2461  Other / Meta / Re: Post Deleted For No Good Reason on: November 01, 2021, 11:08:13 AM
Man, I agree with what you wrote in that post and I wish there were videos on Youtube that actually criticized NFTs.  Instead, even if you search for "NFTs suck" or "NFTs are a scam" all you get are videos hyping the hell out of them.

What section did you post that in, anyway?  Was your post on topic?

One possibility is that one of the posts you quoted got deleted, because if I'm not mistaken when that happens yours gets deleted as well.  Another is that some really nuclear-hyped-up NFT fanboy reported your post for being negative toward them and a mod just agreed with the report without thinking about it too much--it's not a shitpost by any means, IMO, so I don't think it'd get reported otherwise.
2462  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Another HITBTC scam report - 2021 on: October 31, 2021, 10:18:10 PM
They are still operating because they don't ask you for any additional requirement upon registration and deposits. The platform is also opened for listing shit tokens either permanently or for a certain period of time [depends on how much the team is able to pay for listing, regardless its credibility].
Yeah, I used them once or twice for some obscure altcoin that could have been one of a few that I was interested in a while back, and they were the only exchange that listed it and that I could register on.  And yep, I got hit with the KYC requirement at the withdrawal step, and there was no mention of that upon registering.  True, I should have done more research before even thinking about doing business with them, but I didn't.  But that doesn't excuse them from leading people to believe that KYC isn't required.

Can you imagine a bank that lets you open an account and doesn't ask for your documents until you try to withdraw money?  That would be crazy.

And like Yobit exchange, HitBtc doesn't care that much about building a good repuation within crypto community.
True, but Yobit has never asked for KYC documents.  They just scam people in different ways.
2463  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Buying crypto in USA or canada on: October 31, 2021, 05:56:55 PM
KuCoin is the possible solution for this but there's a chance they will froze your funds [1]
I didn't read the link you posted, but from the title it looks like that applies to Canadian residents, and OP mentioned that his friend is in the US.  I'm not even sure Kucoin deals with fiat even if you're verified, though I could be mistaken.  And yes, you can trade USDT/BTC there, but first you have to get ahold of some USDT which presents a similar problem, i.e., finding an exchange.

If you're looking to trade 1:1, good luck.  I'd always recommend trying the Currency Exchange section on the forum, because there are always members looking to trade bitcoin for cash, though you have to know who you're dealing with and usually you never really do.  But 1:1 trades are definitely possible there.
2464  Other / Meta / Re: [LOG] The ranked up members - Congratulations! on: October 31, 2021, 05:47:26 PM
As one of the users who is listed as a spammer[/url] then I salute your desire and persistence to improve the quality of your posts so that you can rank up to Legendary.
Huh.  I didn't know actmyname had tagged him as a spammer--not that would have influenced my decision to help ShowOff out with merits, because he's obviously improved his posting habits since that feedback was given in January.  I haven't looked at ShowOff's posts from that period, but if they were bad enough to deserve that feedback, then I'd say the leopard has changed its spots in this case.

You are right, because the spammer label assigned by a forum user [DT or other User] on a profile via a neutral or negative tag does not fully prove that the user will forever remain a spammer.
That's obviously true in ShowOff's case as I just mentioned, but that example is an exception to the rule, not the norm.  Most shitposters who've come here to earn money from bounties or whatever tend to remain shitposters for the rest of their time on the forum (at least that's what I've observed).
2465  Economy / Reputation / Re: Quickseller is a dangerous person to deal with - avoid on: October 31, 2021, 03:44:22 PM
No, I never had anything to do with him and I certainly never attacked him in any way.
If this is what he considers to be an attack on him than I think that something is seriously wrong with him, and I hope he gets well soon:
dkbit98, I would just roll with this and let it slide off you like water from a duck's buttocks.  Maybe Quickseller is in a bad mood or on his period.  Don't get slick with sweat and anger over this, because it's just words.  A few of us have had beefs with him and other members of the forum just like you and QS did, and the best thing to do is not to escalate it--it'll never end otherwise, and it's just not worth the time and mental energy to argue continuously over something that to me seems extremely trivial.

Funny how you bumped this particular thread to air your grievance in public, by the way.  I'm amused by it.
2466  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Where should I incorporate to protect my assets in binance on: October 31, 2021, 06:31:04 AM
In Indonesia, the tax policy on crypto ownership has not been regulated despite several plans.
That's odd that any government right now wouldn't have some sort of tax or regulatory policy regarding cryptocurrency.  It's not like bitcoin was introduced to the world a few months ago--governments have had over a decade to figure out how they're going to deal with its existence.

