2421  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC has fallen below 30,000. Is there still room for appreciation in the future on: July 24, 2021, 01:19:35 PM
Another green day for bitcoin with now reaching 33,800$ and keeps going up. I hope it will continue to recover and go over 40k until the end of the month. I dont see it going under 30k at this stage. It has already dropped from 65k to 30k i think this is where the drop stops.Bitcoin got stable for 1 month on around 30k i think we can expect a pump now from bitcoin.

Stability doesn't mean that you can expect a pump. It can just as easily mean that the price will fall further, because if in that period the price failed to recover, some traders will view it as lack support and decide to sell before it drops further.

IMO even $40k won't be enough to declare the return of bullish market, $40k could easily be a bulltrap. Only price ranges close to ATH could be considered as a true bullish signal.
2422  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ukraine's roadmap of crypto adoption on: July 24, 2021, 01:14:24 PM
Quote
Government and business representatives have produced a roadmap to transform Ukraine into a leader in cryptocurrency integration.

This really doesn't mean much. There are always some people from the government who propose things, but they need to convince the majority of their colleagues to support it, which is the tricky part.

Right now, cryptos are in a gray area in Ukraine: lots of people use it, no taxes are paid, and the authorities are fine with it all, unless someone's doing something clearly illegal, such as mining cryptos and not paying the electricity bills. We've had several draft laws before which attempted to regulate the crypto industry, but they all failed to gain enough support in the Parliament. However, I think this time is different because the Ministry of digital transformation is involved.

Not true, there was one specific crypto law succesfully voted, but it was adopted in first edition and it doesn't have much power now. It's a work in progress. Ukraine also adopted some FATF regulation that also touches crypto. And theoretically people in Ukraine should be paying taxes on their mining or trading profits, and I'm sure some do, but Ukraine's private citizens in general don't hurry to pay taxes, and tax bodies are mostly interested in bigger fish, so it is true that a lot of people don't pay taxes on their crypto.
2423  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you accept hackers’ Bitcoin donations to charitable organizations? on: July 24, 2021, 01:01:56 PM
What do you think of this problem? This is just an example of our lives. Bitcoin will be used more and more widely, but the same freedom is relative, and we must actively respond.

How are we going to "respond? We can't prevent hacks, we can't prevent hackers from sending and receiving coins, and this will never be possible, because Bitcoin with such feature would not be Bitcoin. It's up to people who receive or send coins to verify that the coins are clean if they need to. If such donations are a major problem, charities should hire chainanalysis companies to help them be compliant with laws.
2424  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I just know this site and it's too good to be true. on: July 23, 2021, 11:04:43 AM
If someone could make 11% in 24 hours, they wouldn't need anyone's investments. Think about it, you start with $100 and multiply it by 1.11 30 times, that means in the end of the month they would have $2,289. In the next month - $52,400. In the end of the third month - $1,199,446. So, a person with this method and just $100 would become a millionaire in 3 months. What is the logical reason for them to take other people's money and share the profit with them, if they can work for themselves? Or just take a few thousand dollars loan from a bank and become a millionaire even faster. The answer is obvious - no one is making such big returns in this world.
2425  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elon wants Bitcoin to be a Currency not a Asset from the 'B' Word on: July 23, 2021, 10:57:05 AM
Obviously, I'm not trying to argue that miners should be sent to space, and mined, but the rocket ships have very sophisticated cooling systems. Granted they are absolutely huge, and is probably quite expensive if you compared if with the profitability of the miners, but they would be able to cool it, just not within profit. Obviously, on a satellite it wouldn't work, but in their ships you could potentially do it if you were that way inclined.

We'll probably see these sort of sophisticated cooling systems become somewhat affordable in the future, and data centers will begin to use them, and therefore big mining operations might too.

I didn't mean that it's technologically impossible, but when I said "massive problems" I meant that it would be uneconomical to do so. The sole purpose of mining is profit, and since reward is the same for everyone, the only way to increase profit is to lower the costs, and mining in space has insane costs compared to mining on Earth.
2426  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elon wants Bitcoin to be a Currency not a Asset from the 'B' Word on: July 22, 2021, 11:46:09 PM
Is it possible to put up bitcoin mining rig on each of his star link satellites that can get solar energy directly from the sun so it looks greener?

