But if you look at failed boards, he's 2 of 9 for 22% failures.

Also, I would bet the heatsinks were removed on those boards because right in front of the fan the topside heatsinks will be sufficient, and removing the backside heatsinks especially right near the fan motor will improve airflow (less backpressure and ducting) for heatsinks farther down the board and keep the whole thing cooler overall.

Yeah, and making them put work into warranty support on top of it!

Need any 6-pin cables for the 12V side, or do you have that taken care of?

I have put up an official sales thread in Group Buys.

2445  Economy / Computer hardware / 5V/12V Molex adapter board, PCIe 6-pin input, 20A capable (GPU rigs and such) on: September 25, 2016, 10:05:00 PM
I have designed and successfully prototyped a small board which takes in 12V from 6-pin PCIe and outputs both 12V and 5V on three 4-pin jacks.

The board can handle outputting 20A on both 12V and 5V simultaneously. This is useful for powering GPU risers from a 12V-only server supply. Depending on your particular needs (most specifically the 12V current requirements), one board could power half a dozen risers. If your riser gets power from Molex only, 3 risers per board is more likely.

All materials have been ordered for the first batch of 100 boards, and I expect to start assembly in about two weeks. I'm taking in orders now so folks can lock in what they want and I can get a head start on cabling so full kit orders can ship immediately once boards are completed (a relatively quick process).

Boards are $15 apiece. 18" single-ended Molex cables are $1.75 apiece, or $2.50 with the sheathing.
I can sell a kit of one board with three cables for $20, or three sheathed cables for $22.30

I can also provide PCIe 6-pin cables and 6+2 cables of varying lengths. If you want something, shoot me a message and I'll run up a bid.

Shipping is going to depend on order size, but most orders should ship for $10 or less.

The new board's stock configuration will differ from the pictured board in two ways - the output jacks will be straight (like the 6-pins) instead of right-angle, and it'll have a couple small LEDs on there letting you know the 12V and 5V are powered and working.

I'll have a GB/Sales thread up in the next few days. Probably use USPS Small flat rate for shipping the little orders like that, Phil.
2447  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Gauging interest around some custom hardware and cabling for GPU rigs on: September 23, 2016, 08:31:13 PM
I'm gonna go ahead and say one board with three 18" cables is $20. Sheathing currently is some extra expense and a lot of extra hassle, so one board and three 18" cables is $22.30

I will probably set up a group buy thread. I'm not so much for preorders, but since this is a proven design and PCBs are already on order and so are pretty much all the components, I'm not too worried about it.

The standard cable as I've done it so far has a single Molex. If your riser has a separate PCIe for 12V you probably won't have to worry about overloading the adapter's 12V throughput, so the 5V demands would be the only real limit. I could make a cable with two Molex ends if you wanted, or just use an off-the-shelf splitter.

I don't know what you want for an adapter, because I don't know what you have for a cable. I just use 5-15P everything so it doesn't take anything special here.

I'm hoping to offer "package deals" like you're asking, Kilo. I don't have a good source for the 1500W PSU yet but there's time. The only issue with that in the short term is I'm at the end of my PSU board run and samples of the redesign will be arriving at the same time as the new Molex adapter boards, and a full batch won't come behind them for a while unfortunately.

Little farther off topic than ideal right now.
2451  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Gauging interest around some custom hardware and cabling for GPU rigs on: September 23, 2016, 02:40:38 AM
Right, but overclocking shouldn't wreck the power wiring if the power wiring doesn't suck. If you're smoking out the Molex into the riser there's a problem, since that shouldn't pull 100W.
2452  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Gauging interest around some custom hardware and cabling for GPU rigs on: September 23, 2016, 02:19:00 AM
Sounds like crap power wiring to me.

I'm really hoping I'll be able to build some for you, but right now I'm waiting for confirmed cooperation with a chip vendor. So far I'm at samples, but no datasheets or pinouts or prices. So who knows.

Tell you what, I'll see if I can scrounge up a Compac or two if you want to trade.
2454  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTB six S5 miners, doesn't matter if they work on: September 22, 2016, 09:39:44 PM
I double-checked mine and it's only 1 s5 that's the style you're looking for. Are you building more Compacs? If so, can I just send it to you in return for a Compac or discount on one?
The other unit actually works so it's probably worth more for me to hold onto that one.

Stickler'd that one for you.

I'm harvesting chips mostly for a commission job, sorry. No sticks to give away.
2455  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTB six S5 miners, doesn't matter if they work on: September 22, 2016, 07:03:05 PM
Dunno. What do you want for them, shipped slow-boat to MO 65401?

GayEddie mining for tits. No offense meant but that's pretty funny stuff.
2457  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [FS] GS Server PSUs, boards & kits, custom cables, GPU riser power, made in USA on: September 22, 2016, 05:48:18 PM
Depends on length and what terminations you want, and to some extent quantity. What are you looking for?
2458  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTB six S5 miners, doesn't matter if they work on: September 22, 2016, 05:18:44 PM
I probably should finish out some of the at this point comically outdated pod prototypes I have and see about auctioning them off or something. The last PCB I cooked up never got fully tested, but it should run directly off an S5 controller without having to hack anything.

I'll keep you in mind if I have trouble. I don't really need anything for a couple weeks so there's time to see what turns up.

A complete (and updated just this morning) listing of everything I have available right now.

Bump for some updates.

I have pared down some of the inactive items, notably the Dell 750W boards and kits. This board is currently in prototype for a new improved version which will allow both screw terminals and PCIe 6-pin jacks. It will also be designed to pair up with other D750 kits more readily for single-switch control of multiple supplies (which means a 1500W single rail from 120V is possible for about $100) and should implement thermostatic automatic fan control.

I have added 1200W and 1500W kit listings to the DPS812 board section. I think these are pretty great.

I have added a new product - a 5V adapter board intended to take in 12V and provide 5V and 12V output for GPU risers and other PC innards.

I also updated the cables section with more information - I can now manufacture 6-pin splitters, 6+2 cables and 4-pin Molex cables, as well as provide sheathing for cables at an additional cost.

New products are in development, including a current-gen Compac stickminer, a stout powered USB hub, and an ATX24 adapter for motherboard power from a server PSU.
