242  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Win Bitcurex card + 5 BTC: Race for BitMinter block no. 1000 ! on: September 20, 2012, 10:59:21 AM
Only a few more blocks to go, odds are pretty slim of being me though with only 350mh/s... although there have been a few names other than the big contributors lately!

Also, happy birthday to the guy at Bitcurex Smiley
243  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why are bitcoins in december better than bitcoins today? (ICBIT) on: September 19, 2012, 05:47:09 PM
Personally I plan to invest in BTC as much as I can afford/risk because I think the price will increase once the block value halves, also the general trend is up anyway. Of course like any investment, it has the potential to flop. BTC's volatility is probably closer to shares than major fiat currencies at the moment, but then again over the medium term even fiat currencies vary wildly. I quite enjoy when the GBP/USD exchange moves back into my favour and its beneficial to import from USA again, I'd really love to see >$2 / £ again! Cheesy
244  Economy / Goods / Amazon UK for BTC - Free shipping on: September 19, 2012, 05:12:25 PM
Having spoke with AmazonStuff and confirmed that he is not wanting to expand his service to the UK, I thought I would offer a similar service to his for people in the UK.

I am offering to purchase items from Amazon.co.uk to be shipped to your destination address as a gift. Items should be in stock and sold by amazon.co.uk (not market place), in most cases this makes them elligble for Amazon Prime delivery thus I can currently offer free next delivery on these (until such point that this becomes too popular and potentially in breach of Amazons T&C's)

The process is:

1) Send me a PM with details of what you want ordering
2) I will check availabilities of items and give you a final price (based on Mt Gox weighted average + 5%), generally shipping will be free but otherwise this will be added and I will inform you
3) If you are happy with the price then you send payment to the provided address and the order will be placed
4) When item ships any tracking info will be sent on to you
5) Items will be sent as gifts so will not contain any information about me also your gift receipt can be used for any returns to Amazon for either exchange or refund for gift certificate as per their gift policy. This takes me out of the equation and thus you have no worries if I stop this service or am not contactable should you need to return an item.

I understand that there are a lot of scams recently and thus I am willing to provide details of who I am, where I live etc to a moderator or a highly regarded forum member such as Stephen Gornick in the event that I disappear, which obviously I do not plan to do but I want to provide this extra assurance to people as a courtesy.

My turnaround should be very quick on weekdays, especially during office hours, weekends will be a bit of a delay. Orders before 5pm should be delivered next day.

Any questions please ask, I would guess the first question is why? Simply, this provides a way to offer a service to people in the UK to purchase with BTC, whilst at the same time allowing me to accrue BTC without using exchanges, thus we're both happy.

16 blocks, about 3 hours left... potentially could beat the previous record of 18 blocks in a day Smiley
246  Economy / Gambling / Re: satoshidice glitch? on: September 17, 2012, 11:28:18 AM
This problem is probably because you have sent lots of bets in succession without any of them having confirmations... so it is possible you have double spent some coins.

It is probably best to leave it for an hour or so and wait for all your transactions to confirm before doing any more bets.

The efficiency on my system has gone from about 88% to 98%... I only have a ATI 6870 though, no FPGA here Sad

[EDIT]
Now up to 172% efficiency Smiley

Could you set it up on an alternate subdomain perhaps? Such as test.bitminter.com ?
249  Economy / Gambling / Re: HungerCoins 199k Micro Edition on: September 16, 2012, 10:30:26 AM
I didn't win, I was sleeping when the 199k block was done... by my reckoning the winning account is:

https://blockchain.info/address/1JAGkuBnGbNZHBwzpoY12ryvf3nCGoR1W7

Who it belongs to, and whether they will get paid 19.9BTC is anyones guess... the payment account only received 5.07 BTC, so about 14BTC short...

Seems the server is down again... not having much luck lately! At least this has taught me to sort out a backup pool!

Hopefully it will be back up soon Smiley
251  Economy / Gambling / Re: HungerCoins Invest: The odds are ever in your favor. on: September 16, 2012, 09:39:54 AM
I stopped sending to this when he announced his 199k block competitions, they seemed like a very good get out... I really hope I'm wrong though, it would be nice for something not to be scam for once! But I can't imagine him fronting about 170BTC to top up that jackpot.
252  Economy / Gambling / Re: HungerCoins 199k Micro Edition on: September 15, 2012, 08:59:48 PM
I've put a few bets on this one, but I think the bigger prize will get too pricey for my liking... although 199BTC is a nice jackpot!
253  Economy / Gambling / Re: HungerCoins 199K on: September 14, 2012, 05:34:10 PM
Is this guy trusted? Has anyone dealt with him before? Just being careful.

I've used his HungerCoins Invest and Poker funds... both paid the interest after the allotted times. As for whether he is good for a 199BTC jackpot... who knows, perhaps this is final get out pot with his other schemes, perhaps he is genuine? It's your call...
254  Economy / Gambling / Re: HungerCoins 199K on: September 14, 2012, 05:14:08 PM
199BTC minimum prize pot? Thats a mighty big prize pot, especially if you only get 20BTC in bets from people.

Also, because people can publicly see all the bets that go to that address, its not the fairest of raffles/bets. It's like playing one of those count the pennies in the jar games and being able to physically count the pennies...?

Anyway, I may have a go... but I'll wait until just before the 199,000th block and then I can see everyone else's bets Smiley
255  Economy / Gambling / Re: HungerCoins Poker Fund on: September 14, 2012, 01:17:19 PM
I get that you are not willing to publicly disclose your identity, but why not send some identification proofs to a few trusted, non-anonymous members of this community, with the explicit authorization to release them if you fail to reimburse funds without convincing explanation for a specified period of time (two weeks)? That should make everyone more comfortable trusting you with their money.

That does sound a fairly reasonable idea, I would guess you are unlikely to get all that much investment at the moment with what just recently happened. I don't mind a small gamble but to invest in something requires more certainty, but then again I can "invest" much more than I am willing to "gamble"... although all investment is a bit of a gamble to some degree.

Mining with the BitMinter Java client on my work computer seems to use 100% of a single core to mine on my Nvidia FX 580, which only does about 6Mh/s. Just wondering if its normal to use that much CPU?

Funnily enough I get about 18Mh/s from the 8 x 2Ghz (dual quad Xeons) cores using Ufasoft CPU miner, but have to limit it to 7 cores otherwise the GPU mining with the BitMinter client drops really low.

[EDIT]
Also I'm not sure if you keep a database of what settings are best for different cards? But for the FX 580, a work item size of 64 yields much better results than 128 default.
258  Economy / Gambling / Re: HungerCoins Poker Fund on: September 14, 2012, 05:49:29 AM
All I can say is that currently he has been true to his word and returned stakes +1% after 144 confirmations. I have no idea whether his idea is sound or not and whether he can sustain it in the long term. Thats all I really have to say at the moment, my knowledge of poker is limited to the very few number of games I have played with friends with a few beers, I have no idea how the big boys play!

Servers are a pain in the ass, especially when they are remote ones you don't have access to! Everythings gone downhill since that lucky 18 block day!  Undecided
