2421  Other / Meta / Re: Is it possible to reach a high rank nowadays? on: October 08, 2018, 06:43:24 AM
After signing up to this forum only today i have a few comments to make regarding the ranking system.

Is this actually the truth? I'd bet money you just decided to hop onto a brand new account as to not draw attention to your 'main' account(s).

I have been using crypto for a long period of time and have often used bitcointalk and read links from here but just never bothered to make an account because i didn't see any reason to as i could already read anything i wanted on here without having one.

*Sniffs* I smell something. Could that be the whiff of bullshit emanating from somewhere? So let me get this straight: You never bothered to make an account on this bitcoin forum because you didn't need one, but the merit system is the catalyst for you to start doing that? If this was true then you would have nothing to complain about. The ranking or merit system stops nobody at all from reading or even posting. It merely stops low quality posters from rising through the ranks, and I'm not sure why this has given you the passion to start posting here unless it somehow directly effects you (which I'm almost certain this is the case).

as the title suggests is it possible for people to rank up on here still? If i was to have signed up to here a couple of years ago i could easily have progressed through the ranks but with the strict rules imposed by the regime in charge i think it is virtually impossible to pass the rank of jr member.

It's virtually impossible for shitposters to do so (without cheating). If I created a new anon account today I'm certain I would be able to achieve the ranks even within the timeframe it took me to get the required merit. Any decent-to-great poster should have little problem rising through the ranks, but again, it's the spammers that will struggle, and that's a good thing.

To gain enough merit without being a well known or already established user of the forum would take such a considerable effort that any user would also need a stroke a pure luck to even reach member rank now. The chances of being merited even a few times are very small let alone gaining hundreds of merits.

You're saying people shouldn't have to put effort into their posts? Should we keep rewarding laziness and greed? Shitposters may now need 'pure luck', but the rest just need to make decent posts. Not difficult at all. If you made one great post here you could easily get ten merit for that alone and you can receive a max of 50 per user so there's nothing stopping someone from making a great post that receives hundreds of merits. The problem is 95% of people aren't making great posts hence the need for the merit system in the first place.

I think Bitcointalk has a responsibility as the largest forum of it's kind to the crypto-users of the world to provide a fair, open, informative and balanced platform for everyone.

It doesn't have a responsibility to anyone, but anyone can come here and post. Not everybody should be able to come here and earn by posting though, especially if you are not qualified or trusted to do so. I'd say getting some merit is a good competency test for that, but the merit requirement should be higher (at least ten to get a signatures, preferably much, much more).

Although the user base has grown at an incredible speed, hopefully bitcointalk can be adapted to the new climate and continue being there for the community as it was originally intended.

How has this changed? It's still here for the community. Ranks are completely irrelevant to this. This forum was originally intended as place to discuss bitcoin, but sadly it's been hijacked by illiterate shitposters who don't even care about bitcoin coming here with dozens of accounts each just to earn by spamming, hence the need for the merit system.

Hopefully there will be some loosening of these rules or an entirely new system implemented sometime in the near future so new users are able to participate in all that this great forum has to offer. Well that's my 5 cents worth, thanks for reading.

Umm, can you again tell me what rules need to be loosened to allow people to participate here? What is stopping people from participating? Nothing stopped you and ironically the merit system even gave you the motivation to bother signing up for the first time *cough* bullshit *cough*. The rules aren't tight enough regarding spammers and one merit being required changes very little, especially when people merit whingers like you. I think theymos should implement a new system though. Remove all signatures and all airdropped merit, and then you don't get a signature at all until you've earned 1000+ merit. That will sort the what from the chaff. Let's see spammers ever earn that. Problem solved.
2422  Other / Meta / Re: QUALITY over quantity! on: October 07, 2018, 12:29:05 PM
As if spammers can't upvote or downvote.

