To win convictions, prosecutors must get inside heads of Baltimore officers

Prosecutors seeking to convict six Baltimore officers in the death of a young black man severely injured while in police custody will focus not on what the officers did but on what they allegedly failed to do: provide medical attention to 25-year-old Freddie Gray inside a police van on April 12.

That will require prosecutors and jurors to get inside the heads of the officers to determine whether they willfully ignored what a prosecutor said was Gray’s increasingly frantic pleas for medical help during a 44-minute ride in the van.

Unlike police abuse cases in which officers are charged with a physical act, such as beating or shooting a suspect, the Gray case involves evaluating the subjective performance of police duties. Prosecutors will have to convince jurors that the officers showed a conscious disregard for human life, said Laurie Levenson, a former federal prosecutor.

Hustler’s (Porn) Larry Flynt Endorses Hillary Clinton For President

In an interview with Bloomberg Politics, the renowned pornographer said he’ll throw his support behind the former secretary of state in the 2016 election.

“I’m endorsing Hillary Clinton for president, but I don’t think she needs my endorsement,” Flynt told Bloomberg reporter John Heilemann.

Flynt said that with Clinton as president, the makeup of the Supreme Court could be shifted left for the first time in decades.

“We’ve had a right-leaning court for half a century,” Flynt said. “But if Hillary gets in, chances are she’s going to have an opportunity to appoint two, maybe three justices… and we could shift the balance there.”

Flynt has long been a supporter of Democratic political candidates, particularly former President Bill Clinton. During the height of Clinton’s impeachment hearings in the late 90s, Flynt’s Hustler magazine offered readers a $1 million reward for information about any sexual indiscretions of Republican members of Congress. The contest ensnared Republican Speaker-elect Bob Livingston, a vocal supporter of impeachment who was forced to resign his House seat. Clinton eventually beat his impeachment proceedings a short time later.

AP-GFK POLL: DOUBTS ABOUT CLINTON'S HONESTY AFTER EMAILS

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Americans appear to be suspicious of Hillary Rodham Clinton's honesty, and even many Democrats are only lukewarm about her presidential candidacy, according to a new Associated Press-GfK poll.

Is she strong and decisive? Yes, say a majority of people. But inspiring and likable? Only a minority think so.

Clinton's struggles to explain her email practices while in government, along with questions about the Clinton Foundation and Republican criticism of her openness, wealth and trustworthiness seem to have struck a nerve in the public's perception of the dominant Democratic figure in the 2016 campaign. In the survey, 61 percent said "honest" describes her only slightly well or not at all.

It's crony capitalism, otherwise known as corporatism or fascism
Otherwise known as capitalism IN REALITY, AKA corporate fascism.

True capitalism is what raises the most amount of people out of poverty while keeping the govt at a minimal level at most to protect individual rights and allows people to achieve their dreams by staying out of the way nor being used by corporations to further their interests at the expense of taxpayers.
This "true" capitalism you describe, where can I find it? Where can I experience it? You've described something beautiful here, a Unicorn economic system... only... like the unicorn, I'm not sure it ever truly existed outside the minds of american libertarians.
I'm just defining terms and many leftists conflate what real capitalism is because the representation of the terms isn't correct. I don't disagree w/ your statement about corporate fascism but that, by definition, isn't capitalism.

For instance, capitalism's definition-1st on google search
Quote
an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state.
or
Quote
a social system based on the principle of individual rights. Politically, it is the system of laissez-faire (freedom). Legally it is a system of objective laws (rule of law as opposed to rule of man). Economically, when such freedom is applied to the sphere of production its result is the free-market.

Corporate fascism is when major corporations lobby govt officials/buy off politicians to get the rules and market skewed in their favor in a major way to lock out the small guy and/or get taxpayer funds for their own use. Capitalism works w/ small government or in the case of the US, their constitutionally authorized republic. As govt morphs into a welfare/warfare state or some level of each, corporate fascism can take over. Govt's natural trajectory is to grow when the public and corporations realize they can vote themselves portions of the public treasure instead of officials abiding by their constitutional oaths. Not much I can do about that just pointing out the different terms and societal operations.