The best people to talk to are Binance themselves as they will guide Mr John with facts and right way of going about this. Just avoid pseudo names when something goes wrong it's a tedious process to resolve.
I agree with all of that.  Sounds like a somewhat complicated situation OP's described--and I'd also second the opinion of those who advised OP's friend not to use Binance like a bank.  This is crypto we're talking about, not fiat, and while Binance might be the most reputable exchange out there, there's no telling what could happen with them or any other exchange.  It's far better to control your own bitcoin (or whatever coin) using wallets that you yourself control.
2467  Other / Meta / Re: No begging - did I catch on rule #7 on: October 31, 2021, 03:58:42 AM
I do agree that the no begging rule should be enforced more evenly, or clarified to be acceptable under certain circumstances.
I agree, because why would established forum members be allowed to "beg" but not others?  And even though I pose that question, I know damn well that a member here who's got a good reputation and appears to be asking for donations for something is likely to be legitimate in his/her request than someone who just registered here and created a thread with some sob story and asking for money.

I'd prefer clarification as to what's considered "begging" as opposed to equal enforcement, because I think it ought to be allowed to ask for donations for things like that biliary atresia surgery but not "Im poor, plz donate to [insert bitcoin addy here]" and there's a big difference between the two--and yet both can be considered begging.
2468  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Update on: October 31, 2021, 02:17:19 AM
Yes.
You want to bet that this is not the end of it?
Lol.  Give OP a little bit of a break (or not; it's your choice).  He's clearly expressed interest in crypto and hardware wallets for quite a while now, but he's just a tad more paranoid and perhaps OCDish than the rest of us--and way more paranoid than a bitcoiner needs to be about security.

And I too downloaded at least 3 different Ledger Live updates in the last few weeks.  One of them was the update to the software itself, and the others were for specific wallets.  No problems, and this is business as usual for Ledger as far as I'm concerned.
2469  Economy / Reputation / Re: Lacking Activity to reach Full Member on: October 30, 2021, 01:52:26 AM
This is one of the best awards in particular (for me personally), I will try to do my best as I should.
Well, it's obvious you're already trying--that's why I gave you all those merits.  So just keep up the good work and I doubt you'll have trouble climbing the ranks here.  Legendary will be the hardest, since it requires not only 1000 merits but an activity score that's random, but if you stick around and at least maintain the same quality of posts as you've been making thus far, it'll happen.

Thanks again for the offer. Yes and one more thing I not very fluent in English, so it looks messy Smiley
I didn't intend that as a jab toward you.  It was just to point out that as far as giving merits, I'm looking for posts that at least make sense and that have obviously been thought through.  I've probably lowered my standards as far as grammar goes, but they're still pretty high and I think it's about time I lowered them anyway.

Ultimately this is a forum where we communicate through writing, so one should have some proficiency in the language they post in, but I do realize there are people here from all over the world whose first language isn't English.
2470  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Airdrop participants scam!!! on: October 30, 2021, 01:25:19 AM
Scammers always choose Telegram for this kind of scam.
That's one of a few reasons why I don't use that service or any like it--and I already had an impersonator a few months back which prompted me to include the warning that I don't use telegram in my profile.  Any social media or messaging site/app is going to be full of scammers, guaranteed.  Even this forum is.

Isn't this one of the main drawbacks of using a wallet like Metamask?  If I'm not mistaken, it requires an account and I used to hear all kinds of stories about problems with it back when I used to visit the altcoin sections.  I don't use it, so I'm not sure if it's more prone to attack by hackers than something like a software wallet.  But in any case, I'd say if you're seeing an advertisement on telegram for anything crypto-related, 99% of the time it's going to be a scam in one form or another.  Take the advice of other members and just report that crap and move on.
2471  Economy / Reputation / Re: Lacking Activity to reach Full Member on: October 29, 2021, 06:00:12 PM
I did write this about OP in the Ranking-Up Pipeline thread, which I definitely would not have done if I didn't think his posts were seriously under-merited:

This week's list was kind of a dud (though I only un-ignored a few sections, so there were probably a lot of posts I couldn't see) with the exception of Awaklara, who's made some pretty damn good posts in addition to his forum detective work.  If anyone else is looking for a quick way to dump some merits on someone, that's where I'd start on this list.
The way I see it is that Awaklara obviously puts effort and time into his posts, even if his English isn't exactly perfect.  That's way more than can be said of most members of his rank, and IMO he deserves some recognition for that and some help ranking up.

