The FAQ says never to use sudo. You should be logging in as the root user. You will need to set passwords for both root and user.
You should also mention using coldreboot instead of the normal reboot command.
Will update in a min Thanks for pointing that out Stupid faq, says not to use sudo yet you need to sudo to get the root pw set :@ If you are logged in as root, you can just use 'passwd' to change the pass. I ssh in as root, then 'passwd' and then 'passwd user' But if the root password is not set, how do you log in? kinda chicken and egg eh? bamt autologins as root but if its a headless unit! you are provided the password, otherwise you would be attached to another object by an inclined plane wrapped helically around an axis

I have been running some of my rigs @ 1.00V. Nice drop in power consumption. As FPGA miners start making the price/difficulty ratio to fall (network gets more efficient) I think the 5970s are a great card because you can keep dropping voltage (and clocks) to boost efficiency and expand their longevity. The bad news is that you make less gross hashes the good news is that you can keep mining even with really old hardware. man i never thought about that before, what is the lowest (highest?) undervolt you have achieved? and at what clocks?

2 x 5970s + 3 x 5850s Motherboard MSI 790FX-GD70 CPU PHenomII x4 965 (i know, it was a combo deal) BAMT 0.5 cgminer 2.3.1-2 #01 core: 750MHz mem: 250MHz Vddc: 1.0 Volts Temps: 66ºC hashrate: 690MH/s
#02 core: 725MHz mem: 250MHz Vddc: 1.0 Volts Temps: 66ºC hashrate: 666MH/s
They were working on windows until i installed the third 5850, then the whole rig kept BSODing so i installed BAMT instead

5970s undervolted mostly because of fear of overheating or sudden death
core: 750Mhz mem: 250Mhz Vddc: 1.000V Temp: 66ºC Hashrate: 690MH/s
i have one that won't mine at 750 core so i leave it at 725, the rest is the same , oh the hashrate drops to 666MH/s

i mean, i typed this in bamt.conf: start_mining_init_delay: 30 cgminer: 1 cgminer_opts: --api-listen -o pool:port -u user -p pass -I 9 (and a lot more options about the clocks and volts in 7 gpus) cgminer_port: 4028 and in every gpu i also typed a new line GPU0 disabled: 0 cgminer: 1 . . .
|
|
|
modified bamt.conf
cgminer: before the GPUs section and on each GPU cgminer_opts: --api-listen -o pool:port -u user -p pass cgminer_port: default, don't remember which one
i just added this line after the 3 above and it worked, had to wait 30 secs for the api to "catch up" start_mining_init_delay: 30

is there any information to read about cgsnoop? i'm trying to figure out how it works and what does it do

hi loadcrappo, great work with BAMT, i've been using it since yesterday and i think i'm in love with it, the simplicity rocks! and this is coming from someone who had never experienced linux before Anyhow, i'm having a lot of rejects reported locally but when i check the pool stats (gpumax) they are not reflected there. its like phoenix thinks the pool is rejecting shares when its actually not. when directing shares from gpumax to abcpool it shows like 4% rejects but when i point them to bonuspool (clipse's pool) it shows like 40% rejects and according to the pool stats everything is in order with like 1% rejects. what could be causing this? EDIT: oh no the rejects are real, overnight accumulated over 4k rejected shares on GPUMAX, what could possibly go that wrong as to give me 20% reject rate?EDIT 2: finally changed to cgminer and everything is going smooth now, thanks gigavps

i've been working with ssh in console your method is much more graphic xD
hey, would you mind explaining how to configure bamt.conf to run cgminer instead of phoenix?
|
|
|
same here,
modified bamt.conf
cgminer: before the GPUs section and on each GPU cgminer_opts: --api-listen -o pool:port -u user -p pass cgminer_port: default, don't remember which one
and it still won't start
with phoenix2 the same, it just won't start, apparently my pool has some problem with phoenix i'm having like 40% stales and the pool op knows but won't do anything to help with that "ancient" miner

Those DPS-2000BB power supplies are a nice find.
Only problem I just discovered is that they do not have their own fans. So it will be necessary to hook up some fans to them so they don't overheat and die. Also, the 2000 watt version is less efficient than the 2500 watt version, and the 2500 watt version isn't for sale anywhere that I can find. did you find testing reports? link please

5970 easily gets 800 mhash/s in the hands of anyone that is semi capable in OCing and has a brain. Where the heck you get 1.5x Huh A 5870 gets 440 mhash/s so 1.5*440=660 which is incredibly low for a 5970. A much more realistic value would be 750 mhash/s for a 5970. oh please do tell

Jesus! you guys again with the BFL singles, sure they are pretty efficient but let's face it they are LAME, insipid. I like RJK's spirit he not only has the money to burn on this things but he also is doing it for fun (and space efficiency).
Hehe, I wish I was rich, but I'm having to manage this a little bit tighter (I.E., not buying any more major components for a while ) But yes it is lots of fun playing with this hardware, and I just wish I had more time for it. And money of course. I can't find the datasheet of the PSU i use (DPS-2000 BB) but i found it for a higher wattage model (DPS-2500 BB) and it scores platinum with 91% efficiency so i think mine must be somewhere around that hopefully, when i have the time i will calculate it amperimeter in hand. Holy crap the efficiency curve on that PSU is insane! I'll have to see about getting one to mess with. oh and they are a lot cheaper too, you're welcome

i myself wouldn't be as engaged in bitcoin if it wasn't because of the GPUs, i'm (was?) a gamer and i would've never thought of getting so many GPUs THAT I CAN EXPLAIN/JUSTIFY TO MY WIFE! Man i love this thing, i could be all day long testing Mobos, PCIe Slots, PSUs, measuring stuff, you now what i mean.
Also, say bitcoin crashes tomorrow, god forbid, you end up with your lame boxes doing what, selling SHA-256 brute forcing? good luck with that. I would throw one hell of an HD gaming LAN party if that happens, and sell some GPUs, and give some to my friends/family so they can experience the thing the always hear but never get, or maybe take pictures of me laying down in a bed of GPUs just because i can, sure it would be THE geek sexappeal, or just set up a render farm with some apps that take advantage of Radeons as if they are Fire Gls and sell the service, setup a high-end gaming cafe, and a lot more
Some are here for the money, others are here for the fun, i am here for both

i just buy what gives more bang for my buck
my last Nvidia card was a gtx 295 after that one its been only AMDs, better performance/$ IMO
but if this gtx 600 series are in fact as good as they are saying man i'd sure buy one or more, MY LOYALTY IS TO MY WALLET

+1 on the server psu, i've been using server psus ever since i started mining and i wondered why no one else was doing it
Don't know the pinout for that one though, the ones i use are for IBM blade servers
What is the efficiency of the ones you are using? If they are reasonably efficient, I could use them since you would have a pinout for them already. I'm not stuck to the Dell ones that I have, but they are quite high power for their size which is useful. i honestly don't know since my rigs are very small and i have the cheapest power. i am going to check and get back at you
