2401  Other / Meta / Re: As the spammers seem to of started to find meta... on: October 10, 2018, 07:28:13 AM
I would suggest that all the merit sources put a hold on giving merits in meta for a while,
I thought of a merit boycott like this when Theymos made the most recent changes, but I didn't want to make a new thread in Meta about it and thought it might have been too drastic--not that any of the shitposters would have read it anyway to know that they wouldn't be able to earn merits by posting there, nor probably would that even stop them.

As with any merit giving people should just take it on a case by case basis, but I don't think we should stop giving them out in certain sections, but you can certainly stop giving them for certain types of posts. People either complaining or just 'agreeing' that the merit system is good probably shouldn't get them. If people stopped meriting posts in here then I'd probably have 98% less merits, but things like boycotts only ever work if everyone (or a significant) percentage of people are involved. There'll always be one or two users (or scabs) that make it ineffective and it's impossible to get everyone on board.

totally agree with this point - I nearly sent a merit to a bounty spammer earlier because he made a funny post.
So why didn't you merit it? Just because he is into bounties doesn't make a bad poster. I don't know who you're talking about, but if it were a funny post, then there was some thought behind it, and a merit for that won't make the world upside down or flat for that matter, unless the post was plagiarized or something, then it is a different story. Cause merit is to be given for high quality posts and not post history. Not meriting people who participate bounty in bounties is like not giving citizenship rights to a black man or a muslim guy.

This is why I think the merit requirement should be higher and put up to ten. People would probably actually be more liberal with their merit giving then and giving one out for an entertaining post should be ok, but when one merit is all somebody needs to be able to post it's dicey. One merit is far too easy to get and is too prone to abuse so I personally think we should keep the one merit to become a Junior but remove their signatures and you can only get one when you achieve ten merit and become a Member.

~snip

this is gold... how many accounts are going to get a ban on the back of this moaning fucks thread?

Not enough. Just think of all the ones we've probably missed. Just goes to show you how desperate and valuable accounts are to shitposters that they have the audacity to try get them back.

Hi my friend! This is very visible in our work. Just 1 person they know your username. They can add you to the group and receive bonuses. You can not accuse him when he is a victim. if i know your telegram username. I can do the same thing. What would you think? Be more intelligent in your allegations

I have never been signed up for a bounty - that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Please be more intelligent with your lies

"FUCKING FOOTBALL FRIEND" (I assume only some brits will get that)

For those that don't:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3igggNc8yU

Now you get your answer aside from that account is a scammer as per @xtralev and a plagiarist as per @hilariousetc.

I also doubt that the account you were talking about was from your friend. I think you are the owner of that account or just using an alt account

Is that important? The point here is that forums should give reasons for their actions. This also blocks spam. One simple thing is that I will not create this topic when I know the reason is locked. Your allegations are from a long time ago. When he's still a newbie. He has no experience and new training. He can not avoid mistakes. Do you dare to confirm to me, in the past you have not done anything wrong? you are a bamboo. you are a flood of jobs. you are zombie. fuck

If you read the rules you'd know what you were banned for. In fact, if you read the rules you wouldn't have been banned in the first place, but you should know copy and pasting isn't acceptable.

Also your "husband" lists himself on his face book as "female" and "single"  Roll Eyes

Are you saying he is cheating bounties with a fake identity ?

Is he pretending to be a young female that so more guys follow him on twitter and facebook?

This is your husband right ?

Somebody should create a thread of all or the best "family & friend" banned excuses. Doubt any will top this one though: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2544574.msg46576373#msg46576373
2403  Other / Meta / Re: Wall of fame / shame. Shit posts so bad that they are actually funny on: October 10, 2018, 06:58:37 AM
Can somebody please explain to me what could have been the thing the OP wanted to say with "you are a flood of jobs". Usually I am able to understand what the creators of these shitposts wanted to say which makes them even more funny. But this one is out of my league Smiley

Running this through google translate it seems that there are two words in Filipino
baha and apaw that can mean flood, but apaw means also dumb, which fits a bit in the picture.

But god knows what google translate did in the "jobs" case.