OP, if you want to contact me via PM in 30 days I'll be happy to review your post history and see if I can drop some more merits on your growing collection.  I don't mind at all, so don't hesitate to PM me.
2472  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My Past three months bitcoin journey on: October 29, 2021, 01:17:59 PM
This is what I miss when I have the Bitcoin Discussion section on ignore.  Sigh.

OP, this is a great thread for one.  It shows others that putting aside just a small amount per week (granted, it's not small for everybody) for bitcoin can add up in terms of BTC and its fiat value pretty steadily.  Imagine if you'd bought $25/week worth of bitcoin back in 2015 or at any point when it was worth, say, $10k.  That would have been a hell of a return--but who knows how high bitcoin can go at this point?

Second, I assume you're probably young, and cutting back on things like fast food delivery and using the money to invest for the future shows a lot of wisdom and maturity.  To all the young people here in their 20s-30s, I'd advise you to follow OP's plan or at least do something similar, even if it's investing in stocks, metals, or what have you.  You'll be glad you did when you're older and have a family--or even if you remain single.  There will come a time when you either don't want to work anymore or can't, and you'll be in deep shit if you don't have a nest egg.

Glad I saw this thread, OP.  Props to you.

These are the members I remember posting a lot maybe a year (or more) ago, and along with the members known to have died or simply left the forum, I kinda miss seeing them around.  I almost feel like a 90-year old man whose friends have all died--though I'm sure I'm being a bit melodramatic there, because I wasn't friends with any of those members.  Their posts were interesting to read, though, especially TMAN's and gentlemand's.  Wonder where they are these days?

There are others as well who aren't on this list because they weren't top merit earners, and I'm thinking of xtraelv right off the top of my head, though there are others.

I think that's the saddest statistics in the forum
Unless there's a thread dedicated to deceased forum members, I'd have to agree with you there, bud.
2475  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? on: October 29, 2021, 12:44:32 AM
It's easy to overestimate the importance of that metric, though.  Some people can watch loads of content on a given channel and still never subscribe to it.
I understand that, I truly do.  But my first thought upon seeing the teaser video was to smash that like button and subscribe for more content (a phrase that I'm sure every single one of you recognizes).  I subscribed immediately because I wanted to support the channel and help it out in a small way by adding to its subscriber numbers--and whether other folks who've posted in this thread don't have a habit of subscribing to channels they watch frequently or not, I kind of expected the same sentiment from many of them, that they'd show their support by subbing to the channel.

And believe me, I very rarely subscribe to any channels.  I'm exactly the type of Youtuber who doesn't need that functionality to help me find stuff worth watching.  But subscribing to bitcointalk's channel?  That was a no-brainer for me.
2476  Economy / Reputation / Re: Do you think Lightlord behavior is acceptable? on: October 29, 2021, 12:29:49 AM
A bit weird, isn't it?
Not really, considering lightlord's history of royally screwing things up in the campaigns he's responsible for and/or mismanaging his own casino.  It might be weird if those wallets belonged to a different campaign owner, but not lightlord.

It has now been 11 days since Brainboss wrote that post, and Lightlord still has not transferred the funds. I don't know what to think.
You can think what you like, but personally I think this is just another example of lightlord not giving a shit about his campaign participants, which is a serious sign of disrespect and a breach of the agreement campaign owners and their participants have between them, where the latter agree to rent out their sig space and the former agrees to pay them.  The unspoken, unwritten part of this "contract" is that payments should be on-time, just like with real-life employment.

Some people wear his casinos signature anyway, even though they know they won't get paid for this period.
Well, desperate members who probably believe in the tooth fairy exist in great numbers on this forum, so the fact that some of them are still doing work for which they may not get paid isn't surprising.

However, I think if one wanted to give lightlord a firm smack in the face in the form of a reality check, they would delete their Bitvest signature immediately and move on to the next available campaign (or not).  Continuing to wear his signature without payment is giving him advertising for free, and that likely just emboldens him to keep up his malicious indifference toward his campaigners.
2477  Economy / Economics / Re: $1 Billion Science Fund to Use Blockchain Projects to Extend Human Lifespan on: October 29, 2021, 12:05:27 AM
I don't understand exactly what this quote is talking about, and I'm at least semi-literate in the language of medicine (although nearly completely illiterate in that of computer science).  That 80% of data generated by the average hospital lacks structure how?  And what about the structure makes that data inaccessible to researchers?

