Pirates been in Vegas and according to another poster his house has flooded, so I imagine he's quite busy.

It's unfortunate that there is such a bad atmosphere lately in these forums. Can we just chill out a little bit, and not tear this community apart?

And so was born SomethingAwful 2.

I will be referring to this forum as somethingawfultalk.org until further notice.

Good stuff, thanks Giga Smiley

I want my bitcoin back and also want compensation for taking more than 60 Days to get it back...

Yes, well, good luck with that.   Sounds like they're just handing over this new cash to the Bitcoinica guys who haven't exactly had a great track record of handing funds back so far.   No reason to think that's about to change suddenly.   It's just more money for them to accidentally flush down the toilet.
246  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Statement about the suspect of recent Bitcoinica hack on: July 30, 2012, 01:05:46 AM
Hopefully this latest theft will have reached a high enough level for some painfully expensive education.

If not, I look forward to reading the details of the next massive security breach/theft/loss of wallet file!

Agreed.  This is a very complacent community so far.   I'd like to see that change (and it'll need to if we ever want to take this currency anywhere outside of here).
247  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Statement about the suspect of recent Bitcoinica hack on: July 30, 2012, 01:03:13 AM
The main outcome here is for everyone to get their money back. Finger pointing can come afterwards.

We'll see.  Hopefully you're right.
248  Economy / Goods / Re: Spend Bitcoins (worldwide) | Buy Bitcoins (worldwide) on: July 30, 2012, 01:01:59 AM
Hi bitcoin spenders,

Lucky you! We want to balance our # of bitcoins vs fiat currency today, so until that is done, we are giving you 5%* more for your national currency than LAST PRICE on Mt Gox (give or take 5 minutes).

If you've been holding out on cashing out or spending your bitcoins, now is the time! Head over to http://spendbitcoins.com while this sale lasts. It could end anytime!

Happy spending,
Jeremy West
http://spendbitcoins.com

*Please note that while every other conversion option is figured at the mid-market exchange rate from Mt Gox LAST USD, wire transfers are figured at Commonwealth Bank's retail AUD->other currency rates, so if you choose a wire transfer while you will probably get MORE than Mt Gox, it will certainly not be 5% more. Please see link on the wire page to estimate how much you will get in your national currency.

I'll be sending some coins your way tomorrow, hopefully this is still on then Smiley

Justice is getting the money back, and extra at this point.

I respectfully disagree.  Not exactly sending the right message is it.    "Hey hackers, these jokers at the bitcointalk forum are pushovers!  Hack the shit out them (several times), but as long as you concoct some barely feasible story and hand back a portion of what you took, you get to keep the rest with no consequences!"

Yeah, awesome.

Zhou,
Since the Intersango team is actively blocking the recovery process,  can we convince you to take care of the claims process as you originally offered?

Hey fox, can you watch these chickens for me? Thanks!

This as I see it is part of the problem.   People just want their money back, and it seems at this point really don't care about "justice" or whatever.    Memorydealers have a lot of money on the line here so I can understand why they don't want to rock the boat and will just swallow whatever story means they get their cash back the soonest.

It's a shame, but I can't really blame them.    I just hope that when phantom Chen pays everyone back (only partly it seems, what a stingey thieving millionaire he is), people will then actually start caring about the main issue here, which is someone stole hundreds of thousands of dollars and shouldn't be allowed to get away with it.

Someone get the police involved already, sheesh Roll Eyes

Will you cut it out? Some people have lost money here. We can deal with the "whodidit" thing later. This isn't helping anything.

Perfect timing Dree.

Well as far as I'm concerned there's still zero evidence that thus Chen person even exists.    And now, just to add to the convenience, Zhou is refunding the USD from his own accounts.

Look, if in the future this mystery Chen person is actually arrested for this then I'll happily apologise to Zhou for doubting him, but as things stand now I find that extremely unlikely to happen.

Is it possible that Zhou is telling the truth, sure, but from all the evidence presented thus far that just simply isn't the likely scenario I'm afraid.

If all this fantastical stuff actually IS true then the way its gone down is extremely unfortunate for Zhou, as most of the evidence hes posting to exonerate himself just makes him look more guilty.
253  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Statement about the suspect of recent Bitcoinica hack on: July 29, 2012, 02:43:40 AM

Aurumxchange has failed to produce any new evidence, resorting to points that support Zhou's case. Patrick Murck has become involved.

Right, well you're clearly more easily pleased that I am.
254  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Statement about the suspect of recent Bitcoinica hack on: July 29, 2012, 02:34:27 AM
I'm still not sure why everyone seems to believe Zhou stole the funds. At this point, it's becoming increasingly obvious that he didn't.

Increasingly obvious?   How so exactly?    For the record I didn't have funds in Bitcoinica (I wasn't much of a fan from the start) so I have no horse in this race and I'd like to think I can approach it objectively, but I really don't see how Zhou is any less likely to be behind all this than he was from the start.    There's certainly no new evidence that would suggest otherwise.  Sure there's this whole mystery Chen fella, but right now he's just a phantom.  There's no evidence whatsoever to show that he was behind it, or even exists.
255  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Statement about the suspect of recent Bitcoinica hack on: July 29, 2012, 02:27:43 AM
I have agreed to transfer the funds to Patrick Murck and it'll take place within 24 hours.

To my best knowledge the total interest held by Patrick's clients far exceeds the requested funds at the moment, and Patrick has given me a statement acknowledging that the funds returned are strictly originated from stolen properties of Bitcoinica.

The relevant parties will also post a statement publicly upon receipt of 15,000 BTC, the first batch of funds.

Cool.  So this guy was happy to just hand over the cash to you after you called him out?  Apparently so.  That was easy wasn't it Smiley

Sorry to say it Zhou but whether you were involved with this theft or not, I think you're done with this community going forward.  No-one with half a brain (that still leave Rarity though) will trust you with anything going forward.    What a mess.

Bitlane should be moved to Staff.

Well shit, if Psy can be made staff then anyone can Smiley  Crazyness.

Well as super convenient as all this is, good, I hope the majority of you get your money back.   Hopefully though, should that happen, you don't all just let it go.   Someone needs to go down for this.
258  Other / Off-topic / Re: Tomorrow at around 9:40PM KST my death will air on MBC in Korea on: July 29, 2012, 01:03:31 AM
I count that as a then.  Boring Smiley
259  Other / Off-topic / Re: Tomorrow at around 9:40PM KST my death will air on MBC in Korea on: July 29, 2012, 12:57:47 AM
Well I guess it's either (in order of likelihood):

a) a troll
b) a cry for help
c) a hacked account

Hopefully it doesn't end up being b, but ignored due to too much of a and crying wolf in the past.
260  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitcoinEXpress is a scammer on: July 28, 2012, 10:54:32 PM
Not just this subject.   This forum needs some serious reworking.

You do realize that this whole sub-section for Alt Currency was created as a joke by the admins to keep this trash out of the main BTC forum. For a time I do believe it was Maged that referred to this subsection as "The Trashcan Alt Currency Forum"

Its not just this subsection, but the whole forum unfortunately.   The amount of pirate threads all with the same content attest to that.   I'm not sure what the point if mods is if they don't do any modding.

This forum is essentially the public face of Bitcoin, and its doing a horrible job of promoting it.    It needs a complete clean up and some actual rules put in place.  Right now its the wild west.