Yeah. The spammers are the ones with the most accounts and some of them literally have hundreds so they could easily just take advantage of that to keep spam threads active so they can easily spam in. A much better way of tackling the spam issue and low quality posts would be to attack the problem at the source and that is signature campaigns that pay for it. They need to be punished if they continually pay for spam threads and the rubbish that gets posted in them and if that is stopped then so would the spam. If we continue to allow ICOs to pay for whatever crap they want then nothing will change regardless of any system we try put in place.

Noticed this account yesterday. The account has been auto-locked for possibly being compromised but there's some obvious shenanigans going on here. The last two he merited are registered the same day:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2281269 svetlankabtt     July 14, 2018,

These two were both merited back to back and have 797 in the name:

Can't say whether they're all alts of the op or he's just selling the merit but they should probably be tagged for abuse either way.

2424  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 229: Khabib vs McGregor Prediction and Info Thread on: October 07, 2018, 11:52:13 AM
Just watched it this morning. The ending was more exiting than the fight. Most people predicted that Khabib would just be too strong for him on the ground but McGregor should have done more damage whilst he was upright.

All that anticipation and adrenaline, and we get basically nothing from McGregor.  He got owned out there.  I'm very very VERY disappointed.  Is it ring rust?

You've got to give him credit for even taking the Khabib fight in the first place, especially it being the first fight after years being away from MMA. I thought he would have come back and fought some bums first before taking on any champions.

Anyway...  I don't think Khabib will be given a license to fight in Vegas for a little while after brawling with McGregor's camp.  Which is LOL btw...

It was silly of him, but McGregor has done things just as bad. Lets not forget he jumped into the audience one time which could have easily gone as sour, and then the whole bus incident that he got off lightly with. I'd actually like to see them both fight again. Maybe they will if Khabib is stripped of the belt which is a possibility. McGregor should probably have a couple of less challenging fights before he takes him on again though.

2425  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cloudbet's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: October 07, 2018, 11:42:48 AM
I thought to have done disastrously wrong in today games, but I see I have done 5.5 points so far and only two persons did better than me while many others did the same score. I am 11th and I have an 8.5 points difference with 1st place. It is really tight with this CLOSE 1.5 score of SUPERBRU.

Easily my worst week. Only two points so far. If Manchester hadn't of got that late winner that would have been even one less point. Kinda wanted United to lose though haha. Two nil down after ten minutes. I doubt Jose would have been the manager this morning if they'd have lost that game (or maybe even drawn). Looking forward to the Liverpool/Chelsea game but the result is too difficult to call.
2426  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Rapper Soulja Boy Brags About Bitcoin Gains in New Rap Track on: October 07, 2018, 11:24:28 AM
Gangsta rappers are all about money. It doesn't matter if it's fiat money or any other form of money(cryptocurrency).
Embracing bitcoin is only temporary for them. It's just a trend. It will fade away.
If he brags about making lots of money with bitcoin, why don't he posts some secreenshots of his wallet and transaction IDs on social media.

They're also known for fake flexing and boasting about things they don't own or don't have and Soulja Boy has been caught out numerous times:

"Soulja Boy Gets Exposed for Flexing like he bought $6,000,000 Penthouse..When he rented it on AirBNB":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHxlcYzVJbw

I doubt he even owns bitcoin or if he does not as much as he's making out. I'm sure he'd deny owning this much if the IRS ever comes knocking. Just another rapper fake flexing due to insecurity and bitcoin is the in thing to rap about.

I did not copy and paste it, I searched for references on the internet.
I study little by little, I just write what I know. and I only answer questions that I can answer.

is that considered plagiarism? and the answer above I did not copy from the internet or from this forum.

Come on, drop the bullshit. Nobody is buying these excuses. You just copied the post from the thread and snipped a bit out. Did you find this on the internet as well:

my opinion The hardest part is recouping in capital to add some more machines or resources to my business since customers aren't always there plus the money I get is for my operating expenses. It isn't hard per se but the expansion of the business would take ages to complete, and we all know that to be successful, one must expand his/her business for faster production and larger capabilities to accept huge orders. Apart from that, I don't have any complains on having a small capital. It is what it is, and it all boils down on how well does one manage property business. For me, the main challenges for small investors is how to compete the market though it is just a small investment but you need to have goal to invest big.

