Looks like satoshidice has been down for about an hour?
Yes I just bet some and was wondering what's going on... hope that it will be up anytime soon. Explanation of outage: The file system a bitcoind we needed was running on filled. It was small and I wasn't tracking it (booo). I moved that to a larger file system and got things back up this morning. I also took things down again to try to update to the newest bitcoind version. That was taking too long to sync blocks so I aborted that and moved back to the old one. I'll probably still do the upgrade, but I'll get it synced elsewhere and then move the files in to minimize downtime. We had alarms that caught when things went down but I don't have those alarms set to wake me up and I was asleep so things stayed down until I got up and checked my email.

"either ... and ..." - not sure what that means.
I'm guessing what he meant to say is that bets aren't processed until they get into a block unless they have a fee of at least 0.001 included. But his statement could be clearer.
I'd suggest including a fee of 0.001 BTC with a bet and see if that gets things going fast for you again.
You are correct. It should have been either, or. I've been traveling and haven't had a chance to post until now. I've lowered the fee down to 0.0005 again and will see how that goes.

So the pool has been pretty low and I put some more in yesterday or the day before. I begin to lose track, I've been traveling.

So, showing the screenshot of his website that says the transaction was received is not the same? Especially since it has the "Bet tx" listed on the site?
We will happy honor it if that bet transaction is ever confirmed.

|
|
I had this same thing happen on a transaction several weeks ago that I sent you a tweet about and you never responded to. I still have yet to receive that win and it still doesn't show up. Since it was only 3.2 btc I didn't make a big fuss about it. However, this is quite a bit more when considering all the transactions that I am missing. It's roughly twenty transactions and some wins at 16+ btc.
PS... Why is your only method of contact listed on your site as twitter, yet you don't respond there? (This is not meant to sound rude, just want to know)
We can only act on what is in the blockchain. If you transaction doesn't get confirmed, we eventually give up on it and remove it from our DB and remove the payment transaction. However, if the transaction ever does get confirmed we will act on it as if it came in when we first saw it and issue a new payment for it. So if you have a sent transaction that is out of your wallet balance but it doesn't appear in the blockchain then your client thinks the transaction is pending. You can either get your client to try to resend the transaction to the network to get it to go in or forget about it in which case you'll be able to spend that balance again. As for the twitter account, I don't know. I'm not in charge of that. You can email me directly ( fireduck@gmail.com) or PM here and I should be able to look into things.
|
|
|
We prune transactions that don't confirm after a while, usually 24 hours.
However, the satoshidice system records when it first sees transactions and evaluates win/loss then. That record is saved indefinitely. So if at some later point that transaction is confirmed it will be processed as it should.
In short, if you can get your bet transactions to confirm they will be processed.

I'm working on figuring out what is going on here. It seems like the bitcoin network is expecting higher fees. I've increased our base tx fee that we pay to 0.0010 from 0.0005. I've also re-enabled the isLegit check on incoming bets. This check makes sure the bet is either confirmed and has a tx fee of at least 0.001. It also traces it back to confirmed parent transactions. It isn't perfect and may delay some transactions that do eventually confirm but it should help up avoid doing payments of transactions that will never confirm so often.
I guess when you are creating 1.6 million transactions there are bound to be a few snags.
Thanks everyone for your patience. Mostly no one has heard from me in a while because things have been mostly running smoothly. Hopefully we can soon get back to that.

Are there any plans to support the Stratum protocol?
I have only just now heard of it so I have no plans. Does it provide any significant advantages to miners?

hey i just placed a couple bets...they both showed up as a win with a pop up on my bottom task bar. when i looked at my transactions one of the wins disappeared? so it only paid me out for 1 win instead of 2. tx numbers: bet: 79f7b303876f2872d675748da3f366e7c5e44c35e1ef4a9677db47e8d2646aa2 1 win received: 99a65d5177ec912ffe7fc2996ae364e11bea2ae45cfc6aa9b22e10982b3f25af
missing a winner payout. Thanks edit
wen i look up the payment transaction is says does not exist. cbf22b626b12fdff8768be7287fd37a2c7f6830a482de3b62511fe85d8460d5e
I'll look into why that second payment isn't being picked up by the network. You will absolutely get it, it just might take some time. http://satoshidice.com/lookup.php?tx=79f7b303876f2872d675748da3f366e7c5e44c35e1ef4a9677db47e8d2646aa2&limit=250&min_bet=0&status=ALL

Depending on when you plan to close this, I'll take a stab at it after midterms
Edit: read the opening post better so I took a stab at it
Removed highlighter and cleaned up background (let me know if you decide to use this and I missed a spot) and cleaned up highlighter on the colored parts to the best of my ability on the lower right bird. (Have to go so don't have time to do the others, but again let me know if you like the removal and would like the others cleaned up). I also added a bit of the color back into the picture.
Hope its to your liking!
Cool, send me an address and I'll send you your 0.5 BTC.

I'm in the process of upgrading one of the supporting bitcoind instances to 0.7. It has decided it needs to inspect the world for a while so share processing is down until it completes.
Mining, block creation and share recording are going fine (they use a different bitcoind). Payments and share recording btc amounts for shares will be back whenever it is done.

I still see pink highlighter over top of the colored parts though - it appears that no effort was made to remove those. I'm no good at photoshop, or I'd take a stab at it myself. I'm just a wandering critic. You are correct but trying to remove those will probably do more harm than good and it isn't too noticeable.

I have a piece of artwork that was savaged in an unfortunate incident involving a small child and a pink highlighter. What I need is for someone to remove the pink highlighter marks and any crinkles in the paper as best you can. It doesn't need to be perfect, it just needs to be good enough to look ok when printed on a reasonable ink jet printer at about 8" x 5". I'd prefer if the edits were done on the high res one, but I am fine with either: https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/fdk-share/BirdsHiRes.png [ 52mb, 5796x7620 ] https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/fdk-share/BirdsLowRes.png [ 5mb, 1449x1905 ] I'll pay up to 10 people 0.5 BTC for a reasonable effort and 5 BTC for the submission that I think is best. I'll close the contest and award the winner in about 27 hours, at 2012.10.17 00:00 UTC. (I've run a similar graphics task a while back: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=87869)

Hey FD - how about a bonus i have found 5 blocks for the pool (4 in the last 5 days) and have been paid 89 BTC I guess this means I just have to stay on the pool for a long time as this "luck" will revert and I will probably not find a block for 3 weeks but keep earning
EDIT - seems we found another block today - now almost 62 BTC positive! http://blockchain.info/tx-index/29497887/4b5959577d3e385e8a700ebacba761880317be5b5a33cc3b7cebde55d10db475I won't be making a habit of it (unless I am very stupid (which has never been disproven))

Rather than doing anything useful I've implemented dynamically stupid colors.
The code is horrible but it actually does a fairly good job.