No, because that's a lot of weight and you will have massive problems with cooling miners in space.

Why is it that only Bitcoin is picked on by governments and mainstream media blaming it as the climate destroyer of our planet when there's 1000s of industries out there especially the crude oil industry that does million times worse damage and banks that have brick and mortar branches that waste energy because most banking customers do online banking anyway Huh

It looks like that because you read a lot more Bitcoin news than mainstream news. Still it's true that Bitcoin gets unfairly more attention than other industries.

I bet Tesla operations does more harm to the planet than Bitcoin. How can a bunch GPU's kill our planet and they not even overclocked also lol?

Bitcoin is not mined on GPUs, everyone should know that. The problem here is not who does more harm to environment, it's also how much utility is provided for the harm caused.
2427  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will everyone still believe in Elon Musk? on: July 22, 2021, 11:13:52 PM
Elon Musk has influence because of daytraders, and daytraders apparently still hold a large influence over Bitcoin's price. Perhaps a lot of these traders don't believe in Musk's words, but they know that his opinions can shift the market just because he's the richest person on Earth and has a reputation of technological leader. I hope with time Bitcoin market will be more mature and less prone to volatility caused by rumors and individuals. But that would also mean that there will be no huge and swift growth, which is a major reason why people invest in it.
2428  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do many people call Bitcoin "digital gold"? on: July 22, 2021, 10:44:29 PM
Gold is an iconic store of value, so people who want to highlight that they view Bitcoin as a store of value compare it to gold. You provided arguments why Bitcoin is better than gold, but there are also arguments why it's worse. It relies on electricity, electronic devices and the Internet, the things that we take for granted but could disappear if some catastrophic event happens. Bitcoin wallets can be hacked, there are countless examples of huge thefts. Gold is less likely to be stolen, because physical heists are less common than hacks. Gold has thousands of years of being store of value, Bitcoin only existed for a little more than a decade. Bitcoin is still not 100% proven, even the devs call it a beta version.
2429  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't give your bitcoins to scammers on: July 20, 2021, 11:47:06 PM
I think a lot of people who would give money to scammers would never read this post, because they are complete beginners, people who bought coins because their friends did, know nothing about this field and have little experience with finance in general. I've seen stories like this when someone gets intro crypto, don't do any research, get scammed immediately and then blames their friends who introduced them.
2430  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin needs the support of more sovereign states. on: July 20, 2021, 11:22:37 PM
Bitcoin was designed to function without government's or any other authorities' help, so it definitely doesn't need governments. As long as they don't bother Bitcoin and don't fight it, it will grow in both value and adoption.

I think government actually can't do much for Bitcoin adoption. They can't fix high fees or price volatility or complex user experience, and if they tried to force Bitcoin on population, it would only cause harm.
2431  Other / Off-topic / Re: Don't trust anti-viruses for your security on: July 20, 2021, 09:06:56 PM
This is fundamentally stupid, because these antiviruses just match an url in their database and conclude that if it wasn't yet reported as a scam, than it is not a scam. So first dozens of people who rely on this are guaranteed to get scammed if they trust their antivirus and don't take any measures. Antiviruses are handling malware in similar way - if it hasn't been reported as a malware yet, it would have a higher chance of remaining undetected.
2432  Economy / Economics / Re: End Game? on: July 20, 2021, 08:45:22 PM
My view is that Bitcoin will slowly continue to gain adoption, but will remain an obscure payment method used as a last resort for people who can't use traditional payment methods for some reasons. Lightning Network's official release would provide a boost to adoption, but it won't turn Bitcoin into a widely adopted global currency, because it also has limitiations, and because it doesn't fix other Bitcoin problems like price volatility.

