2441  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to run and operate your own bitcoin node on: October 28, 2019, 11:19:41 AM
It may be viable for those who have spare funds to liquidate to contribute to the network. But for those who are short in funds, as much as they want to help the network, they can't really afford to contribute. Still though, a nice post to read that spreads knowledge about the core foundation of the bitcoin network, and potentially attract people here to help the network and improve the market.
2442  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase New Phone 2FA Issue on: October 28, 2019, 09:47:57 AM
I'm not familiar with this type of recovery method for lost account number. The more familiar approach is directly through email, the support staff would assist you there and would confirm your identity. Double check the email if it came from the legitimate site. Some may have seen your intent and you're maybe a target of spear-phishing. Be always aware before you send sensitive information to anyone in the internet. Once it's sent, it could be used to fraudulent acts and identity theft.
2443  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it Possible To Mine Bitcoin with Supercomputer? on: October 28, 2019, 08:44:37 AM
These Russians were jailed for attempting to mine bitcoin at a nuclear facility. Would they really have gotten coins mining with a supercomputer? https://www.cryptoinfowatch.com/russian-nuclear-engineer-jailed-for-mining-bitcoin-at-work/
Replying to the original question, it's possible that supercomputer could mine bitcoin, but it's not profitable, and not significantly faster that current mining rigs. Current hash rates would not be that much affected. The chips used in supercomputers are designed for other purposes and ASICs are much better at hash cryptography, much lesser electrical power and cooling needed. The lower the cost, the higher the profit.
2444  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My Bitcoin beat Bank interest rates and inflation. :-> on: October 28, 2019, 07:01:10 AM
Bank interest rates won't give you much profit really. It's interest rates are too low for a year and putting your money stagnant in your account won't bring you anywhere. Investment is much better, whether be it in crypto, bitcoin, or other assets but bank is not a viable option. You need to risk in order to gain, it's just that bitcoin is much more risky than others, but returns are definitely higher.
2445  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Applying Satoshi's Ideas on: October 28, 2019, 06:12:37 AM
We cannot clear the market from fraudulent ICOs and scams if we don't want regulatory board to oversee the market. If no one would impose and implement such regulations, scammers and exploiters would just be able to continue what they're doing without worrying about being penalized. We need at least one organization that would be responsible for crypto-related projects and have legal signings to make them responsible for their investors.
2446  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China Has Something to Do with Bitcoin's Price Increase After All on: October 28, 2019, 05:01:31 AM
China’s state-controlled television station, CCTV.com, recently hosted a segment breaking down Bitcoin, according to a prominent trader that closely follows the region’s cryptocurrency scene.

China's state controlled television explaining the basics of "first ever blockchain technology" #bitcoin $btc, and how a distributed ledger works

Imagine 1.3 billion people got to know bitcoin because state made an effort to explain how it works.
Well now I'm quite confused. It really looked like it was only a whale manipulating the market. With much privacy to China, these news isn't relayed to us instantly. I've speculated at first that China has something to do with their announcement, but I certainly didn't know about it going on national television, so I thought it was just another whale. If it's true, then the possibility that China being one of the reason of the sudden surge is likely.
2447  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Beware; Do not Fall for Phishing Sites, Do Not Be a Victim of Scams on: October 28, 2019, 03:00:16 AM
Most scams targets those who aren't aware of the ways of the internet. They'll blindly follow the hope of huge rewards, not thinking while doing actions such as pay-to-get rewards schemes. Almost all of the time, when one site does that, it's outright scam and double think always if you're entering sensitive data on the internet because once it's submitted, there's no turning back.
2448  Economy / Speculation / Re: Don't react to the fluctuations on: October 28, 2019, 02:08:15 AM
One of the greatest challenge of having a volatile market. It's hard to keep decisions in mind because of high price fluctuations and unpredictability of price direction due to market manipulation by whales. Even me, I'll admit that I sometimes stress out and get off track, making the wrong decisions. However, it's not necessarily bad, it's normal that we're being droven by these fluctuations especially if we are day traders. If however you are one of those hodl for life and only care for long-term investment, it's better to stay off the charts.
2449  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: In 2019 over 40m cryptocurrency wallets have been created on: October 28, 2019, 12:50:14 AM
Good to hear but not that surprising. Holders of bitcoin are most likely having multiple wallets to further manage their holdings. And having said that it's 3 years before, which is 2016, the 2017 bull run is the greatest factor to the sudden increase in bitcoin wallets. People are just FOMO and straight out want to buy Bitcoin at that time. However, after that, I don't think there's much new wallets generated. Still a nice news to hear though.
2450  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is a Tech not "Manna" from the skies! on: October 27, 2019, 01:46:59 PM
I think what OP's trying to convey is that Bitcoin's white paper does not tell anything about solving poverty. And these other people claiming that the technology (Bitcoin) have failed, when in fact, it really is a success since the main purpose, having P2P payment solution without intermediary, has been achieved by Satoshi.

