241  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [AИN] NXT Lite - Official discussion Page - Announces - Branding - Logo Design on: May 02, 2014, 08:38:43 PM
I see a debate is starting!

Node or NodeCoin!

My opinion is that Nodecoin is more relevant! as it refers to a coin! As just node sounds confusing "Node" - very ambiguous as it might refer to a programming structure!

But i'm curious what you guys are thinking!

Necessary to make a vote, I like the 2 options "Node" and "NodeCoin". in the second case more understandable for users

Maybe we can start off with Nodecoin and later on drop the coin.
242  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [AИN] NXT Lite - Official discussion Page - Announces - Branding - Logo Design on: May 02, 2014, 01:15:50 PM

Got you covered! We are on this idea! The name change is just a detail! We will organize a campaign in the next days! Also i see that there is not a single person that will disagrees, so green light!

NodeCOIn it will be!

About the market place, thanks to node we can embed this functionality into the client! Thanks god for the modularity!

Since it is you idea, how are imagining the branding campaign, or how do you think we should make this public?

Thank you!

Nice.
Don't make it Nodecoin though. Just Node.

This is an awesome idea!
The only way I would love this more was if the game was folding proteins.

I am confused as what is going on here? When do we get paid for our stake? Do I need to download the wallet now and send a pm so I can get my coins? I have paid over 0.2 in this PO so am a bit confused now as to where we stand? Smiley

Download the wallet and get an address: email or pm BitOffer with your receiving address. Also make sure you get access to member section in forums.
BitOffer is updating the OP of this thread.

We dont want to run out of hoc, but we want the coins we paid for... Is there a plan and a date to shoot us the coins. Seriously, it was suppose to be really fast, we are loosing players now so hurry up !!

Hi Skatebird:

If you go to the members section on the HOC forum you can see the list of registered members being updated with their wallet and BTC contributions.
I can see you listed there with your contribution. Have no fear.

When are we suppossed to get coins? Any news about beginning the process of getting coins and voting?

I can vouch for the admin/BitOffer actively working on getting the coins out. I have been getting emails clarifying my account numbers etc.
249  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HOC] ★ HouseofCoins | Community | Business | Power on: April 30, 2014, 11:05:50 AM
Jacqul no one doubts the validity of the concept of HOC. I've been royally fucked out of 1btc and many more have lost a lot too. That is not the point. The concept, in the hands of an honest person, would have been quite profitable.

All of this BS about coins will be paid, then the ANN changes, coins refused to be released, and refunds have to go for a vote of the House when there is no House since coins have not been released.........private IRC chatrooms for "insiders", an open willingness to vote to simply steal investors money, and all the rest of it........RUN! Don't walk, RUN! away from this scam.

Xardas, I agree we are in a delicate situation at the moment and I guess it will all hinge on what happens over the next few days.
As I understand it the plan is to distribute coins and then take it further from there.
I know you have asked for a refund and I support you in getting it as soon as possible. Maybe you will get involved again at a later stage once we have proved the concept.

(Thanks for posting that link to that girl singing by the way, that was pretty cool to watch!)

Great work!

I'm copying over a post from the official forums to show some of the thinking going on regarding the possibilities of this coin:

Quote

Business plan
« on: April 27, 2014, 10:08:29 PM »
Here is my simple business strategy to use HOC to consolidate the altcoin world:

With our investment we start a mining farm.
We mine the hell out of alt coins raising difficulty and causing havoc. (Let's use Doge as an example.)
Then we sell the Doge for HOC.. like 100 000dog:1hoc (or whatever).
This will drop the price of Doge and increase the price of HOC which means more people will point their miners to HOC, strengthening the network and making it even easier for us to mine the alts.
Once we have dropped the value of an alt enough, we move on to the next.
The HOC we bought goes into the bank.
-This can then be used to pay dividends to members or it can be used to sell more membership seats, raising more capital to buy more miners.

In this way House of Coins will become the House of ALL altcoins, weeding the garden of the altcoin world, taking the best additions and strengthening the network.

As a side effect HOC will be worth a lot (which is fitting for the important work it is doing).

If we can can incorporate a voting system based on % shares owned into the wallet then HOC will take center stage as a platform for innovation.

In the future, while we are on the path to consolidating the altcoin world, we can direct the business arm of the House to the challenge of bringing alternative currency to the masses.

The only problems I can see with this plan is on how we can have a trustless system regarding the bank administration. This could potentially be solved with a form of escrow.
For example: someone with means hosts the minerfarm but puts the value of the miners in escrow. For going through this hassle they get a % of the funds raised as an income.
If they suddenly disappear with the miners (sorry about my cynicism but Gox is fresh in my memory), their funds in escrow are forfeit and the system can carry on.