I do own a printing shop and I'm just a small-time entrepreneur. The hardest part for me is recouping my capital to add some more machines or resources to my business since customers aren't always there plus the money I get is for my operating expenses. It isn't hard per se but the expansion of the business would take ages to complete, and we all know that to be successful, one must expand his/her business for faster production and larger capabilities to accept huge orders. Apart from that, I don't have any complains on having a small capital. It is what it is, and it all boils down on how well does one manage his/her property/,business.

You're blatantly just copy and pasting. Cutting a bit out and adding "my opinion" to the beginning of it doesn't make it your own.
2428  Other / Meta / Re: Newbies can now pay a small fee to enable images on: October 06, 2018, 03:24:46 PM
Ok, I understand, I will pay you later.
I'm not sure if it's your English or other confusion, but paying me isn't going to get you a Copper Membership Cheesy
Go here to buy it:
I don't understand. If I pay you, what functions will I add to my account?

You don't pay him. You pay the forum. You can read about the benefits of Copper Membership and purchase one if you decide to at the following:

By popular demand, newbies can now pay to have some of their restrictions lifted. If you pay the fee, you become a Copper Member, and you can post images. That's the main point of this: allowing newbies to post images. Additionally (and these might change depending on how things go), Copper Members currently have these bonuses:

- Some of the same permissions as Member-rank members, such as reduced signature styling restrictions. (But none of the PM-related restrictions are currently lifted, such as the style limit or per-hour PM limit.)
- Your "you must wait ____ seconds between ___" counter is reduced by 75%. So if you're naturally of Newbie rank, you only have to wait 360-75% = 90 seconds.

If you paid an "evil IP" registration fee, then whatever you paid (in BTC terms) is subtracted from the upgrade fee. If you paid a registration fee a long time ago, you might even get a free Copper Membership due to the increase in BTC price. Just visit the link at the bottom of this post to check whether you have it already.

I am aware that for most people the benefits of this membership are pretty lame. This membership is only intended to fill a specific niche; if you don't need it, don't buy it. It is not intended to be the lower-cost Donator/VIP alternative which I've talked about before as a possibility.

I wrote the system so that I can easily add additional paid memberships in the future, but I might not ever do so. Not sure.

You can buy it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=credit;promote

I paid for copper 1 week ago but still nothing appeared in my profile
Assuming you paid the correct amount and has at least a single confirmation, go back to "this page" > Click the "drop-down menu" > Choose to wear it.

I do not have drop down menu.
We have also paid for this service, however we have received nothing thus far! When we go to THIS PAGE nothing has changed, no drop-down menu for sure! We have a proof that the transaction has gone through the system, although our rank hasn't changed whatsoever! I hope that you guys will be able to give us an advice or/and look into it.

Post the txid. I've seen users complain about this before but if you aid enough then you're probably just missing it.

You are a legendary and writes bitcoib, yeah you deserve that level, pity on you and yeah it is like loosing my dignity now bothering you here. Excuse ? ohh come on do we need to submit our marriage certificate and our system IP address for you who is not even a DT member and completely misleads our valuable time with your undeserving comments and redtrust. Get lost, cheap guy.

Please learn to comprehend English. I already explained the origin of the 'Bitcoib is my succesfull'. It's a joke mocking shitposters like you. Just like I'm also mocking you calling me a 'highly educated moran'.

Bitcoin is my way
Bitcoin is my partner
Bitcoin is my rich
Bitcoin is destination
Bitcoin is my hobby
Bitcoib is my succesfull

And no, your marriage certificate won't prove anything other than you are married. Your excuse that you're husband and wife and follow each other around the forum posting back to back is laughable. Just go away. Shitposters like you have ruined the forum.

