One option is you make a node for us but we register our address for the alts

Second option is to keep your dgm, etc fully hiding p2pool which is also fine while adding better difficulty controls

Your first option has the benefits of that if the pool ever went down you could easily switch to another public P2Pool node and keep your hashing score.  While the second option has the benefits of making it easier for smaller miners to use P2Pool.  Which could be a good selling point and this pool does have a lot of small miners.

To get round the latency problems you could possibly offer a few different servers in different geographic locations.  Like say one each in North America, Europe and possibly Asia.

244  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Unfinished CryptoNight OpenCL (AMD) miner on: July 31, 2014, 10:35:06 PM
I'd be happy with Wolf0 having a dev fee as long as the miner was the most efficient.
I do think 5% is a bit much, but I do use Claymore's so...guess it's not too much for me lol.
I also donated directly to Wolf0 all my week's mining with the first stock CPU miner, as I then got around 1.8x faster once I switched and was sooo happy.
Now though, the only profitable method for me is GPU, and I just got some CPUs sitting here idle.

Still messing with the opencl, but there's no point in having a dev fee if it's open source.

If you auto build it into the config how p2pool used to.  Plus built binaries with it already configured I think you'd be surprised by how many miners never actually bother to change it.

There's also the new 802.11ah: WiFi Standard for 900MHz coming out.

Quote
EE Times says the spec aims to support a range of options from throughput of 150 Kbits/s with a 1 MHz band to as much as 40 Mbits/s over an 8 MHz band. Distances supported could be about 50 percent longer than those of the streamlined 802.11n - http://www.dailywireless.org/2013/08/30/802-11ah-wifi-standard-for-900mhz

This may work better for WiFi mesh-networks.

---------

!!! WARNING !!! THIS HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ORIGINAL ZEROCOIN PROJECT AND THE USER IS A SCAMMER WITH NO CLUE OF CRYPTOGRAPHY AT ALL! The user has an activity of 6, nobody knows who he is. Dont buy this shit!

Take a lesson from the scam here:

Stay away if you dont want to lose all your money with that shitcoin! i guess thats the newest thing, that somebody just copies a name from a different project and makes a clone of something. how poor and shady is it that you just copy a name and try to make profit with this?

----------

you can find the real Zerocoin / Zerocash project here which is under development of :

    Eli Ben-Sasson (Technion)
    Alessandro Chiesa (MIT)
    Christina Garman (Johns Hopkins University)
Matthew Green (Johns Hopkins University) <-- google...

see above.

Anoncoin - https://anoncoin.net - has been working on a zerocoin protocol implementation for some time now.  They already have I2p network support and are officially working with the I2p project on a C++ router implementation along with the Monero team - http://monero.cc -  While both those coins had 0% pre-mine.  There is already this project - http://zerocoin.org who have also as well as Anoncoin been working some time on a Zero Knowledge Proof protocol for some time.  I agree this project does look very dubious.
248  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and ham radio on: July 29, 2014, 05:57:04 PM
6 blocks/hr * 1048576 * 8 = 50331648 bits/hr

50331648 bits/hr / 3600 seconds = 13981 bps = 13.981 kbps   (with no additional overhead)

For 7 blocks/hr, 16.311 kbps   (with no additional overhead)

These rates exceed conventionally available AX.25 packet radio / TNC throughputs for HF and VHF ham bands (generally 300 baud FSK for HF, and 1200 baud AFSK or 9600 baud AFSK for VHF/UHF).  Either use of higher frequency bands or a custom modulation format that would tend to have a bandwidth exceeding amateur radio rules in most ITU countries on HF, VHF and UHF frequencies would be needed.  At that point you might as well just set up a 900MHz, 2.4GHz or 5GHz 802.11 link.

Yeah it looks like the full blockchain over HF is a no go'er.  We'd be best supporting the Bitcoins in Space project - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=334701.0 - Or in setting up a project to build a cheap WiFi mesh-networking router that can hold bitcoind.  As even the public PMR446 UHF band only permits 3.6kbit/s per channel.  Although possibly maybe we could use the unlicensed 900MHz 33cm UHF band for a custom mesh-network with better propagation than the 2.4GHz 802.11n.  There's off the shelf license free 802.11g 900MHz 33cm UHF equipment like this - http://www.alvarion.com/products/product-portfolio/breezeaccess/breezeaccess-900 - and this - http://www.xgtechnology.com/xMax-articles/xmax-system-overview.html - That we could attach a cheap lightweight nettop too to hold bitcoind.

