2461  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Merged mining for all SHA-256 based cryptocurrencies on: March 19, 2013, 05:11:44 PM
How would it be possible to setup merged mining for all SHA-256 based cryptocurrencies at once?

So that one could mine Bitcoin, Namecoin, PPCoin, Devcoin, Terracoin, Ixcoin, Freicoin simultaneously.

AIUI, you can only merged mine two coins at once, and the codebase has to support it.
2462  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Litecoin really really cheap right now? Or is it dying? on: March 19, 2013, 05:08:23 PM

But I think things are actually going the other way: ASICs make mining easier (for those who have them). If it takes less effort to get the bitcoins, since the miner is more efficient, then that miner will be willing to sell at a lower price. To use your analogy, if you know a gold rush is coming (and the supply of gold will go up), then why would you buy now? You would offer a lower price in anticipation of the increased supply.

But there is no increased supply.  The difficulty adjustments ensure that the supply remains fairly constant.
2463  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Seeking Advice -Which 7970 to buy now? on: March 19, 2013, 06:17:37 AM
Hello,

I am going to buy some 7970's to do some bitcoin and litecoin mining. The hash rate per $ seems to match the 7850/7870 cards, so I figure I might as well just buy 7970's and get higher density and maybe better resale.

I know ASIC are coming. Someday... but I am going to jump in anyway because I can buy 7970's now and do litecoin if all else fails Smiley

Right now I am leaning toward the MSI 7970

Does anyone have any first hand experience with the different versions of the 7970? I am specifically trying to figure out which manufacturer and model of 7970.

I would welcome input from anyone who has mined them or who has other input about them.

Thank you,

Planman

[Monday, November 05, 2012] [05:56:27 PM] <coingenuity> absolutely, and if I can't get them to properly cover the parcel I'll quite possibly end up covering a portion of the loss out of pocket in replacements

This is the standing offer I made to Kris on the same day I was told by our insurance company that they'd likely be unable to cover the cost of replacement.

Sorry, but "If X happens, I may do Y" does not constitute an offer capable of being accepted.

Yes, I flew off the handle a bit when I saw this thread: I worked Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Thanksgiving, my birthday, and New Years' Eve, New Years Day, et cetera, both this year and last. I generally work 6 or 7 days per week, and get 8 hours of sleep perhaps two nights out of the month. Instead of taking care of my financial needs, I invest every spare cent back into the company and staff, and vicariously my customers. Just one example of that is me to this day driving a car that is past the age of majority for voting, having children, drinking etc in many countries. In any possible way I help the company's growth via minimizing my own expenditures, and increase customer satisfaction by having a larger amount and variety of inventory in our vaults. So between Kris not even emailing me about the offer I made him before posting here, combined with the countless sacrifices I make as a general rule to help my customers, I of course took his accusation and the inaccuracies of his account very personally.

None of this is in any way relevant to the issue at hand.  Nor is your information about your insurance and shipping policies.

-As I said before, out of thousands of shipments this has been our only failed claim to date. Our loss rates, claim-success-rates aside, are around 0.25%, which is exceedingly low. That's why I offered Kris some replacement metal happily in November.

Except you didn't.  You said that if "his" claim wasn't paid, you *might* possibly wind up covering a portion of his loss.  That is nowhere near the same as offering him a replacement.

I'm not quite sure what the uproar is about: Nearly 5 months ago I tried to open the door with him as far as my willingness to cover some, if not all, of the cost of his failed insurance claim.

What do you mean by 'his claim'?  Your language indicates that you still somehow view this as his problem when the consensus in the thread has been that it is not.

Instead of taking me up on it, he just sent non-substantive IRC messages continually and posted on the forums complaining about 80btc. I'm re-extending that offer to him again, despite his less-than-truthful portrayal of events. As my long-term customers and peers will tell you, I tend to be a very reasonable person if you take the time to talk to me and will always bend over backwards to enrich Bitcoin in any way possible.

I think you owe him his 80 BTC back or full shipment of whatever he bought, plus interest. If you lived in the same country as him you'd probably be getting hauled into court about now.
2465  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: TRC network hash rate going nuts over the past 2 days on: March 15, 2013, 08:23:36 PM
where can I find realtime chart like this ?

That one is from pool.bitcoinreactor.org, he's turned off his pool though recently so not sure if/how long it will remain up.
2466  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [Pool] Coinotron - LTC Pure PPS = 3.5% fee, RBPPS = 2% fee on: March 15, 2013, 07:39:18 PM

cgminer -o stratum+tcp://coinotron.com:3334 -u myusername -p mypassword --scrypt --thread-concurrency 6144 -I 12 -g 1 -w 256. The temp for the card was low 70's. It was showing roughly 250h/s in cgminer but showing up in the 50kh/s on coinotron. Didn't take down the Accepts/Rejects/Total HW, but it was over 150.

I have switched back to bitcoin for now, I had 2 cgminers opened. One for my bfl and one for litecoin on my other computer. Getting a bit tired now and might fuck something up to much, gonna take a break. But if you do have any advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Smiley

-I 18

and that will KILL your desktop. scrypt is dedicated only.  if you mine od desktop you should go back to sha256 and try PPC or TRC - here on the same pool

]
The comp in question is a dedicated mining machine (6870 + BFL for bitcoin), so I will give the -I 18 a try once my stress level decreases. Smiley Thanks for your help mate.

If you're using cgminer, you shouldn't use intensity over 13 on AMD GPUs until the next version of cgminer comes out.  According to the author he recently fixed a bug that enables higher intensity.
2467  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: TRC network hash rate going nuts over the past 2 days on: March 15, 2013, 07:32:21 PM
Someone is trying to monopoly the Terracoin supply. The price also reflex this purpose.
I think only someone with ASIC could beat this. This means that Terracoin will be die or continue rise.

Looks like it's over.

According to Vircurex, network hashrate down to 175MH and falling.
2468  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [Pool] Coinotron - LTC Pure PPS = 3.5% fee, RBPPS = 2% fee on: March 15, 2013, 07:30:48 AM

So if you're using stratum the rate is effectively double?

no of course not.

simply notroll is 0.00043249 only
and coinotron is 0.00044154 AND 0.00022077 for getwork

Seems like .00044154 is double .00022077.  Your calculator working?
2469  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Consolidated Litecoin Mining Guide for 5xxx, 6xxx, and 7xxx GPUs on: March 15, 2013, 01:58:49 AM
Just a few notes about cgminer that seem to be forgotten with scrypt...

Changing vectors does nothing.
Default lookup gap is 2, so setting 2 or 0 does nothing.
Default gpu threads are 2, so setting 2 does nothing.
Setting thread concurrency overrides shaders, so if you set thread concurrency, setting shaders does nothing.
Intensities over 13 for 79x0 just drops the hashrate or generates garbage so don't do that.
Magic core:mem ratios seem to be entirely hardware dependent: motherboard/CPU/GPU combos change it even for the same 79x0 device.
Magic core:mem ratios work much better on windows. On linux they don't seem to be anywhere near as effective.
Running CPU frequency scaling on linux (or the equivalent on windows) will slow down your GPU hashrate a little, so set your CPU to maximum performance equivalent.

Thanks that helps Smiley

Is there a .conf setting to not submit stales or is that only command line?
2470  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [Pool] Coinotron - LTC Pure PPS = 3.5% fee, RBPPS = 2% fee on: March 14, 2013, 07:58:38 PM
Coinotron lists a 3.5% PPS fee, and the PPS rate is 0.00022077
Notroll.in lists a 4% fee and the PPS rate is 0.00043249324521070000

So.. What accounts for this difference?  cgminer is showing them both at 32 difficulty.

This rate is calculated for getwork pool where share difficulty = 16.
Stratum diff is 32.

So if you're using stratum the rate is effectively double?

cgminer -o stratum+tcp://coinotron.com:3334 -u workername -p password --scrypt
why do I have only 50.0Kh/s with a 5870 with this command?
(with BTC = 400Mh/s)
I think it should be more...

need to tune for your card.  look here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=117221.0

Checked a minute ago, it works well

Are you able to see the blockchain?

Would CGminer allow me to raise the thread concurrency over to 16384 on a 2gb 7870, while the 7970 uses 8192 as thread concurrency? I know different intensity vlaues can be launched, that is fine. But in order to have 19ish intensity, i HAVE to raise the thread concurrency a lot. As far as I gathered, it is either shaders or thread concurrency that drives the amount of memory being allocated for certain intensity's without overwriting the already used ram data.

Can you give me an example of two separate configs for two cards please?

You should be using either shaders or thread-concurrency, not both.

You can't really configure thread-concurrency above 8192 in cgminer.  I have not found this to be a problem on my 7970.  I just increased gpu_threads to 2 to compensate.

The easiest way to see an example of the config is to have cgminer write out its running config.  The config variables will look like this (card1, card2)

"intensity" : "13,12",
"vectors" : "1,1",
"worksize" : "256,128",
"kernel" : "scrypt,scrypt",
"lookup-gap" : "0,0",
etc.

This link is severely out of date.  I just updated a few of the sites.

https://github.com/litecoin-project/litecoin/wiki/Comparison-of-mining-pools

It would be great if anyone can add pools that aren't on there.
2476  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: TRC network hash rate going nuts over the past 2 days on: March 14, 2013, 04:36:37 PM
It looks like 200GH came from one source, up and down. Only ASICs can do that.

The question is, how difficult it is to retarget a ASIC miner from BTC to TRC?

it's as easy as editing pool config in your miner config file and restarting.
2477  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / SolidCoin completely dead? on: March 14, 2013, 04:33:51 PM
Client doesn't even connect anymore, wondering if it's worth bothering to even keep it installed.
2478  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Consolidated Litecoin Mining Guide for 5xxx, 6xxx, and 7xxx GPUs on: March 14, 2013, 04:32:52 PM
Finally I could decently mine my 7850 with this configuration:

worksize 256
aggression 16
threads_per_gpu 1
sharethreads 18
lookup_gap 2
gpu_thread_concurrency 8500

This is what i got:

354,2 kH/s, shares 123:3, stale 2,362%, GPU errors 0,07252%, ~348,139 kH/s

Must stale and GP errors be 0?

Thanks!

stale will probably never be 0 but GPU errors are a sign of something wrong.  That said if you are getting decent hash rates I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.  You could try tweaking the thread_concurrency and see if that makes the HW errors go away.
2479  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Consolidated Litecoin Mining Guide for 5xxx, 6xxx, and 7xxx GPUs on: March 14, 2013, 04:17:24 PM
One thing is for sure, different shader amounts of different cards in one machine are not a good idea.

I can't for the love of god can make my 7970 work alongside a 7870 properly. The problem is NOT with the 7970, that hashes away 700-750 perfectly.

The issue is with 7870. It stops around 350khash, although when I set intensity in cgminer to 20, it'd reach 420ish, but then I get constant hardware errors. Hell, I even have HW errors ate Intensity 14, even on 13, if the shader amount is 2048, as specified for the 7970. Multiple shaders amounts tried, did not help.

The problem is, reaper works fine with only the 7870, it hashes 400 stable, but it resets the display driver every 20-25 minutes, maybe sooner. Can I raise stability somehow there? It does reset the display even on default clocks, when I'm not aiming for the best hashrate to be found... Intensity 19 and 20 seem to just kill the driver, although there is NO hw error with reaper, because it can handle the larger than 8192 thread concurrency.

I would not have a problem mining one card with cgminer and the other with reaper, but this reset thingie is not good. I am using 12.8 at the moment I believe, should I try to go for the beta drivers?

Any advices? Also, my peak performance on the 7970 comes when I'm 1660memory and 1000 core. Not lower, as most people experience :/

Also, did anyone undervolt 7870 and to what extent? I think 1.2 is a lot compared to the 1030 my 7970 can handle.

You can set different config values for different cards in cgminer.conf.  Have it write out a config for you and you'll see how it's done.
2480  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Consolidated Litecoin Mining Guide for 5xxx, 6xxx, and 7xxx GPUs on: March 14, 2013, 07:44:52 AM
Maybe must I try cgminer instead of reaper for my 7850?

Post your reaper.conf here, you should be able to get at least 200-300 Kh/s on a 7850