People replying to this post should read twice, OP should reconstruct his sentence for clearer expression of ideas.
2451  Economy / Economics / Re: Cryptocurrency usage will boost economy or make it worst ? on: October 27, 2019, 12:55:45 PM
What if all those big corporates and businesses starts using crypto as a mode of payment just to avoid tax which will cause a direct loss to the government which uses tax for the betterment of the country. This might not affect corrupt countries as it doesn't matter because tax money goes to politician's coffers but what about developed nations?
I don't think the governments would approve companies to use cryptocurrencies in their modes of payment. If however they wish to use it, they government might make an exchange exclusively to companies that will enable them to monitor, and impose taxes per transaction made, or whatever system they implement to claim taxes. Whatever their move is, if the government started seeing tax evasion cases through crypto, they'll surely be doing something about it.
2452  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Market is Not Ready for Libra on: October 27, 2019, 09:01:40 AM
Facebook wants Libra to go live as soon as possible because they have fear of missing out in the cryptocurrency race. They want it as early as now, but being under a government that has hot eyes on cryptocurrencies, and Facebook being too popular, they need to pass through regulations, which isn't done yet and with controversies to Facebook's way of handling data and privacy, Libra is having a hard time to go to the market. Anyway, I don't think Libra is semi-centralized. It still seems centralized to me.
2453  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's your favorite way to receive money as a gift? Cash or digital.. on: October 27, 2019, 05:39:07 AM
I prefer having it as a digital currency because I prefer saving money than spending it for temporary happiness. And having it digital, cryptocurrency or fiat, would make it harder for me to spend it, especially in my country where digital mode of payment is not widely adopted. BTC is fine and digital fiat, and some top altcoin, but it'll cover up some exchange fees to convert it to my local currency though.
2454  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: don't rely on gift tokens, balance your time with other things. on: October 27, 2019, 04:52:50 AM
don't rely on gift tokens because that will only bore you and not to mention you have to wait for them to be listed on the exchange or at least until they have a sale price to make up for your hard work.
I suggest balancing your time with other things you can do in this market and I think there are many ways to make a profit besides a prize campaign. I say this because I also feel bored with them and what I produce from gift tokens does not produce sweet fruit.
at this time I balance with trading, how about you?
It's still better to have a main job and doing bounties in your spare time looks like a better option. Having stable income is better rather than those tokens that have uncertainty if it's going to be listed on some exchange. If however, you want to full-time go on crypto, then maybe trading is a lot viable option for you. You control your time, your trades, and profit is promising, but the risks are also high. Still though, every decision comes with risks. They just vary in degrees of possible loss/profit.
2455  Economy / Speculation / Re: It's still going down (Oct 26, 2019) on: October 27, 2019, 04:08:15 AM
Even though price of BTC bumped up yesterday from $7,400 up to 10,400.  Price is still in a downtrend.

I am not too optimistic just from one day of big green candles along with some announcement from China.

Heavily manipulated it is, more and more every day. Good bye.
That's why I sold off some of my btc instead of holdimg because there might be another whale selling off to gain the profit, as it looks like there's not much uptrend, they're likely to sell it off again unless they're still hoping for another increase. It's good for a while for those who swam along the whales but I can say more likely today that it's definitely manipulated. We can't get anymore from this and I don't think it's gonna pump up any sooner. But that's the life of BTC, it's all in the prediction, we can't read their minds.
2456  Economy / Economics / Re: What makes a Fiat worthless? on: October 27, 2019, 03:27:21 AM
We have come across so many national currency becoming worthless and recently we have heard the news of barter system in Zimbabwe due to the fall in the value of national currency but what really makes the Fiat worthless? Is it corruption or war or national economical crisis? Or the National GDP which makes it fall?
Inflation plays an important role in dictating fiat's value. Although economic and corruption also is a factor on why it happens. If there is an economic slowdown, or the government just prints money out of thin air, it's highly likely that the inflation the is caused by that would make their money useless. Or if some corrupt official not doing his job, cutting national budget for kickbacks, which would slow down progress, would also slowdown the economy, GDP alongside with currency.
2457  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Unrealistic bounty allocations on: October 27, 2019, 02:35:16 AM
I'm more into projects that are realistic than those who are promising to achieve such feats that are quite unreasonable or unattainable in the current situation. I believe that having a project in mind should be a step-by-step process in smaller objectives rather than those projects that aim-high, fall-hard schemes. These are more prone to scams, so preferring the projects that are believable is most likely to bring you good than those who are not.
2458  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The vast majority of trading volume was faked. on: October 27, 2019, 01:43:52 AM
This is one problem in these exchanges, and without solid regulatory boards, these exchanges can do anything as they please to lure various altcoins to their exchange, profiting a lot of money. They does it to increase their trading volume and activity, thus making it look like their exchange is highly active, has a lot of user base, and therefore profitable, which is not the true case. Only few exchanges are honest in reporting their trade true trading volumes and these are the ones you can really trust.
2459  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: dormant addresses are waking up? on: October 27, 2019, 12:49:17 AM
We can have different scenarios here that may explain these transactions. Its either:

(1) There is a single owner that suddenly remembered about his bitcoins and decided to use them or suddenly found his list of public and private keys, or

(2) This could be a group of early bitcoin holders that had talks and decided now is the time to pull out or transfer those bitcoins.

Either way, 8 years is way too long and I it's unlikely that it's planned. It's maybe a forgotten asset and remembered, while luckily keeping private keys safe.
2460  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin's Latest Rise Was Manipulated? on: October 26, 2019, 01:25:11 PM
I personally think the price of bitcoin is most of the time manipulated rather than pure crowd's demand surge. These whales are manipulating the market to their advantage, and we may see the waves come back at us and these whales starts dumping while people would still think it's just temporary dips. I can't see strong correlation with China's recent statement since it is only for blockchain and they're still against Bitcoin usage.
