He broke the law, that's a fact, but I can't imagine someone getting a life sentence in any European country for creating a website. It's restricted only to most dangerous, hardened criminals. Even murderers get between 15 and 25 years in prison.
It was more, far more, than just a website. And the chances are that if he'd been another nationality he would've wound up being extradited to the US anyway. He could have fought extradition. If I was going to run something like a darknet site I'd do it from a country that doesn't have an extradition process with the States at least. Dark web markets are one of the biggest reasons why Bitcoin came on the black list of many. Some people still think if Bitcoin is used for illegal goods and services it's illegal itself.
Also some think in a wrong way that tsking down illegal dark web narkets and putting their creators and runners into jail it's an action against Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. But that isn't so and to my opinion someone who runs places where you can buy drugs, weapons, child pornography and similar deserves to be punished and that will not harm Bitcoin, just the opposite.

It was a penalty, poor tackle by VVD which is rare because he’s usually so calm. Very lucky to get away with a draw considering we were facing a penalty on 85 mins. I think a draw is probably a fair result though in the end, both teams showed each other a lot of respect. I would definitely have taken a draw before the match. It was obviously a penalty, but I think he's asking why they let Mahrez take it. Regardless, it was a very silly penalty to give away as he was going nowhere and unlikely to get one on target from that angle. Should have just ran the ball out or blocked the shot if he even managed to get one away which I doubt. I've spoke with many site owners and they all have a similar story, that game-protect has private messaged them threatening to report them to authorities unless they send him Bitcoin.
Or he threatens them with scam reports on his website if they don't send him Bitcoin.
Do you have proof of this behaviour? I have heard similar accusations in the past against game-protect but have seen no hard evidence. This would be extortion so if you provide proof of this then this probably wouldn't be tolerated. I even had to make a new self moderated thread so that they couldn't post hundreds of FUD posts in it. They still do post and I have to delete daily.
They can be banned for this if they violate your local rules (as long as they were set out at the start). Hopefully on the new forum software you should be able to just ban certain users from even posting there in the first place which would make this self-modding more efficient. |

^^ hilariousandco, I think this is different. Khabib and a couple of other guys commited at least three cases of battery live on PPV in front of 25m - 50m viewers worldwide. I don't know if Khabib will get off this one lightly. I don't think it's that much different at all. Conor smashing up the bus unprovoked is just as bad. You are wrong. Khabib's fight IQ is very much lower than Conor's fight IQ. I am not telling you this because I like Conor more than Khabib, I like both of them. But Khabib is a 1 dimensional person, while Conor McGregor is a deep thinker and has studied more on the soft skills of martial arts and combat more than Khabib. Conor is an open thinker and has used different techniques to improve his martial arts. An example of this is learning the movements of Ido Portal which as something that he was ridiculed in the MMA community. But it worked as witnessed in his fight versus Jose Aldo. Doesn't matter how one dimensional you are if it wins you fights. Khabib is undefeated, so it's obviously working. Conor should have worked his magic whilst he was standing. The better fighter won here. Ido Portal seems to be a gimmick to me and I'm not sure how he had anything to do with Conor's one-punch knock out of Aldo. Conor might be able to move like liquid before the fight but he's not jumping around the ring like spiderman during it. If he actually used those skills to avoid getting hit or taken down then I might give more credit to Portal. |

Just because people do this doesn't make it alright. Leaving untrue feedbacks (both positive and negative) can hurt both the business and customers. People buy merit and accounts here, but that doesn't mean it isn't shady and people are rightly left negative feedback for this. How is this any different? If somebody offered payment to either positive or negative trust them or someone else here we all know what would happen. This is fraud and you're paying people to lie and those who accept money for this are complete sell outs and can't be trusted because they will clearly lie or do things immoral just for payment. |

Username Changes I personally think this should be also prioritized by Theymos. Why? I'm pretty sure some people here did a bad move in the past by using a username that is either: Somewhat related to their real name The same username as their other usernames on other websites And what happens when people change their name here to try hide their 'crimes' or wrongdoing (either here or elsewhere)? Which is a huge risk, as people can get doxxed easily. Similar to what happened to Hhampuz(if I remember correctly, not sure if it was him). People should be careful with what information they put online and we can't be responsible for this. Put a name change history on people's profiles. Yes, people here on bitcointalk can see your previous usernames on your profile(probably make it so that only members and up can see them?).
If your info is online then someone can find it and implementing name changes (that are even logged) isn't going to stop anything. People could just create an external site that logs all name changes and that shows up on google. This seems like a feature that will just be abused by the nefarious more than will actually save innocent people, and again, people should just learn to be much more careful with their personal info because once it's out there it's likely not going to go away regardless of whether we let people change their name here. |

