As we all know, the authorities have a fine tradition of doing the sensible thing and being quick to understand and embrace emerging technologies and wouldn't, for instance, freeze the accounts of every exchange they can find and issue a press release stating they have crippled underground trading by closing the accounts used to channel funds into these criminal organizations...

Another good reason to stay clear from centralized exchanges as much as possible. I expect a similar move any time from now on.
I just hope that the GLBSE has a good backup plan up and ready.

and if anything as heavy handed as that should happen, what does bitcoin have in its defense, what does it have to present to Joe Public as a legal and legitimate usage?

Are we already at the point of having to prove one's innocence?
Yes, I know. My suggestion is to stay as much underground as possible anyway, always deny everything to the "authorithies", and try to keep confidential info confidential.

if the powers that be choose to attack it and close down every exchange development will continue but it will be a big setback to its growth and a huge pain in the butt.

I would see this as free publicity. Many ppl are smarter than that and appreciate real value. In any case if TPTB were not able to stop any form of cybercrime, you can figure what could they do about BTCs.

So for the moment who is using AMD puters is supposed to be safe from this mother-of-all-rootkits?

Otherwise I would suggest to put together some BTC to pay a prize to whoever comes out with a way to kill this orwellian device.

I would be more encouraged to invest if:
1. you get verified on the GLBSE
2. You tell us something about your hardware assets and a measure of MHs per bond.
Thanks

I'd bet it's the other way around.

All feedback welcome!

Even the Internet cafe may be not really needed: you might use localization apps like google latitude to find and be found.
2472  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: July 23, 2012, 02:14:38 PM
Gold down, Bitcoin UP.

What goes up and upper, at some point has to come back down.
Let's hope that this will be a soft landing, not crashing and burning. It may get interesting if the banksters start playing with BTCs like they do with PMs.

Wonder if this may be relevant for the BTC mining scene?

I keep invested about 70% of my BTC on the GLBSE from some time, but it is just play money, since I am quite worried that it may vanish in the air, be hacked, or taken down for a reason or the other.
Otherwise, the biggest mining companies seem quite a solid investment to me.
2475  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The thing nobody talks about. on: July 19, 2012, 04:17:55 PM
Why not simply use Bitcoin.

I would be really scared if evil governments, central banks, and what have you started playing with BTCs.
They could corner the market in a nanosecond.

2. Enjoy the interest rates while they last ,every 4 months  you double your outcome

If you compound, you double the investment in 10 weeks (if you are lucky).

I could have had 2 buy orders filled for 0.329 more.
And we don't know if that would have been the correct option since I am too lazy to calculate every operation in my long .CSV history.
2479  Economy / Securities / Re: Numbers do not add up in my GLBSE account on: July 18, 2012, 08:01:30 PM
remove buy order and see what happens.

Order removed and now I am poorer:
Balance: 0.27717 | Available: 0.27717
Thanx   Lips sealed
2480  Economy / Securities / Re: Numbers do not add up in my GLBSE account on: July 18, 2012, 06:01:50 PM
Note that I have Buy orders for TWO 0.1645 shares,
if you add 0.107 you get 0,434, much more than the 0,27 in the balance