The other question I have is that most data from clinical hospitals isn't used for any research purposes--it's used for patient care, insurance issues, and covering the medical staff's asses.
Quote
Healthcare data is immense and creates challenges in centralization and security. On average, a hospital produces 760 terabytes of data every year. However, 80% of the data lacks structure and is inaccessible to researchers, according to an article by Garri Zmudze from Longevity Science Foundation.

The need for security and reoccurring consent of the data usage prevents progress for medical research. With the help of blockchain and AI, patient consent can be easily obtained, data can be unlocked for analysis, and its usage can be transparent.

If anyone can explain to me like I'm a 5-year old what the above words mean, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Ways this project is related to blockchain & crypto.

1.  A crypto coin is used to raise funds in an effort to fund the project
2.  Token holders vote to determine how funding and resources are allocated
3.  Blockchain is used to protect the integrity of medical data
4.  It is claimed their blockchain design protects privacy and data of patients
Hmm....sounds like a typical ICO scam project.  My gut feeling is that blockchain technology isn't going to be the method by which human life is prolonged to 120 years or so.  I'm not even sure it has any use in the medical field whatsoever.  There were a few ICO projects focusing on medicine, and none of them went anywhere as far as I know.

I'd love to see all of those things described in the opening paragraph come to fruition, but this project?  Eh, I don't know.

Token, dao, invest, ...no! This is not about the human lifespan this is about making money.
This is another one of those threads where I posted before reading the comments, but now that I have read them I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this thing is a load of unholy horse shit.
2478  Other / Off-topic / Re: Facebook Plan To Rebrand Name To Meta on: October 28, 2021, 08:23:55 PM
I've only heard bits of info here and there about what's going on with Facebook as far as their problems are concerned, but as I understand it they're coming under a lot of scrutiny from the government for their privacy policies and whatnot.  That's so hypocritical of the US government, it's almost laughable if it weren't so Orwellian.

And yes, I do happen to think this rebranding/renaming of their shiny new thing is a blatant attempt at misdirection and distraction.  They know damn well they've reduced people's attention spans to a small fraction of what they used to be, so obviously they think if they fart in the room loud enough, people's heads will turn away from the main issues long enough for them to come up with a plan.

Also, fuck Facebook and Zuckerberg.  Both of them are the reason (along with the existence of smartphones) why 20 people can be standing in a room together and not be genuinely social--because they're on a cheap substitute, i.e., social media.  It's sickening, and I'll have no part of it.
2479  Economy / Economics / Re: What happened? on: October 28, 2021, 05:29:57 PM
OP, you're just starting out in the crypto market, and you've made one observation which I'd advise you to not expect to hold true in all cases.  If bitcoin and various altcoins behaved predictably, everyone would be getting rich trading and you wouldn't need to take a course to do it.

The truth is that crypto is extremely unpredictable, and bitcoin may or may not move in lockstep with altcoins.  Sometimes alts move by themselves (up or down) based on hype, increased demand, selloffs, or what have you.  You can look for explanations and listen to members give their thoughts on why the bitcoin/altcoin markets move together (or don't), but in the end you're the one who's got to pull the trigger when it comes time to trade--and don't expect the market to do what you want or expect it to do, because oftentimes it doesn't.

Good luck trading; I sincerely wish you the best, because it's not easy.
2480  Economy / Reputation / Re: Post your Ranking Up Celebration Here! on: October 28, 2021, 01:02:51 AM
In my opinion, this is a good idea to avoid clutter in this forum. There are thousands of threads already and some have redundant topics.
For one thing, there's already a thread in Meta for congratulating members who've recently ranked up.

Second, people who want to toot their own horn after getting to their next rank are probably not going to seek out this thread to do it in, especially since OP made it self-moderated for some bizarre reason.

And third, I'm of the opinion that members don't need to be congratulating themselves on ranking up, as those threads seem to be (to my jaded eyes) attempts to get even more merits.

Therefore, I think OP ought to just lock this thread and forget about it.  I'm not sure what his motivation was in creating it (probably to earn merits), but it's a bad idea overall.

Edit:

I think this will not work since a similar thread already exists on the forum. [[LOG] The ranked up members - Congratulations!]
Yeah, of course I didn't read your post before writing mine--bad habit, but I'm glad someone was thinking the same thing I was.
