2421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Teaching college students about Bitcoin on: June 17, 2022, 10:16:13 PM
Teaching college students is one thing, but teaching older people would be even more beneficial, like classes on youtube and other course material websites are a lot more valuable. Because, someone who is 18 years old could care about it and listen and learn, but majority of college students do not really listen and learn these things. They end up just going to college for fun and they end up not doing anything regarding studying all that much.

This means that if they end up with something profitable for them, then they could end up with a big deal in the long run after a while. So just focus on people who are 30+ years old, who will actually listen and care.

There is nothing wrong if you teach older people about bitcoin but it will be very hard to convince them to start because they are brought up to understand the financial burden of government, even if you manage to Persuade them to invest, they wouldn't vibe it like the younger generation, the young ones are way more inquisitive to learning and smart.
They say the young ones are the leaders tomorrow, let them be the leaders of Bitcoin, let them embrace bitcoin now and grow to it, by the time they becomes use to it, they wouldn't rush to the banks like our parents did back over years till now.
2422  Economy / Economics / Re: Crashes are The Best Times to Get Rich - Robert Kiyosaki on: June 17, 2022, 10:03:45 PM
He stated that if the Bitcoin market continues to plunge, he is ready to get in and start buying.  His entry window is when BTC touches $20k

He is ready to buy or he is already buying? Because I don't know how down he think the price could go, it's possible that we may plunge from here or may be we have bottom out.
This is the best advice you can give to anyone who have been on the fence through out the bull market to have a chance to start crypto journey, those who made out millions started during the last beer market, now is the time to become the next bull run millionaire.
However, this advice can only ginger new investors, those who have refuse to sell are still holding and those who were scared have cashout in profits and also in loss for fomo buyers.
2423  Economy / Economics / Re: How can I survive in a place where BTC is restricted? on: June 17, 2022, 09:33:22 PM
Despite tte ban, China is still one of the big place where crypto venture capitals hailed from, most of them have migrated out of Hong Kong and close their offices due to this heavy restrictions.
I don't know how good you are with the internet but there is always ways out of any hard situations if you are smart since you still want to buy and hold bitcoin.
We have p2p places where bitcoin can be bought without kyc information, you are paired with either a buyer and a seller anytime you want to do crypto transaction and everything will looks like nothing ever happens in the first place.
You can also decoy your wallet by having two wallet address, used two passphrase for the two, write them down and fund one with all your bitcoin and the other one with little change of Bitcoin. Always make sure that the one with little change is the one you always display by default in case they want to seized your wallet. That's the way you can enjoy buying, selling and holding bitcoin in those countries.
2424  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: El Salvador loses more than half the value of its reserves in bitcoins on: June 17, 2022, 09:15:29 PM
IMF, another group of big boys who always want to control a country because of the little support they offer to their members, this is why I like countries who don't buy their idea to be among them.
El Salvador are so confident about their bitcoin, if their portfolio isn't upto 0.5% of their reserve, then I see no reason why IMF has been so adamant they should remove bitcoin as a legal tender, it could be a threat to their
researve due to it's volatility but where is the effect of 0.5% from 100% and moreover, the btc they underate today as 0.5% may 2x their reserve tomorrow, that's bitcoin for you.
2425  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you realize that you are an economist without a degree? on: June 17, 2022, 03:30:25 PM
certainly that such knowledge gives certain advantages, but if you don't have enough courage to leave all other current jobs and dedicate yourself only to economics, then you can't call yourself an economist.
for example, you can watch on Youtube various videos of someone renovating or building a house, you will probably learn many things (even some wrong) but that won't make you an architect, right?

But it is not necessary to leave a profession for another, we have some people who have 2-3 degrees in different fields and they killed it anytime they activate any of them. You can be a Medical doctor and still be an economist, you can be an evangelist and still be an economist, you can be a philanthropist and still be an economist, you can also be a musician, a fashionista and still be an economist. Although, anyone can be professional in all but there is one they always dedicate time to and like the most.
2426  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It is a poor practice to recommend wallet without sharing main tips for newbies on: June 17, 2022, 02:56:40 PM
Thank you for coming through, Pooya87. I've been trapped in ch05.asciidoc, struggling to finish the derivation path, but you helped me out.