More than 300 Yazidi prisoners have been slaughtered by Islamic State militants near Mosul in Iraq.
According to the Yazidi Progress Party, hundreds were murdered by Isis on Friday in the Tal Afar district.
It comes after around 40,000 people were kidnapped at gunpoint when the terrorists attacked Yazidi villages last summer.

GoFundMe For Freddie Gray Officers Removed After 41 Minutes

The Baltimore City Fraternal Order of Police created a GoFundMe page for the six officers who were charged Friday in the death of Freddie Gray—but it lasted for less than an hour before being removed from the site.

The Fraternal Order of Police, a union representing Baltimore City police officers, set a fundraising goal of $600,000 to pay for the living expenses of the six officers, who were placed on unpaid suspension after they were charged in Gray’s death. In 41 minutes, the page raised $1,135.

It’s unclear whether GoFundMe deleted the fundraiser set up for the six officers, but the FOP posted on its Facebook page, “Apparently our GoFundMe account has been suspended with no explanation. We are working to find a new site for donations. Thank you!”

They should get themselves a bitcoin wallet and then ask for people to get coins and hook them up. That would be a nice little boost in demand and marketing for us at the same time. The diehard police lovers, who are probably middle aged and older and white, could use a little homework assignment.

SHERIFF: 'DUKE LACROSSE CASE ALL OVER AGAIN'...

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke (D) declared the charges brought against six police officers in the death of Freddie Gray “George Zimmerman and the Duke Lacrosse case all over again” and said “these cops are political prisoners,” offered up as human sacrifices, thrown like red meat to an angry mob” on Friday’s “Your World with Neil Cavuto” on the Fox News Channel.

Clarke said of the charges, “it’s a miscarriage of justice. This neophyte prosecutor stood up there and made a political statement, Neil, and I say that because she’s chanting or voicing some of the chants from this angry mob. Her job is to tune that out. She said, I hear the voices. She’s not supposed to hear anything as she reviews this case that is not consistent with the rule of law and our system of justice. Look, I’m an experienced and a veteran homicide detective. I’ve had — I’ve participated in charging conferences. There is no way I have ever gotten a criminal charge within 24 hours after taking over all the reports and evidence to a prosecutor. A prosecutor who is thorough needs several days to sift through hundreds of pages of reports. They usually want to interview some of the witnesses themselves, in person, and they have to sift through all of the evidence, piece by piece, and they have to wait for some of the forensics evidence to conclude, to come back and that’s why I say on a minimum, three to four days. She just got this case yesterday. This is political activism. She’ll never prove this beyond a reasonable doubt, and I’m not going to silently stand by and watch my brother officers, offered up as human sacrifices, thrown like red meat to an angry mob, just to appease this angry mob.” And that “she rushed this thing through.”

2450  Other / Politics & Society / Male Ebola Survivors "Should Use Condoms Indefinitely" on: May 02, 2015, 11:34:14 PM
...

But studies conducted during previous outbreaks have found that the Ebola virus can be found in semen up to 82 days after a patient's initial symptoms. Scientists don't know if the man's semen contains live Ebola viruses, although they plan to conduct such tests, the CDC report says.

Tests of the man's semen did find genetic material from the Ebola virus, called RNA. The tests were performed 199 days — or about 6½ months — after he first developed symptoms, suggesting that the genetic material can remain in semen much longer than previously known. Earlier studies have found genetic material from Ebola up to 101 days after the beginning of symptoms, the CDC says.

The CDC notes only one previous case of a possible sexual transmission of Ebola, although the new report describes the evidence as "inconclusive." Researchers also documented a possible case in which someone contracted the Marburg virus — which is similar to Ebola — in 1968.

The CDC has long warned Ebola survivors to either abstain from sex for three months or to use condoms during that time. Now, the CDC advises people to avoid contact with semen from male survivors.

Men who survive Ebola should use condoms if they have sex and take care when disposing of the condoms.

Why Bernie Sanders is the Democratic Ron Paul — and why he isn’t

A former third-party candidate announced his long-shot presidential bid for a major party nomination and, despite trailing in the polls and not having the support of the party establishment, his supporters are hopeful that his candidacy will change the status quo.