After signing up to this forum only today i have a few comments to make regarding the ranking system. Is this actually the truth? I'd bet money you just decided to hop onto a brand new account as to not draw attention to your 'main' account(s). I have been using crypto for a long period of time and have often used bitcointalk and read links from here but just never bothered to make an account because i didn't see any reason to as i could already read anything i wanted on here without having one. *Sniffs* I smell something. Could that be the whiff of bullshit emanating from somewhere? So let me get this straight: You never bothered to make an account on this bitcoin forum because you didn't need one, but the merit system is the catalyst for you to start doing that? If this was true then you would have nothing to complain about. The ranking or merit system stops nobody at all from reading or even posting. It merely stops low quality posters from rising through the ranks, and I'm not sure why this has given you the passion to start posting here unless it somehow directly effects you (which I'm almost certain this is the case). as the title suggests is it possible for people to rank up on here still? If i was to have signed up to here a couple of years ago i could easily have progressed through the ranks but with the strict rules imposed by the regime in charge i think it is virtually impossible to pass the rank of jr member. It's virtually impossible for shitposters to do so (without cheating). If I created a new anon account today I'm certain I would be able to achieve the ranks even within the timeframe it took me to get the required merit. Any decent-to-great poster should have little problem rising through the ranks, but again, it's the spammers that will struggle, and that's a good thing. To gain enough merit without being a well known or already established user of the forum would take such a considerable effort that any user would also need a stroke a pure luck to even reach member rank now. The chances of being merited even a few times are very small let alone gaining hundreds of merits. You're saying people shouldn't have to put effort into their posts? Should we keep rewarding laziness and greed? Shitposters may now need 'pure luck', but the rest just need to make decent posts. Not difficult at all. If you made one great post here you could easily get ten merit for that alone and you can receive a max of 50 per user so there's nothing stopping someone from making a great post that receives hundreds of merits. The problem is 95% of people aren't making great posts hence the need for the merit system in the first place. I think Bitcointalk has a responsibility as the largest forum of it's kind to the crypto-users of the world to provide a fair, open, informative and balanced platform for everyone. It doesn't have a responsibility to anyone, but anyone can come here and post. Not everybody should be able to come here and earn by posting though, especially if you are not qualified or trusted to do so. I'd say getting some merit is a good competency test for that, but the merit requirement should be higher (at least ten to get a signatures, preferably much, much more). Although the user base has grown at an incredible speed, hopefully bitcointalk can be adapted to the new climate and continue being there for the community as it was originally intended. How has this changed? It's still here for the community. Ranks are completely irrelevant to this. This forum was originally intended as place to discuss bitcoin, but sadly it's been hijacked by illiterate shitposters who don't even care about bitcoin coming here with dozens of accounts each just to earn by spamming, hence the need for the merit system. Hopefully there will be some loosening of these rules or an entirely new system implemented sometime in the near future so new users are able to participate in all that this great forum has to offer. I think theymos should implement a new system though. Remove all signatures and all airdropped merit, and then you don't get a signature at all until you've earned 1000+ merit. As if spammers can't upvote or downvote. Yeah. The spammers are the ones with the most accounts and some of them literally have hundreds so they could easily just take advantage of that to keep spam threads active so they can easily spam in. A much better way of tackling the spam issue and low quality posts would be to attack the problem at the source and that is signature campaigns that pay for it. They need to be punished if they continually pay for spam threads and the rubbish that gets posted in them and if that is stopped then so would the spam. If we continue to allow ICOs to pay for whatever crap they want then nothing will change regardless of any system we try put in place. |

Just watched it this morning. The ending was more exiting than the fight. Most people predicted that Khabib would just be too strong for him on the ground but McGregor should have done more damage whilst he was upright. All that anticipation and adrenaline, and we get basically nothing from McGregor. He got owned out there. I'm very very VERY disappointed. Is it ring rust? You've got to give him credit for even taking the Khabib fight in the first place, especially it being the first fight after years being away from MMA. I thought he would have come back and fought some bums first before taking on any champions. Anyway... I don't think Khabib will be given a license to fight in Vegas for a little while after brawling with McGregor's camp. Which is LOL btw... It was silly of him, but McGregor has done things just as bad. Lets not forget he jumped into the audience one time which could have easily gone as sour, and then the whole bus incident that he got off lightly with. I'd actually like to see them both fight again. Maybe they will if Khabib is stripped of the belt which is a possibility. McGregor should probably have a couple of less challenging fights before he takes him on again though. |

I thought to have done disastrously wrong in today games, but I see I have done 5.5 points so far and only two persons did better than me while many others did the same score. I am 11th and I have an 8.5 points difference with 1st place. It is really tight with this CLOSE 1.5 score of SUPERBRU.
Easily my worst week. Only two points so far. If Manchester hadn't of got that late winner that would have been even one less point. Kinda wanted United to lose though haha. Two nil down after ten minutes. I doubt Jose would have been the manager this morning if they'd have lost that game (or maybe even drawn). Looking forward to the Liverpool/Chelsea game but the result is too difficult to call. |
