241  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-04-03 goodgearguide.com.au Online electronics retailer has successful trial on: April 03, 2013, 10:25:17 PM
I ordered a computer from them, took over 20 days for them to ship it.

I did get the computer though and it is as advertised.

The shipping is way too high. Not sure if I would buy from them again.
Also from where did you purchase it?
If it was outside of the U.S.A I wouldn't be surprised of a high shipping fee as stan.distortion mentioned.

Awesome! If there was anything I wanted to attribute to the rising Bitcoin price it would be Bitcoinstore's success. Great!

So good for the U.S.A. citizens, they can buy electronics for BTC. Did the article mention that some purchases are from outside the U.S.A.? I wonder what the shipping costs would be to Europe.

Edit: Nevermind, I read the article. Too high fees is the answer.
246  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Jeez, the price is STILL rising on: April 02, 2013, 10:18:10 PM
How can you explain that 1 BTC was worth 10 euros 3 months ago, and 90 euros now?
Supply and demand is like that. I can't tell if the price is overrated, because we need to suffer a crash so it is proven to us that this is the case. As long as there is no crash, nothing can be proved.

Quote
I mean, now, a lot of people are buying out of curiosity. => price is increasing.
Price increases independently of why somebody is buying the Bitcoins.
I only bought some with half of my surplus of my budget from last month. If the price was stable for at least 10-15 days I would buy Bitcoins with all my surplus of last month's budget.

The only thing I want is that more game companies accept Bitcoin: 0 until now. If anybody knows of some game company that accepts Bitcoin you must notify us through a post. Please.

Since I watched "What is Bitcoin?" on youtube I fell for 1:15 "You can purchase video games". Yes I can, but not officially from the companies or Steam or from the Humble Bundle by donations. I'm eagerly waiting to do that, cause I don't want to pay middlepersons, yes it is an option but it just doesn't feel ok. I want to pay the game company directly.
247  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Jeez, the price is STILL rising on: April 02, 2013, 10:13:16 PM
Yes, new people coming and wanting to buy bitcoins make the prices higher and higher.
Will probably reach 100 euros and decrease (?)
I don't think so. I honestly don't know what will cause the price to decrease this time, or even if it will decrease. If it would decrease expect the reason to be that Mt. Gox got hacked and Bitcoins stolen. Otherwise don't hold much hope(the only hope I have is that Bitcoin prices become stable, and I don't care what value they will land on really) for BTC decreasing. I could be wrong of course, as human error is very common  Cheesy

Though what I hope for the most for Bitcoin greatness is that I can buy games officially from companies with BTC. Humble Bundle inc, do you hear me? I don't use wordpress, neither reddit gold. I don't live in the USA for the bitcoinstore, so that's a no no. I don't live in the USA for the pizzaforcoins so that's a no no as well. I could use a domain name from namecheap maybe though I'm not yet into DNS.

Maybe I can buy Eufloria the game on steam from Alex who works at Tuna, but that's 1 game and calling this a breakthrough in 'buying games for Bitcoin' would be exagerrating "Buy games for BTC". Though I'm very happy that at least 1 serious game dev is wanting Bitcoin for at least 1 game and I'm thankful for that.
248  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Humble Indie Bundle - Purchasing with Bitcoin? on: April 02, 2013, 10:03:47 PM
Update: I've finally sent the payment/donation to Alex Amsel who contributed to the game Eufloria. Not 1BTC as I don't have one. So what I donated was 0.18BTC, that's pretty much by today's Bitcoin buy/sell "standards".(not really a "standard" since this freakin standard changes like every half minute!  Cheesy)

This is the public address of Alex Amsel https://blockchain.info/address/13SXYiGtuUTnuVG6JXnrHLbw4Lwc8BEgmv

This is the first game dev that I know of that contributed to a game(EufloriaHD) in the humble bundle, Humble Indie Bundle for Android 4, that accepted my donation in BTC. This for now, I can add that Alex was enthusiastic about the 'pay what you want' model for Bitcoin, though it will remain to be seen if this is just a wish or if it could be realized.

If Humble Bundle inc. starts accepting BTC officially then the problem will of course be solved  Grin
249  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-03-31; TheVerge.com; Total Bitcoin value passes $1 billion on: March 31, 2013, 08:28:36 PM
The article is wrong.

as the exchange rate for each individual unit of the encrypted digital currency rose above $92.
There's no damn encryption used in Bitcoin. My opinion is similar to WiW's, but not the same.