That statement could be about Ron Paul 2008 and 2012 and/or Bernie Sanders 2016. And in many ways, Sanders is something of a Democratic version of Paul.

Here's what they have in common, and what they don't:

Bernie Sanders ("independent" US Senator from Vermont that's a self-avowed socialist) Makes More In 24 Hrs. Than Rand, Cruz, or Rubio, From Small Donations.

In the first 24 hours of his presidential campaign, Sen. Bernie Sanders has raised more money than Republican candidates Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, and Ted Cruz did during their first day in the race.

Sen. Sanders raised $1.5 million from a network of small donors during his first day as an official presidential candidate.

The Washington Post reported:

The donations came from a broad base of supporters — some 35,000 donors who gave an average of $43.54 a piece, according to the Sanders campaign. The campaign also said it signed up more than 100,000 supporters through its website, building what it calls a “mass movement.”
Clinton has not released any details about her fundraising totals, online or otherwise. But the Sanders haul outpaces the three major Republican candidates who already have announced. In the first 24 hours since launching their campaigns, Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) raised $1.25 million and Sens. Rand Paul (Ky.) and Ted Cruz (Texas) raised about $1 million each, according to their campaigns.

2455  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Who is your favorite 2016 canadidate and why is it Rand Paul? on: May 02, 2015, 10:35:48 PM
One of the things I like most about Rand is his offering of economic freedom zones to distressed areas, namely inner city areas which will help out the poorest of the poor.

Quote
a. Reduce the Individual Income tax to a single, flat rate of 5 percent. The individual
income tax rate not only taxes individual wage earners, but also taxes small
businesses. More than 75 percent of small businesses are organized as pass-through
entities (businesses which pass along income directly to the individual, thus get taxed
at the individual income tax rates). According to the Tax Foundation, small
businesses organized as sole proprietorships in states like Kentucky and Michigan
have a top marginal tax rate above 45 percent; in California as high as 52 percentii. A
lower tax rate provided to Economic Freedom Zone areas will significantly
encourage business expansion.

b. Reduce the Corporate Income tax to a single, flat rate of 5 percent. The U.S.
corporate income tax rate is among the highest in the world. Countries like Spain,
the United Kingdom, and Switzerland have tax rates at 30 percent or less – and one
of our largest international competitors, China, has a corporate tax rate of just 25
percentiii. Even our closest neighbor, Canada, is outcompeting us with a tax rate of
only 15 percentiv. We need to allow U.S. business to better compete internationally,
and reducing the corporate rate from the current 35 percent to a low rate of five
percent for businesses in economically depressed areas will allow those businesses to
expand and compete globally.

c. Reduce the payroll tax by 2 percent for the employer, and 2 percent for the employee.
There is an oft-cited document by the Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation
highlighting the statistic that 47 percent of all U.S. households pay no federal income
tax. This fact is true, but is not the entire story. All workers still pay the federal
payroll tax – and for many of these households, it is their largest tax liability. In
order to encourage employers to hire more employees in blighted areas we should
allow the employer to reduce the amount of payroll tax they pay per employee. In
addition, allowing low-to-middle- income families to keep more of their hard earned
money will help increase their standard-of-living.

Suspend the capital gains tax. This proposal allows any individual that owns stock or
tangible assets that are located within the areas deemed “Economic Freedom Zones”
to reduce their long-term capital gains tax rate to zero. This will reduce capital costs
and encourage greater investment in business and real estate in these areas.

And that's just to name a few of what this plan does. Here's the full deal: http://www.paul.senate.gov/files/documents/EconomicFreedomZones.pdf
This would leave a billion dollars back in the city of Detroit over a decade by them just keeping more of their money and growing businesses already in existence as an example. As these bankrupt areas start to revive it'll show that freer markets and capitalism are the causes and this will be called for to expand across the country and permanently put a stake in the heart of progressivism once and for all. I could go on and on about his other stances like pro-privacy/civil liberties by reigning in the NSA but I'll just stick with this as no other major candidate has ideas anywhere remotely close to Rand's cause the rest are just distractions. I like Cruz but he's too much of a war hawk.