Identity crisis, or the perils of plagiarizing shit without reading it:

Are you in favor of same sex marriage?

when it comes to that im gay too and theres a lot of discrimination to us but sometimes i questioned myself did i do something to them ?
this is a very sensitive topic, here in my country, same sex marriage is not yet accepted and is being criticized by our government and the church. As for me, I'm not for it, but I think they have the right to do as they please, if a guy wanna marry a guy then go ahead and do so, just be ready with the consequences of your decisions.

(the red part is copypasta from someone else's post)

I've seen them a couple of times before where they've copied two contradictory posts.

Just got this PM today. This guy claims his "wife" loves him so much she follows him around the forum posting directly after him because she can't bear to not be behind his side even digitally:

Hello hilarious,

Greetings!

Remove the redtag on my account. It is my wife who loves me crazy to the core. She follows me however am also removing my redtag on your account. Sorry.

Good day.

I refused. Me and my family were then cursed:

done hilarious, do not worry who hurts me will get my curse for you and your entire family out of what you did to me and may you be blessed. Good bye.

I'm shooketh.

It doesn't matter what excuses you come out with, people are permabanned for this behaviour and you won't be an exception unless theymos decides to changes the rules here, but I don't see why he would nor should he.

@hilarious you sounds like a cheap uneducated moran on the forum who do not even know how to analyze.
He is my husband i follow him that is our true love and yeah YA govoryu po-russki and what ever i wish, there is no rule to speak only russian or english. Don't imagine and trigger your cheap intentions on others. It is all the digital world we live in and for safety we do change passwords and authenticate our accounts moreover you are not a DT member but a cheap guy here.

Learn how to write "bitcoin" first and you are a "Legendary" writes the word as bitcoib and you write in your bio you are an educated moran look at your story of maturity here Lol on your cheap life reference: https://imgur.com/a/82PJ6VF

I think I analysed the situation pretty accurately. I spotted a "husband and wife" merely by their posting habits and without any other information at all. What are the chances of that? But we all know that's just an idiotic bullshit excuse you've come out with. You are blatant alt accounts just shitposting one after the other for money.

Also, if you're going to come after people for spelling things wrong then you should make sure you get things right. It's 'moron' not moran. And besides, I like to mock the shitposters here and their illiteracy, hence why I have put your garbled rubbish in my person text and the "bitcoib is my successful" is a quote of another shitposter that I found funny.

Curse you shall suffer with diseases and loose everything in your life.

Lol. You talk about immaturity yet come out with talk about curses? You're just another backwards shitposter who doesn't deserve to be here.
2433  Other / Meta / Re: please help on: October 06, 2018, 02:19:57 PM
Copy and pasting.
I bought the account 1 week ago, as long as I use it I never copy and paste other people's posts.
I only made 2 posts per day

previous users who have done this. can it still be fixed sir?

These excuses won't work and this is obviously just a lie to try save your own skin because you're even copy and pasting on this account:

DEVELOPED COUNTRIES
Low Unemployment Rate
Main Economic Activities in the Industrial and Services Sector
Low Population Growth Rate
The high level of education

DEVELOPING COUNTRY
Low per capita income
Still High Unemployment Rate
Economy Relying on Primary Sector
High Population Growth Rate
Low levels of health and education
Every country runs development in all fields of life with its resources. During the process, there are countries that can progress and some are still developing.

I think, Here are the brief differences between developed and developing countries;

DEVELOPED COUNTRIES
  • High per capita income
  • Low Unemployment Rate
  • Main Economic Activities in the Industrial and Services Sector
  • Low Population Growth Rate
  • The high level of education

DEVELOPING COUNTRY
  • Low per capita income
  • Still High Unemployment Rate
  • Economy Relying on Primary Sector
  • High Population Growth Rate
  • Low levels of health and education

Copy and pasters are never unbanned and purchasing an account is no excuse.

