I can go to put in my setting in miner configuration but when I save it, the miner times outs, disconnects me.

I've reset so many times I think I'm an expert at it now lol

-I've set me computer's IP to 192.168.1.25
-The miner's IP is 192.168.1.99

I don't get it because when I log into the router (192.168.0.1) there is no lag.  Shouldn't it be similarly fast as a wireless router to work locally?

The save & apply doesn't seem to work at all, that's where I lose connection.

I've disconnected one of my PSU wires and there was no difference.  I even tried putting on a free PSU on the other blade, all it did was make a green light on the secondary blade go on.

Could it simply be a case of crummy wires?

The miner didn't change IP on its own, it's still at .25

It's just I can't get the miner to accept/save any setting I give it.

Hey Chuck, you asked the only question I was hoping you wouldn't ask lol

It wasn't easy considering one of my laptops has a pooched wifi card and this computer's over 20 years old lol

Quite a jump from a ThinkPad W530...  None the less...

I can now get to the page where you enter pool information but it never accepts it.

I'm trying to add Eligius, BTC Guild and BitMinter.

I can do pretty much everything else now other than do the save & apply function.  I keep getting hung up on.

Here's a shot of an ipconfig/all and it's all there it to it.  It's the only place there is anything other than zeroes.

So I left it be overnight, now I cannot log into the interface again.  Cry

I get the the page to enter the password and then I either time out or whatnot, connection is lost.

I keep trying and trying only to get the same message or get to the black screen then when I enter the password, boom, connection lost.

I've tried different ethernet cables.

Thing is, I think my computer has too many internet related settings so it could be conflicting somewhere.

I also don't have an IE browser which I think many were saying to use that one...  I just don't like it, too slow, too bulky.

The miner seems to be mining already, the fan is running fast/er and a decent amount of heat is coming out the end of it.

@Dogie - I'm not sending anything back, I ordered mine from the manufacturer directly.  If BitMain can't offer a working product out of the box and adequate level of service I will just write it off as a loss and throw it in the garbage and deal with another manufacturer who values my business.  Tis the second time I get screwed by BitMain in less than a month so I'm already not too happy with them.  I've more conviction to make it work, it's one thing with me, if something don't work, I'll keep hacking until it works.

I'll download IE then if that don't work I'll try using another, less busy computer to do set ups.

Also the lights on my laptop at the Ethernet card, the green is on but the orange flickers, which leads me to believe it's something with my computer and not the miner.  The one green light on the miner is always flashing...

Surely someone has had this issue before.  I don't think it's a miner issue as it is a local computer issue.
2444  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Networking Nightmare & Login Failures - AntMiner S1 on: May 06, 2014, 11:41:31 PM
I got it!  The interface it working now.

Looks like I needed to restart the miner.  It's going really slow right now, it's rather cold where I live so I'm gonna let it warm up, seems like it keep kicking me out of the interface, needs to get the cobs webs out, must have had some nasty @$$ spiders up in there.

Seems like the restart did it for me but who knows, when it comes to networking if something works for me, it's an absolute fluke lol

I'm getting better though!

I'll keep this going until my set up is up and running and I'll make a video in a day or so, been racking my head all day over this, now I know what to do.... namely, go to bed...  I think!  Roll Eyes

Saved my ass  Cheesy

As a thank you to the BitCoin community I'll use my equipment and plentiful time to make a nice video to cover:

-PSU Selection
-Hooking up the AntMiner
-Prepping the Network
-Configuration
-Action Jackson!

So if any questions ever arise, all you'll need is to give one link.  Just like number painting! =D

Do you have the Ant connected to the lan port of this modem directly by ethernet cable, or are you trying to configure the Ant wirelessly?

No, I am connected to the AntMiner via ethernet cable, it's in no way shape or form connected to any type of internet source yet.  My PC is connected to the miner and I use one a wireless connection to keep up to this thread and disable it to try things on the miner.  I've not yet had the miner online whatsoever yet, can't open the interface so I stopped there until I could figure things out.
2447  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Networking Nightmare & Login Failures - AntMiner S1 on: May 06, 2014, 09:40:38 PM
Dogie - I used your guide to help but didn't do much for me.  I also already tried reset too but did nothing but helped me on other things so thanks Smiley

It almost feels as though there is no interface software on either units.  When I ping it, it does return a result.

