Please tell me this guy who was submitting non valid shares did not get paid for this?  Ie as part of the pool finding blocks.

If he did, please let all the hackers know his IP address. :-P

I was curios to know the amount of data 1 S9 used.. So I looked on the stats on my switch.  This was for 1 full week of 24/7 mining ( I think there was a power cycle but nothing major)

This is on the Switch port for 1 S9

   Bytes Transmitted: 508 638 552   Downloaded
Packets Transmitted: 6328715

   Bytes Received: 1 278 968 648      Uploaded
Packets Received: 5944259

Was looking to see if I can use a cellular backup in case internet connection goes down.

Those numbers above were for a full 7 days.
Well the packet count to and from the pool is pretty simple:

All data coming and going is well under 4kb so never be more than a single packet.

Shares sent (and a reply):
18 shares a minute * 60 mins * 24 hrs * 7 days = 181,440 packet sent and replied.

Work received (and a reply):
2 work per minute * 60 mins * 24 hrs * 7 days = 20,160 packets received and replied.

So that says about 200k packets sent and received per week.
Hmm I wonder what the other ~400k packets are that you're seeing ...

Monitoring? Firmware updates? Bitmain hidden code? Smiley

As for the amount of data:
A share is about 190 bytes sent to the pool (for a 15 byte user+worker name) and a 92 byte reply.
Work is a bit under 1400 bytes received from the pool and a 52 byte reply.

So using those numbers:
181,440 * 190 + 20,160 * 52 = 35,521,920 or a bit under 36Mb sent to the pool a week per miner.
and
20,160 * 1400 + 181,440 * 92 = 44,916,480 or a bit under 45Mb received from the pool a week per miner.

I think there is quite a lot of non-pool traffic in your numbers.

I realized after I read your post...  Yeah, I have two instances of Awesome miner monitoring the S9's  So my Big Data on them is probably mostly from there! I also did do firmware upgrades on a couple.    Haha  Funny..  I should sniff the network and see if there is a bitmain hidden code!  Their firmware isn't the most up to date on their website..  so Might be something I'll check into.  Sniff Sniff....

You must love numbers...  That was alot of math :-P

i'd really like to know why they jumped from 1415USD that I paid for them to 2320usd now.  I was reading on another thread they think these last batches that came out early was some older ones they re-conditioned.  Had the issues with the fan ramping up and down, and some other details that were very similar to the early s9's that had same issues.  I have not owned any before, but I do know that 2 of the 4 that I had received had different fans on them, and they were not the same as each other also.  I wondered about that.  but the other two had the same fan ( with yellow sticker) as the first s9 i got back in November.

Something is going on with it. _ I really wonder why the firmware of Nov 15 that is on a couple of the new S9's is not on their website. They still have Aug 15 there.  Strange......

Increase in difficulty hurts everyone on the network and the same % for all hashing power. The mining calculator for monthly(30 day) BTC earn at H hasing power:
[...]

Well said.

The only part that I'd add is the pool has to grow at least as fast as difficulty does, else variance will get worse.  Ideally faster to reduce the likelihood of blocks from hell.

M

We need a recruitment effort. IMHO...
Agreed, it would be nice to increase Hash at twice the Diff increase. I personally am going to buy the new Canaan A8 miners when they come out this month. All will be pointed at KANO. If each miner in the Pool would add 10% mining capacity..... we are there.

I'd be interested if users on this pool had priority on the sales even if the supply is short?  Knudge knudge wink wink....  I'll find a way to power and cool them.  I'll even upgrade to a 200 amp service at my house if I have to. I'll even heat the neighbors houses for free in the winter! If they can stand the noise  haha

246  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: January 01, 2018, 11:12:32 AM
Well I just noticed Bitmain changed my Dec 21-30 batch order to Jan 11-20! Wtf

Oddly enough my order, actually 4 separate orders of  1x S9's that was supposed to be delivered Jan 21-30... I got early.  Dec 27.   The orders were put in in the last week of November and first week of December.  I wasn't going to complain.  I thought someone canceled a big order so more became available.  Even another guy I know locally here got his and he ordered his after me, and got it a few days after me.  His was supposed to be Jan 21-30 as well.  If I knew they were going to be that quick I would have ordered more.

They did ship all 4 of mine within 1 or 2 days of each other.. It was over Chritmas, so i ended up getting them all on the same day.  27th.

So I ordered a pair of S9's a couple months ago, due to be delivered late Jan.

While searching for a pool i came across this thread.  I've been following along for a couple weeks now and have been rooting for ya'll to get some blocks.  When you hit these last 2 I was so pumped for you guys.  I can't wait to join the fun.

Happy New Year!

IF you were waiting for 2 months for a S9 to be delivered, you may want to contact the person.  Was it through bitmain directly?  I ordered 4 from end of Nov to about Dec 10, and they were supposed to be Jan 21 - 30 delivery, but I got them early.  Dec 27 Actually.

Congrats on the block. I might have a new miner coming in soon, does it also have to go through the ramp up period?

Yup, the ramp up process is still there when you add another one.  Its up hill.. then when you get to the top, its a little bumpy, depending what the block rewards are, but you will come out ahead of any other pool.  Here you get those transaction fees rewarded to miners.  Plus its the lowest fee of 0.9 percent ( 0.0 ) until 2018, which is a few hours, but hey, where else do you see that kind of stuff in the bitcoin world.....

I started with 1 S9 on Dec 10, and just a few days ago got another 4.  I thought it was a good way to heat my house and garage. :-)  What kind of heater PAYS you to use it?