I have a little compused when I found account cooper member,

What is the difference between cooper membership and a regular account?

Is there a privilege when the account has the name cooper member?

I found a lot in https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=238.0 accounts that have cooper members always have a lot of participant if they become a bounty manager even though the account is still a newbie, and different when a newbie without cooper member account less desirable by bounty hunters if they become a bounty manager.

Sorry for the stupidity that I have with this question, or alternatively someone can provide a link for me to read about the difference between a copper member account and a regular account.

Only hilariousandco is a Cooper Member. Assuming you mean Copper Member it's just a rank to essentially whitelist yourself and post images straight away, but also comes with a few extra features. You now need one merit to get a signature but you can get one straight away by purchasing the Copper rank and that's what most people will buy it for. Moire details here:

By popular demand, newbies can now pay to have some of their restrictions lifted. If you pay the fee, you become a Copper Member, and you can post images. That's the main point of this: allowing newbies to post images. Additionally (and these might change depending on how things go), Copper Members currently have these bonuses:

~Copper Membership has now taken on a new meaning/use as it's the only way for someone to get a signature without achieving any merit. Give it time and it'll probably get some stigma associated with it and will be seen as a shitposting rank/title, especially when you start seeing Copper Members with hundreds to thousands of posts and not a single merit received.
That's the same for users without Copper Membership. High Activity and low Merit means low post quality. I'd say that's a good thing to quickly see!

Quote
I'm still for further donator ranks as well like Silver and Gold but they need to be sufficiently expensive to stop people just coughing up $10-20 per account over however many they have.
Even if this were implemented, there would eventually be Gold Members with high Activity and barely any Merit. At least they're easy to spot.

That's a good thing. At least it sets those apart from those that have contributed and actually earned their ranks as opposed to those who have just bought it.
2435  Other / Meta / Re: Enhanced newbie restrictions & requirements on: October 06, 2018, 12:04:43 PM
It's a bit embarrassing and frustrating to be managing threads as a Newbie again without the ability to add images and signatures, etc. And kind of sucks that the hard workers among us can be bundled in with the spammers.

Purchase a Copper Membership if you want signatures to show up.

This is a big tragedy for all newbie members of this forum. But it also have pros and cons. Pros of this having a clean forum and cons of this only for those active and chronic members have the ability to standout or to post anything they want that's ofcourse related to crypto.

It's not. It's a tragedy to shitposters who are only here to spam and collect bounties. Getting one merit is so easy you could get it without even trying if you were to actually contribute something. The only people who are going to be victims of this 'tragedy' are the people the merit system was put in place to stop in the first place.
2436  Other / Meta / Re: Evolution of rank names on: October 06, 2018, 11:52:48 AM
I've suggested before that they should just double with every rank. Makes it easier and doubling each time makes the ranks much difficult to achieve whilst keeping some standard/order. Legendary should probably become fixed at 960 and then Mythical(or whatever) at 1920. In addition you could require a hell of a lot of merit so only the best of the best posters ever achieve it. Would be nice to have some additional perks for it as well. Something like a custom title or an image banner allowed in your signature would be nice. Something to try aim/achieve, especially when Legendary doesn't even mean much (or come with any additional perks to Hero).
2437  Other / Meta / Re: Copper member statistics on: October 06, 2018, 11:16:42 AM
In my post I just want to show that not every copper member pays for membership just to make bounty, but I still think that this is the main reason for majority of them.

I think that most of them pay for this because they want to  post ANN or BOUNTY thread with pictures.
But as this thread shows Copper Member number is growing more rapidly after the the new rank requirement this means more Copper members are bounty hunters.