It's something weird I can't figure out, right now I'm just hacking at it, can't really make it worse.

However, when I type it in my FireFox, I get a white page, as though there is no software at all installed, like a 404.

I don't get that black page like others have.

Wait, does the machine HAVE to be connected to an intermediary, like to a router or such to access the web for the interface?

I'm connected on my main line, which is a modem/hub, LTE Network... nothing in between.

I can easily connect other PC's to it too but it's not necessarily a router either.

PS: I have two connections, neither are wired.  Oh the boonies..... lol

Hello again!

So I finally found a good deal on a pair of SeaSonic G Series and they are pretty good, considering I only pretty much got to set them up for mining, I'm pretty happy with them.  Now my new dilema, I need some help to understand the configurations, namely because none of the guides out there have specific information.  As you may have not noticed, English is not my first language.

I followed a few guides and they all come down to this statement that no one has the same opinion about it seems like.  There's also stuff missing, guide's a bit old... mind you in bitcoin land, 1 days is like a year.

Quote
Start Button  >>  Control Panel  >>  Network and Internet (View network status and tasks)  >>  Change adapter setting (Left side of the screen)  >>  Local Area Connection (Double Click)  >> Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) then Click on “Properties”  >>  Select Use the following IP address:

Please look at near the cooling fan on the AntMiner.  You’ll find a white sticker with an IP address printed on it.  (Example: 192.168.2.125)

Set your computer's IP address to the following:

IP Address: 192.168.2.254
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.2.1

For the DNS Setting:  Select “Obtain DNS server address automatically

I did all that down to the last part except I used 1's instead of 2's since my number was 192.168.1.99.  Well, guess what happens in Win7 When you click to assign the IP Manually?  It blacks out the option to "Obtain DNS server address automatically" and vice versa, so I am rather confused since the guide wants an auto DNS capture.  I also watched the video everyone recommends, not much effort was put into it (Language barrier, unsteady, bad audio, I will make a much better video once I get this all figured out but for now though, I need to make sense of all this and get those ants to work!

Anyways, I did everything else as the guide says but when I go to login to the miner, I get a white page, can't do nothing else.  I'm not sure if I have to be online or offline as it is not stated consistently in the guides when to be on or offline.  I've set the IPv4 to 192.168.1.25 then when I try to log in, that's where I get the white page, no interface loads up.  Please be as specific, I can deal with too "much information" rather having to rummage for more.

Thanks again, y'all helped do a great decision last time Smiley

I think I did everything and I'll be damned if I got a pair of faulty ants.  I know it's something simple out of sight...

Thanks again, y'allr the best Smiley

Alas, I don't live in USA and the Canadian side's BitCoin system isn't active yet.  This means they won't ship electronics when their Canadian side carries it because of carrier restrictions they say.  They don't want to enter it the Canadian yet because of the IRS laws; CRA doesn't have any regulations. (Pray it stays this way)

Of course, they won't say that outright though...  Well, it's actually a lot more technical than that but this is what it comes down to.

PayPal is also a wallet...

They find BitCoin to be a threat to them because they think BitCoin is the same thing they're doing, so anti-competition measures.
2451  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: In Your OPINION, What is the best way to use BTC to net more BTC? on: April 21, 2014, 01:38:15 PM
Mining rigs.

Even if BitCoin fails, I can put them to use.

Some will argue that ASIC is only made for mining but I could talk for days about this just isn't the true.

I prefer having something solid, tangible, that I can either resell or re-use.  If I can't do either or, I won't do either.

Otherwise you can look at online mining because you can start with like BTC0.01 per GH/S

Offline you have complete control and if something goes astray, you're the only one to blame.

Online you entrust the site operators to running a legit operation.  However, power outages, break downs and maintenance doesn't affect your profit.

There's also Ponzi's but that's in anything related to currencies but usually those are not recommended because the results are entirely out of your control.

I do mining both on and offline, nothing else can I the recent crashes didn't fend me off, to me, BitCoin is a video game because it has nearly all aspects of other profitable video games.

The game is an IRL baby-sitting miners game lol

If going full ASIC mining is too much for your tech level then you can start with USB miners since they're pretty much plug and play; plus USB miners are relatively cheap, as low as $15 for 336MHZ or about $25 for the AntMiner U1...

