Building a bigger, better anthill now that the weather is getting warm and I cant fit anything else on my limited apartment circuits.

You can see a before-and-after: went from a storage area in the back of an office to what will become a high-capacity rack.

2x L6-30 circuits (213V, 30A each) - Currently using an unmetered PDU with C13 outlets
1x L21-20 circuit (120V, 20A,20A,20A) - Currently using a metered PDU with L5-20 outlets
1x 5-20 circuit with duplex outlet

approximately 15kW of power available under 80% rule of thumb, with about 4kW of equipment once I move a few more things in, a bunch more antminers showing up thursday, and leaving lots of room to grow. Not sure what I will hit first - power limits or cooling limits (industrial 600V A/C)

There is a 1200W Corsair PSU, plus 3x 835W server power supplies wired up and ready to go. All of them will use 213V power for a bit better efficiency

^the design is really nice, but what the heck is with the fan setup? you have 3 exhaust fans that are trying to handle the airflow of 6 big delta fans (that are pointed at eachother on top of that?)

The use of the fuse board is neat - I have a few of those with me now but didnt see much benefit in useing them, espescially considering any risk of the open terminals being near so much metal and wiring. (might be worth putting plastic tips on the unused terminals?)

Yeah, or they are trying to pump their own shares on crypto-Trade to sell them to gullible victims before the final nail is put into the coffin of this company. I know for a fact that one big name on here is doing just that. Can't say who but this guy expected to make a nice and quick turn around on the crypto trade episode but that didn't happen and he is now desperate to sell. It wouldn't surprise me if this is all a pump and dump to allow those who bought Ukyo's shares to get out before the big let down. Lets face it, big news is coming but who says we are going to like it?
Feels a lot like this, if you ask me. There are so many things wrong here right now.

by the way, does ken have a real-life job? or is he supporting himself for over a year now using ACTM funding?  How much loss will each share experience if he was living the life of a $60,000 salary on it for a year now?
2424  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) on: March 17, 2014, 01:51:45 PM
Honestly, I bought it hoping when they say "Over 1000 gh/s" and "Before April 1" meant it was going to be 1.3 TH/S and shipped out next week.... but hey! hahah.

Im near the front of the <APR10 batch, so im crossing my fingers that it might ship around the 7th Smiley

I feel like there could be some solid overclocking potential. If all the chips are simply underclocked, there may be a way to add a 600W PSU and bump the system up to 1200-1300GH

The S1 overclocking was limited by the chip design (somewhat by voltage too, but mostly design). The S2 is limited by the included power components and a HUGE stock underclocking.

Anyhow to contact bitmain ?
I did email them but I dont get any reply and its been a while...

Thank you...

I had replies from sushi and bitmain via PM

I see, Ill try PM
But is it legit ? Since email is the "legit way" info@bitmaintech.com << enterprise mail

most times i have emailed bitmain, I get a reply around 11PM-2AM EST which I assume is when they get to work and rake through dozens of messages in china. Ive had a few go without reply, but generally its very good and about 4/5 times i get a reply within 12-24hours
2426  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: March 17, 2014, 01:39:39 PM
Well at least I doubt he's making much anymore. Can't be many people buying from ScamFast now.

This is why they will have to move away from preorders, in favour of shipping in stock products...

or they have paid the R&D costs and now have access to thier own hardware production line for cheap.  Bitfury did this - thats why Dave has an $8M/month farm while the only equipment for sale is about $10/GH
2427  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Server PSU for Antminer S1, step by step guide. on: March 17, 2014, 02:22:25 AM
Amazing. I wonder if it can be done with HP power supply part#403781-001 & 379124-001 - They are 1000watt supplies and very good quality too. I have like 6 of them lying around with no use for them.

They are modded similarly. pins 31&34 need to be shorted (the 2nd-from-end pin for both the top and bottom side, irectly across one another). However, Ive had terrible luck and most of the ones I mod either die early or were defective to start (got them from a recycler, so its not too surprising)

Ive done the process in this guide on 4 of these artesyn PSUs now it works great everytime. the fan can be a bit 'screaming' loud if loading it past 700W though. My method though was to solder wires into the slots rather than a bar. same result but not as nice looking as yours Smiley

Check out past difficulty increases on this site. We continue to see 10-20% difficulty increases every 11-12 days. The latest difficulty increase of only 11% is the anomaly if you look at past increases.

http://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty

So are you saying that if this was November of 2013 one could reasonably assume that the hashrate will double for eternity?

We're nearing the end of the road for large percentage increases if we're not already there.

Agreed, I was simply stating that it is a mistake to look at the last five difficulty increases of 23%, 19%, 19%, 22%, and 11% and assume that we've leveled out and 10% difficulty increases will now be the norm. It looks like the next difficulty increase will be ~15%.

most of my profitability calculations involve assuming a difficulty that slowly settles from 16-20%/jump to 10%/jump over the next 6 months. I think its entirely fair, and maybe even fairly conservative.

So then I am not getting an S2 an extra S1 or my 6.7BTC back?

I suppose your not as bad as hashlast at least.  I mean they charged 73BTC and don't even have the decency to threaten me with scammer tags for asking them to send me a product or a refund or at least a picture of a middle finger.

Meh.

Any more details? What did you tried? Why you didnt succeed? ANd what next?

All I can do is ask them.  As I said one order updated to paid and turned green after the first email calling me a scammer.

I don't know what's up with the other order.  I just find it disturbing that asking about orders which showed up all wonky under my account resulted in bitmain calling me a scammer.

That really does not sound like any of my multiple experiences with Bitmain. They have always responded to my emails courteously, and typically within 16 hours or less.