This is solved in Electrum by including a version number that carries this information.

I think this is where the problem lies and I have done more investigation on it. You can manually generate the derivation path in any way that you prefer but most often, each wallet has its default settings, however, the Electrum wallet does not produce BIP39 seed words due to the inherent version number. To verify this statement, I tried to create a new legacy wallet using the seed word I generated earlier, but it always detected it as segwit, and when I changed the option to BIP39 seed, the checksum was invalid, which proves the electrum seed phrase is not BIP39.

I blur some part of the seed phrase, it is for test Tongue

For further satisfaction, I used https://iancoleman.io/bip39/ to verify the same seed phrase, it says invalid Mnemonic, which means that it is the seed phrase generated from electrum wallet and not derivation path.

I played with the Iancoleman converter to flip between BIP44 and BIP84, and I discovered how versatile a seed phrase can be when creating segwit and legacy addresses. The cool thing is that when you produce a seed phrase with https://iancoleman.io/bip39/, it gives you a default derivation path for segwit as m/84'/0'/0'/0 and m/44'/0'/0'/0 for legacy, but the structures and addresses changes when I modify the values of each level.
2427  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It is a poor practice to recommend wallet without sharing main tips for newbies on: June 17, 2022, 07:19:39 AM
The only answer to give to newbies is to suggest to do their own researches. There is literature everywhere, we are not in 2010 anymore.

A response should be concise, you don't need pages of paper to get some info.

You can't use the segwit address seed phrase to create a Legacy address in an Electrum wallet due to the wallet's unique seed scheme.
It is not because of the scheme, it is because the wallet has to be recoverable and if you create different address types from a single seed phrase the recovery process becomes more complicated since the wallet would have to generate all address types at different derivation paths which would also increase the time it takes to create the wallet for the first time.
But if you only create one type, the recovery is pretty easy.
The same challenge is present if the mnemonic type is BIP39.

Is there complexity to encoded random numbers? is BIP 39 not just to encode random numbers for humans to easily understand instead of writing down bits of randomly generated numbers.
When you create a wallet from seed, you have a bunch of trees of addresses to handle as every extended key can create child keys and I think BIP 43 and BIP 44 already solve those problems.
So, irrespective of any seed phrase that you have, the derivation path should help you locate your coins as long as the seed phrase is the standard from 2048 words.

For example, I derived a seed phrase below:

repair fold vacuum wheat concert blast rail vivid absurd reject frog badge seminar bus habit

This is a 15 word mnemonic word or 160 bits of entropy (165 when you add the checksum) and if I want to create two different wallet addresses, that should be enough to generate a Legacy address (1xxxxxx....) and segwit (bcq1xxxx.....) with different derivation path:

Either m/44'/0'/0'/0 for my legacy address and m/84'/0'/0'/0 for segwit

But the problem with Electrum wallet is that, it doesn't work like that, any seed phrase you generate to create a segwit address, you cannot use the same seed phrase to generate a legacy address, and it will be much work to have two seed phrase as storage.
2428  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / It is a poor practice to recommend wallet without sharing main tips for newbies on: June 16, 2022, 05:36:53 PM
There are a few things that matter sometimes, especially when giving advice to newbies. It happens that creates a seed phrase from Electrum due to its lightweight with just the block height of transactions and fast synchronization, in addition, it can be used online with airgap devices that are not connected to the internet like on the operating system of Ubuntu and TailOS. This is the recommendation you get from most of the replies in the Beginner & Help board when anyone wants to set up a wallet environment and is limited to hardware wallets like Tezors and Ledger, but I was hooked when I wanted to create a legacy wallet address from my already existing recovery phrase.