Hope this helps Smiley

In my opinion Bitcoin is a big scam which created by drug dealers, hackers, illegal money resources. We buy bitcoin to sell it.  It likes gambling. Everyone wants to make money easly. But there is no way to make money with buy bitcoin. We just beleive it and pray like the religion. Nobody really knows how to work bitcoin system. It is just there is a thing that value XXX or XXXX. But need to realize that we do that. There is no real thing.

I am lucky because I quit bitcoin buy and sell.

Wonderful!  Totally forgot about o.co, I was not aware THEY took BitCoin.  That made my day, I would have never thought about it Smiley

So I think that I'll go with a pair of RM550's seeming the praises for those units.  I just didn't know where I could find them, juggalo steered me to the right place to buy PSU's and I don't know why I didn't think about it.

Thanks a lot you guys Smiley

Very well,

The angry mob has spoken XD

In a perfect world I could use BitCoin in any store then that wouldn't even be an issue; but we're still some ways away from global acceptance.

That said, I think I'll go with a pair of Corsair TX750M for now, seems like the best bet.

Should be easy when it's time to flip them.

Sounds good?
2456  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Need help choosing a PSU on: April 19, 2014, 08:42:43 AM
Hey folks, thanks for all the answers!

Seems to me like like an overwhelming vote for Corsair but you guys missed something I said.  "I'd like to buy in BitCoin".

Primarily because I have no available cash on hand and don't wanna sell coin want to stop buying BitCoin based assets with cash altogether.  The only two places I know who sell mining related hardware for BTC is coinsfortech and miner source; who actually sell PSU's but selection is limited.  However, finding an 80 PLUS Gold or platinum PSU made by Corsair on those sites that is either hard or out of my price range for now.  Maybe I should have stated that I definitely wanted an 80 Plus Gold or plantinum minimum.  Every speaker amp I own has gold connectors and even my Pyle amp outperforms any amp without gold connectors but died because of cold weather.

Now this leads me to ask the following, is a Corsair Bronze as efficient (or more) as a CoolMaster Gold as far as energy savings are concerned?  Maybe the gap between bronze and Gold efficiency is minimal but I forward think a lot too.  I can always upgrade to Seasonic X's (Which seem to be the Holy Grail of PSU's) eventually but my goal is to fill that Bronze to Gold gap entirely and save that 10% on my energy bill.  However, if a Corsair Bronze is better energy-wise than the CoolMaster Gold either way then I don't really care if the PSU dies because that's something you need extra of regardless.

My logic is, if I start with an affordable PSU that does everything I need and lasts for the time being then once those PSU's paid for themselves and their savings will pay for Seasonic X's Platinum then no more need to upgrade on that front.  I just don't want to buy something that will die after a few months, I'd like to not upgrade for a year and I also don't want to spend all my time and coins buying PSU's either.

Anyone know other stores that take mining equipment other than the above two?

Thanks again Smiley

PS: Too late :p
2457  Bitcoin / Mining / Need help choosing a PSU on: April 18, 2014, 05:36:17 PM
Hey BTCTalk!

I need help choosing a PSU to work alone, meaning, 1 miner, 1 PSU.  If history taught me one thing is that it's always the best way and I like to do things the right way, the best way, from the get go, so it leaves nothing on the table.  To me, the PSU is as much an investment as the mining machine itself.  Well, there like a million PSU's out there and I'd like to buy in BitCoin but I find it hard to find sites to buy computer and mining related stuff you can buy with BitCoin.  I would be bound to believe that every computer and nerdy type store would take BitCoin but alas...

I guess a drawback of being a pioneer.  I been reading this site for long but never needed to comment nor ask anything but looks like miners in this industry are very similar to miners in the Gold industry in which I also have mining assets.

I'd like suggestions and like anything, I want to get the best bang for my buck.  I value reliability and durability above all.

I have my eye on a few but I'd also like to avoid the gross retail markup.  So far, I found this to be the best bang for my buck:

CoolMaster S80 PLUS Gold RS550 PSU

I think it's a good deal right now and it's single rail from what I read...  which one single S1 will run will run on one of those right?  It puts out 550 Watts but I don't know the company CoolMaster; first thing that comes to mind is MasterCraft - CanadianTire mid quality crap.  Or well, on paper it should but I'd like to hear out if anyone used those for one single S1.  If someone can save me the headache by either saying, that it works well for them or to run in the opposite direction then it could look like I could have a decent source for those because the deal is half decent and they seem quite mass produced.