... these things will be lucky to ROI in BTC in 6 months...

what's the point to buy if ROI only in 6 months.. I must be missing something

Its an investment. There are very few investment vehicles that pay for themselves in 6months, and investors have to decide whether it will make a profit or a loss, as well as how much work will go into upkeep and cooling.

Don't buy it because someone else does. Buy it because you think it will make you a profit

It sounds like a lot of additional power for another 10GH. It's my opinion that we passed the point of diminishing returns at 190.

I think that pushing it as far as safe is good right now, but in the next few months it may become practical to bring down the power draw a bit.

most of mine run at 387.5, with a few at 375 or 400

"This miner has internalized PSU and don’t need any other accessories(of course, a ethernet cable is needed for internet accessing)."

looking at the picture, there is clearly no PSU anywhere in the design, and in fact it appears to have an 8-pin (ATX or PCIE?) power connecter

Guys calm down about the PSU. I've ordered an S2 and will do a setup guide and review - if it burns my flat down then I'll let you know Wink

In all seriousness, I'll obviously check pwoer consumption and PSU spec'ing.

+1.  Stop getting your panties in a knot over vague technical specifications. Bitmain has a prototype right now (that i assume works just fine) so it seems VERY unlikely they would be stupid enough to skimp on the PSU rather then be smart and install a power supply that has some headroom. They are not tech-illiterate, and the S1 proved that handily.

I imagine that Bitmain has arranged some sort of deal with enermax that they will buy PSUs in bulk, within china, and get very good cost, high quality models. Even with the extra shipping weight it probably works out cheaper then letting customers buy one on delivery - and might be partially influenced by the forum threads full of people complaining about their units malfunctioning [because they are trying to use <500W power supplies]

I use server supplies for a lot of my gear, which gives me 1000W for about $30 + an hour of my time (getting the supply, testing it, soldering cables, testing it again, praying its not one with a screaming 2000RPM fan, etc), but I have no issues with a supply being included if the quality and price are right.
2436  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) on: March 15, 2014, 05:30:13 PM
They say they are using a 14U rack... But those photos on page one look smaller than a normal 14u rack.

http://image.google.com/search?q=14u+rack

The PROTOTYPE is not 14U in size, but is also not 4U. I would guess about 6U (6U = 266.7mm). Lookng at the prototype, its roughly the hieght of 2x120mm fans).

I assume they will make everything more compact and visually appealing by the time they ship 4U size in april
2437  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Setup & Troubleshoot] Bitmain AntMiner S1 180GH/S miner on: March 15, 2014, 05:26:28 PM
I believe the antminer has 2 fan mounts, so doing it in push pull, idk to go with high CFM or high SP would be better tho

the stock fan is somewhere in the 110-140 cfm range. If you add an exhaust fan I suggest a minimum 70CFM. anything else might actually impede the units cooling.

the cougar fans (usually orange/black) are fantastic. roughly 72CFM at full speed, very quiet, and have the nice rubber grommet-style mounts that work with the drilled holes on the antminer backside
2438  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BITMAIN Antminer support and OverClocking thread on: March 15, 2014, 05:20:55 PM
I expect to see a positive ROI, as long as difficulty does not go past 20% jumps again, and assuming we see a few more 11-14% jumps in the near future

its just about physically impossible that the amount of hardware in the network will continue to doble every ~1.5months for ever. buyers are running out of funds and mining farms are reaching capacity.

plus, summer is coming.......

Are you running the 2 pci-e off 1 physical cable?  I have one connection to my PSU that has 2 PCI-e off it. I was running this way but read it was bad so I switched to having one pci-e cable off 2 molex connectors.  Now I read that having the molex to pci-e isn't enough power and isn't safe.  What would be the best method of powering them?

I would not use the molex to PCIx to power an Ant.  The molex cables aren't designed to feed that kind of power.

I think using two PCIx on the same cable (without adapters) from the PSU should be fine.  The manufacturer intended them both to be used on a high end GPU, so you should be fine.
M
+1
molex has only 1 yellow (12V) line, and is generally only safe for 50-80W (rated at 60W usually). A pci-e 6-pin has 3 12V lines so it can handle a lot more power.  Quality cables tend to be 16AWG or 18AWG and are needed if the antminer is going to draw 160-200W per port.

cheap chinese cables or molex-pci / atx-pci cables tend to be poor quality and often are 20AWG or even 22AWG (I has an atx-pci with 4->3 12V wires burst into flames in minutes. It was marked as 18AWG but during its autopsy the wiring looked like it was probably a 22AWG it was so thin) AVOID THESE

tldr; use one dedicated pci cable per antminer, and make sure its a good quality/brand

So hey, once i have an antminer set up, running , and adjusted,....
how long can i expect it to function properly before i have to re-tweak it?
...1hr?    1day?   1week?   1 month?    Undecided
id appreciate an inbox, would make it easier to find your reply,... thanx Grin
And your question is?
When can you overclock?
If that is the question then whenever you want.
NOPE... by retweak i did not mean overclock...
if i leave the house and come back two weeks later.. will things still be running smoothly?
Bro with an Antminer you CANNOT go wrong.
Unless you do it intentionally.
OK... what happens when power is down for 5 min?.......   self ressurecting?
if i start up ten of these and leave for seven months,  how many will still be on the job when i return?

Unless your power supply is not capable of running the antminer fully, or you overclock it unstably (generally anything past 375MHz needs a bit of extra airflow) - these miners are rock solid.

If the power goes out and then comes back, they will boot up just fine. no lost settings, no weird smoke or errors.

Ive had mine run for weeks or even months without changing the settings - during that time there have been several power outtages and many (brief) internet disconnections. The miner resumes work once it has booted up (takes about 90 seconds) and has internet