When I tried to construct a new wallet with the original seed phrase I used to get a regular segwit address, it didn't work until I read this guy old comments:

You can't "convert" your existing Electrum wallet from SegWit to Legacy, you would need to create a completely new wallet (File -> New\Restore -> Standard Wallet -> Create New Seed) and then specify the "Legacy" option when asked what seed type you want to use:

You can't use the segwit address seed phrase to create a Legacy address in an Electrum wallet due to the wallet's unique seed scheme. I was aware that Electrum has a different standard for generating BIP-39 seed words, but it'll be a lot of work to secure two different recovery phrases and manage bitcoins on two different wallets.

Please always share the necessary information when making recommendations for newbies, it's been almost 7 months since I generated a segwit address, and I only tried to build a legacy from it yesterday but it didn't work, but I'm relieved now.
2429  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is the crash in bitcoin price a threat to forum existence? on: June 16, 2022, 03:17:22 PM
Bitcoins and its related discussions is the subject matter and major objective why this forum was first created after bitcoins from my observation, but considering the current dump in bitcoin, assuming that the prices never goes up and bitcoin ceases to exist or looses value completely, will this forum continue to function?

If bitcointalk didn't crash during the market's pandemic, I don't think it'll be affected by the short-term sell pressures. I wasn't here, but I had some shitcoins back then and I was watching the market bleed like crazy, the whole world was shaking, and what was coming out of every media was Covid and financial collapse, job losses, food shortages, warehouse break-ins by hoodlums, and movement restrictions in almost all countries, but today, we have just food shortages and high inflation, with institutional investors and retailers withdrawing some of their money. Don't worry, the forum will function normally, although there will likely be a small number of newbies.
2430  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: HODLing strong! on: June 16, 2022, 03:04:52 PM
You wouldn't understand the pain of being a hodl until you have some sats in your wallets dangling to market manipulation, and the painful thing is that, watching the market rally from a low price to a high price without selling and then seeing it dump bark on you can be painful and regret can set in for some people, but personally, I don't care because Bitcoin has done it several times and always prove to investors and the patience one that it works and will continue to work.

I have seen these types of holders and they don't care whatever you say. Everyone is entitled to do as they want. There is no point forcing someone to sell or take profit when they don't want to. The truth still remains that hodling is key to maximizing profits.

Some people have lost confidence in the market, and they are selling because they have no idea what's going on (except for inflation, which has been going on for a long time). When bitcoin starts pumping again, they will start crying and FOMO again, and the cycle of losing money to big whales continues indefinitely.

2431  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Teaching college students about Bitcoin on: June 16, 2022, 10:26:01 AM
I once had a one on one discussion about bitcoin with my friend's students, they were so ready to learn but I was focused on privacy, how important it is for everyone and how not to break it for any cash back. I used them as an example and some things they kept secret within themselves, I encourage them to employ that with finances, investments and personal information to be within them and should not in any way let it go in the hands of anyone. Their mistress was giving me this weird look by the window but I know my students got the message I was passing to them and I was happy I did.

....

You blur your image, can you do the same for those kids? They are still under their parents and I don't think you have the permission to publish their faces on the internet, Please blur it for their own privacy too.

Edit: The images has been blurred.

Link from the source is either broken or removed, couldn't dig it from here.

I saw that image on Twitter yesterday but I'm not sure if your source was from Twitter: https://twitter.com/lopp/status/1537126860911480832

I have queried the search button to see the profile on bitcointalk but it wasn't found, was the profile deleted?

There is also a post like this in the german local forum, wehre somebody is very disappointed that BTC is again at 10 € and is wondering if it will ever go up again.

What happened to all those users, all are inactive, they look just like regular users who created accounts back then and never visit again.

Bitcoin has been in existence since 2009, any child born from that year to now will be a teen by now, those who are panicking here and there because of small FUD will come back again when they grow old and will bite their tongue for running because of inflation that has been in existence before the world war.

2436  Other / Off-topic / Re: Irony of Life on: June 15, 2022, 08:53:22 AM
Well, I agree and disagree, not everyone undergoes hardship in life, there are many people that were born with silver spoon, their life is full of roses right from their child birth, they don't know what it takes to put square meal on the table and they grow up to represent their families inheritance.

