2421  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Has Anyone Gotten Robinhood wallets yet? on: November 14, 2021, 12:02:59 AM
Unlike Conbase / Gemini / other exchanges. I see people using RH as treating BTC more like stock then BTC.
Yep, especially after the Game Stop stock debacle happened and drew a lot of people's attention toward Robinhood (or it could have been their massive advertising campaign and/or zero-fee trades).

But if I were a stock trader, there's no way in hell I'd use Robinhood after what they did, which was to capitulate to the government and freeze Game Stop stock trading.  They're run by a bunch of amateurs and they don't even have a customer service telephone number.  If you need to call them for whatever reason, you can forget about it.

As far as crypto and Robinhood goes, I'd also look elsewhere for my needs--especially if I was looking to buy and hold and not actively trade.  "Not your keys, not your coins" has already been referenced, and for a damn good reason.  If you've got your coins in your own wallet, you aren't at the mercy of a 3rd party, no matter how trustworthy they seem to be.  Things can change in a heartbeat, and why give up all that control over your crypto?  Isn't that kind of the point of owning it in the first place?
2422  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Rename the "Press" board to "Spammer of the Month" board on: November 13, 2021, 08:44:54 PM
I didn’t check that board for a long time. If I'm correct, it was almost a year ago when I last checked and the board haven’t changed at all.
I don't think I've looked at Press in well over 4 years, and honestly I forgot that section even existed until just now.  Lol.  And to think that I get 99.9% of my crypto news from this forum.  You'd think I'd leave a section like that un-ignored, but nope.  It ought to be one of the best ones, but just like Bitcoin Discussion it's turned into a travesty of what it's supposed to be.

Not having seen what's going on in Press, I can't attest to how spammy it's become as of late, but I tend to believe Leo when he says it's pretty bad.

I mean, there are a bunch of boards across the forums with inactive moderators who have not logged in for years. There is no doubt they should at least be removed, if not replaced.
I get the sense the positions are more ceremonial or honorary these days.  A 'preserved for posterity' kinda deal.  This place likes its history.
That's unfortunate, and why is it that this forum, with all the money it has at its disposal, can't afford to pay a sufficient number of moderators to keep boards like Press and all of the other spam pits clean and shiny?  If a mod has gone inactive, I'm pretty sure there are at least 3-5 members who'd jump at the chance to be a mod--and I'd imagine that Theymos has a mental list of members he'd consider, so why are sections allowed to go unmoderated?  I just don't get it.
2423  Other / Meta / Re: Badly need your help your guys. on: November 11, 2021, 10:50:52 PM
Cases of hackers hijacking high ranking accounts and then using them to post malware are quite common this days. The hackers nolonger change the passwords or emails as they know that they will be locked out and won't be able to use your account to post their malicious links.
Yikes.  I do remember LogitechMouse's case from a while back, and it does sound like that's exactly what happened here.  I don't know diddly squat about hacking techniques, but that's kind of scary.  I think after this post I'm going to change my password to something a lot stronger (though I couldn't tell you off the top of my head what my current one is).

The good news is that OP shouldn't have much of a problem getting his account back, since it's pretty clear he wasn't the one who posted that malicious link.  Could have been a lot worse, though it sucks that it happened in the first place--and a few years ago if a hacker got ahold of your account, there wasn't much you could do about it.

2424  Economy / Economics / Re: Twitter CFO - Twitter to allow tips in crypto on: November 11, 2021, 10:20:44 PM
Cool, the more big name players keep supporting BTC and crypto in general is a beautiful thing to see.
Sure, I just wonder if it'll be used much, if at all.  Reddit had or has Reddcoin for tipping (if I'm not mistaken), and they've had the dogecoin tipbot, but I'm really not sure people are going to want to give up their bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency in order to say they like a tweet, FB video, or anything else.  Simply having a "like" button or a thumbs-up one is a much cheaper option.

I know some content creators rely on things like Patreon for donations, and I wonder if those same people would want to receive bitcoin instead.  Not everyone is into it, you know.  So while I do agree with you, Dave, I'm feeling kinda skeptical about this--but I'll be following the progress to see if it's a success or not.
2425  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: "Make $100 A Day Trading Cryptocurrency 📈 - (Top 5 Strategies)" on: November 11, 2021, 12:58:48 PM
Generally, I think charts are completely useless in trading unless there are clear trends upward or downward--and those are situations where anyone can make money if they're paying attention.  In other words, I don't believe in TA whatsoever and think it's akin to voodoo science.  The richest people in the world?  They're not TA traders.

On the other hand, with cryptocurrencies all you have are charts, news (fake or real), and rumors.  They aren't stocks and can't be analyzed by looking at their fundamentals (although I know other people would disagree with me on that), so that's why technical analysis seems to be everywhere on Youtube and in the Trading Discussion section on bitcointalk.  I guess if that's the only thing you can use, give it a shot--but don't say I didn't warn you.  The crypto markets can break trends easily, and those patterns you think you see might be nothing more than random fluctuations that can change in the opposite way that you were expecting.

Hydrogen, I do agree with your advice about starting small if you're going to start trading crypto.  At least then you'll get a taste of how easy it is to lose money without actually losing your life's savings.
2426  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? on: November 11, 2021, 12:50:33 AM
The stats that you included about the top 25 countries in terms of YouTube views don't mean much for Bitcointalk's channel. Those stats show all possible content that is shown on YouTube.
That may be true, but it's still an interesting chart that told me something I didn't know, and I appreciate posts like that.

And yet I do wonder what the demographic breakdown is/will be for the bitcointalk channel.  I'm not sure if the trailer is anything to go by, but assuming it is, viewership might be small and those viewers might be concentrated in one or two geographic regions.  Hopefully that won't be the case as new videos are released.

A lot of the crypto videos I see are from the US or Canada, though there do seem to be a lot coming from Asian countries.  I don't watch those since I can't understand the language, but I see them coming up in search results or in the related videos list.  People from all over the world are extremely enthusiastic about bitcoin and all things crypto, and even on this forum we have members from a lot of different countries.  I'm a bit puzzled as to why the trailer video hasn't gotten a massive number of views and that there aren't too many subscribers at present.
2427  Economy / Economics / Re: Wisdom in laying down on: November 11, 2021, 12:40:52 AM
China may be taking it too far.
In China that might be true, as their government doesn't seem to be the type to be flexible in the face of mass revolt--quite the opposite, in fact, and that's been the case for many, many years.

I don't know much about this movement, but frankly I like the idea of it and wish people in the US (and other countries) would stop focusing on divisive shit like identity politics and start presenting a unified front, standing up to the leaders who are wrecking our economy and taking away our freedoms.  Unfortunately in the US, everyone is getting free money from the government and I don't think that puts anyone in the mood to protest.

Props to the Chinese citizens for doing this (based on what little I know).  There are a lot of things I dislike about their country, but I don't have any animosity toward any of its people.  It's the government and partially their culture that says it's OK to counterfeit Western goods that I dislike the most.

I don't know the condition in China, but if the people feel they are somewhat underemployed/underpayed
Hell yes they're underpaid--why do you think the US outsourced all of its manufacturing jobs to China and various other Asian countries?  It's because they can do the job dirt cheap.
2428  Other / Meta / Re: Red Tag is becoming Rampant in the Forum. on: November 10, 2021, 03:47:26 PM
If the number of negatively tagged users keep increasing, it will reach to a stage that majority of the users in the forum would be negatively tagged and hence could fault the essence of the trust system.
I think you're just seeing clusters of shitposters for 1xbit or some other shady campaign or members of an alt ring that got busted; I don't think the level of tagging has increased drastically over the last few months or even years (though I could be wrong, as I have no data on that).

Keep in mind, though, that there are thousands of active accounts on bitcointalk and the chances that the majority of them are going to have some kind of DT tag is fairly slim IMO.  Also keep in mind that there are a lot of scammers and otherwise dishonest people who frequent the forum.  It's been that way for a long time now.
2429  Economy / Reputation / Re: The Forum Journey of _BlackStar on: November 09, 2021, 08:45:32 PM
maybe all of us here unknowingly have given and done things that are useful for the forum, which is basically: do what is in your mind, maybe it's better in every way.
Yeah.  I actually got started on bitcointalk as pretty much a troll, and if you look back at some of my earliest posts you'll see that a lot of them were quite nasty.  That's because while bitcoin had attracted my attention, I lurked on the forum for months before registering and saw what a shit show it was here--and also how little censorship there is with regard to what can be written.

I had no intention whatsoever of growing a reputation here, getting on DT, getting green trust, etc. when I joined.  I didn't even know a hell of a lot about bitcoin, but boy did this forum give me an education.  Seriously, what little I do know about crypto (and it's still less than most members here) is because of bitcointalk and all of the very smart people here.

There's no "club".  That term is just used to refer to the members who are most active nowadays, or have the loudest opinions, and that can and will change over time.  What I do know is that if you stick around long enough--and post frequently--you'll develop a reputation.  Whether it's a good one or a bad one depends on you and what you post, but over time members will become familiar with your name.  But that's the key, time.  I wouldn't try to rush it, _BlackStar.
2430  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger wallet technical issues - Can't send any crypto. on: November 09, 2021, 07:56:47 AM
Try to clear Ledger Live's cache.
That worked for me on occasion.  And I don't know if this applies to your problem at all, but there have been times when I've been unable to send coins because of, of all things, the USB cable being just a little bit worn out.  It was somewhere in this section that I read about that being a potential issue and didn't think my problem could possibly be because of the USB connection....but it was, and it was weird because I could still enter my PIN on the device and everything else.

If all else fails, give that a shot.  And I wouldn't worry too much, because your coins haven't gone anywhere.  Ledger just has some glitches.
2431  Economy / Economics / Re: Jefferies sells Gold to buy Bitcoin on: November 09, 2021, 07:33:03 AM
It is yet another example that Bitcoin is the best safe-haven asset and the best hedge against inflation
<snip>
I think in the long term gold will continue to have value mainly as costume jewelry, but as a store of value Bitcoin is going to eat into it.
I disagree with you about the first part, because I don't and never have believed that bitcoin is any sort of safe-haven asset, nor will it be anytime soon.  If there was a cryptocurrency that tracked the real value of the USD or whatever fiat currency, i.e., adjusted its value constantly for inflation, then that would be a perfect substitute for gold--in fact, I think there is some kind of financial product that does exactly that (it's in the bond market if I'm not mistaken).

But bitcoin?  It's volatility alone precludes it from providing safety against inflation or volatility in other markets.  And if it weren't so volatile, none of us would have fallen in love with it.

Gold is always going to be valuable as long as it's rare.  If Elon Musk or somebody else starts mining it on asteroids, just watch how fast the price drops.  Aluminum used to be considered a precious metal a long time ago, way before people figured out how to get it out of the ground and isolate it.  True fact, though it's too late at night for me to go digging for a reference.  Lol.
2432  Economy / Economics / Re: What books do you recommend for economics? on: November 08, 2021, 07:52:10 PM
Agree in general, but please, do not read or believe anything about real state on any of kyosaky's books. He is just heating up and hyping on that.
Yep, he and a few others (like Peter Schiff) are exactly that, hype-sters, financial wannabe gurus who probably made a lot of money early on in their careers but who are now in the business of obtaining a following and getting publicity.  Schiff is a notorious permabull on gold/silver, which is an absolutely insane position to take.  Mike Maloney is another one of them, and guess what?  He's trying to sell you gold and silver with all of the same ridiculous arguments that have been made for the last few decades.

I've already made some recommendations for reading, and none of them are from any kind of financial self-help idiots.  And again, if you really want to learn some basic economics, either take a course in it or grab a used textbook from Amazon or wherever and start reading.  One of my favorite classes in university was corporate finance, and it was basically all about the stock market.  I found it fascinating, and the textbook we had was awesome--I just forgot who wrote it, else I'd recommend it in a heartbeat.
2433  Economy / Economics / Re: Getting things off your list. on: November 08, 2021, 05:42:36 PM
IMO the new trend today isn't saving anymore, instead invest your money where It could give you good returns rather than letting it sit to a safe deposit vault and only earn 2% interest annually.
Yeah, it's the new trend (it's not actually new, though) because the markets for stocks, crypto, and all sorts of things are soaring at the moment and interest rates are low.  And boy, there's no bank I know of near me where I could earn 2% interest on a savings account.  I think every bank in the US is offering sub-1% interest rates even on CDs and other savings products.

OP has a good point, though if we took it to the extreme it would mean spending any excess cash on non-perishable goods like cat food or things like that, i.e., buy up all the things with a long shelf life before prices go up.  That isn't something I tend to want to do.  I also think buying a house or a car right now might be a bit risky, as the real estate market is kinda hot and the auto market might be as well--but if you need a car, you need one, and I wouldn't argue against buying one.

But what if you need a graphics card?  Wouldn't you want to wait for something like that?  Prices for those are super-inflated, but not because of overall inflation; it's because of demand, which will probably drop over time.  Just thinking aloud.
2434  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: November 08, 2021, 12:34:27 PM
how can i earn more merit?
One of your friends PMed me telling me you're a good poster in your local board and to help you out with merits.  I find that a bit odd, honestly, but when I un-ignored a few sections and tried to look at your post history, this was the only post I could see--asking about merits.

You've been here for about 10 months and have earned only a single merit, and you haven't even made a lot of posts.  You average about 9 posts/month, so how do you expect you're going to earn any?  It's hit-or-miss with earning merits, and a lot of times good posts get overlooked.  If you're not making many to begin with, forget about it.

What's the sudden interest in ranking up, anyway?  I assume you know how the system works, so why you posted the above question is beyond me.
2435  Other / Archival / Re: Bitcointalk Structure on: November 07, 2021, 11:21:37 PM
This must be the dumbest analogy of the forum community I have read so far.
Worse than that; it makes me sad that I don't fit into any of those categories anymore.  Once upon a time when I was a lot less lazy I probably would have been considered at least a spam/shitpost buster.  Now I'm a nobody....<frowny face>.

Seriously, OP are you trying to get some merits here or what?  That's precisely what this thread reeks of, a merit-grab attempt.  You just registered at the end of September, and in less than 2 months you're creating a thread in Meta dropping names *ahem kissing ass ahem*?  Give me a break.

I don't know how you ended up with as many merits as you have with posts like this one:

Bitcoin is volatile, the volatility of cryptocurrency makes it difficult to predict price. I keep up with posts on Wall Observer board

Someone roll a crystal ball and tell me my crypto future.
That's about as generic as they come.
2436  Other / Meta / Re: User Super Bitard on: November 07, 2021, 09:52:40 PM
Also - there is no plausible trade dispute so that dox shouldn't exist even in Investigations.
Yep, that's exactly why this fuck stick should have all his BS threads deleted and his account banned.  Not a cool thing to do.  I looked at the first page of one of those threads but didn't really read it in detail and wasn't aware (until now) that he was unnecessarily doxxing people.

No doubt he'd come back with another account since he's obviously got a massive grudge against nutildah and whoever else was mentioned in his posts, and someone who's willing to go through that much effort and spend that much time writing screeds against bitcointalk members has got to be a persistent troll.

The vibe around here lately makes me wonder if cryptohunter or some other megatroll from the past has returned.
2437  Other / Meta / Re: Timer for searching 90 seconds?? Also 360 post rule? Update Requests on: November 07, 2021, 01:30:35 PM
OP, I doubt your suggestions are going to get the attention of Theymos, but I happen to agree with you about the search delay at least.  I have no idea why it takes that long to be able to search for something else or correct a mistake made in the search field.  That's been an annoyance to me quite a few times, and I don't have a clue why it is the way it is.

