovery one.

This update of the DB code includes the full hashing and block checking of every share that KanoDB gets from the pool code and submitting all blocks it finds also.

So basically this duplicates the most important part of the pool code - but, as I've mentioned, it's all new code written by me so it gives a full independent 2nd verification of the shares and blocks.
I cannot imagine all that is involved with getting a pool setup in the first place, but it is amazing that you understand it enough re-verify every share.  I actually tried to "dig into" how sha256 works thinking that if the first part of the hash mechanism could be "cached" until it gets to the parts that are different for every calculation.  I suspect that the changing values are probably sent to be hashed first, then there is no caching opportunity anyway.  Anyway, I quickly got overloaded (did not have the multiple days needed to let it sink in).  And of course if I did figure it out, then I would have to spend weeks to learn how to "mod" my s9 which is not worth it to lose all the revenue.  Anyway, a huge bow to you Kano and we are honored to be "working" with / for you.

I might have it off. I did a search for it and all I found was fork was canceled. Too many supposed forks.
So true I am amazed at the number of forks. Impossible to keep track of our all easily. Thank goodness for a committed group like the kano miners.