In my opinion the problem that cryptocurrency and Bitcoin solves is one of communication. We want to use this evolved form of communication as a platform and experiment for business.
With the IPO we have initial funds for investment. By following a plan (as above for example) we can effectively create a profit turning business. With the coins representing shares and thus a vote, we can get diverse input and then consensus by vote on which direction to go. Decisions grown from diversity will always trump solitary opinion.

As you can see there are alternatives to going POS. POW might actually be better in the medium run since it will get more people involved.

Obviously there is some pressure to let this coin go the same way previous ones have but there are numerous shit coins flooding the market and causing confusion.

The difference with HOC is basically 2 things:

1. The vote:
If we can develop the wallet (or build a website interface) to incorporate the vote and make it transparent and effortless, this will be a major step ahead in the world of cryptocurrency. Although that is something for the future, we can already start voting as per the ANN plan, using the forum as our platform.
I expect that in the future, people who buy into the coin will be able to accrue enough coin to be eligible for a vote.

2. The bank:
If the funds can be used in an effective way (using it for mining and trading is the obvious first thing that comes to mind) and it can be shown that the directives from the vote can be carried out in professional way, this will grow confidence in HOC and the community. In tandem with growing confidence, the value of the coin itself will grow. This means that the next public offering will be more successful leading to a positive feedback loop.

In summary: we are only a few days after the launch and IPO and in my opinion everything has gone as expected and I am happy with where we are now.
Thanks BitOffer for updating the first page of this thread and letting us know the progress.
Keep up the good work, I am excited about the potential and underlying purpose of this coin and the House of Coins.

Now offering escrow for this project. Read the following carefully before sending

The way this works is that I will create an address specifically for this project. If you wish to use my escrow for this project you will have to send to that address. I will receive the coins and hold onto them until I receive explicit instructions from you on where to send them. If you want me to send them anywhere other than the address they came from than I will require those instructions to be digitally signed by one of the addresses you sent from. This means only send from an address that you control i.e. satoshi client on your desktop. DO NOT SEND DIRECTLY FROM AN EXCHANGE, IF YOU DO THAN YOU WILL LOSE YOUR BITCOINS. I know this may sound a bit confusing but its actually quite simple and I will be here to walk you through the process if you need help. My fees are 0.02BTC or 0.9% which ever is greater and it will be taken off the top when ever i release or refund those coins.

If these terms seem suitable to you than you may send to the following address when ever you are ready.

1BRiE92c3xUydN1TZ6EqKrFrEgD95Amf22

Keep in mind that I am using the blockchain for all of my accounting so you don't actually need to tell me that you are sending or have sent but it may be smart to let the developers know that you are using my escrow.

For the people feeling insecure: don't forget about your friendly neighborhood escrow service.
Still more than an hour to go.

Esteemed Members of the House (and future members):

The origin of symbols fascinate me and I have been thinking on how credits/votes/coins from the House of Coins would be called and represented.

I am not sure how many people have wondered why we use $ for dollars. To me it has always looked like a snake on a stick. On reading up about it, it seems that I am not the only person who made that connection.
From Wikipedia:
Greek mythology
...the dollar sign may have also originated from Hermes, the Greek god of bankers, thieves, messengers, and tricksters. One of his symbols was the caduceus, a staff from which ribbons or snakes dangled in a sinuous curve.

There are other theories as well but since this is the sign of tricksters and bankers, I find this interpretation appealing. (Hermes=Mercury, mercantile and merchants, it is all related.)

Effectively the coins from House of Coins represent a vote and shares in how the bank will be used. (At this stage seems likely to be a mining venture.)
Since it is a system of bartering I have been considering an appropriate symbol to represent this.

Many cultures used and still use livestock as an primary unit for bartering. In some African cultures you still pay for your wife in cows. Wikipedia: "A cow in Zimbabwe costs $500 and the brides family can ask for a cash equivalent of the number of cows they want.' The basic unit is cows and the cash is representative of the cow.
With this in mind (something more worthwhile than the dollar, something on which the $ is based rather than the other way around, a primal element for bartering) I wanted to find a symbol to represent this.

The first letter of the alphabet came to mind. Alpha.. or rather Aleph.

Wikipedia:

The name aleph is derived from the West Semitic word for "ox", and the shape of the letter derives from a Proto-Sinaitic glyph based on a hieroglyph
which depicts an ox's head.

In Modern Standard Arabic, the word أليف /ʔaliːf/ literally means 'tamed' or 'familiar', derived from the root |ʔ-l-f|, from which the verb ألِف /ʔalifa/ means 'to be acquainted with; to be on intimate terms with'.[1] In modern Hebrew, the same root |ʔ-l-f| (alef-lamed-peh) gives me’ulaf, the passive participle of the verb le’alef, meaning 'trained' (when referring to pets) or 'tamed' (when referring to wild animals); the IDF rank of Aluf, taken from an Edomite title of nobility, is also cognate.

The connotations of bartering, ownership and nobility seem to fit.
For a symbol, the Phoenician Aleph is an attractive one:
