2461  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin(BTC) Price By 2021 Year End on: April 04, 2021, 03:19:10 PM
I was aiming for about $260k before I dump my coins on the market (I'm not fussed about when that happens though).

Correct me if I'm wrong, isn't high btc dominance means possible more up trend in price? Right now bitcoin dominance is decreasing and it looks like bitcoin is already done, now it's altcoins time though I'm not  sure, I might be wrong as well

Old investors are mainly diversifying into altcoins, new investors are more likely to only focus on bitcoin.

Most people seem to accept than an investment in an altcoin they like means that a bunch of other people will do the same later on and push its price up both in relation to btc and their fiat (if they're trying to grow it).

A high alt dominance is normally expected about this time. I think the only time I saw dominance go over 80% was when bitcoin bled down to $2.9k.
2462  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Flipkart accepting Bitcoin payments?April fools day tweet 😄 on: April 02, 2021, 08:02:37 PM
Didn't get many likes compared to the supposed views.

An April fools today is probably a development 2 years from now 🤣. Posting a tweet like this on April Fools kinda feels like market research - it obviously might not be but there's a chance...
2463  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Cyber-attacks on Cryptocurrency Excahnges on: April 02, 2021, 07:56:24 PM
Also if your research stretches further, this page and the links going from it might be helpful: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptocurrency_and_crime

Notable thefts section includes exchanges like bitstamp, Mt gox and bitfinex.

There's further information on attacks against end users too and phishing attacks which may have potential applications with exchanges.
2464  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Get address/balance of password locked wallet on: April 02, 2021, 06:12:40 PM
You can try opening it in a text editor I think - and it'll appear in a json format if it's not an encrypted file (and just contains encrypted sections) .

If it is encrypted it'll likely begin with a U and end in either a + or an =.

2465  Economy / Economics / Re: Russian vs foreign companies on: April 01, 2021, 06:38:04 PM
I don't think it's that much of a bad idea to stop companies being the ones making products for your devices.

It might even become more widespread in a few years for segments of continents to produce their own code for devices to be run with. The European commission, the US, the commonwealth and the democratic areas of Asia might do a service to their citizens and allow them the ability to additional privacy (a lot of countries seek to be more proactive in tracking their population and then backtrack on it when they realise its problematic - at least for the democratic areas).
2466  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to prevent lost of 2FA key on: April 01, 2021, 03:11:01 PM
You should write down the key if the website advises it.

Some might have alternative recovery methods (for example if you've used kyc with them) but if you haven't you should write down the original secret key they give you (all apps should allow you to export it if they're up to date).

2467  Other / Meta / Re: Is this "ban evasion"? on: March 31, 2021, 05:38:26 PM
It think it looks like achow is dealing with it.

He made a post today at some point about it.

He has the ability to give franky1 a ban if he deems it necessary. I assume mods consult with each other too (since there are specific boards for them to do so).
2468  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: I have a few beginner questions regarding crypto trading on: March 30, 2021, 12:55:39 PM
I'd recommend using coinbase Pro (Pro.coinbase.com) as I'm pretty sure it's still got lower fees and allows you to set limit orders (orders where you can pick a price you want to buy at so you're not suffering slippage).

1. I stopped using coinbase because they were selling verification information, so...

3. If you store your funds on an exchange you're at risk to security methods you can't control. If you're good at security, I'd store them yourself. If you're bad at security (eg fell for a phishing scam, downloaded and ran an execution from a random source or are very easy to manipulate - at least over the past 6 years) I'd recommend storing it with an exchange like coinbase.
2469  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question about trading on: March 28, 2021, 03:13:39 PM
On top of what mk4 said, check they've been making continuous profits for a few years, if you can't find anyone who has you might be better off waiting and following an index fund...
2470  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Ray Dalio predicting bitcoin to be outlawed on: March 28, 2021, 10:01:03 AM
If it gets outlawed, the value will probably go up...

It might be possible the US will outlaw ownership without a custodian, Europe and Asia won't though and people can just travel to Europe when they need to buy or sell...
2471  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My first topic on BitcoinTalk on: March 28, 2021, 08:25:24 AM
Welcome! You've already found quite a good board to introduce yourself here.

You might want to look at the bitcoin discussion section too at some point, meta has a few stickied threads on rules too and general forum information.
Rules: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0

Most rules here are just general guidance, you'll do well just contributing to discussions you're interested in.
2472  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [help]Payment is not confirmed for a long time on: March 27, 2021, 02:20:26 AM
Yes it needs a higher fee. Can you wait for it to confirm on its own, it might be worth waiting if it's only 4mb away from the tip (normally a few hours).

If not you can right click the transaction and click to bump the fee and make it enough to confirm within the next block when the dialog box opens.
2473  Other / Meta / Re: Why the witch hunt, mods? on: March 26, 2021, 12:32:05 PM
Are you sure it's a mid deleting your posts and the posts weren't made in self moderated topics controlled by an op? That doesn't seem to have been suggested yet but it could also be the case here.
2474  Other / Off-topic / Re: [LEARN] LOGICAL CONNECTIVES on: March 26, 2021, 10:48:17 AM
Is there a reason why some are missed? Can you make it explicit.

Edit [removed just in case clue given]

Are referring about logical operators like the ||, ! and &&. Or those like boolean algebra like this?

I made this image

No. The truth table for implication, or and and are missing a set of inputs (false and false).
2475  Other / Meta / Re: Merit Stats pages Cloud Flare error on: March 26, 2021, 08:45:59 AM
It does take quite a long time to load the page and it does look quite big. I'd suggest the same of doing it once a day with the addition of checking and doing it when the servers aren't busy.

If the slowdown is for realtime data collection on the merit number (as some of those threads have a lot of pages) they could see the number just be added to when people get merit so they can still show realtime stats based off that - dunno if there's a table that has threadNo, meritTotal (though the time delay could also be caused by a bad join collecting thread titles).

2477  Economy / Economics / Re: The Permanent Portfolio method by Harry Browne on: March 25, 2021, 11:11:45 PM
I'd do 33:33:34 bonds:gold:stocks.

Gold is a bit of an asset on its own in terms of it having both retail and business demand and the demand being international.
Stocks have better growth generally too than a lot of other assets.
Bonds offer a FIXED return normally so by buying both bonds and cash you're increasing your level of risk quite dramatically imo. If inflation hits 8% and you have a 10 year bond paying 4% a year, you'll be annoyed you did that - especially if it lasts 5+ years and monatory policy can change under extreme circumstances...

2478  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Nicole wants to give up her taxi in exchange for bitcoin on: March 23, 2021, 11:02:12 PM
At current price how long could she live off what the taxi gets sold for?

Cryptocurrencies are a risky investment. It would be quite a gamble especially if she doesn't have enough funds to cover herself over the next few years if it does badly.

If she could live off 2-4% of whatever the taxi would sell for then it might be worth it (as she could invest half). However, she might instead be better off accepting crypto as payment or giving herself a "bitcoin tax" so she takes off her profits the same amount as she pays in tax and invests that for a more stable return.

Also remember bitcoin has seen crashes of 80+% before.
2479  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which coins are easy to trade? on: March 23, 2021, 10:53:14 PM
My advice, "Dont put all your eggs in one basket" or much better stick on Bitcoin investment while it is dumped.

You said don't put all your eggs in one basket and then suggested the opposite Grin. (I had to...)

Op if you're trying to learn then forex is quite forgiving (especially if you stop trading at news and pull your positions).

Developed countries are generally quite stable when nothing democratic occurs (elections or referendums).
Other than that you could look at coins with good volume or market cap (pairs exchanges will normally suggest). If you can find a repeating pattern then it may be tradeable.
2480  Economy / Economics / Re: How do you explain NFT to a 5 years old child? on: March 23, 2021, 07:26:42 PM
Well in that case it looks like it might be a good way to get actual artists to be seen and not people randomly endorced by larger firms (I think I saw something on that in the US that a few companies control what art is considered desirible).

It may also have a long term impact of making the population of the economy a bit more equal on certain aspects as a lot of people can make art (and those who can't can still make memes to sell Grin). And larger companies will be a bit clunky/inefficient catching on to it.

I think for other assets to be added, we'll need to see a move away from nfts or nft ownership being dictated by erc20 for higher value items (so people can own a "share"of them.instead). 30 acres of land in northwestern Europe can cost around $1M+.and if these ever get sold as nfts then they probably turn out problematic (although an income of $70k-$120k can probably be received from the investor(a) via the same contract).