Just because Bitcoin is not used by everyone and maybe never will, you don't have to be pessimistic and say that Bitcoin is useless. Bitcoin has its own niche, and IMO that already is a success.
2433  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Safety on: July 20, 2021, 08:21:45 PM
Crypto holders have already been the target for hackers for a long time, you don't need 6-figure Bitcoin price to have that.

I personally never saw any posts that say that their airgapped wallet has been hacked. If it ever happened, it's incredibly rare. While relying on an antivirus to protect your hot wallet is definitely not reliable. You can never get the perfect thing, but you should be striving to get the best thing possible, which in this case is an airgapped machine or a hardware wallet.
2434  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Police Destroy 1,069 Bitcoin Miners With Steamroller In Malaysia on: July 19, 2021, 11:31:43 PM
Is it fair to say a political statement is being made here? Malaysia is doing this as a gesture of appeasement towards china's hard anti bitcoin stance.

I doubt that. Bitcoin isn't politically significant, that would be a quite useless and noncommittal move. They didn't want to auction the miners, because they could again create the same problem of electrical outages and electricity stealing.
2435  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mining vs Holding on: July 19, 2021, 10:27:32 PM
I'm pretty sure that in many jurisdictions mining at home would be illegal, because it's misuse of residential electricity that is sold cheaper than commercial. It's also a fire hazard, there have been reports of house fires caused by mining equipment. So, if you don't want to have problems, you should rent some place for your miners, which also increases the costs. This means that the barrier of entry for mining is quite high, while with hodling you can chose any amount.

2437  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Crypto Portfolio Diversification on: July 19, 2021, 06:56:14 PM
and it's better to choose coins from top 10 for the majority of your portfolio and from top 20 as a smaller part.
Even that can be dangerous if we look back what coins were in the TOP 10/20 just a few years ago and where they are now.

Of course it's dangerous, it's extremely dangerous in fact. I didn't say that it's safe and foolproof way to make money. But compared to investing in obscure shitcoins, it's safer, because shitcoins from top-1000 and below are even more riskier and have very short lifespans and could crash to nearly zero in a few hours. Which is why I want to stress for newbies again that investing in Bitcoin is both simpler and more profitable. If you chase those stupid x100 pumpcoins, you will get broke from all the dumps, but by holding Bitcoin you will make decent gains in a few years without any effort.
2438  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to Setup Telegram Bitcointalk SuperNotifier V2(TryNinja's Bot) on Telegram! on: July 19, 2021, 06:51:52 PM
Is there any notification bot that does not require Telegram? I despise the layout of Telegram and find it overwhelming. With this bot though does it allow you to monitor multiple people? I would like to use it instead of getting notified when I get @ I would like to track some of the members here that I like the posts of and would like to have multiple notifications if possible.

Yes, there is a bot that I created - https://bct-quote-notifier.herokuapp.com/. It uses browser's push notifications, but due to Firefox's implementation of this mechanism it's unstable on this browser, your subscription randomly disappears in a week or so. Works fine on Chrome though.
2439  Other / Archival / Re: Will we break the key support at $30 800 or not? on: July 18, 2021, 11:44:20 PM
I think we will, in the past bear markets the price didn't plunge by 80% in an instant, it was a long process that took about a year. This current stagnation and slow decline falls within the pattern of previous bear markets. But I don't believe that we will drop as low as -80% from the ATH, this bull run was smaller and it would be logical to have a smaller bear market. 80% crash would put us at $12.8k which isn't farm from were we started. I think $18-22k bottom is more reasonable.
2440  Economy / Economics / Re: Financial concepts combined with certain religious concepts on: July 18, 2021, 10:20:03 PM
Islamic finance is a tiny drop in the global finance. DeFi is a million times tinier drop than even that, it's basically a decentralized (but not always) method for trading shitcoins. So this hypothetical halal DeFi will have zero impact on the world. Like a few dozen crypto enthusiasts from muslim countries will use it and that's it.

Religious restrictions when it comes to crypto or finance are like all other kinds of religious restrictions- always arbitrary and usually stupid.

Exactly, crypto should be used to bypass these restrictions, not join them. Halal crypto is not different from government-owned crypto.