Ps.
I dropped him a message asking what he wanted to say by that  Grin Grin

It could be just some way of saying you're an idiot and are doing a bad job. I was going to say that things probably just get lost in translation. There might be local language insults that have no meaning in English and when you're using translating software it just garbles it up even more. You've got to remember a good portion of posters here might even be illiterate in their own language so that will just make the translator job even worse especially when you're trying to make sense of something that never made any in the first place.

Another good one for you. This poster was mocking me for my bad English but ironically I was mocking shitposters for theirs:

You are a legendary and writes bitcoib, yeah you deserve that level, pity on you and yeah it is like loosing my dignity now bothering you here. Excuse ? ohh come on do we need to submit our marriage certificate and our system IP address for you who is not even a DT member and completely misleads our valuable time with your undeserving comments and redtrust. Get lost, cheap guy.

Please learn to comprehend English. I already explained the origin of the 'Bitcoib is my succesfull'. It's a joke mocking shitposters like you. Just like I'm also mocking you calling me a 'highly educated moran'.

Bitcoin is my way
Bitcoin is my partner
Bitcoin is my rich
Bitcoin is destination
Bitcoin is my hobby
Bitcoib is my succesfull

And no, your marriage certificate won't prove anything other than you are married. Your excuse that you're husband and wife and follow each other around the forum posting back to back is laughable. Just go away. Shitposters like you have ruined the forum.
You itself is a shit here at first you are not an authorized DT member to do this and posting these type by an unauthorized shitter like you is exactly spoiling bitcointalk forum and you are just undeserving to speak here with your imbalanced assumptions moreover when you said to my better half that you are about to remove the redtrust that proves we did not commit any mistake on the forum. If i use a direct tone that you are an educated moron that is an uneducated moron. Lift up your head and spit on yourself that is your deserving un educated analysis here. Burger off your undervalued certifications, you are not the right person to teach us what to do.
2404  Economy / Reputation / Re: Merit begging on: October 10, 2018, 06:47:08 AM
You can leave negative feedback for any reason you wish if you think it's appropriate, but I would either just report the post and/or tell him to stop it as it's likely to get him negative eventually if he keeps doing it. That users posts are trash but I can't see any other place he's begged for it so maybe a warning will suffice.

People shouldn't stop giving merits in here but they should stop meriting merit beggars who come in here to either whine at merit or fake 'agree' that it's a great system in the hope that they get one (which a lot of time they have been even though you know they're probably crying with rage behind the keyboard but are just smart enough to know that complaining won't be as effective).

For me , it will better disable signature from meta(imo). So it will reduce spam post. But I don't think it will happen. Regarding handover merit, it's depends on merit source and high rank member's.  They should concentrent others board as you said. There is quality post but need spend time to find. Obviously few members are trying to change posting behaviour. We should also need to welcome new member's. After implement new merit system I am trying to spend merit few new quality poster instead of send merit to high ranks.

Disabling signatures in this sub board isn't going to stop them fishing for merits here. Most of them are Newbies who can't even have a signature until they get a merit and that's why they post here looking for them, but there are worse boards for sig spam. Why aren't you making the case that we remove signatures from Bitcoin Discussion since that's the sub board with the most spam and has been ruined the most? Removing signatures from there would surely resolve that?

Hope the ICO plan will be successful

You know things are bad when people start copying spam because they can't be bothered coming with something original. Purchasing a Copper Membership doesn't mean you can get away with breaking the rules.

I cant be a mod, appreciate the votes but I cannot dedicate the time, I find it hard enough handing out all my merits right now due to all the shitposts.. Also I cant be politically correct so I wouldn't be suited to the role.

Why would you have to be politically correct? All you need to be able to do is follow and enforce the rules here as impartially as you can (which there aren't that many rules anyway). If you've got a high report count with a decent accuracy and are not a complete arse or troll then there's probably not much else that qualifies someone to be a mod or not.

Is there anyway to identify the list of people who have reported most? Because those kind of people were deserved to be mods.

Only theymos has access to those stats. He posts them occasionally but hasn't in a while. He sent me the top reporters in Bitcoin Discussion a few months ago after I requested them, but no further action was taken.
2410  Other / Meta / Re: Merit Distribution like Wealth Distribution. Inequality? on: October 09, 2018, 08:25:03 AM

Is it like poverty? Where is it the state of being inferior to the ones who have a lot of Merits?

