So.

After an epic marathon session of coding today, I got the Android wallet working (kudos to some of the hard work done by HashEngineering and the Franko clan for porting scrypt & kgw to bitcoinj).

A crappy issue though. "ASIC"-resistance in the form of scrypt, means that it is substantially slower to sync than with sha256 coins. KGW also adds extra processing, which means the initial syncing process also drains battery. It is really not as fast as I had hoped.

I'll be reskinning the app and putting it out for beta in a day or 2. EDIT: That's if I don't find any bugs (which I just did). Wink

I'll have a look again at X11 to see it syncs faster, as that will be a nice reason to switch (and has some "asic"-resistance still). If you want the best SPV, mobile performance then switching to sha256 and normal diff retargeting would be the best. Tongue. Which is ironic. You have to take the good with the bad.

Hi everyone!

I wanted to ask you some things about the concert (live show) idea.

I found this thing which might be a good service to use.. It's free (with ads) and allows for multiple video guests if we wanted to do a 'group' video chat.

tinychat.com/

Next I looked at uStream and Livestream, but uStream likes to play tons of ads, and Livestream makes everyone register.

The best solution I've found is the example set by the Ryan Montbleau Band.

The Ryan Montbleau Band enlisted the help of friends to build their own website to handle streaming once the group began broadcasting live shows in January. Unlike hosts such as Ustream, the band’s site has no advertisements or fees, nor does it require a membership login, as Livestream does.

If anyone has any ideas about how we can actually get a nice live show going, I'd love to hear them!

Tinychat seems legit [most straightforward for now]. You can stream soundcloud too. So, it's great even to just hang out, talk shit and listen to new music from SoundCloud.

Does anyone of a fully functioning coloured coin wallet?

All I know of is Chromawallet, but it is not fully done yet. Mastercoin web wallet is hella confusing and I don't know how to create coloured coins. Coinprism is coming soon. And Counterparty is also confusing. Looking at nxt as well.

I have an idea that could be quite cool, but first want to see if its possible now. Smiley

Soundposition had such an awesome idea (don't know why we haven't thought about it yet). Let's hold an internet hangout show where we play songs, talk music, talk shit and hang out?

That is a great idea.  I did a bit of marketing tonight on fb with some musician friends.  It will be interesting to see the results.  I have a really good friend who is a concert promoter here in the US and he likes the concept and will help out.  He works with a lot of big names, but he also knows a lot of local and less famous musicians.  Aside from spreading the word in obvious ways, does anyone have any good ideas for me to approach him with?  It's a bit premature, but the thought of a music festival comes to mind first.  Obviously after better name recognition for Cypherfunks.

Thanks for the work on the Wallet, Simon.  I'll give some buy support tomorrow.  Too damn tired to move stuff around right now.  I moved out of CR due to the uncertainty, but it looks okay now.  I'll try and get you some BTC as well.  I exchanged all my BTC for USD recently.  I'm having a bitch of a time buying back in because I can't find my Social Security card.  PIA.

Awesome stuff Jeremy! Thanks.

Seems like people are selling against the buy support. Anyone want to help chip in? https://cryptorush.in/index.php?p=trading&m=FUNK&b=LTC

Android wallet is coming along nicely. Should be out within next week.

Finally. The seed nodes seem to a bit more expensive than I thought (costing me $35). If anyone wants to donate some BTC, I would really appreciate it: 1Aowi9E4P4TpivyVWVRKxsQXcfP4FCmzKC

EDIT:

How nice and chill is this new song? I like it.

I ported cantonbecker's bitcoinpaperwallet to FUNK: https://github.com/n00bsys0p/bitcoinpaperwallet/tree/cypherfunk

I'm not particularly happy with the artwork, and I'm having a day of not being able to brain today. I've included all the core XCFs in the repo so you can make some of your own suggestions :-)

Awesome! Thanks. Going to print some of them and bring them along to gigs!

@neuro. This is also a great way to advertise it at festivals (along with flyers).

Interesting.. both Novahash and Hashfever pools are down stating database problems on their Funk Pools.  P2P seems to be fine.  Anybody have an idea what our global rate is?  looks like it's up a bit even with those pools down as our diff has raised a bit.

That's odd... I'll ping them.

Global hashrate has been fluctuating between 10 - 40mh.

@jommy99 cheers! Voted!

Internet band high-five! Drinking some virtual beers from here with you guys.

Also: If all goes according to plan (nothing breaks horribly), I'll be able to get a beta of the Android wallet done this weekend. Soooo amped.

I think there should be some serious consideration about switching the hashing algorithm before the Scrypt ASICs come out.

I agree it's important that we keep everyone in the community happy (especially miners as they keep the chain alive). There's currently no silver-bullet for complete ASIC-resistance [if you are doing PoW]. It's going to always be catch-up. To hard-fork each time is just a recipe for slow attrition as a cryptocurrency community (especialy Cypherfunks), don't just consist of miners. As having to tell someone who is not a crypto-expert that their wallet just broke, sucks. You won't get mainstream, non-crypto users involved if this keeps happening constantly. It's a tenuous grip.

As I previously said. Let's get infrastructure to the point where mainstream users won't have to be worried about chain changes (ie web wallets), and then as miners, we can do chain changes without worrying about affecting the rest of the ecosystem. This will take time, dedication and hard work. And it will require the whole community to step up.