I know this PSU debate is never ending...  computers are my thing and I have this OCD called perfectionism... lol

Thanks in advance for insight and advice in advance.  Please, no "don't even start" crap, it's fair to say everyone in this site was probably told that at some point lol.  I have time and I'm not money hungry either, I'm a professional war gamer and developer, BitCoin to me is the easiest game I ever played...  It just happens to pay a lot better than any other game I pay to play.  I also happen to live in a cheap energy nation.  Lucky me eh, so why not.

Peace out!

2458  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mining contracts - the new ponzi on: April 18, 2014, 03:30:25 PM
I bought some online contracts from PB Mining to diversify my mining assets and I like the idea of not paying electricity at the time.  I also got the generic response you mention but that's not common exclusively to the ponzi scheme industry.

It does look ponzi'ish in nature but if we look at think realistically and do some math.

1- Bitmain AntMiners, S1's included, power 20% minimum of the BitCoin network
2- BitmainTech S1's are relatively cheap at less than $400 USD per unit (Currently) from the manufacturer; which you need to buy in at the right times.
3- When I bought 200GH/s, the price on PBMining would show a solid $200 profit for them compared to buying an S1 & PSU for it.

Consider the following:
-Right now, the price is 0.0058BTC per GH/s
-The AntMiner S1 is about $450 right now or, 0.885 per unit last price
-If you bought 200GH/S from PBMining it would cost you 1.16BTC or $562.80

This means that you need to get the electricity for pretty cheap but the site claims they are located in Saskatchewan, Canada, where electricity prices average 10 cents per KW/h.

At that price, one ant miner costs me around $35 a month and whatever is leftover from your purchase which is more than included.  Saskatchewan is also a very large, flat and empty province, they could easily have a solar energy or wind farm.  So far the story makes sense.  Also, for a while, contracts were closed for purchase.  To me this means that they are responsible owners and not overselling their product.  Since then prices been going down.  This tells me that power costs pay for themselves.

The catch is, at the end of the 5 years, they keep the machines, you are stuck having to buy again, so you have to figure your re-investment costs accordingly.  From what I noticed, it is following the line of what it should, like the recent drop in prices means a lot less trading after the "Skittish Cats" have left the game.  My earnings dropped by about 25% since then... but my other miners also suffered this same drop because not as many transactions are done on the network itself which is how the majority of miners are paid, as a result of mining transaction fees.  I been using the earning to buy high quality PSU's for my offline mines, it also helped me getting started offline mining.

I guess it's how you look at it.  I've not yet quite made my money back but it's only been a few months and suffered a major crisis in the meantime.  I re-invest whatever pay I get in either gold or offline mining assets. If this is a ponzi, it looks a lot like actual investment mining.  The owner is probably making money from the number of investors and no quite from the mining endeavors.  I don't think they're crooks myself.  However, it depends on your living circumstances.  Some people, like in Germany, pay $0.35 per KW/H and it's $0.10 AVG in Canada.

1- If you live where electricity is below $0.15 then go offline.
2- If you live with parents, go online (You'll keep killing their power grid and piss them off lots)
3- If you want to invest secretly from spouse etc...  Go online.
4- If you live in an OLD place...  Go online.
5- If you have alternative energy sources, go offline.
6- If you're spending your life saving and none will stop you, go offline regardless.

Would I recommend it?  Sure!  I've yet to be able to prove them as a scam; which is by definition is a blatant deceitful money grab.  It does smell ponzi and the recent price drop gives it that effect so it's tough to tell if the drop is due to the past few week's speculations or the increase in difficulty.  Usually prices drops early upon joining a ponzi scheme which wants you to keep spending to keep on top of a rotator or whatever so it's too hard to tell.

So yeah, don't spend your life savings on a website where there is no corporate backing.  PB Mining is a business, not an incorporation which to me is the "suspicious" aspect of it.  However, I would do business the exact same way because it's a good business model, you get free equipment after 5 years.  I live in Canada too so I know it's a feasible due to our modest energy costs.