No. It's a state of people being lazy, incompetent and entitled. Letting anyone and everyone earn from signature campaigns is like giving jobs to people who are not qualified to do them. Should everyone be allowed to be a brain surgeon? No. Should everyone be an electrician? No. If you're not qualified to do a job then you don't get that job. Simple. Should everyone be able to earn from signature campaigns here? No. If you can't speak English and know nothing about bitcoin then you shouldn't be allowed to earn here via such a way. Merit should be the qualification or aptitude test to show that you're qualified to earn via posting since campaign managers can't be trusted to hold some sort of minimum standards, and this 'qualification' should be much higher than one merit.

The clue is in the name of merit:

Quote
merit
ˈmɛrɪt/Submit
noun
1.
the quality of being particularly good or worthy, especially so as to deserve praise or reward.

All you need to do is make posts that are notable, but obviously this is too hard for most of the idiot kids here. If you make great posts then you will get enough merit eventually. If you're a shitposter then you won't. That's it. Anything else is just whining and whinging because they now actually have to make some effort to actually get anywhere instead of just getting paid to churn out generic nonsense over however many accounts they have which is useless to everyone apart from the signature campaigns who pay for it and that's the issue and why we need something like the merit system, but it certainly doesn't go far enough.
2411  Other / Meta / Re: QUALITY over quantity! on: October 09, 2018, 06:16:51 AM

Why not just close the thread if it exceeds up to more than 10 pages, I doubt OP hasn't got the answers he need after that 10 pages. Or maybe there is a system that if someone has to reply to a thread considered to be a MEGA thread has to pass a captcha and has to wait for a minute or 2 before he can finally post. Some kind of a price to pay when posting to a mega thread, a merit maybe?

Since when does a thread mean it's done after ten pages? Spammers won't care about that and they will just open another one either just with a slightly reworded title or 'shit thread part 2' etc. We need to tackle the issue at the source and that is campaigns that continually pay for drivel. Spam posts in spam threads shouldn't be getting paid but until that happens then nothing much will change and it's just pissing in the wind.

The sentencing is just ridiculous imo, even if it was true that he tried to have people killed.
Sure, attempted murder should land you in prison for a couple of years at minimum, but a life sentence is too much even for those serious accusations.
Just my two cents though... I'm sure that people will disagree.

The murder for hire charges aren't relevant to the time he got because he wasn't charged for them at his trial, but I don't get why attempting to hire someone to have someone killed is less serious than actual attempted murder. The outcome would have still been the same with a life being lost and that person being responsible for that.

OP. Do you have any proof of your claim, that the 2 convicted agents had access on Ross U. computer and have been tampering evidence on it?

the Murder for higher being dropped should be enough proof.

This isn't proof. Lots of times charges get dropped for a multitude of reasons even if they know the person is guilty of them (or highly likely to be). A lot of plea deals often involve more serious charges being dropped in exchange for a guilty plea on lesser charges. The state doesn't care as long as they get you locked up with as less fuss as possible.

they based the guilty verdict and conviction off of pending charges (the murder for hire) off of a crime that was later dropped.

Says who? They convicted him of money laundering and running a darknet market amongst other things. It's running the darknet market that got him life, as harsh as that may be.

It was dropped, because there was no evidence that the actual murders took place and not because the corrupt cops were tampering something on Ross U's computer. Ross still intended to kill 6 people to protect his 'drug empire', which has been clear from the chatlogs, which were obv. not tampered.

I don't think it was dropped because of that. Attempting to have someone killed regardless of it happening is still a serious crime. It was probably dropped because they didn't need it to send him down and the murder for hires did include the corrupt agents (from what I remember) so it could have even been entrapment, but they probably wanted to leave the corruption of the agents out of the trial if they could for obvious reasons.
2413  Other / Meta / Re: Vote for new moderators who deserve it. @theymos please take a look. on: October 09, 2018, 05:54:04 AM
I think now, after the change and the new restriction the situation is much better.

I don't really think new moderators /in the English section at least/ are needed. I think we need more time to see if is still needed.

What? How so? Nothing much has changed other than shitposters now need one merit and once they get that it's business as usual (and it's really not hard to get at all whether you buy it or not). Bitcoin Discussion is still a spam fest and people are still shitting up it up 24/7 and that's not going to change anytime soon or until signature campaigns are punished for paying for spam. In the meantime we can add some mods to help clean the place up.