There are a lot of coins that are purely nestled within the crypto community. They won't ever extend out of this. A lot of them seem successful now, but their premise is built on aiming for inclusion in only one community (crypto-enthusiasts). For example, try explaining to someone why they would want Blackcoin or Bitcoin. They'll glaze over and not understand it. For us, in the know (of technical side of things), we GET that value proposition, but it's a value proposition that won't extend outside of this community. The upside of The Cypherfunks is absolutely enormous, far extending coins ONLY focused to cater to the crypto-enthusiasts, and while we are still small & nascent, it's important we keep that idea in mind.

Aosilu, does that make sense? btw, thanks for being a part of our project. Smiley

Also. News is spreading to some cool places! Might turn into something really cool. We'll see where it goes [and reveal it if it comes to fruition]. Epic.

Hopefully I can get that Android wallet soon. Full steam ahead.

Contact the owner of Coin-swap to get your coin listed. Cryptorush is dead

Submitted. Also contacted Moolah.io.

Any other exchanges to try [besides mintpal]?

Nxt-e.com is another exchange worth taking a deeper look into.

Sweet. Will look into that as well! Been working on the android wallet for the past day. Still busy. Churn churn!

Maybe it's just me, but the only working pool I can find is hashfever.  Anyone know what happened to all the P2P pools?

I have a P2Pool here that's currently unused. The interest in FUNK appears to have completely dropped off from what I can see.

I have no idea if that web wallet is secure - I posted it as soon as I found it. In fact some of the code uses raw $_POST values, which is HORRIBLE, but porting the code to a secure ORM can't be that hard. I'm happy to develop and advise on security for it but I really haven't got time to run a project like that - it's the sort of thing that needs a huge amount of time putting into.

Agreed. It takes time!

@simondlr

Just found this: http://wallet.ltc.pe/

The source code is Open Source, and the dev actively encourages pull requests to support more coins, so what do you think? The site's not great looking, but we can easily fix that!

EDIT: Got it up and running in minutes! The whole thing seems to work flawlessly so  far. Just tested deposits, and it's really simple. This could very well be exactly what we need - just with a custom Cypherfunk style!

Neat. Great find! EDIT: It does seem a bit old though. How robust is it?

I wonder how Coinpunk stacks up (http://coinpunk.org/)? And if there are LTC/KGW implementations for it.

Web wallets would be awesome! I have some experience doing sys admin [was back-end dev at: http://min.io/]. The important part is just making sure we keep the FUNK secure, and that's always difficult to know fully. Our btc daemon for example runs on it's own instance, protected by an amazon-esque REST API that you can't discover from the application server.

I think there should be some serious consideration about switching the hashing algorithm before the Scrypt ASICs come out.

While the community is still young and we are on minimal exchanges we should do a hard-fork to Scrypt-N, Scrypt Jane, or X11 since we won't have to do a mass effort to reach out to a bunch of exchange operators or an overwhelming community base. Everything is tight-knit right now.

I think it's important to consider that we aren't a pure crypto-focused coin. Some coins can easily do hard-forks and get the community to switch because they are the people that are heavily involved in the crypto scene. I've donated FUNK to people that would be pissed at me for telling them to switch to a new wallet, because of some "technical" change in the background. They won't understand it. An example of this was Dogecoin's difficulty to get people to switch to 1.6. A large portion of Dogecoin's base is non-crypto.

It's also important to consider changes carefully. The more it changes the more effort it is: especially for the non-crypto people involved in the community. I'm still not sold on scrypt-N (asics are coming out that have changeable parameters precisely for that). Scrypt-N is also a memory hog, that could possibly make it unfeasible for the average joe to stay on board [more energy for less proof-of-work], resulting in unprofitable equipment. X11 does sound interesting (power saving for one), although it, in itself is also not ASIC-resistant as each algo is ASIC-able.

It doesn't say much of a coin that changes willy-nilly and makes previous holders of FUNK unable to use their currency. There's no silver bullet. For example, while KGW enables faster diff adjustments, but it is not so SPV-friendly. It drains battery substantially more (which I've discovered now while developing the android wallet). While there's no clear silver bullet, I'm wary to change unless it is absolutely necessary.

I suspect once we have web wallet support, the crypto-side of the project (miners and early adopters) can change more fluidly (changing reference and light wallets), but now it is a bit more difficult.

To conclude. We are heavily involved in the crypto-side. We love figuring out the nitty-gritty and keeping up to tabs on the various algos. It's fun! But this community encompasses soooo much more. Technical aficionados (like us), musicians, fans, speculators, etc. It's probably the first crypto-focused project that by definition is MORE than just a coin. I suspect we will see a lot of new projects follow our lead. Part of this means keeping it as user-friendly as possible. There are ways to make it easier though (if we do want to change in the future). I'm going to try and include a notification feature.

We don't need to change unless it is extremely pressing. We should rather focus on community building (tipping, telling musicians about it, etc) and infrastructure development (more exchanges, more innovative service, more projects). It's perhaps more difficult and requires more hard work, but the reward is so much greater. A community of awesome people, making awesome music with people across the world.

That's my perspective. And it shouldn't be the defacto one. So what do you guys think? Thoughts?

btw. n00bnoxious. Need to send the tipbot bounty to you. Smiley

It seems like CryptoRush isn't doing the best in terms of trust lately... I advise everyone to keep voting on MintPal. But it seems MintPal is acting weird.

What other option should we go for? Swisscex? https://swisscex.freshdesk.com/support/discussions/topics/1000010155

btw. Started on the Android wallet!