FYI The easiest way it can be explained, that I can think of is, that red area on the Workers Shift graph is a moving window.  You get paid on the percentage of the shares you contributed to the total.  So just hover your mouse over the left side, and you will see the date at when the window starts.  if you were mining on that day and time, you are ramped up.  If you started somewhere between then and now, your average is less over that full period of time.  BUT never fear, if you stop mining at kano ( and you know you WON'T :-)  you get that ramp down the same way the ramp up was.  Except the percentage of the shares for the period was going down, so the payouts will decrease as that " window " passes.

Hope that made sense.

you know its a good block when the one before it didn't have the 100 Confirmations yet. Guess that means the payout for both will be on the next block.

But hey... I don't think anyone would complain if we get a block all the time before that 100 confirmations is done for the previous one  Right?  :-P

I just got a call from our natural gas supplier wanting to do a "safety check" on our gas meter. I am guessing they are wondering why I am using so much less natural gas this season. Hopefully they will understand I am currently heating with HASHPOWER. LOL.

AHHAAHHA  THEY CANNOT actually by law do that.  They are disguising it as a safety check, but in reality it is to check for a grow op.  I would tell them to  -------->  O  I know you are doing nothing wrong, but then they know what value is in there, I just say, nope, the gas pipes are fine, no leaks, I am safe.

Just say you have a bunch of servers that create heat, that's why the gas usage went down.  I am sure the laws are the same or similar.   Here if a public utility person sees a grow op, they have to report it, on the flip side they are not allowed to enter a property to look for that, OR to mislead a person to let them into a property to look for something, like safety issue, and then find a grow op.  So the question arises -  HOW and WHY now did the safety check issue ever come up, since there was never one before.  If they had a history of doing real safety checks every 2 - 5 years, then maybe, but in this case I would give them the run around just because of my privacy.

Funny, I think there is more interest in Seattle server than ever!

Hey Kano,

I do currently use a single IP, however it is dynamic.  It vary rarely changes, like every two years.  I can either set up the new server as pool 0, and NYA as pool 1 as the backup incase my ip changes on me.  The other option I have is to make a VLAN for the miners and route the traffic out my static IP. ( this is different than the IP my miners are connecting from now)

Up to you, I know milliseconds matter, but as to how much for the bitcoin network, I have no knowledge how much it affects it.

I could ping it and see the differences, maybe PM me the IP address or host name if you want me to test it?

Thanks

I too am switching from stratum.kano.is to nya.kano.is   12-15 ms faster ping times. on NYA.
Might get a block because of this!

Where are the two physically located? Just wondering why its so much faster.

Stratum is West coast US, NYA is NewYork (East US) - the nya name is the sound a cat makes in Japanese vs meow Smiley
I did a tracert and found that it seems to be California.  I am actually closer to that than new York. I am in Southern Alberta.  Guess the fiber is faster to the east.

Seattle and Vancouver servers ( Other voip servers) i get 30 ms ping times.  Not sure why from there to California its that much slower.  Could be a data center specific issue.

  7    31 ms    31 ms    32 ms  be4476.ccr21.sea02.atlas.cogentco.com [38.88.252.161]

Yup after seattle its slow, 30ms then to 52 to San francisco and San jose.

Glad I fixed it.

my estimated next difficulty calculation :  1 890 290 596 971    0.92%    18/01/01 10:50

will probably end up between 1.0-2.5%

Any other estimates ?

Based on the prior blocks in this difficulty round, it's currently 9.88 mins between blocks.

That puts the next difficulty around 1,895,655,751,456.57, or about 1.2% increase.  Scheduled for the wee hours in the morn of the first day of 2018 (US mountain time).

M

Bashful or   -----   Hashful? :-)

I am trying.. got up to about 70TH/s just yesterday.

DID YOU KNOW - That 4 S9 antminers heat up a 25x25 foot garage from 5 deg to 21 in about 6 hours?  I have 4 in there, and one in my house.  I think i will move a couple more in the house.  I should note that it was -25 deg C outside as well.  Still devising a plan to deal with the heat from them in the summer!

At the time of writing this, there is 99 hours on the wall - since the last block.

99 hours on the wall, add one more.... 100 hours onthe wall.....

Network:     55m 1s (501394)  WOW, a 55 minute block and counting.

that is good, we dont want the difficulty to go up Smiley
That means nothing moves within the Bitcoin Network for and Hour? WOW

A 63 minute and change block. Incredible. Whoever found that one, I bet it was loaded with fees.

Edit: Nope it wasn't VIABTC found it and it only had  13.81417276 BTC

Interesting.
OH, I am not the only one watching who wins blocks?
You picked one block prior to the long block...

It was BTC.com and 23.26222679 BTC as reward..  I Cried.  I should of been solo-ing...  With that long I actually stood a chance.. well, maybe just a bit. :-)

So Interesting fun fact.  My new S9's some have firmware from July, while others have firmware from Nov 17, and a version like S9_V2.54   But on their website, they only have the newest from Aug 15..  Now Why would they not have the newest one on there?  I had an issue with the first S9 I got like a month ago, with fan speed ramping constantly, the firmware fixed that so it stayed on more consistent.  So Now I am baffled if I should overwrite the Nov 17 with the Aug 15 that had better fan control.

Any opinions?

This kinda sux.
3 of the 4 S9's are in my city, at the DHL center, cleared customs, and one is on plane departed Hong Kong.  But what is the worst part is that DHL isn't open to allow me to pick it up today!!

Sad   Its only noon. I have time to devise a plan for extraction today!   haha  Any ideas?

Maybe ask RWBY Yang to come along and help you get into the building?
She seems pretty good at breaking (into) stuff with her fists Smiley

I decided to wait...  Not worth getting locked up :-)
I put a hold for pickup, so I don't have to wait all day, ill just go in and pick it up myself.  Less stress than..... When is it going to come.....