Wow - just became aware of this thread and I am honored that I am ranked second behind LoyceV!

I feel I am already an unpaid moderator.  I leave damning remarks, hand out coveted merit, and get harassed via PM and email for removal or donation of the same, all for no compensation.

I would welcome a promotion to Moderator, simply because I have spent five years here helping out for free.  Smiley

(I doubt this poll will have any effect on new moderators...)

I thought you'd previously said you didn't want to be a mod? I think some of the long-time users who are reporting loads probably should be made mods as certain people have obviously put in the work and would be beneficial as staff members. More staff members have left than have been added over the years and the forum only continues to grow so we need to meet demand and workload is never ending.
2414  Other / Meta / Re: Is it possible to reach a high rank nowadays? on: October 09, 2018, 05:47:46 AM
You seem to have gotten your first 2 merits easily enough (by making this topic). So you are your own proof one can make progress here.

People really should stop meriting shitposters whining about merit in Meta. It just has a knock on effect so more people create a thread trying their luck and fishing for some merit. This guy is worse because obviously he has alts that he doesn't want to bring attention to and probably because they're all making terrible posts and his argument would have been shot down straight away for that alone.

This is turning slowly in a megathread but I'll leave here my two satoshi.

I wonder how long it is before Meta is taken over by shitposters repeating the same thing page after page.

He broke the law, that's a fact, but I can't imagine someone getting a life sentence in any European country for creating a website. It's restricted only to most dangerous, hardened criminals. Even murderers get between 15 and 25 years in prison.

It was more, far more, than just a website.

And the chances are that if he'd been another nationality he would've wound up being extradited to the US anyway.

He could have fought extradition. If I was going to run something like a darknet site I'd do it from a country that doesn't have an extradition process with the States at least.

Dark web markets are one of the biggest reasons why Bitcoin came on the black list of many. Some people still think if Bitcoin is used for illegal goods and services it's illegal itself.
Also some think in a wrong way that tsking down illegal dark web narkets and putting their creators and runners into jail it's an action against Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. But that isn't so and to my opinion someone who runs places where you can buy drugs, weapons, child pornography and similar deserves to be punished and that will not harm Bitcoin, just the opposite.

Silk Road and darknet markets also had a huge part to play in the growth and usage of bitcoin. In fact, I first heard about Bitcoin due to the media coverage of Silk Road.

BTW, has anyone read Curtis Green's book about this?

No, but I'd like to. I'm not sure if it's available online yet. The website he gave on a podcast he was on recently isn't online yet and the ebook link on Amazon is dead:

https://www.amazon.com/Silk-Road-Takedown-Curtis-Green-ebook/dp/B07GFJ23RN

And the physical copy is sold out or not available: https://www.amazon.com/Silk-Road-Takedown-Curtis-Green/dp/1726077470/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1538736407&sr=8-1&keywords=Silk+Road+Takedown

He did mention he's recording the audiobook version so I'll probably just grab that from Audible when it becomes available: https://twitter.com/ilovepoker/status/1043364624039440391

WTF WAS THE PENALTY GIVEN TO MAHREZ?  Jesus H Christ!!!

It was a penalty, poor tackle by VVD which is rare because he’s usually so calm. Very lucky to get away with a draw considering we were facing a penalty on 85 mins. I think a draw is probably a fair result though in the end, both teams showed each other a lot of respect.

I would definitely have taken a draw before the match.

It was obviously a penalty, but I think he's asking why they let Mahrez take it. Regardless, it was a very silly penalty to give away as he was going nowhere and unlikely to get one on target from that angle. Should have just ran the ball out or blocked the shot if he even managed to get one away which I doubt. City deserved to win, but I though Liverpool deserved a point also, and glad I got at least another point from the draw. Boring international break now.
2417  Other / Meta / Re: Request mods to ban user game-protect and jolly good on: October 08, 2018, 07:40:17 AM
I've spoke with many site owners and they all have a similar story, that game-protect has private messaged them threatening to report them to authorities unless they send him Bitcoin.
Or he threatens them with scam reports on his website if they don't send him Bitcoin.