Yeah. The majority of people purchasing it previously did so just to essentially auto-whitelist themselves, but Copper Membership has now taken on a new meaning/use as it's the only way for someone to get a signature without achieving any merit. Give it time and it'll probably get some stigma associated with it and will be seen as a shitposting rank/title, especially when you start seeing Copper Members with hundreds to thousands of posts and not a single merit received. I think we should look at solely making Copper Membership as just some sort of whitelist feature that doesn't give you a bigger signature as it's too cheap and allows shitposters to easily bypass the exact thing that was put there to stop them. One merit is still also too easy to get and I think we should remove signatures until Member rank has been achieved. Ten merit is still quite easy to achieve, but not for spammers. I'm still for further donator ranks as well like Silver and Gold but they need to be sufficiently expensive to stop people just coughing up $10-20 per account over however many they have.
2438  Other / Meta / Re: @Theymos should consider guidelines for bounty managers. (Here is draft) on: October 06, 2018, 11:13:19 AM
"Guidelines" sounds like regulation. Regulation on a libertarian forum probably isn't going to go over so well.

They're guidelines, not strict you will die if you don't follow these authoritarian laws.

The clue is in the title:

Quote
guideline
ˈɡʌɪdlʌɪn/
noun
plural noun: guidelines

a general rule, principle, or piece of advice.
"the organization has issued guidelines for people working with prisoners"
synonyms:   recommendation, instruction, direction, suggestion, advice

How is a 'guide' IE something we suggest you do regulation? It's just a way to try bring some order to the chaos here. Besides, this is a bitcoin forum not a libertarian one. There are also rules here, but it's because we've been so lax about what people can get away with here that the forum is such a shitshow. Without some basic rules it just become pure anarchy and the greedy shit all over the place and ruin it for everyone else. That's why we need some rule of law, but that doesn't mean you have to rule with an iron fist. I'd say expecting some sort of minimum standards here is in everyone's interest, especially when the forum has become largely unfit for it's true purpose.

People have suggested Mythical / Mythic before but I'd prefer something else.
I don't know, it's not a horrible title, but it does go along the lines of Legendary in its blandness.  There have been threads about this before, but I can't recall exactly what names have been suggested and I don't recall having heard many that I was really enthusiastic about.

If you search 'mythical' in Meta you'll find a few. Think I proposed a couple names somewhere (though I might be getting mixed up with the donator ranks as I remember proposing few names for them).

Turns out it might have been theymos who suggested mythical:

Probably the next one would be "Mythical".

At one point I absolutely thought there probably should be at least one more rank above Legendary, since with time the number of Legendaries would be huge and there wouldn't be much that was special about it.  Now, with these merit requirements that are going to have noobs pulling out their hair for years, I'm not so sure about that.  Even lower-ranked members who aren't shitposters are having a hell of a time ranking up to Sr. Member or Hero, much less Legendary.  At this point a higher-ranked title means more than ever.

New legendaries will be very rare, especially for new users signing up and only the best of best posters will now ever achieve that status. However, there's still a hell of a lot of people who got that rank before the new system and probably a lot of low-quality contributors, and that's why I think there should be some distinction. Maybe we should demote all Legendaries who don't achieve a decent amount of merit because it means very little when all you had to do was be here a while. Maybe remove the airdropped merit from them and they're just a Hero until they've achieved the required merit. Then that rank would mean something.

When leaving +ve trust, these people are commenting that they used the service and mentioning an arbitrary amount in 'Risked BTC amount'. But, as expected, they are not mentioning anything under 'Reference', because they never used their service in the first place. Now, you can't argue, because you don't have any proof either. So, what to do in such cases? Burden of proof relies on whom?

I'm not sure nepotism is the right word here. Nepotism is giving your friends or family jobs or special privileges. What you're describing sounds more like corruption, especially if someone is just giving positive feedback for nothing but a payment and no actual service was ever given in return. That would be dodgy/scummy behaviour. However, are you sure this is actually going on? Just because there's no reference on the feedback doesn't mean no deal went on and this would be very easy to find out. If you've got concerns about people and specific trades then either ask for proof or open a thread in Reputation. If they did a deal then they will likely have plenty of evidence of that. If they don't then something dodgy is probably going on.