Life is full of surprises for many though but we can't stop planning, we can't stop pushing, keep your heads up because the journey is full of bumps and that's what makes us stronger, your success will be another person tips and guide.

Back to your neighbor, what is he crying like a baby who is new to investment, you said he sold his gold and properties, he should knows the con and pros of investments, he didn't just wake up from slumb and decided to switch his assets into bitcoin. What's even the point of crying when he is only having an unrealized loss, you don't lose in bitcoin investment until you sell. So, cheer him up and guide him through this thick and thin beer market, one day, he will remember this moment and laugh it out when the bulls returns with gains.
2437  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC on other chains is not BTC on: June 15, 2022, 12:59:43 AM
I don't know about others, but I don't think this Defi locking up actual Bitcoin to acquire Xbitcoin on another chain is a good idea. If the token of that chain is so valuable and has the tendency to become one of the most valuable coins like bitcoin, they wouldn't want to lock up people's bitcoin on any protocol merely to promote liquidity, that's what BSC, SOl, ETH, FTM, and other layer 1 and 2 projects are doing, and it's always likely that the real Bitcoin on-chain, which is locked up in the protocol, may be compromised, just the way we experienced Celcius halted withdrawals and asset swapping. If you treasure your bitcoin, always say no when offered an alternate chain, the Bitcoin chain has always been the safest and has never gone down for a second.
2438  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA Champions League Discussion Thread -- 2021/22 winner - Real Madrid! on: June 15, 2022, 12:36:21 AM
Benzema has earned maximum respect for Real Madrid and as the current face of Real Madrid. I don't think it will be a problem for Benzema if CR7 comes back to Real Madrid. In addition, Cristiano Ronaldo is a name that attracts attention in the fans and in the media. Real Madrid failed in the transfer of Kylian Mbappé and only a big name like Crisitiana Ronaldo can close this file.

Seeing that his performances in Real Madrid have remained among the best in all of the teams to which he has transferred, I don't believe Ronaldo would want to return to Real Madrid, and you should be aware that times have changed. It wasn't like before, when Benzema would always stand by the side of crowds, cheering for others; now he wanted to represent even at his age, and you know, the jungle can't have two kings.

Mbape is still young and has a lot of potentials, but the fact that he gave them hope to come to Real Madrid and then switched because of money is a black mark on his career. Real Madrid fans booed him on the red carpet at one event last week and spread him water, and he deserved it. He should go and learn from notable players who were once like him and faded out.
2439  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have you Considered a Career in Betting Consultancy? on: June 14, 2022, 08:34:06 PM
If you're that good at cracking the code of bookies and sportsbooks, do you really need a career in another company? I don't think so, it would have been more profitable if you be a self-employed, use the knowledge to become a millionaire. I even doubt the authenticity of this career, I have not seen anyone close to reality, the ones I see online will have a group instead of a career and give some sure odds that give players a high chance of winning the stake.
There is money in gambling, I don't think it is ideal for anyone to say they are sure of knowing shortcuts in casinos except if that person has an insider, I really have doubt about this career my friend.
2440  Economy / Gambling / Re: What is a game you would like to see in an online crypto casino? on: June 14, 2022, 08:13:34 PM
I may say, this is a rhetorical question because all most all the  games can be played online and people play all kinds of games. So if you want to launch a casino games online, just compile all the games and create the site, make sure the site is attractive and the games should be well created and also your payment skill should be very smooth and transparent.
And you can add all the games you mentioned. Make sure there should be no issue or problem in any of the games.

There are some functionality the phones and Pc operating systems can take and you can't play them on an online casino, so I think your generalization is wrong when you say all games can be played on casinos online. In addition, I have not seen FIFA in casinos, and complex games like Alien war and in these games, I have seen people playing as multiple players but not in casinos. While it is possible that there may be some lagging in some casinos, I don't think there used to be complaints about casino games, series of the bounty are always conducted on Beta before a full release for the public.