That for journalists to get the honest opinion of doing "good journalism" they must do an effort to understand what they are talking about.

This is bad journalism! We use cryptography, but that is NOT the same as encryption. Theverge probably have always dealt on the topic of cryptography with ignorance, they are not a tech magazine, are they?
250  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Satoshi actually Richard Stallman? on: March 31, 2013, 08:36:20 AM
I find it extremely unlikely Satoshi to be RMS, since rms has long ago abandoned programming but instead try to tell people about Free Software, meaning he should have not gotten enough time to focus on Bitcoin, even less programming. Also in what language did Satoshi write the code? Was it not c++? Also look for any references of rms to that language.

Quote
As the author of GCC, how do you view the future of C,
in view of modern,
or more modern, languages like C++ or Java?
Well, C++ is a lousy language.
[laughter]
It's
a lousy job of language design; sloppy job of language design.
[applause]
Its grammar is ambiguous!

Also note that Bitcoin is not branded with a GNU. It is neither called GNUcoin, though it sounds catchy doesn't it? "New Coin".
251  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [EDU] How to spot a scammer (Read this before lending your coins!) on: March 31, 2013, 08:05:06 AM
8. Any user blatantly claiming to be female
Then also
9. Any user blatantly claiming to be male?

Explain? Huh

There actually are females using bitcoin, but it is common practice among scammers to pretend to be females in order to receive more favorable conditions, including using it as a scapegoat for making various mistakes. (read: I'm just a helpless girl!)

To add on to this: regardless of their sex, why would anyone need to announce their gender? You don't see the males of the forum going "Can anyone lend me some BitCoin? I'm a guy, btw Tongue"
Announcing your gender then. Wonder why nobody else could come to that conclusion.

If somebody announces also that they are a vegetarian could that cause any prejudice too? "I can't trust veggies! They are scammers. In the old days we had no freakin veggies, we threw them in the sea"

I left them a constructive comment about there being 0 inventors of Bitcoin available for interviews.

This is possibly a redundant question but does anyone have a youtube link? On youtube I don't depend on crappy anti-html5 adobe flash to watch videos since I can just use youtube-dl to get the videos or watch them in standards compliant WebM or h.264 if I use Chromium or Google Chrome.

Torrent bundle, what is that? Don't you mean Tor Browser Bundle?(TBB)

Even if you travel there, but for *real anonymity* you're between i2p and (way better imho) TOR.
Tor is only 'better' in the sense that it has a huge .exit node network while i2p focuses mostly on the darknet(.exit nodes in i2p are called outproxies). One use I find in i2p is the internal torrent network which is not too small these days I can recommend the TPB AFK movie legal to download Cheesy, though I use Tor when I want to get out to regular websites on the internet that are not themselves part of an onion network.

About how Trace Mayer uses Bitcoins to pay for stuff:
At 4:29 the interviewer asks "But what are you actually using them for?"
Trace Mayer
4:35 "pay independent contractors that are all over the world, whether they are in India or the Philippines".
4:41 "I've used them to purchase digital products such as e-books or mp3 files".
4:46 "I've also used them to order goods from different websites that accept them online and in other cases I've traded them for euros or British pounds or dollars when I've been traveling.
258  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-03-20 betabeat.com - Bet Bitcoins on Whether or Not an Actual Human Girl Wi on: March 27, 2013, 01:27:14 PM
We’re happy to say the bets are currently in favor of the statement, meaning Bitcoin bettors really do think a female person has a good chance of showing up to the meetup. So you’ll only win big if you bet against the statement and no ladies attend.
What about if the person attending knows nothing about Bitcoin, but came there to learn about it? Does that count or does the person attending need to know about Bitcoin already?
Does this play any role or is it enough just being born as a certain gender?

This is quoted from post #1:
Your wallet is "in the cloud", and that cloud is the Bitcoin blockchain!
To my knowledge no private keys are stored in the Bitcoin blockchain and my private keys are stored in the wallet.dat file when using the regular client. Here the private keys are stored on a 'seed server', though locked with a strong passphrase?

This is just the same shit we had from 'Zyphus' and his friends last week. The post above with falso rumours should actually be moderated. Differing opinion is good. Purposely false rumours aren't...
Differing opinion is good because free speech is good. Also don't treat this as a rumour but as an opinion, think for yourself, you have your own mind.