Regarding the 360 second restriction on posting: That's only for brand new members if I'm not mistaken, and it goes away very quickly once you hit Newbie status.  It might be a bit too long, since there are a lot of people who register on bitcointalk to post a scam accusation or get some quick info, and I can see how it's a huge pain in the ass.  The problem is that if there wasn't any type of restriction like that, there would be bots spamming the forum like you wouldn't believe.  Even with that 360 second thing, we still get problems from time to time with bot spam.

And yeah, a lot of things could be improved upon here.  The new forum software should fix all of that, and I hear it's going to be released any day now.
2438  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Ranking-up pipeline- Those close to their next rank (lacking Merits) on: November 07, 2021, 09:51:26 AM
Ick.  I couldn't find any merit-worthy posts on this week's list--I un-ignored Bitcoin/Altcoin Discussion and the mining sections as I usually do when checking posts from this thread, but either no posts showed up when I checked a member's post history, or the posts were crap, or in the case of PawGo, the posts were above my head technically (he seems to be promoting his programs, but I don't know anything about them).

Ah, well.  Perhaps next week's list will be better.  I need to give out some merits pronto.  If anyone wants a post history review, drop me a PM.

Skeptical Chymist, If it's not a secret, how many sections do you ignore?
The only boards I don't have on ignore are Economics, Meta, Reputation, Scam Accusations/Investigations, and the sections dealing with wallets.  Occasionally if I don't see any interesting threads for a day or two, I'll un-ignore Bitcoin Discussion, but I'll quickly put it back on ignore after reminding myself how bad it is.  The same goes for the mining sections but for different reasons.  I'm interested in it but can't really contribute to any of them because I'm not a miner.
2439  Economy / Economics / Re: Preparing for the future. on: November 07, 2021, 09:38:35 AM
Hmm, a website with the name "startuptalky" recommending mostly tech-based jobs--shocker there.

How about the younger generation trying to cure cancer or other health problems that this and previous generations of scientists haven't been able to tackle?  Where are all the helping professions and careers that are good for the soul and not strictly for the wallet?  I swear, every day I see more and more youngsters glued to their smartphones instead of interacting with whatever and whoever is right in their vicinity.  They need less screen time, not more of it (although I wouldn't disagree that all of those careers listed are vitally necessary ones with the exception of a few, like content creation and trading).

Your career path should not be driven solely by economic factors, and I think going to college is beneficial as long as one studies something practical--or if one's family has enough money to blow on a 4-year university education, in which case a major in history or psychology might be an option.  But the world is always going to need doctors, nurses, engineers, people in the allied health professions, accountants, and people working in fields only loosely related to technology.  And guess what?  You need a lot of schooling to be in any of those fields.  That investment in your education is an investment in yourself, and it will pay off in time

TL;DR: This is an article heavily biased toward tech and trendy jobs for the zoomer generation and misses a lot of key points regarding career selection.

something that sound so dump now but with everything being done by AI in future there will be nothing serious for us humans to do.
Man, that was being said back in the 1950s about life in the 1980s.  Didn't happen.  There will always be a need for human input and work.  Always.

Please check my issue. You can't red trust me for this small mistake. I follow the rules all the time. I forgot to give @ before telegram name. I'm sorry about that. Forgive my mistake.
Dude, you're busted so bad you might as well be sent to the junkyard.  You're a shitposting, bounty-abusing, zero-value member who deserves all the negative trust and whatever other consequences he gets.  Playing that "plz forgive me" card along with the "I made small mistake" one isn't doing you any favors; it's just cementing your status as a liar on top of being a greedy cheater.

Now that you've attracted my attention, I think I'm going to add a little something to your trust page.  Have a wonderful day, sir.
