This is because 1) is wrong.
Whats stored in the wallet are pairs of adresses and private keys. The Blockchain is where Bitcoin or better put transactions are stored. Your account balance is calcuzlated from all transactions where adresses you own were involved. This is why after syncing the blockhain your Bitcoin would disapear.

not big expert on NMC just some personal thought never thought about .bit is the reason for the price do you think people in btc-e or other exchange real care about .bit that much?