I think it'd be worthwhile making the satellite ground station also being HF tranceiver nodes using Q15X25 modulation - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Q15X25 - or similar.
250  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and ham radio on: July 24, 2014, 02:37:23 AM
You'd need about 2kbps to download seven 1MB blocks an hour.  That's a lot of bandwidth 24/7/365 on a global HF network.  I think the Bitsat project and the use of UHF and SHF for a lot more relative bandwidth is the best solution for a global wireless network - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=334701.0

How would http://www.short-wave.info/ stations work for 2kbps?

Quote
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Q15X25

Q15X25 is a digital signal processor-intensive mode designed to pass AX.25 packets on HF with speed and reliability much greater than traditional HF ARQ modems. It uses 15 QPSK modulated carriers separated by 125 Hertz, each modulated at 83.333 baud. Q15X25 uses forward error correction (FEC), and like MT63, uses time- and frequency-interleaving in order to avoid most error sources. The raw transmission data rate is typically 2500 bit/s.

So 6.67 minutes to download a 1MB block at 2.5kbps.  You'd need to operate on two channels so that you had a 2.5kbps receive and 2.5kbps transmit at the same time.

......................................................................particula rly if it's closed source. On the other hand, if their "solution" is a wrapper around already solid open-source cryptography left untouched, it may not be.

tl;dr: Small-cap sucker bet unless demonstrated otherwise.

[So it looks like I won't be hopping on the subway to visit them anytime soon....]

If they're aiming to go down the closed-source model like Vericoin are.  Then they're dead in the water open-source isn't just a buzzword and I think a lot of people underestimate what it inherently brings to security plus also to the wider developing cryptocoin space.  Also Vericoin are dead in the water for being PoS as PoS in it's current form is massively broken.  Anyway back on topic if they choose a decentralised mining algorithm like X11 or Cryptonight they it could gain a lot of supporters.  As every one who can mine can become a bagholder while nearly every bagholder is an evangelists for their coin.  Then another option would be to AuxPoW (merge-mine) with Litecoin or quite possibly with Darkcoin as the Scrypt hashrate follows Bitcoins in getting more centralised.  AuxPoW with Darkcoin might work quite well with XGC being all about pro-regulation with having either verified email addresses or verified phone numbers included in every transaction.  I think AuxPoW will keep a lot of the smaller altcoins from dying a complete death.  Using AuxPoW does not reduce a coins value lack of community and like of development does.  If they chose the Cryptonight hashing algorithm then they could AuxPoW with Monero.  Which again would work as good ying to their yang all being about privacy.  While Cryptonight is the most CPU biased hashing algorithm to date.  Although the main gripes then wouldnt be about hashing centralisation but about botnets.  Although I suppose to beat the botnet problem they could have a franchise of official pools which merged-mined with Monero where all pool members had to be verified.  As all transactions include either verified phone numbers or verified email addresses so they could exclude miners who didn't play ball.  While offering AuxPoW with the most profitable Cryptonight mined coin could make mining their coin a lot more profitable especially in the early days.  Plus the higher earnings that AuxPoW would bring would guarantee a much higher network hashrate so therefore a higher network hashrate which in turn means a more secure network.
254  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Canadian investment outfit GreenBank to back development of cryptocoin on: July 18, 2014, 11:39:43 AM
I think the likes of HSBC hiring Bitcoin enthusiastic interns is from the quote going round "To not have a cryptocoin strategy in 2014 is like not having an internet strategy in the late 1990's."  They know its not going away any time soon now while the network effect implies Bitcoin and cryptocoin usage in general is only going to grow.  So if you can't beat them you may as well join them.  Once Bitcoin and cryptocoin networks in general become large and valuable enough expect every bank to be involved in some form.  Major retail banks literally have a license to 'print' new money in the form of new digital fiat credit balances from issuing loans.  So that's why they haven't all rushed in so far.  As bitcoin market capitalisation is still tiny compared to the amount of money they all 'print' each year.

I'm stunned that there seems to be zero developer interest in this. I've finished a good 70% of it at least, and the github seems dead.

What's the bounty for this now?  Maybe we can promote it a bit more.  To get more donations and interest.

they could be a sperm bank for all i care they will produce some technical gymnastics and wreck the economics like so many do - but the whole market is expanding that's the point, education also.

Yeah, I haven't invested a single penny in this nor am I so far intending to yet either.  I just thought it made an interesting post and shows where markets are heading.  I've read HSBC has been hiring bitcoin enthusiastic interns and at least one other major bank is doing so too.  So maybe a 'real' bank will follow sooner or later with their own attempt at some form of decentralised cryptocoin?

Canadian investment firm GreenBank to back development of cryptocoin

Happier now D&T  Smiley

Just searched a American English dictionary and 'firm' doesn't have the same meanings as it does in British English I think, the same as merchant bank doesn't so changed it again.  Maybe investment bank was a bad translation but I was trying to get across what a merchant bank can mean in the UK.  Without putting merchant bank as I new it had a different meaning in the US.