Do you have proof of this behaviour? I have heard similar accusations in the past against game-protect but have seen no hard evidence. This would be extortion so if you provide proof of this then this probably wouldn't be tolerated.

I even had to make a new self moderated thread so that they couldn't post hundreds of FUD posts in it. They still do post and I have to delete daily.

They can be banned for this if they violate your local rules (as long as they were set out at the start). Hopefully on the new forum software you should be able to just ban certain users from even posting there in the first place which would make this self-modding more efficient.
2418  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 229: Khabib vs McGregor Prediction and Info Thread on: October 08, 2018, 07:32:55 AM
^^  hilariousandco, I think this is different.  Khabib and a couple of other guys commited at least three cases of battery live on PPV in front of 25m - 50m viewers worldwide.  I don't know if Khabib will get off this one lightly.

I don't think it's that much different at all. Conor smashing up the bus unprovoked is just as bad. Doesn't matter whether there are cameras or not, but people obviously have their biases. Khabib shouldn't have done what he did, but I'm not sure we can say he is 100% responsible for what his team do either on the night and probably had little to no control over what they did. I'm sure there's much more to this that we actually know right now as well.

McGregor's only hope is if he takes this fight into his own game which he needs to be standing up right with both of his hands prepared to strike a KO, that is if he is smart to do so or if his body can, it also depends on how Khabib will play this out. McGregor is really the underdog here as his last match in the octagon being two years will really put him in a disadvantage in terms of experience and him having a big break in his pro mma career will also be a big factor as his fight IQ might not be as good as Khabib's. It would be a miracle to see him win this bout.

You are wrong. Khabib's fight IQ is very much lower than Conor's fight IQ. I am not telling you this because I like Conor more than Khabib, I like both of them. But Khabib is a 1 dimensional person, while Conor McGregor is a deep thinker and has studied more on the soft skills of martial arts and combat more than Khabib.

Conor is an open thinker and has used different techniques to improve his martial arts. An example of this is learning the movements of Ido Portal which as something that he was ridiculed in the MMA community. But it worked as witnessed in his fight versus Jose Aldo.

Doesn't matter how one dimensional you are if it wins you fights. Khabib is undefeated, so it's obviously working. Conor should have worked his magic whilst he was standing. The better fighter won here. Ido Portal seems to be a gimmick to me and I'm not sure how he had anything to do with Conor's one-punch knock out of Aldo. Conor might be able to move like liquid before the fight but he's not jumping around the ring like spiderman during it. If he actually used those skills to avoid getting hit or taken down then I might give more credit to Portal.

People paying for good reviews is so commonplace that I can't see why doing the opposite, and that too for a non-BTC related business would be worthy of a neg

Just because people do this doesn't make it alright. Leaving untrue feedbacks (both positive and negative) can hurt both the business and customers. People buy merit and accounts here, but that doesn't mean it isn't shady and people are rightly left negative feedback for this. How is this any different? If somebody offered payment to either positive or negative trust them or someone else here we all know what would happen. This is fraud and you're paying people to lie and those who accept money for this are complete sell outs and can't be trusted because they will clearly lie or do things immoral just for payment.
2420  Other / Meta / Re: Username Changes on: October 08, 2018, 07:01:33 AM

Username Changes

I personally think this should be also prioritized by Theymos. Why? I'm pretty sure some people here did a bad move in the past by using a username that is either:

Somewhat related to their real name
The same username as their other usernames on other websites

And what happens when people change their name here to try hide their 'crimes' or wrongdoing (either here or elsewhere)?

Which is a huge risk, as people can get doxxed easily. Similar to what happened to Hhampuz(if I remember correctly, not sure if it was him).

People should be careful with what information they put online and we can't be responsible for this. If someone is lazy with their personal info then that's something they are responsible for and need to protect themselves.

How to stop shady people from hiding using name changes
Put a name change history on people's profiles. Yes, people here on bitcointalk can see your previous usernames on your profile(probably make it so that only members and up can see them?).

If your info is online then someone can find it and implementing name changes (that are even logged) isn't going to stop anything. People could just create an external site that logs all name changes and that shows up on google. This seems like a feature that will just be abused by the nefarious more than will actually save innocent people, and again, people should just learn to be much more careful with their personal info because once it's out there it's likely not going to go away regardless of whether we let people change their name here.
